  1. Well, first of all, I think we're going to need to have more easy-to-use Linux distros, such as MEPIS. After that, there has to be some sort of PR campaign, to try to convince people that Linux is not only for nerds who have doctorates in Computer Science. That belief seems to be rather prevalent; there are actually people out there who think it's some sort of hacker tool. Once that's all done, the pool of Linux users is probably gonna grow big time.
  2. If - make that when - Google makes an OS, I'm definaely not getting it. They actually store all searches, and even emails in GMails that have been deleted. Call me a privacy freak, but I don't want Google or any government watching my web habits. A Chinese reporter was recently sentenced to ten years in prison for forwarding emails to an American site he got from Chinese government officials telling him not to say too much in an article about the fifteenth anniversary of the Tianamen Square Massacre, after Yahoo! handed over information about his web use to the government.
  3. I'm not a Linux user at the moment. However, if or when I put Linux on my box, it'll probably be MEPIS. Or, I could just get a used IBM ThinkPad from a Linux geek I know for $350 to $400, with MEPIS preinstalled.
  4. Indeed. This is unheard of....Microsoft conforming to a standard? Think about it....I'm not sure if the world is ready for it!
  5. Ooh....I had Konfabulator on my PC a while ago, but didin't fell like paying for than twenty dollars, so I got rid of it. It's free now, so this'll be great!
  6. Yeah, the Mac Mini is newer and has Bluetooth and stuff, but you kinda get used to looking at this after a couple minutes. Would anyone else get this isntead of a Mac Mini based on style? It's got lots of it, and besides, I like domes.
  7. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I dare somebody to tell me that that thing didn't raise their eyebrow.
  8. Weeelll, here's an updated list. Mozilla Calendar 0.8.1+ A calendar client based on iCal standard Web Developer 0.9.3 Adds a manu and toolbar with various web developer tools. ChatZilla 0.9.68a A simple, straightforward Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client. JustBlogIt 0.1 JustBlogIt with a simple right-click. FlashGot 0.5.9.99 Enables single and massive("all" and "selection") downloads. Bork Bork Bork! 0.8 Confuscator 0.4.1 Confuses your text messages a tad...
  9. Well, this would be nice, as I'd like to assemble custom systems and sell them as a way to make some money to feed my addiction to model railroading. However, you really need to update it, as selection of components isn't the only help I/we need with; we also wanna know how to put it all together!
  10. I'm very interested. However, all I've really done in terms of games is a dice game, and a game based on Pong....which doesn't really work. I really wanna make some games.
  11. I'm considering setting up my PC for dual-boot, with Windows XP and MEPIS Linux. However, I have Norton GoBack, which boots up before Windows does. What I'm wondering is, does anybody here know how this would work? I want to keep having GoBack boot at startup, so I can always recover my system if I get a Windows virus. But, I'm wondering if GRUB would boot before or after...if afterwards, it's be fine. But if it decided to boot beforehand....I may not be able to get GRUB to boot...and may even end up having a useless PC. >_< So....anybody know much about this?
  12. Well, with all the stuff about Google and privacy, I'm ditching my GMail account, and going with an account on my site. However, I want to use it with Thunderbird, and I've had problems with email adresses on sites I've been an administrator of before. So: what domains do I use for the ingoing and outgoing emails?
  13. Khatchaturian? Yeah, he's someone whose music I like. Anyway....yeah, 100MB is way excessive, especially for dialup. I'm stuck with 56k....and that would probably take me five or six hours. >_<
  14. Heh heh heh....the Micro$oft people have to enter the code "LINUXRULZ" to get their discount.
  15. Yeah...I don't like PayPal, so I'm wondering how this is going to be. >_<
  16. Yeah, I have one. But, I don't think anyone from the United States is gonna be affected here, because the court was in Germany. Although, I do wonder a little, with the Supreme Court over here making decisions based on "international opinion", not settled American law.....
  17. Nah; my friend put up Clicksor ads on his site a while back, and even though he checked off that he didn't want popups, they started appearing on his site, and he had to modify the code he pasted in. Personally, I'd recommend TargetPoint.
  18. Changing the messages? Lol, that'd be so fun.....but I'd be a little concerned about wrath from upstairs, if ya know what I mean.
  19. The same thing started happening on my friend's blog: all of a sudden, he was getting a bunch of spam comments, sometimes five at a time or more. Not long after that started, Blogger introduced image verification for blog comments. He turned it on, and the spam comments came to a complete deadstop. Either the spammers were all bots, or they were people who were blind.
  20. Whoa............an OS on a floppy disk? That's just sweet. It even has a Nice GUI. I tell ya, if I had a slower system, I may go for that.
  21. A few cents? You can get a heck of a lot more than that...you can even get ten dollars just for joining eBay and bidding on one item, and you don't even ahve to win an auction. There are other offers, where you can join Free iPod sites and get paid $0.80 just for joining.
  22. I voted "Combination (doesn't bring profit)." I have ads on my blog, but last I checked, I had one $0.02 click. I've tried applying for a publisher account with SearchCactus, but I wasn't approved. Anyway, I've been considering getting my own CafePress shop, so I could sell T-shirts, mousepads and the like with pretty much any image I can create printed on them...that may make me some cash. I also have a Froogle wishlist, which is linked to from my Blogger profile. I did want to apply for an affiliate program with a company that makes four-wheeled bicycles that I'm interested in, but you have to be 18....bleh. So, anyone know of some good money-making programs you don't have to be 18 for? BTW, I may use the suggestion for a donation button.
  23. Hmm...well, come to think of it, I know a Linux geek, and maybe he'd install Kubuntu for me. But, Yellow Dog is supposed to be easy to configure for dialup modems. I'd plan on boosting RAM anyway....but then there's the risk of my sound not working (If I went with Yellow Dog, that is). Of course, I could always just get a used IBM ThinkPad for $350-$400 from that Linux-lover friend, with MEPIS installed.....
  24. Yeah, they seem nice, but that installer sucks big time. >_<
