  1. I assume it's taking a long time to come out for many reasons, basic ones like ensuring the tech works rather then release it buggy and get flak (they have no competition out yet so no need to rush it) and they are also probbaly trying to extend profits on DVD generation stuff as long as they can, why cut their DVD profits when they wont sell any less blu-ray's by waiting.Until HD-DVD's are out, blu-ray will be the standard, and I don't think HD-DVD has a chance of hurting blu-ray much. Blu-ray has much stronger backing then HD-DVD and with the release of the PS3 people will be able to get a next gen gaming system AND a next gen movie player all in one since it'll be able to play blu-rays, thus making a fairly substantial chunk of people be ready to buy blu-ray shortly after it is released.
  2. It requires alot of organization to have that happen though, you sure as hell can't play on a pub server and actually have everyone working together and coordinating :|Clan matches and scrims can work out well like that, but as I said, requires organization. It's quite rare to find servers where people jsut just stop in and play for a few minutes and actually be organized
  3. I'm not sure about this, but there could be a hell of alot of confliction errors occuring, if the OS was set up on other hardware there could be driver conflictions or the system could be using improper drivers for certain things. Or the hard drive that lost the files in the first place that you are copying off of could always just be dieing for good, grim thought but its a possibility,
  4. I feel the need to give my new work comps specifications... sure it's not actually mine but it makes me drool so weeee. But yea, it was intended to be part of a server cluster, but that fell thru for awhile so I'm going to be using it as a desktop during my time hereProc: 3.0ghz Dual core P4Ram: 4gb DDRHD: 4xSATA 80gb (it was intended for use as processor/ram power, not storage)If I could just slap a video card in it I would be able to hide in my corner and never do work again... or until they fired me... same dif. Regardless with linux on this puppy it flies. The computer is so responsive it's scary. And by scary, I mean awesome. Now I need to upgrade my damn computer at home
  5. I've loved alot of rpg's, and have been in the mood to sink my teeth into another soon (can't wait for oblivion) however I have to agree with those who feel FF7 is the best.Best story? maybe there are better. best graphics? no, best gameplay? probably not, its simply a perfect combination of elements to bring an amazing gaming experience to those willing to put in the time. You fall for the characters, are willing to forge on through everything it throws at you, and can't wait to get back in when you arn't playing. It's one of few games I've played through completely numerous times (excluding short FPS's). I'll likely play through it again someday, and I know I'll enjoy it all over again.
  6. Welcome to the boards! This is a really awesome community so I hope you enjoy your stay. I'll have to check out your gallery once I get back to my normal computer tomorrow (currently I'm on a super slow net connection, not good for image viewing).Hope you enjoy your stay, and I look forward to seeing you around in different topics.
  7. In other news... I cared less then I expected.Nah actually when I read this on slashdot it just seemed like something that I expected to happen already, so didn't really surprise me at all. Companies always seem to change logo's and slogans after blank years to 'keep up with the times'... intel is the same they just held out longer then many heh
  8. I've always used D-link personally, have a 802.11b/g one right now, it's pretty awesome, works well even in my aptartment building where there are about 14 wireless networks visible at any given time :|. Linksys is also a good one, I've never heard complaints about either company. I'd say you are safe with either of those, just make sure to get a 802.11g as weaponX said since it's the newest tech, not worth it to buy an older b one.Oh, and make sure to enable wep and any other protection available on it. That'll stop people from hopping onto your network if you have a long range one. If you get one and its range doesn't extend far enough, you can buy little amplifiers or even make some yourself from what I've heard for pretty cheap. If you need REALLY long range, I'd reccomend googling for that first to know what you are getting yourself into money wise. But for the most part 802.11g routers have pretty good range. As shown by, like I said, how I can see a crapload of networks in my buidling from 3 floors down and on the other end of the building, its not a huge apartment but still, thats ample range and the signals are still strong (and my wireless card isn't that great)So to summarize... linksys or dlink, 802.11g, WEP ON, enjoy
  9. Welcome to this, the place where the stuff happens and whatnot. Hope you enjoy your stay here and I'll likely see you around in differnet topics soon enough, weeeeeeeeeeee
  10. Yea, I would say 40's were normal, temp's getting that high should be making your cpu have some issues, alot of BIOS settings make your comp shut off when the temp gets too high as a saftey precaution and I know mine shuts off below 80... you can probably google for cpu temperature information and find some fairly quickly about processors in feneral and about your's specifically. Just dig around a bit on google and some hardware forums and see if anyone has similar issues. But I would agree with Q, check you're cooling, make sure your fan(s) are working, and make sure your processors heat spreader isn't falling off or something. Also I've noticed if there is a huge buildup of dust on the proc's heat spreader it can raise temps 5-10 degrees, but that still wouldn't make yours jump as high as you say yours is... definitly worth checking into more as running your cpu hot will cause stability issues and possibly reduce its life expectency
  11. Yea redhat just doesn't have it anymore IMHO, however Suse seems to be getting stronger with each release. I really enjoy using Suse, it's well put together and just solid all around. Redhat is quite good it just has more issues to worry about. I too would reccomend suse over redhat...if those were the only linux distros I had to choose from
  12. *shudders* assembler still causes me to wake up screaming in the middle of the night :| stupid assembler...actually it's not that bad for low end stuff, but if you are planning on decompiling some huge scale program into assembler and editing it.... good freakin luck
  13. Maaaaan, I'm not on my own computer right now, but I don't think I could help you out much regardless. Firstly, I don't know the price of half the software I've boughten over the years anymore, I could estimate but it'd probably all just be $50 a pop guesses. Also, if someone were to have illegal software, they probably wouldn't have gone out to check the price beforehand, especially on pricer items like photoshop which is known as a fairly pirated piece of software. I'll still take a look once I'm back on my own system and throw a list together if I remember, but I have a feeling some people such as myself won't be able to give you accurate info :| Unless I'm just dumb and everyone memorizes he prices of all their software except for me heh
  14. I found ogame had better variety and pacing without having too much stuff to deal with and without it requireing too much attention. At first it helps to login regularly but after awhile you don't need to be checking up every couple hours which is nice for me. I like to be able to queue stuff up for about a day in those types of games and not 'need' to check it for fear of falling behind.
  15. Awesome, I would say java is pretty good to try to learn on your own, and stuff like this would be a big help to someone just starting out. Awesome
  16. I would agree, both are amazing games, especially considering that they are free. AA is awesome for slower paced, team based, tactical shooter fans while ET is awesome for a more action oriented visceral FPS fan.
  17. :|maaaaaaaaan, havn't played ogame in awhile... got super addicted during the summer and just kinda forgot about it once classes started before I got to do anything awesome with it... and then by the time I checked again all my **** was destroyed. Ah well... might have to check it out again sometime...maybe...:|
  18. I agree that I'd say its a good thing. Sure you might lose some functionality with the GUI's, and mainstream could eventually mean viruses or whatnot, but it'll be a long time before it gains any significant margin and there will always be '1337' distro's out there that are CLI based and made for the most hardcore of users. Thats the best thing about linux, its made by the people who want it... so you can always find the flavor thats right for you
  19. It's funny how much people will complain about free stuff haha. If you actually need more space just shell out the 5-10 bucks alot of places ask for as a yearly fee for a good sized chunk of space. :| I can't imagine anyone needing over 150mb unless they care enough about it to pay a tiny bit for some space. As it stands I agree with the majority here, having 150megs without ads beats 333 with ads anyday. Momma says ads are the devil...
  20. Need for speed: Most wnted is currently dominating my racing gaming time. I played PGR3 for the 360 for awhile but it just didn't cut it, NFSMW does. It has just enough car customization to keep things interesting, a nice sized city to roam around and enough different race types to shake things up. Sure the storyline is pretty basic, but what racing game's isn't? Oh, and it's worth buying the game just for Josie 'Mia' Moran/Maron/Whatever her name is .So yes, while some of the year's other racing games were 'good', NFS: MW kicks all of there asses, especially on the 360
  21. If by that you mean to get the 256mb ram version of the card you already have a 128mc version of... no it won't boost performance enough to warrant getting the upgrade
  22. I would agree with the 'lose the dell' idea, even if you upgrade a part of it that you can now, if you plan to stay on top of things you'll be needing a serious upping of hardware over the next year or two and Dell's are evil for upgrading. I changed a mobo in an old gx200 to a more modern mobo for a "not for the public eye" media server in my apartment... lets just say it now has the new mobo in it but it is not pretty... and that is the understatament of a lifetime. But yes, as long as you have hardware that is of equivalent power across the board for cpu/gpu/ram you'll be fine. You don't need bleeding edge to run all the games out there if you're willing to settle for less then maxed graphics, however if you hope to run all the games for the next couple years you will need to go top of the line.
  23. I've been considering trying out gentoo, but everytime I am about to try it out I nevr do for some reason, the others are just simple to install and set up whereas I've heard many a mumblings about gentoo... who knows. I'll probably try it eventually, but for now Mepis is holding my attention nicely...
  24. I was using Ubuntu for awhile, switched over to Mepis though. I love the whole apt-get debian system, it's pretty awesome, but theres some aspects of ubuntu that kind of annoyed me... seemed like it was a dumbed down version of debian while mepis just feels like a streamlined version of debian. Regardless, I'm having a good time with Mepis so far, although I've only had it about a week on my system haha... I switch distro's alot...
