HTM vs HTML: Whats The Difference ?
minnieadkins replied to sandeep1405241520's topic in Programming
I had heard as someone stated above. Some OS's back in the day could only see 3 letter extensions. Therefore it was .htm. Then when the new snazzy OS's came out they went ahead with .html which is a bit more appropriate.I would also recommending .html, but its up to you. In my experience they are handled the same, but which does it load by default. If you have an index.htm, index.html, and index.php I guess it depends on ur server configuration. I know nothing of that =/. -
I hate dealing with dates. Just too messy. As noted i guess the best way would be to conver as vujsa said, but you could also use that function written that simple contains an array. Or include this array $DateArr = new array('Jan'=>1,'Feb'=>2, 'Mar'=>3, 'Apr'=>4, 'May'=>5, 'Jun'=>6,'Jul'=>7,'Aug'=>8,'Sep'=>9,'Oct'=>10,'Nov'=>11,'Dec'=>12); and then do this trim(substr($date,12,4))."-".$DateArr[trim(substr($date,8,3))]."-".trim(substr($date,5,2))I typed that on the fly dunno if there's any errors, but if so i'm sure you could easily fix them. Obviously I would just be using a key=>index approach creating a hash table. That's if you used 3 characters per each month. Some pple prefer to write out July and March and April. Whatever approach works best for you. -Good luck

How To Reset The Server Variable Php_auth_user
minnieadkins replied to TavoxPeru's topic in Programming
I encountered this as well. I reset the password instead of resetting the auth I believe. I think that worked for me since you need a valid combo of auth/pass for my script to work. Then as everyone else here stated I went with a standard input field login via post. -
Open source would obviously be the end of M$. But I voted 10 b/c I like M$ OS and that would make it free. It's easy to use, although I do have linux on my pc as well. M$ is just compatible with most things and that's what I've always been with since V 3.11. Sometime I wish I had started in linux, but hey it's worked thus far.Mandriva offers open source version for free and for their bundled version you pay so much I think. Plus licensing etc would be an issue, but still there would be so many competitors releasing free versions that M$ couldn't survive, or at least start losing money. Great idea but not realistic. Also as stated above, lots of exploits and security holes. File permissions is a big deal with XP. Very easy to do in linux, but it's a little more difficult to make things secure in M$.

Pro Gamers: What's Your Best Gaming Achievement?
minnieadkins replied to Solus's topic in Computer Gaming
I don't really have much of a showing either. However I have somewhat of a name on a few Quake 3 servers and rank fairly high on most of their stats. Lately I haven't been playing as much and I'm starting to get a little worse in the arena but I think I've done alright. No formal tournaments or anything but we clan scrimmage some (mostly we lose but I hardly ever play). Our clan is called [ELiTE] and I created the site for them at http://www.seektoexplore.com/?dn=dev1ance.net&pid=7POF8BU45&_glst=2&rpid=9POOSXAC5 Not the best site I guess but it works. Still some issues I need to take care of. If you check it out my clan name is [ELiTE]gUrU. Give us a shout =). -
As he said, just go to phpmyadmin and export the SQL to create the database for you. That's all you need to do. Then copy and paste the sql or import it into a SQL window to create your database on your new server. If you have shell access you could possibly also run the sql directly from the command line.If you have any questions about how to do this feel free to ask. I'm sure someone will gladly help you. Although if you do a quick google for help in phpmysql I'm sure you won't find it very difficult.

So this is a one to many relationship One user can multiple credits records in the table. Here should be somewhat of an answer to your design: User Table ----------- userid (primary key) Name address phone (etc) Credit Table ------------- creditID (primary key) userid (foreign key) Camp# CompletionDate Amount DatePmtSent PmtMethod Comments So in order to call an entry from the credit table you must have both keys (foreign and partial primary key). SQL would look something like this SELECT U.name, C.completiondate, C.amount, C.datepmtsent, C.pmtmethod, C.commentsFROM users UJOIN credit C ON U.userid=C.useridORDER BY C.datepmtsent ASC I guess that would give u all the payments made by a user. Obviously if you wanted a single payment you would have to identify the appropriate where clauses and give the correct arguements. Lots of reading on this topic but I guess this would be as good of a place as any. I suggest that you pay particular attention to the ERD's as they will probably explain most of the text if you understand them. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

I have an older motherboard, and before I upgrade to a new pc, I would like to replace my old video card. I want something that will be able to handle (to some extent) some of the newer video games - Doom 3, etc. I am impartial to the brand, but I would like to stay with ATI or NVIDIA. I had a GeForce 4 4800SE, and I am definately looking to upgrade from that.My budget is $100 - 150. I have looked into the geforce 6800 gs I believe, which competes with the gt with about a -$200 price deduction on it. I don't want the best available. I just want something that will maintain steady framrates through most of the games out today. Any advice or past experiences are welcome.

I like heretic and doom I guess. I don't play much console games, but Super Mario world for SNES was cool. Metal Gear Solid for PS1 was great too. There's lots of games that are very good in gameplay, but obviously the graphics just don't compete with todays standards. I'm sure there are lots of games there that I've never even heard of that would probably entertain me for days. We'll never be able to experience all that the gaming industry has to offer.

I agree Jeigh. Wait a few months and see what happens to the price. My video card is a Geforce 4 ti 4800se. I want to upgrade but really can't afford it, and with PCI-E running the graphics card market now, I'm out of luck because I only have an AGP slot. A $100 mouse is pretty unreasonable from my standpoint, but if I was a progamer I guess I would see it as an investment. I have a $10 Microsoft optical intellimouse that came with my pc. I'm happy with it, but sometimes it sticks a little. Other than that, it suits my needs. The techies are like "Wow, look at that. Expensive means it must be good." Which I would say it would be good, but in a few months they'll be another, then another. The cycle will probably never end. I'm usually a good two years behind in technology. It just costs too much, and I can't afford it to keep up. Actually my PC is about 3 years old, but it was a decent PC when I got it. It'll probably stay with me for a few more years, unless I stumble into some money. I'd really like to get my hands on a new motherboard with a PCI -E slot in it and a new nvidia 7800 or so. Maybe in 5 years lol.

I like both. Console is an experience in itself. I personally find lots of games "easier" and "better" ( in my opinion ) on the PC. Halo's alright, but on PC it's better to aim. More accurate with a mouse. On some games like quake 3 I don't see how I could play that on console. I shoot 40-60% accuracy with a mouse and keyboard. I don't see that happening with analog.I like console, but if I had to choose, I would to choose PC. You can always upgrade, and it's just better IMO. Just so many options available with a PC. I guess if you're a die hard gamer you'd have both. Both are very expensive, but for all-around purposes obviously it's the PC. I can't see paying over $200 for a console though. I'm always a generation of consoles behind. When they reach $159 or $129 that's when I usually hop on the bandwagon. By then the games on the new generation make the one's I'm playing look bad. The only flaw with PC is I can't keep up-to-date on my video card. Too much money yet again. Gaming is expensive =/.

I'm still in college and I was exposed to a OOP environment in C++. I currently am helping devlop a piece of software in php that has a class or two in it. I find it hard to keep a OOP environment rather than just have a few classes to help me out.Once class in particular is a class to gather all variables sent via GET or POST and make them accessiable through an object. The class itself doesn't care what's sent to it, it just receives it. The variables are then accessible through the notation "$Object->PassedVariable". There are also several functions. One in particular is a print_debug function that prints all the variables passed to it (and session variables). One function prints hidden fields for variables or builds all the variables in the array as hidden form elements. In cases like that I can seriously see using a class, but I find it hard as well. Thanks for the interesting read mastercomputers. If I ever venture into Java I'm sure I'll understand OOP a little more clearly.

ID's are meant to be for elements that are only going to appear once in the page, so in this case I would say most of those would probably fit that description. The header, footer, and main content are obviously going to appear only once in that page...I would imagine that the left and right menu would be the same. Div's work fairly well in most browsers. IE is a little more of a hassle to get working. Perhaps it's a problem with your code, and IE is just being picky.

I usually spend 8 a day working, then a few hours surfing. I'm on pretty much all day. Maybe somewhere between 9-10 hours. I spend way too much time. I guess you could say I'm addicted to the net.

Some people could just prefer the Guild Wars atmosphere as to World of Warcrafts. Honestly I've never played either, but I can see how both could share a common gaming experience, but they both have differences. Just like comparing quake to doom. Very similiar, but I've played both and found enjoyment out of both. Perhaps one could be a little better, but why not try both?I think with a genre like this, it's just something each individual would just have to try. Everyone doesn't share the same interests in RPG's. I'm a fan of the Warcraft series but I'm also a fan of D&D. You get what you pay for in most cases, but you'll eventually lose interest. That's why there's always a competitor to take the rest of your money.

I'm sure someone will explain better than me, but since I found the post I'll put my $.02 in. I personally still use tables a lot, but it's possible to use <DIV> tags. Div tags are block elements, but they can be styled with css to do pretty much anything. <div> Header goes here </div><div style="float: left;width: 100px;"> Menu </div><div style="float: left;"> Main Content </div><div style="clear: both;"> Footer </div> I'm not 100% about that, but that's something of how it would work. Obviously there's more than one way to go about it as you could have nested <div>'s encased in a wrapper or whatever you like. The styling is up to you as well. Google a little and I'm sure you'll find plenty of examples. Templates for 3 column, 2 column or what have you. There's lots of different templates designed with div's on the web. It can be done, and is becoming more and more popular. If you're good with css then I think you should definately try using div's for you layout rather than tables.

Hopefully soon the images will be higher resolution over the areas where I live. I thought it was interesting to see all the features this app offers. I'll definately give v. 4 a look but it's still in beta. Hopefully they added areas I want to see.

The Moon Landing - Real Or Fake
minnieadkins replied to sandeep1405241520's topic in Science and Technology
I've always taken the moon landing for granted I guess. I never really questioned it. I still think it wasn't fake, but I'm not a very strong believe in my own opinion in this case. They sure put a lot into it if they faked it. I guess we'll never really know. -
Running xp pro. I did the fix as discussed in the first topic. I hope I can see some difference, but thus far I haven't noticed any changes. I'm on a 2 mbps connection. Only the future will tell.

Never played that one. I had some kind of roller coaster game here where you design a rollercoaster and it deals with physics etc. I'm more into other things at the moment, but I remember playing rollercoaster tycoon for hours when it came out. That was a fun game. A bit different aspect rather than design a single rollercoast but you still had that option, although it might not have been near as advanced.Fun times.

I snagged a few unbuntu cd's a few months back. It was a lower version than this obviously, and I ran the live cd. It seemed cool. I'm new to linux, but I ended up going with Mandrake 10 rather than Ubuntu. Should I try out ubunu instead though? I'm still new, like I said, and I'm just learning. I think linux is great, but Windows has spoiled me with it's use of use and treating me like an idiot if I don't know something lol. I'm fairly comfortable with computers and just getting in to it, and I'm starting with a few simple bash commands. Really don't know where to begin, but I think it's great .

Ha. Button mashing is fine, if it works for you. However, it won't beat all players. Also you won't be consistent. You just hit buttons and hope to make some type of impact. The people that actually know what they're doing obviously have more control. If they know enough moves and play the game enough they'll prob win vs a button masher. But hey it's for fun! Play until your fingers swell and ache lol.

Creating And Using Includes With PHP A simple tutorial
minnieadkins replied to Houdini's topic in Programming
Either that or set your configs to parse .inc files. I don't know much about server configurations though, but I think that would work as well. I'm not sure what you mean. You can't include a file that has a header and expect it to work properly. <html><head><title></title></head><body>Some file is including another file<?php include "somefile.php";?></body></html> if somefile contatined a header("location: http://www.mysite.com/;); http://forums.xisto.com/ it wouldn't work. Headers have already been sent. -
Use a Database Interface class. There are several available and keeps everything nicely organized. However you will still have to include a file that creates your database class ..or simply re-declare your database object in every script. I think the include method is a nice way to accomodate everything. Especially if you're working on personal stuff.I'm not too familiar with working with large-scale site, but I use a Pearl-like dbi to handle all of my database calls. Just connect once in an include file, and make reference to the database handle inside my scripts that need to interact with the db. There's one dbi mentioned on here, and it might be worth looking into. Adodb or something like that. It looks like a very nice dbi to standardize all your db calls no matter the database.
