Review My Xoops Site... opensource cms based
Darren1405241470 replied to rapco's topic in General Discussion
What browser were you using? I used Opera and I got no problems at all be that automatic downloads, cookies or freezes. -
There also seems to be a mysql problem when you try to see a list of people by votes given in the reputation mod. I've tried it a couple of diferent times in diferent ways and it dosen't seem to work. If the admins could fix that it would be nice.Thanx in advance .BTW I believe the most apropriate section to put this topic in would have been the "Comments and Feedback" section.

Review My Xoops Site... opensource cms based

For a start I love the clour scheme and I think the placement of the menu, recent articles/elements/uploads etc. is good. Personally I hate the font in the top left because I can't read the damn stuff, you may choose to leave it though as it kindof goes with the rap style thing . Two things I don't think fit in properly is:1) The search and cotinue buttons and associated dropdown lists etc. I would change their colour to suit the rest of the page (perhaps make the buttons that shaded blue and the text boxes a kindof darker grey).2) The calender has the same problem of looking out of place. Dunno what you're gonna do about that but you should change it somehow.Hope I helped you with your already very good design . -
Google Dominance Is Google getting too big?

Actually in that post Chronic Loser had clarified that "if they did not do something terribly wrong". That of course excludes Microsoft from the running as they've done tonnes of "terribly wrong" things. Actually I disagree with both of you. Companies are not successful because they have completed what you deem to be an impressive feat, they are successful because they have completed their own goals which they have previously set. -
New Reputation Thing What do you all think?
Darren1405241470 replied to Darren1405241470's topic in Web Hosting Support
The point is so that people new to the site know who makes comments that most people think are worth reading and which posts not to take any notice of. If you had've read some of the previous posts you would know that we have already discussed that at current you could make fake accounts to do this and you would also know that we have already suggested that to prevent this users should not be allowed to add points untill they have reached a to-be-determined number of posts/reputation points. Either way the admins can simply take the points away or even delete your account if they think you're cheating the system. If you dislike them because you disagree on some opinionative points then no I don't think you should take their reputation points away (unless they are simply disagreing to everything that you say just sto be annoying), however if you don't like them because they have made aimless posts that are too short and lacking in decent content or have broken the rules (which you should report too) then I believe that you should lower their reputation. NOTE: The above is just my opinion and at current the rules about reputation changing have not been set in place. I think that the only reason you dislike the reputation mod is that it requires a little thought. -
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post it but anyway... What is with r3d closing those topics when they get to 9 pages? If I was interested in the topic than I would read more than 9 pages. Take books for example, when a person is intersted in something they might try to find a book on it and most books have hundreds of pages in them.

New Reputation Thing What do you all think?
Darren1405241470 replied to Darren1405241470's topic in Web Hosting Support
I agree with Majestic and say that the users with the "newbie" tag (less than 10 posts) should not be allowed to change other peoples reputation. Ten posts should be more than enough to put people off making accounts specifically to change someone's rep. -
I think its definately best to have an option for both, therefore having the best looking page you can for those who want to view it and still not excluding those with slower connections/comps from viewing a more content specific version. If you only have one of them then you are most likely to be blocking potential viewers/customers depending on what your site is about.

Google Dominance Is Google getting too big?
Darren1405241470 replied to OpaQue's topic in Search Engines
I was only joking when I said I sounded mature and didn't really mean anything by it . Anyway I'm sure that most 15 year olds can handle people swearing and that the only people who couldn't handle it wouldn't be old enough to manage to find their way to or be interested in this forum. Either way there shounldn't be any needfor anyone to swear. -
Members List For This Forum
Darren1405241470 replied to daniel151405241469's topic in General Discussion
If you look closely on the forum home there is a link to the top ten posting members near the bottom. Yay I'm the 6th most posting member on the forum. Actually the link is a bit wrong. It tells you its gonna send you to the top ten posting members but it actually goes to the list of members in alphabetical order . -
Www.free-webhosts.com When privacy is not kept
Darren1405241470 replied to iGuest's topic in General Discussion
The other person from Melbourne was me . I don't actually live in Melbourne but it is only a 1 and a half hour drive from my house and its alot more well known so its close enough. Anyway I agree that most of the stuff on the site is ok to show and I don't think any of us actually care but I do think we should have been warned when we signed up, or were we? -
There are actually quite alot of good games for Linux - The Sims 2 and Unreal Tournament, just to name a couple. I wouldn't quite say that almost everyone uses windows. Certainly alot of people do out of sheir lazyness (like me ) but there are still alot of people who use macs and a precious few who use an open source OS (linux/unix/solaris).
-
I have also found that alot of free web hosts either have very little bandwidth/space or are down more than 30% of the time which is just unacceptable. I haven't had the time or the imagination to even start my website yet so haven't really tested this servers capabilities yet. There are however several people who I trust that have said that this server can do all they say they can so I'm happy.

My three (can't pick between them) favourite movie's would have to be The Matrix (first one ahead of the others who come second respectively), Troy , and Gladiator. All of them of course being highly rated action movies.

Stop Spam Harvesters add a Honey Pot to your site
Darren1405241470 replied to NilsC's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I think that this project is a great idea and as soon as I get a website running I will sign up for it. I will try almost anything to help stop or at least lower the amount of spamming that goes on. Thanks for the link . -
Browser Test See if your browsers passes the test
Darren1405241470 replied to hashbang's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I have just found a site which has a description on how dto crash Mozilla Firefox but I can't find a quick link to a page that actually crashes it and as I have g2g in a minute I don't have time to test it. The site is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ . I will test it later if nobody else tests it first. -
Google Dominance Is Google getting too big?
Darren1405241470 replied to OpaQue's topic in Search Engines
That depends who you class as a "grownup". Admittedly i sound and look very mature and of course I'm very smart but the fact is I'm still only 15 and I don't turn 16 until may 2006 . Am I possibly the youngest person here? -
Agreed Harry Potter does rule! The Prisoner of Azkaban is the best movie so far in my opinion with the one thing that I don't like about it being that the werewolf in it is the most hopeless looking werewolf i've ever seen ! It's so tall and skinny.

I also enjoy Creeds music though they are not my favourite band. If you like them then you should check out Alter Bridge too. They are now using Creed's lead guitarist and are in no way religous .

The Name Game Whats the basis for the name Astahost?
Darren1405241470 replied to hashbang's topic in Web Hosting Support
Ok, i really feel like a cookie right now so I'm gonna have a go at guessing. When you were first trying to think of a good name for yourself on a forum you started looking for idea's in your favourite things. You started with the name of your favourite band but no that was taken, then you trried your favourite sperting team but that too was gone, you even tried your favourite piece of clothing but it too was taken . After thinking a while longer (this is the stage that ThinkEr got her name) you finally remembered this bizarre little story about a majestic tree frog that was kissed by a princess who died from the poison which was the frogs only defence mecanism. You decided it was worth a shot so you tried it, and of course that was taken too. So you thought "screw this board I'm gonna find one that has less people to take my names". That is why you came to this board and are using "MajesticTreeFrog" as your name. Hmmm... I don't think that either of us actually thought this through, after all how the heck am i gonna get this cookie? By the time you've mailed it to me it'll be stale. Ahh well I guess i'll have to make my own . -
I agree that its a bit better than your html layouts. I would change the light purple colours to a kind of darker blue though. Darker so it matches the grey better and blue because I like blue .BTW what the hell is Ovo - Northern Spy?

Possibility Of A Google Os ?
Darren1405241470 replied to jwcgator's topic in Websites and Web Designing
i think its called CherryOS or maybe not.. i cant find a good link. anyways, there IS an open source clone of MS windows, which is compatable with windows applications, no emulation ! however last time i looked, it was a long way from being finished. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cherry OS is actually an emulator which lets you run a Mac OS on your PC. It's out now and you can download it for about $50. You can proabably find more info here. I also agree that with Majestic and Dizasta on a Google OS not being what is needed right now but if it does come out and is good then I would try it to see what it's like.
