  1. I know they do refurbish, but I don't know if they have 'em on their site, and I doubt they'd have one that old. PowerMax? I saw that place....the have this one for $389! Too bad I don't exactly have the cash at the moment....
  2. Now, I've been considering getting on old Clamshell-style iBook, so I was wondering: anyone know of a good Linux distro, available for PowerPC chip architechture, with specs similar to these?
  3. Does anyone know of a trustworthy place that has refurbished Macs? You see, for some reason, I'm longing for an original iBook G3...you know, the Clamshells, that came in colors like the G3 iMacs?
  4. It's good that computers are easy-to-use and available to the masses, but yes, it's bad to use them and have such minimal knowledge of them. Seriously, you should have to take some sort of minute-long verbal test before buying a computer, software or peripherals.
  5. Has anyone else heard of SearchCactus? It's a site where you can get cash by completing offers (such as joining eBay and bidding on one item, which you'll be paid $10 for). You can also create a publisher account, and get paid when people complete the offers if you post links to them on your site. Sadly, mine request for a publisher account for my blog got denied. Anyway, here is the link...and if you feel like using my referral link when you join so I get $0.20, click here. Notice from miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG: Sorry. I had to put up this note here. This is what I've been telling about referral links all along. This is EXACTLY how they should be posted. Jguy here has been a perfect gentleman and made no attempt to hide his link - rather he's provided us with both kinds - a direct link and one under his referral. Also he's provided us with a short review of the whats and what nots. My point is, referrals should ALWAYS be posted like this, giving the members a chance to decide for themselves whether they want to sign up under or directly. You'll notice for cases where this rule hasn't been adhered to, the link was removed.
  6. Overrated? Personally, I don't think so. It looks nice, and works pretty darn well. Although, it's supposed to be really easy to smudge the shiny backs... But is it overpriced? Definitely. I mean, $199 for a two-gigabyte iPod Nano? Geez...for that same price, you can get a six-gigabyte Zen Micro from Creative Labs.
  7. I'd definately say MEPIS Linux. It comes with KDE, and, unlike Ubuntu, comes with a very nice-looking, easy-to-use installer. It looks like regular SimpleMEPIS would work for you, but if it would run slow, I'd try MEPISLite.
  8. I slightly support it. I don't think it should be used all the time, and I think someone should have to be proved 100% guilty to get it. But I still think it should be there.
  9. Yeah, my dad and friend got those emails too. At first, my dad thought they were caused by cookies or spyware that got on the computer from my sister using Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail. But then, we found out they were viruses...luckily, his old Dell paperweight didn't get infected. Well, there's no way that they could have done any damage to my friend's computer. .Exe's don't fare to well on PowerBooks, do they?
  10. Well, I just use AppleWorks for all my word processing needs. But then again, it isn't realy that much of an office sutie, is it?
  11. Well, it'sd not just ethical and moral issues; in my last post, I mentioned that for embryonic stem cell research, you'd need a rather large number of cloned embyros to treat just one person. I don't know why all the scientists want to do embryonic stem cells research, because we've already had some breakthroughs with adult stem cells, and treatment with embryonic stem cells is just impractical.
  12. Oh, I'd love something like that. Definately a bit larger than a stick of gum....that processor speed would be fine. Maybe a small ahrd drive (as in, 5 gigs), a little RAM, Bluetooth, and MEPISLite Linux...I'd just need to get a Bluetooth mouse and FrogPad keyboard, and maybe a small screen..and I ahve a wearable PC!
  13. Yeah, classic Macs can be fun to use...but I really don't like how any Mac made within the last couple of years can no longer use OS 9. That's just wrong. So, I'll be sure to take good care of my iMac.
  14. Well, I ddin't mean to get OS 8...but since that was a couple years ago, and they ahd System 8, then you'd probably still be able to get OS 9 or earlier versions of OS X. I don't know when they started using DVDs for OS installation, but it was probably Panther or Tiger.
  15. Well, it could actually be based on truth; MythBusters, a tV show on the Discovery Channel, tried to see if it was true, and they found that at high temperatures, such as those you would find in the summer in San Diego, biscuit cans could pop.
  16. Yeah, but that's only for the latest version of OS X. OS 9 is on CD; heck, my iMac came with two Jaguar install CD-ROMs. It probably wouldn't be too hard to find old version of Mac OS for sale online, so I'd recommend buying an issue of MacWorld or MacAddict. They have large advertisement areas towards the end, and a couple eyars ago, I saw ads for palces that were selling OS 8! If that doesn't work, try eBay or Overstock.com Auctions.
  17. Actually, waiting periods are just hassles for the law-abiding. Think about it: if someone REALLY needs a gun, that day, to defend themself, they can't get it that day, if there's a waiting period. (That does happen.) A criminal, on the other hand, wouldn't care about waiting periods, and would just get it illegally.
  18. I voted for, because I have no problem with stem cell research in general. However, I am VERY against Embryonic stem cell research. I really don't get why people are so fascinated with embryonic stem cells; not a single treatment--much less a cure-- has come from it. On the other hand, stem cells from sources such has embylical cord blood have been sued to treat or cure dozens of diseases. Even if it would be possible to find treatments and/or cures with embryonic stem cells that would be much better than with stem cells from other sources, you would need an insanely high amount of cloned embryos to treat just one person.
  19. I understand why Apple moved from IBM and Freecell (Motorola) for their chips, but it HAD to be Intel...I'm sorry, but I must say that I think that Intel is the very spawn of Satan himself. They should have gone with AMD! Or maybe another company...I wonder how Cruesoe is doing.
  20. Definately Mac OS X. Very stable. And the Aqua interface...so beautiful.
  21. Well, sorry to double-post...but I found a great them for XP. It's not a .Theme file, but it isn't anything you need skinning software for. Here's the URL: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  22. Actually, I think you can, because Windows can use different themes. You can actually browse for .Theme files. But I don't know where you can get them...
  23. No, nononono.................I mean a place where I can find .Theme files, so I don't need software. That tends to slow things down a bit...and I've also heard that when you log in, it's regular Windows, and then a couple seconds later, everything gets freaky and changed to the skin (with a skinning program). .Theme files are what Windows uses.
  24. Cheaper iBooks? I'm for that. In black too? I'd like that too. But with Intel? I'm sorry, but I must say Apple has betrayed many fans..
  25. Uh, no, because they'll just use something else. And wait a second here, I jsut thought of this: why the heck would the cirminals buy rubber bullets like anyone else (which is how this debate about druggies started)? They'd just get real bullets illegally, just like their guns.
