  1. To me the most interesting thing about this photograph is the screen resolution of the four IE windows. Its not 1024x768 or similar, it's 768x768, I mean both sides are of equal length. So it looks like the Longhorn side bar really will change the look and feel of the desktop. This might have consequences for future web design: websites like cubes.
  2. No matter how much I pay, I always get the feeling that the price is too high. In my opinion bandwidth should be free! Free as Linux for example. Like air or water, internet connection should be something that simply is there. As soon as I get free unlimited SDSL bandwidth the price is just right.
  3. Well, I don't have a large project, but a little one: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Some XML-Newsfeeds are thrown against XSLT-Stylesheets by PHP for making an HTML output. The advantage of XSLT compared to CSS is that you can create Hyperlinks out of the XML-content, I think you can't do this with CSS. But what is Smarty??? I guess I don't even have an idea what it is ...? GreetingZ
  4. Site Address: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Theme: Hasenschau - News-Site grabbing several german XML-Newsfeeds. Active: Yes, day and night. GreetingZ Added - m^e
  5. I also think that Puppylinux is great. It's bootable from Mini-CD or USB-stick. If you use it on USB-stick, you still have enough space to store your data on the stick. I also experienced problems when I tried to install it on harddisk, but I love the "Live"-version (CD or stick), it's really fast!GreetingZ
  6. Hey ... wow! That XSLT-file must have been hard work! The xsl:for-each select and xsl:value-of select can drive someone crazy ... Looks really good! <congratulation>MY CONGRATULATIONS!</congratulation>
  7. Hi,did you put your "index.html" in the correct directory? It must be in the directory "public_html". If it doesn't work, perhaps there is another file "index.htm" or "index.php" in the same directory.GreetingZ
  8. The weak thing about Solaris still is the hardware comatibility. Many hardware is not supported, and it's no fun to run it in 640 x 480 screen resolution. All operating systems should have a hardware detection and driver library like Windows has.
  9. You have to chmod the files which are unwritable, if in doubt try 777. Mambo should tell you which files need to be writable, you have to change permissions for these files/directories with your ftp-program. After this everything will work out fine.GreetingZ
  10. Open Office takes much to long to get started, when I start Excel or Word, the program is ready immediately. But that's only one point, there's other ponts that make me prefer Microsoft Office. Anyway, if we discuss this topic "without talking about the companies that makes the program or prices", then I would like to answer with a question: If somebody would give you a car for free, and leaves you the choice between a Maserati and a Volkswagen, which one would you choose? I guess most of us DID NOT really pay the license fee for MS Office, so this comparison with the free cars might not be sooo stupid. GreetingZ
  11. The best OS is the one that makes YOU happy. I don't care what other people use, it's important which glove fits best to MY hands. I've tried a number of Linuxes and I still install new Linuxes every now and then, but after 5 hours of Linuxing I'm really happy to get back to my XP computer. But that doesn't make XP the best OS, it's like "which ice-cream is the best?"GreetingZ... ah, by the way, DOS is the best OS!
  12. It's not absolutely necessary to install Apache and PHP on your computer, but if you don't, you can't test your websites before uploading them to your webspace. The easiest way to install the whole thing in one run is XAMPP from Apachefriends. You have one .exe-file and simply install it, that's all. Taken from their website: You can find it here:https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html GreetingZ
  13. Hi,try Netscape Composer! It's still delivered with the Netscape Browser (Netscape Navigator) and it's still very easy to use. Of course, it's not as mighty as Dreamweaver or Frontpage, but it produces a very thin HTML code. And like the others said, learnig HTML is not too hard and it's fun, you'll see!GreetingZ
  14. PHP does NOT mean "personal homepage" or any other stuff like that, it means "Hypertext Preprocessor". The main resource for learning PHP is http://php.net/ , many of the tutorials there exist in different languages. Have fun! Just in case you decide to learn ASP, I think you should consider to learn ASP.NET, it's the "latest remix" of ASP, with some major differences. GrettingZ
  15. And I miss the "recent topics" and "recent posts" on the startpage. Now I have to click on "view new posts" first, perhaps these posts could be shown on the startpage again?GreetingZ
  16. Astahost is running PHP Version 4.3.11, you can find the phpinfo-file here: http://forums.xisto.com/ GreetingZ
  17. Maybe you're right, but I wouldn't want to call it PAYING, we are all paying nothing, Xisto is accepting words instead of money, so in my eyes it's not really paying. GreetingZ

  19. The search for a free PHP webhoster with safemode off and Sablotron enabled brought me here. I don't even remember HOW I fond Xisto, but it's more important THAT I found Xisto. 1> Are you ready to accept ads on your website ? No, please not! I loooove watching all the ads here in the forum, it's a good idea to show the ads that way, but I do not want these ads on my website. 2> Are you ready to make a small payment for not posting? Let me put it this way: Posting is CHEAPER than paying! 3> Do you feel that you are compelled to post? If yes, Suggest about other methods in which we can ask you to come up and support us. We are supported by advertising networks. Sure we're compelled, but as I said, it's cheaper than paying and it's nice to find good quality posts here! I did not think that before I registered here. Well as a possible alternative, how about a minimum clickrate for the ads in the forum? Hosting for ads-clicking ...? 4> Do you feel that the facilities provided by this host is enough for you. If not, what do you require. Yes, everything cool. Sometimes I have the feeling that the server is a bit slow. 5> Do you require Cpanel. [ We provide the most advanced cpanel ] No, it's not really necessary. Cpanel is nice, especially these pre-installed scripts, but I sure could live without that. 6> Can you comprise Cpanel with more hosting facilites like space and BW. The only thing that's important to me is my enabled XSLT Sablotron in the PHP configuration. YOU GUYS ARE ALL VERY FRIENDLY HERE AND THAT MAKES IT FUN BEING HERE! GreetingZ
  20. Well, I think you have to answer your question yourself. What do you want from your website? What are your requirements?. If it's a static website, it's absolutely not necessary to use xml. I think it would not make sense to use XML, if the same aims could be solved with (X)HTML. What do you mean with "focus on visual in XML"? You can use stylesheets (CSS or XSLT) to transform the XML data into HTML, but you can also do a HTML page with "XML-islands" in it. What kind of site are you planning to do?An XML/XSL-solution is perfect if the content of your site often changes. The stylesheet stays the same and the content changes as soon as you upload a new version of the xml-file.
  21. Hi, you can find a good XML tutorial here: http://www.xml.com/pub/a/98/10/guide0.html XML does not markup hypertext or any other layout thingies. XML marks up content. XML gives you the ability to structure your content. You can name your own tags: <book>, <title>, <author> ... You CAN transform your XML data to HTML and sure it's possible to combine XML with PHP and others. But XML can do much more than being displayed in the internet. I try to give you an example: You go on vacation tomorrow. Tonight you look on the website of your airport, whether the flight will be delayed. In the morning you arrive on the airport and you look on this big black noise-making board in the entrance hall where all the flights are shown. You find your flight and go to your gate. The thing is, that BOTH, the website and the board read their data from the SAME xml-file. There is ONE file located on a server somewhere. Your mobile phone might understand the same data, the only difference is the way that the machines display the data. Pretty soon your freezer might talk XML. GreetingZ
  22. Hmm, what are you looking for? XML editor like in the subject or XHTML editor like at the end of your posting? There's many XML editors, some expensive, some free. I guess XMLSpy by Altova is the leading application. But I don't care ... I use XML Notepad by Microsoft. Since they released Infopath, they don't have it on their website anymore, but you can still find it: HERE GreetingZ
  23. Do your primary and secondary IDE Controllers run in Ultra-DMA-Mode 2? (see Device Manager - IDE Controllers). Sometimes it happens that one of your IDE-Controllers suddenly runs in PIO-mode.
  24. Yes, I can ping it, but only with very low rates. Try ping -f -l 400 69.50.177.114 And I still see this "no website configured" in the browser. GreetingZ
  25. perhaps missing or corrupt graphics driver?
