seec77... I've repartitioned NTFS drives with various different linux distro's default partitioners plus I've done it using partition magic and all were fine... most linux distro's have issues writing to htfs (and some still reading from it) but having an NTFS drive doesn't rule out the ability to partition your drive. I'd suggest poking around the ubuntu forums or just other linux forums in general to try and find out what the problem is before buying a new HD (unless you just want more space, which never hurts heh).Having a professional looking disc would indeed also be a big draw to shipping out the cds, although redhat ships professional looking cds too, just just charge for it I was moreso talking about the free aspect of the shipping, but yea I'm sure they have lots of reasons for everything to do with the free cd shipping since I'm pretty sure the only real costs for cononical are employee wages and shipping the discs... and they are, after all, a business
-
Hahaha, the primary reason is for that, I'm pretty sure, but I mean anyone who wants an official copy is welcome to them, they don't try to imply it's only for a certain type of person. I'm just pretty sure that was their original reason for doing it.
-
The primary logic behind them being willing to ship out the cds is that anyone should be able to use linux whether they have broadband or not, therefor they are willing to ship the cds (at no cost to the poor fellow without broadband) so that anyone can get linux for free.

The Mentos And Diet Coke Reaction
Jeigh1405241495 replied to Darkwolf11235's topic in Science and Technology
I can't imagine it would do any damage assuming you didn't try to close your mouth mid reaction... now swallowing a large quantity of coke then swallowing a mentos whole... who knows -
People in my building have let their garbage stink up their own apartments so bad the halls outside their doors smelled too :| Some people are just disgusting haha. And comming from me thats pretty bad since ym roomate is a complete slob, but as far are smells are soncerned I mean, how can you put up with it when you just need to take a bag of garbage downstairs? lol. So yes, for some people anything more convenient would be to the betterment of their roomates/neighbours.

The Mentos And Diet Coke Reaction
Jeigh1405241495 replied to Darkwolf11235's topic in Science and Technology
cyborg I've been thinking that too haha, it'd be insanely hard to actually drop it in and seal it though since the reaction seems to happen FAST, so you'd need to do soemthing time delayed... say wrap the mentos in enough paper towel that you could get the container sealed before the soaked soaked through enough (I'm sure there would be easier and/or better methods this is just the first that came to mind to demonstrate my idea) -
Yea some buildings have similar things, like austin mentioned, where its just a chute on each floor or whatever. Having access to it from every apartment would be good but no mnatter what smell would indeed be an issue. Even if the garbage immediately went to the bottom there would be odours lofting upward toward the apartments above. They could hypothetically have some type of air current to remove the odours but that wouldn't be economically feasible for such a small gain.

The Mentos And Diet Coke Reaction

Haha yea I have seen a bunch of videos of people doing this, its pretty cool. I'd try it out if I wasn't so lazy... but who knows maybe someday haha. Seems pretty awesome... I wish there was a video of the person who discovered this and their reaction to being covered in cola hahaha. -
Windows Live Messenger 8 Final Release

messenger plus! was always buggy for me when I tried it back in the msn messenger 6.0 era... I might give the new one a shot if the features seem cool. -
Windows Live Messenger 8 Final Release
Jeigh1405241495 replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in Websites and Web Designing
It's...different. I can see why alot of people would like it more... hell I thought I would. Seems alot smoother and shinier, but I dont know. Just rubs me the wrong way in actuality I guess. Some of the layouts of things are better IMO but its probably something you'd need to try to know for sure. Also a feature I AM looking forward to that I forgot about was the fact that they are going to be giving msn yahoo messenger support...Usually I dont use multiple client programs since they often lose functionality but if they can merge in Yahoo! messenger and all its features into msn, thats ones less program for me to worry about running which would be awesome. -
Windows Live Messenger 8 Final Release
Jeigh1405241495 replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Haha yea, the shared folders thing turned out to be pointless, ah well. It seems to run more stably on my system and that was the main thing I was looking for. Hopefully it does the opposite on all my friends' systems and it'll piss them off enough to switch to any other chat prog. Alas, that wont happen, but I can dream. But yea, most of the features implemented properly don't affect me at all it turns out, and after using it awhile I don't prefer the look haha. Ah well. -

I must say I look forward to trying this out... I've always been bitter about msn because everyone I know uses it and I've never loved it (various feature annoyances, various changes I disagreed with, various connection drop issues, etc) but this looks like a solid update. I know I'm stuck using it so might as well get the best of it right? The new look seems pretty slick (I don't like the look of... whatever version I have now) and the tweaked features for having shared folders and stuff seems cool... will be useful for my buddies when I get back to my university classes to share resources in one of those folders maybe. All in all its the type of update I like... eye candy, fixed features, new features, but nothing so dramatic that it seems like a totally dif program. At least thats the feel I get, I'll test it tonight hopefully and letcha all know. -
Come on guys, suggesting an alternative is fine but at least give SOME INPUT to the topic if you are just going to bash it (meaning, comment on the differences between 10 and 11, not just that they both suck).Personally I too don't use WMP as my primary but have never had huge problems with it. I'll probably try 11 beta at some point as the interface does look quite snazzy and they might have fixed some of the things that annoyed me about 10. I think they are starting to feel the heat from competetors so they likely have made some substantial and useful changes, but again just conjecture.

I know I've been thinking about getting the logitech wireless combo set with the mx1000 laser mouse. That set looks pretty nice as well, good choice.I know I'd use a wireless keyboard when typing large reports and whatnot to put it in my lap so I can put my feet up and get comfy for the long haul of typing lol. Also I could use either to control my music from across the room rather then having to get up to change songs or volume or whatnot. My main thing is that my mouse cord often gets caught on mysterious things behind my desk, throwing a cramp into my gaming. Wireless removes this problem. There are various reasons for wireless periphs, from cool factor to just no wires to added functionality. IF you can't see yourself ever caring though its probably easier to just save the bucks.

Well my 'average' brushing is about 30-60 seconds, and I have never had a cavity, eat horrible foods as far as my teeth are concerned, and the dentist has never had a bad thing to say about my teeth... not that this relates to the topic entirely I just feel the need to point out that this is not a necessity but would be a luxury. Also, if you can forget to brush or not have time to brush now, imagine missing a single brushing when its only once a week? Wait two or three days before realizing and you're getting mouth based infections because your immune system hasn't had to deal with any oral bacteria for years... (Note: I have no clue if this would actually happen lmao)
-
I've got to first comment that if people dont have time to spend 30 seconds twice a day brushing your teeth...uh...man you need to slow down a bit haha.As far as the nanotech teeth things are concerned I can't see why its not possible. I mean in order to get the tech that would make this possible I'm sure we'd have the tech to distinguish which bacteria to remove and not to have them bug out and attack out food. I'm not saying it should be possible soon, but I can't see why it wouldn't be.Then again I like often having minty fresh breath then just "non-bad smelling" breath for those 'special occasions' lo.

I lovede math in HS, stopped loving it at the beginning of univeristy, now am starting to hit the odd course (like combinatorics) that are actually interesting and enjoyable math like this. Then again I think the prof I had deserves alot of the credit for my enjoyment of the combinatorics course buuuut, yea countring problems FTW! hahaEdit - If that's wrong now I am going to feel nice and stupid, WEEEHAW!

yeh is right. Its a fairly basic stats problem, you have 9 "objects" and must chosoe 5 of them, so its C(9,5) <--read '9 choose 5'Therefor its n!/(n-r)!r! or 9!/4!5! and since the 4! can cancel out some of the 9!... (9x8x7x6x5) / 5!It's weird, I hated stats but enjoyed this type of stuff in my combinatorics class. Either way, theres your answer

I'm downloading it here but I'm running on a server box with a nearly non-existent vid card so this'll probably be a futile attempt, I'll have to check it out at home I hope either my current residence or my parents home is now in higher res images... before you could barely make out either because we live in the middle of nowhere haha. *runs off to try it*

Hm, what kinds of things do you feel you need to use the command line for in Ubuntu? I mean, I know I personally use it for most of the things, but I can think of a way to do virtually everything through the interface. I know one of my friends was using my computer and had never touched linux before and just messed around and found most of the things that they would normally need to know before I even realized they were on the comp.I ask only out of curiosity, I think they've implemeneted in the last couple releases alot of ways to circumvent he command line.... not that I feel you SHOULD
-
Oooooh, 6.10, right. Yea it will probably be more bleeding edge, but I still think most stuff will be heavily optional. I cant see them completely alienating there main audience
-
What do you mean by a bleeding edge tech release? IT's just like it's always been, one of the simplest and easiest to use distros available (if not THE simplest and easiest to use). Its not the most powerful bleeding edge distro by any stretch of the imagination, tho.

If you are comfortable with Mandrake 10 then I would say stick with it for awhile longer. If it feels a bit weird to you still, there would be no harm in at least giving Ubuntu a shot. Frankly I've tried Redhat/Fedora, Mandrake, Suse, etc. PRetty much all the 'easy to use' distros and the first that I actually felt was easy to use was Ubuntu. The others have all come a long ways over the past year or two as well, but Ubuntu just does alot of things right. Most importantly for me, they have the hardware autoconfiguration and software installations simplified to a level that they are hard to mess up. I have only seen a dependency issue on ubuntu once since I started with it and that was fixed by simply reinstalling the package in question... I left most other distros because of dependency woes.SO yes, if you love Mandrake there wouldn't be a reason to switch obviously. If you wouldn't mind trying something new I'd suggest trying Ubuntu. Hell even just make a small new partition and leave mandrake on their along with ubuntu and windows and then you can test out ubuntu (including the features the live cd cant really show off well) and then if you like it just take over the mandrake partition lol.
