  1. I have heard say that Microsoft will some time in the future attemp to challenge google with their own search engine. Does anyone know anything about it? I can't beleive that they could rival google but they should produce at least an ok search engine.
  2. I couldn't agree more. What makes a professoinal is mostly the result that they produce, not how they do it. Although I myself am ow beginning to use Dreamweaver MX as it is powerful and simple .
  3. This is again where you are wrong im afraid. There are also some people (not many I admit) that begin using computers with Linux because of a suggestion from friends and then 6 months later try Windows and use it. It all depends on what you use a computer for as to which system you use. I believe that Linux is considerably more secure than windows (free too ). However I have been told that the games and multimedia are best supported on windows. Don't know about multimedia but I would believe that the games would be better.
  4. You were right. I was told something wrong. Google uses more than 100 different variables to rank it's search results, including but of course not limited to the one mentioned above. For more details refer to - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Sorry about giving you all the wrong answer. .
  5. I wouldn't be suprised if someone at the patent office got a bit of a pay rise after that . From what I can remember Microsoft never used to be anywhere near this dirty, but then that may just have been because i was younger and so more partial to Microsofts propoganda.
  6. I have a friend who stubbornly sticks with his Mac. It really annoys me because i hate them. I always have. Probably because I play so many games and Mac games suck big time. Also as said above windows supports multimedia much better. I think it is more widely used and so, supported to which always helps when getting tech support etc. .
  7. Actually a lot of prople do choose Win XP. Most of them haven't even heard of Linux let alone tried it, however some people who have thoroughly tested both systems still stick with Win XP. I can't give an opinion on which is better though because i've never even tried Linux. I hope to some time in the near future.
  8. Your in the right place . This is one of, if not the best free web host currently available. It has everything you should need and more. So far I don't think any of the hosted members have had any unresoveable problems. .
  9. Thanks for that. I will PM OpaQue to ask for the DNS change.
  10. I've now changed my default browser to Opera. IE is getting to old and outdated. Even though it is the most widely used and supported browser it is in my mind one of the worst. It's security is absolutely terrible and I have heard that they are not going to update it anymore. True? Either way I'm very happy with opera and I know that it will always continue to be updated.
  11. I first learnt HTML a couple of years ago when i first became intersted in designing my own websites. I learnt it here - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I would definitely recommend this tutorial. From memory I don't think it has all the parts of HTML but it has all the essentials and an as you go demo for you to work along with. I am more into the coding than design. So I change between dreamweaver MX and plain old notepad. The only other thing i would use is a colour schemer which Lhunath showed me .
  12. I have finnally changed my default browser over from the widely supperted and yet utterly hopeless IE to the all round great browser Opera. It took me a long time to do but i just can't put up with the insufficient security of IE. I will still keep IE around to check my website in but apart from that it will be used no more !
  13. I don't think Firefox is the best either. It's a really good browser withit's plugins but don't think anyone can beat opera. It's fast and reliable. Anyway, to play flash in firefox all you have to do is download macromedia falsh player. You can get it from here - http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/windows.html It's a list of some of the most popular plugins for Mozilla browsers. Most of the plugins work for both browsers and if it dosen't it will say so on the right.
  14. There are several other things which might destroy the internet:-As mentioned before, another faster more reliable type of network becomes the more favoured option and the current internet become outdated and unused. . -A series of volcanic eruptions destroying part of the earth and covering the rest of it in a thinck cloud of ash and smoke blocking out the sun. (possibly what killed the dinosaurs?). -The internet becomes so overrun with virus's etc. that no-one uses it. or of course there is always my personal favourite: -The world is taken over by alien life forms!!! (possibly a race of giant ants?)
  15. Kazaa I will admit, is an absolutely hopeless program. It won't even run without the spyware that is included in it's original download. Limewire however is an exelent file sharing alternative. It comes without spyware and i have not yet come accross a single virus/spyware/malware etc. disguised as something else (and i have downloaded hundreds of assorted programs/songs/images/text files).I highly recommend it too anyone.
  16. Google ranks you on how many link you have comming from other sites to yours. To up your ranking all you have to do is convice other sites that your is so good that they should have a link to it.
  17. Is there really much point in getting your computer to run at 7 or even 6 GHz? (Besides showing off to everybody you know ) There aren't many programs that would need that. Of course it might be nice if you were running your own server from home, but that's about the only use I would have for it.
  18. I think you need to read over what you have written. You have either lied or made a fairly large typo, and back to the subject of the loony with a website. I don't know what he was thinking actually suggesting people regress back to the rather lacking standards of Microsofts IE. He goes on to bag the web standardization project which is just not on. If everyone followed some relatively simple rules then the web would be a much happier place for everyone!
  19. I have just bought myself a domain name (gamesunited.co.uk) however unfortunately i have no idea how to replace your sub-domain with it. Can you help me?
  20. I suggest that instead of adding gimmicky type things like page transitions you should spend your time on things the surfers will want like your actual page content. I have always found page transitions to be very annoying and uneeded time waster. Unless your web page is simply to show off your web capabilities?
  21. The fact that PHP is open source would almost be enough for me to use it over ASP. However the fact that it is actually a much better language that is updated much quicker clinches it. Open Source & PHP rule!
  22. I used to use notepad all the time but lately i have begun to use dreamweaver MX 2004 more often. Only in coding mode of course. It is a little slow but the extra options save quite alot of time. It especially helps when i get to adding colours .
  23. I think a forum on the site would be an exelent idea, however i do suggest that you wait until you have a few regular visitors. If you don't have anyone contributing then others won't come because they think it is unpopular and therfore no good and your site will "die".
  24. The only thing hard about programming is trying to remember what all the command etc. do. At least that was the hardest thing for me. Understanding how they work was never really a problem. most cammands are relatively simple to work. BTW- This does not necisarily go for ASM as i have never learnt it.
  25. This language is very complicated considering the minimal amount of commands. I greatly admire anyone who takes the time to use it on complex programs. Even simple programs for that matter. Are there many games written in it? Does anyone know where i try some out?
