  1. i think people should learn java first. It's simpler...and well...easier to understand. Java is pretty straightforward. C++ is abit more complex in my opinion...but then again i learned java first myself
  2. in my opinion...if a company was intelligent enough to overrun other companies...why not let them? They obviously earned it. If they did not do something terribly wrong why limit their authority? That is of course, just my opinion.
  3. as far as i know...i don't think so. I'm pretty sure they allow you to have your own ads here. Don't take my word for it though...if you can't find it pm the admin.
  4. i have to admit, iframes are probably better then the original frameset tags. I don't mind iframes too much...but frames can get pretty ugly for an unexperienced designer.
  5. well, that's where php comes in. PHP and mySQL pretty much eliminates the trouble of having to copy your coding from one page to another. But personally, I have nothing against frames. I am willing to browse through sites that have frames. But like jipman said, it's not a very good thing for search engines that's why there are few framed sites that are very successful.
  6. i wouldn;t say one application is better then the other...it depends on the user and their preference and style of graphic design. Personally, I like to use Photoshop over other applications...but that is simply because it's the software I started and learned from.
  7. in truth, it is simply a simplified version of 3D Studio Max. I used to use Studio Max, but it was such a large program...that I had to change to another application. I chose to use Cinema 4D only about fifty mb compared to the few hundred Studio Max required. Plus it is almost as powerful too.
  8. um...are you saying that swishmax has the ability to make preloaders? Not quite sure what was the reason why you'd suddenly give us a link to another flash-making program =P
  9. what I'm wondering is why you would want to kick off a frame at all. Some sites don't like it if you take off the frame on their pages. I guess this is just a curious feeling on my part.
  10. photoshop for sure. I like using it to edit my 3D abstracts from Cinema 4D and for my webdesigns. Very useful tool. I've also used Paint Shop Pro before, but it just doesn't seem as convient for me.
  11. lol, i see what you're saying, but I use to use a premade counter from one of these sites because it saves me the trouble of keeping track of my own php counter because of a lack of security. It just seems easier to stick a little code inside your site rather then having extra files in your file manager. Of course, I personally made a MySQL counter, but before I knew how to, I also relied on one of those stats sites
  12. i don't understand why people who use Linux/firefox and any other non-Microsoft product insists on all Microsoft loyalists on switching. If you have something against Microsoft's products, so be it. You do not need to gather others into your rebellion gainst Bill Gates. Perhaps others simply like Windows despite the "security holes" everyone is stressing on. I am not saying I am absolutely loyal to Microsoft in any way...but I am confused on why linux users want to "convert" all windows users to other os systems.
  13. all the way to the edge? You mean either on the left or right? Just set the margins to 0 (zero) and it should work. I'm sure Dreamweaver is capable of this...but I'm not a hundred percent sure being that I'm a notepad user =P if all else fails, put this as your body: <body margins="0">or do it through css: <style>body{margin:0;}</style>
  14. unusual brushes? That doesn't really narrow it down any. Grunge? Tech? Or something more cheerful/playful? At least give me your taste
  15. uh....well, personally, when i search for a web hosting service, I always check to make sure it has cpanel before signing up. I've used many different versions of it, and prefer it over any other control panel
  16. well, personally, I don't recommend using Illustrator after using Photoshop or even Paint Shop Pro...but a site you might like would be: http://www.pixel2life.com/ . Go to the sidebar on the left and choose Illustrator for a list of tutorials
  17. alright, I know a few different ways to make a random banner with php - where a different banner would rotate with every refresh/click. But I've had some "customers" complain how they think their banner should show up more then others for one reason or another, and I completely agree with them. So now I kinda want to have a code (most perferably php or javascript) that would have the banner rotation where I could set a peticular banner to show up say 15% of the time and another 5% so I could satisfy my more loyal members over the ones simply looking for more hits to their site. Can someone give me a way of doing this? And I don't want to do something like this:banner1.gifbanner1.gifbanner1.gifbanner1.gifbanner2.gifbanner2.gifbanner2.gifbanner2.gifbanner2.gifbanner3.gifbanner3.gifbanner4.gifbanner5.gifbanner6.figbecause I'm a too lazy to make those kind of calculations everytime someone joins my banner rotation system. Alright then. THanks in advance for anyone willing to help me out here
  18. well, being that the original question is what browser do you web design for...i'd have to say IE. Majority of the population of online users still use Internet Explorer. I think web designers should always base a layout on the browser that is being used the most...the browser i prefer, however, is mozilla firefox.
  19. i guess...if you're looking for free...there's always Notepad for windows and TextEdit for macs. I think they both come as a default application...heh...but i guess they're not really considered a html editor =P
  20. yea....i've noticed this as well. Perhaps webmasters think frames are an easy way out of actual designing? But it is most likely cause using frames isn't as effective and thus designers laugh in contempt when they see others try to make use of them =P
  21. wow....how many times is this topic going to show up? I don't know how many of these "which is best" topics i've seen thus far lol. Well, personally, I use Photoshop and Cinema 4D. Cinema to make a 3D rendering, and Photoshop to spice it up. My current signature is made completely by Photoshop, but i combined the two programs to make this layout: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  22. hmm, well thanks for the help. From prodigy and and all the other peeps around here willing to help me out. I guess I'll try to stay in the computer/tech forums...but begin visiting the general forums more often
  23. it is because you posted in forums that does not increase your post count. You have to post in one of the forums under the computers section just a little rule the staff set up to prevent spaming
  24. haha, that's awesome. A terabyte of HD? Wow...it's truly amazing how much space is needed as time progresses. I still remember when computers only have 16-32mb of space
  25. hmm....well, if you want to make a random picture show with PHP, i recommend using a sode somewhat like the one described on this tutorial: http://www.ethicsdesigns.com/rg-erdr.php?_rpo=t i've used it before and it works well. Not too sure if this is what you're searching for though =P
