Doom 3 grafix engine is great. But in order to cause everyone to go out and buy the best grafix card in order to run it...it's not that great for the $$. I think ID did this for a reason though because there are a lot of tweaks that you can do to increase your FPS in the game bye 10-15 easily. I was running the game at about 10-15 fps on my Geforce 4 ti 4800 se and then i read a few tweaks about using my system ram to cache the data. After i adjusted it a bit i got up to around 35 fps (but the quality of the grafix isn't GREAT) I definately suggest a good card in order to get the full experience that the engine offers. But overall, 30 fps runs smoother than a lot of games with higher fps, and no matter the resolution/settings it still looks great.

Yah i agree with previous post. Quake 3 is still one of my all time favs in the online mode, but doom 3 was great for single player. My roommate and I were both playing doom 3 (single player) there for awhile and we both really enjoyed it. Very nice grafix and finally beat it over a period of about 2 weeks or so. MULTIPLAYER was fun for like a lan game. But as far as going into depth on the multi part...it's just lacking. Unless a mod comes out soon that introduces something different.can't wait til quake 4 prob need new grafix card b4 then lol.

Alright I was thinking about downloading a free copy of linux...I hope it's still free. I was wondering what would be the "newbies" starting point for linux. This will be the first time running linux for me, so I'm not real sure of what to expect. Lots of command line is what I've heard about linux, which I'm comfortable in a dos prompt. So I hope that Linux goes well with me. Anyways any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I am self taught to some extent. It's been awhile since I've really got into coding up a site. Only coded up a couple of sites, but I'd rather be doing php. Everything that I'm interested involves forums, and html just doesn't it cut it in that department. Anyways I also bought a book. I think it makes a very nice reference if you ever get confused or stumble across something in html that you just quite don't understand. I still consider myself a noobie to html, because I don't know what is capable with it. I understand most of it, but sometimes it takes me awhile to grasp the idea of what I'm doing. I think maybe that's more of a design problem.

i seen GTA: Vice City for Xbox...so i figure GTA: San Andreas will also go to XBox...maybe i'm mistaken, but i'm pretty sure I've seen the GTA series crossing over. Halo 2 tho is still cool tho..hope the next gen. of consoles if kinda far away cos i haven't even gotten an xbox yet. sux to be poor lol..

I've used both photoshop and paintshop pro..i like both but i found painshop pro to be fairly easy to work with..especially for making sigs..avatars or whatever. I'm just a NOOB when it comes to grafix though..so i'm not advanced at any of the features in any of the apps. I do however want to learn how to make 3dimesnional images. A friend of mine has used "maya" i believe..and he rendered a nice 3d image of a fantasy character. Looked great.

lol hats off to you guys....lots to learn in this field..hope i can get an understanding of programming in general...much less learn to program a game or a 3d game.

sams teach yourself php in 21 days is suppose to be a good book....maybe you can get an ebook of it or something...i dont' know it myself...but i'm on the verge of trying to learn php also.first of all i need to become more advanced in what my programming skills...lol i'm pretty pathetic...just starting out and i'm pretty basic

halo was good, but i just don' t like the slow-paced action. I'm use to quake 3. shoot..run...jump...rail...etc. great games... But i do enjoy playing halo from time to time.. i find it hard to make the transition from the two games.
