  1. Is there an "easy" way to update a database's tables? Like for instance, I have my own custom-coded member login system. Whenever I add a new feature that needs a database, I manually have to download, update and upload the database. Is there an easy way I can do this?THANKS!!![N]F
  2. Hmm...normally I just use a transparent gif anyways and just fill the cell (usually keeping the gif's height 1 px). I find that this way, the design keeps its proper shape in ALL or MOST browsers. Normally, browsers won't go crazy if it can't move the object. But I ALWAYS suggest filling empty space with a transparent gif. They work perfectly as a "brace" to keep it all together. [N]F
  3. Ok, I switched all the parts into a better case and it has been running smoothly since. This case allows more air to come in and cool the parts. I'm still confused of why it would overheat... yesterday, my room was 83 degrees and it was operating just fine...[N]F
  4. To know if your CPU is overheating, most computers do shutdown to prevent damage to the rest of the system or they "lock-up" to prevent more overheating. Here's a list of CPUs and their normal operating temperatures (in degrees C) Note that 22 degrees C is about 70 degrees F. http://www.heatsink-guide.com/content.php?t=maxtemp.shtml Most BIOS, I think, have built-in sensors to detect current fan RPM and some can detect CPU temperature and some can possibly even detect hard disk temperature. It all depends on your motherboard and BIOS. [N]F
  5. How do you know that it will work on a mac? ok, so "maybe" it will work? And you've installed Vista on a mac to see that it works, no problem?? How can you say that the current apples can handle Vista when you say that Vista will "most probably run on apple machines as well"... I'm just confused... [N]F
  6. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... I almost DIED laughing there! Every single phpBB update brings MORE security holes along with patching the old ones... you shouldn't have to create a patch every other week. The current phpBB release: 2.0.20.... that number seems a little strange. You'd think by now they'd be at 2.5.0 after all the releases to fix holes. When do they plan on reaching 2.1?? I'll drop you a PM. [N]F
  7. I've copied my truetype fonts from windows for use on my linux system. I've been searching and tried a few things with no luck.thanks for any help![N]F
  8. I thought about doing this once. I'll just have to buy some PHP and MySQL books, then I think I could probably program one. If you really wanted, I'd help too [N]F
  9. yeah, I'm quite puzzled too. WHY?! Give me your mailing address and I'll send you a still working but old graphics card that is probably as old as your monitor! Actually, I've got several. Maybe you could hook up some dual monitor action with each monitor being 800x600. Any grpahics card will work fine running at 800x600. Just don't go buy the latest for an old junky monitor. [N]F
  10. 0.9.13 everyone else: thanks, I'll also look into the other ways to do this! [N]F
  11. ok, I installed WineTools. but after I install IE6, I get a bunch of pop-ups complaining about a bunch of missing or corrupt files in C:\Windows\System32... [N]F
  12. SMF is a great free solution. For paid, I highly suggest IPB. Though the price tag is a little steep, it is well worth the investment.Just stay away from phpBB... I've never seen so many security holes in a single piece of software (excluding Windows, of course). I could probably hack a phpBB and I know some other people who could probably do it too. It has way too many exploits and SQL injections and the whatnot. phpBB should be banned.. I don't understand how people like it.[N]F
  13. I think they're releasing it May 27th?? Also, Live account holders should be able to get it, too. That's how I got Office 2007 beta 2! [N]F
  14. hey,I need some help getting IE6 on FC5... the installer always quits saying that it can't download required things... anyway around this?On my last install, I got IE installed somehow, but it was only on the root user! Thanks![N]F
  15. nope didn't touch anything... oh well... it isn't going to kill me to re-install the OS. Ok, well I left the machine on all night and all day with the case off and the card didn't overheat. Now I just have to figure out why... my room has been 80 degrees F. and it was operating smoothly. [N]F
  16. Ok... it has an onboard fan (which I can't remove) so I'll try to clean it and see if it actually turns... there's no easy way to get it off of the card itself. Ok, I seem to have got it working (case off) and now it is giving me "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER".... sometimes I wonder why I ever am persuing the career of computer tech... [N]F
  17. My linux box's graphics card must be going... the thing will randomly reboot (even during boot-up) and the picture on the monitor is all screwed up... Sometimes the picture will be perfectly normal too... is it overheating or going bad? Thanks![N]F
  18. Good... it wasn't just me who thought that as well! [N]F
  19. A good free packet sniffer is Ethereal. Link: http://www.aos5.com/cloud_acquired I use it on my home network to see where bandwidth is going if I notice it's running slow. In order to have it real-time and display all the packets, you have to jump into the configuration. If you're paranoid about your neighbors, most routers keep access logs (that's how I found my neighbors accross the street on my network) so check and block your neighbor's MAC address(es) (that is if you want to be the mean network admin). Ethereal is a more "advanced" packet sniffer. It sees EVERYTHING (I've been able to read AIM conversations in the packet) that isn't encrypted. If you want to check up on your neighbors, but don't want to have to read a ton of technical data, you'll have to search. WARNING: DO NOT do anything STUPID with security tools. You're walking on a THIN LINE with them. Some people will look at you as a malicous hacker while others will think you're network security. Most keyloggers are already known so running a spyware scan will reveal them (same with VNCs). That is, unless, you write your own. Remember: Security tools are NOT toys! They are "tools" and tools are ment to do jobs. You wouldn't play around with a jack-hammer, so don't play around with security tools. [N]F
  20. 25 GB bandwidth (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/)Not even worth it for me. 1) Who even uses A$P? It's quite a worthless language.2) MS in control of your site.... NO THANKS!3) Free domain... good! Can I purchase it after it is registered or is it a "Property of Microsoft, Corp.' thing?4) I'm happy with Xisto...5) I DO NOT want to partner with MS... (unless they gave me big bucks! )6) Is there a #6?[N]F
  21. Ok... to make it clear:I can dial 9-1-1 and talk to a real person and have emergency services dispached by the time you even finish typing your txt msg... don't forget, EMS usually want to be 100% correct... you'd have to wait for them to txt you back and then before you know it, you've got $20 in emergency txt msg charges..I'll stick with the phone calls...[N]F
  22. yulch.... count me out! I'd NEVER use a Windows host for 1 reason: Windows is NOT secure, even behind a firewall. Ok... I take that back... my school's website is hosted on a Windows NT IIS4 (or 3) server. It's terrible even if we do have 100% uptime. 1) Windows is NOT flexible 2) Limited support 3) Too many security holes... and our server is on a network that has all sorts of goodies (grades, attendance, and such for 10+ member schools!!).. what breaks my heart is that there is only 1 UNIX (not sure if it is Unix or Linux) server in the entire place!! Linux is always better over Windows hosting, unless you like the stupid ASP language. PHP is much better. When looking for a host, a Linux host with 98% uptime is more appealing to me than a Windows host with 100% uptime. [N]F
  23. Hey, xboxrulz, do you know of a laptop brand that runs Linux nicely? I have an Averatec but NOTHING will install... I've been trying to dual boot for months but everything just causes a "kernel panic" and it stops. I've tried Red Hat 9 to SuSE 10 to even Ubuntu...It loves Windows, no problem ... I may end up buying a new laptop just so I can finally run Linux on the go...[N]F
  24. that is stange, m^e... I'm going to take a look into this (from the Internet end, not the "sapo.pt" end). I don't know why Xisto would be on a blacklist.... [N]F EDIT: Asta is clean except for "BLARSBL" but it appears that one has EVERYTHING blocked except for a few. Yeah, get in touch with technical support for your ISP and ask them to unblock Asta.
