Xandros Linux Beta Test German and French Versions Coming
hazeshow replied to hazeshow's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I don't know what the matter with these XandrOS guys is. I entered my last found bug on July 13th, 2005 but the bug status is still "unconfirmed". They don't seem to really work on this beta program anymore, the beta forum is almost dead. Perhaps anyone has better experiences with this beta test? I just wanted to let you know, that in case you join this beta test, it's possible that nothing really happens. I wonder if we we will get our free XandrOS license when the beta test is over. I'm afraid we we will NOT get it. Beta GreetingZ -
Bittorrent Received $8.75 Million Support
hazeshow replied to jedipi's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Yes, big brother can TRY to kick our asses, but as long as the internet users keep their old versions of the Bittorrent client, I think there's nothing that can be done to stop people downloading files through bittorrent protocol. Maybe it will get harder to run a tracker, but I think since there's Exeem, a trackerless version ot bittorrent, users will always find a way to keep that thingy alive. Ok, leave your windows open ... -

I like Offie XP much more than Office 2003, because Office 2003 has these ugly tool buttons -
My Account Went From Unlimited Space To 20mb
hazeshow replied to TJ213's topic in Web Hosting Support
I think the free hosting plan talks about 20 MB webspace and not unlimited webspace, doesn't it. My Cpanel also once showed unlimited webspace and unlimited SQL database space, but then like yours, all of a sudden it showed the correct size of 20 MB and I had to remove some files to get a "positive" disk usage again.GreetingZ -
Major Website Mistakes Improve your site
hazeshow replied to BigmanB's topic in Websites and Web Designing
One of the biggest mistakes are FLASH INTROS I think. The site visitors will hate it to click the "Skip Intro"-Button every time they visit your site. So even worse is a Flash Intro without the Skip Intro-Button! For me personally Flash itself is a mistake. There are internet users without Flash Plug-in, and others like me who simply turn Flash off because they don't like it. And blind people can't "see" what's going on in a flash movie.GrettingZ -
A CMS sure is a good move. It will give your visitors the possibility to take part in the creation of the content of your site, and if they do so, they will more and more look at it as their site. So in other words, they do the work but it's still your site. Really cool! The only CMS's I have tried out are Mambo and Intrexx (but you need MS Internet Information Server for Intrexx). Mambo appeared very easy to use to me, and you can find a pre-installation in your Xisto's cpanel. Like vujsa said, give it a try, if you don't like it, simply delete the directory. GreetingZ

Little Questionaire for school...its interesting
hazeshow replied to ebbinger_413's topic in Software
1) What brand of computer do you have? (put homemade if you built it yourself)I have about 15 computers, all different styles, some desktops, some big servers with hotplug RAID and all this. Right now I'm sitting at a Medion PIII 500 Mhz machine. 2) What Operating System do you use? Windows XP,Windows Vista, Windows NT, Windows 2003 Server, Redhat, SuSe, XandrOS, Puppylinux, Vectorlinux, and I'm always trying out different Linux styles. 3) What browser do you use? Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7 Beta, even in Linux I always try to install IE through Crossover Office. No Firefoxers comments on this, pleeease! 4) What E-mail client do you use? Outlook Express, are there any others? 5) What multimedia program do you use? (e.g. WinAmp, WMP) Windows Media Player, Real Player, Real Jukebox 6) What Word Processor do you use ?(office, openoffice.org) Word 2002 and Ragtime 7) What anti-virus program do you use? None except my brain! Hardware Firewall instead. 8) What anti-spyware program do you use? Once used XoftSpy and Startup-Spy XP 2004 GreetingZ -
I have the feeling that Internet Explorer 7 Beta is faster than all tho other browsers. But as mentioned before, speed is not everything that matters.

I use FTP Voyager http://www.ftpvoyager.info/, it works comfortable, so I felt no need to try out other programs. Sometimes I simply use Internet Explorer instead of an extra client. GreetingZ

I have a DX486 with 100 Mhz, 16MB RAM, and a 500 MB harddisk with a beautiful broken mainboard, and it does NOT BOOT AT ALL.

If you go to any website that tries to install the Macromedia Flash 8 plug-in (not to Macromedias website directly) and if you then accept Windows' Security Warning, there will be NO toolbar installed! GreetingZ

The Fidelio Suite is owned by Micros: https://www.oracle.com/de/industries/hospitality/index.html There are several modules like Fidelio Front Office, Fidelio Roomplanner, Fidelio Engineering and so on ... Find a complete list HERE This kind of software can hardly be found on the internet, because the software is not always being sold on CD, so even the Sysadmins don't have a CD. Check the hardware requirements before you buy. Ah ... by the way ... Fidelio is the title of the only opera that Beethoven has ever written. GreetingZ

Opera 8.5 Released Did I forget to say its freeware now ??
hazeshow replied to sparx's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Come on Opera Users among you here, be honest ... how many of you did ever pay any money for using the 'non-free' version of Opera? Hu? Maybe they give their software away for free now, because almost noone has ever paid for it anyway. -
Well i doubt that we can really answer the question who 'the winner is'. As far as I understand it, ASP and ASP.NET go further than PHP. You can use programming languages like C# and VB.Net inside ASP.NET as a whole, so you can programm real applications and let them run online on your website. The language ASP.NET itself is free, and Microsoft's ASP.NET Webmatrix editor is also for free. If you're looking for other server software than Microsoft's Internet Information Server, try out the Cassini Webserver, nice and small and free. I would lso like to mention the Mono project. It's an open source framework for .NET applications. /

I think it's o.k. if people have their complaints against Microsoft. But I can't understand how people do complain AND use the software. If they don't like it or if they think it's not safe enough, they should simply not use it! They CAN buy an Apple Macintosh odr install Linux. If they don't know about alternative OS's, like solanky said, it's THEIR fault, not Microsoft's. I would recommend either complaining OR using MS software, but not both!GreetingZ

Well I think the only way to find out the answer to the question whether Linux is for you, is to try it out! Wise after the event ... GreetingZ

Just for those who think Microsoft is evil: Bill Gates once said something like "everybody's free to produce a BETTER software than we do". He is totally right with that. I can't understand that many many Windows user always complain about the software. If they don't like it, they are free to use another Operating System or programm a better one. GreetingZ

Debian 3.1 Or Solaris 10 Please come in and express yourself
hazeshow replied to rantsh's topic in Websites and Web Designing
If your harddisk is big enough, why don't you try both of them as a dual boot system? You can use the same swap partition for both installations, and installing more than one Unix on a machine is alwasy fun. See how the Lilos overwrite each other ... GreetingZ -
I have a beautiful Compaq Proliant 3000 Server with a 7-disk-Hotplug-SCSI-Raid, it's pretty cool and real fast, BUT the whole **** is LOUD and uses a lot of VOLTAGE. So I agree with yordan that for the average user it would be better (and cheaper) to have one 160 GB disk than having 8 20 GB disks. I think systems like yours make sense if you're doing a lot of back-up stuff, or if you're running a RAID for performance or data security reasons. But I do very much understand that you love your box. GreetingZ

That's what I mean. No class warfare anymore, no aristocracy anymore, bootscreen revolution has won - only ONE Windows XP for all. Well, of course I won't let these bolchevists do that to me, and i immediately edited the bootscreen bitmap. Now I have a Windows XP Ultra Professional Platinum 2006 Edition. GreetingZ
