  1. It's easy to do redirection by adding a command in htaccess. The htaccess file is a file which a server will look up first before serving a page. Go edit your .htaccess file, usually found in public_html folder and add the following line: Redirect /page1.html http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The page1.html is the page you want to redirect, its position relative from the public_html folder. The address that follow points to the page you want your visitors to be reditrected to.
  2. Even the big commercial free webhost like Tripod, Netfirms, Geocities, and so on can't to Xisto. The above host don't offer cPanel at all and a lot of features like php isn't supported at all.
  3. This is getting interesting.. Google is becoming more and more like Yahoo! and MSN. Google used to only have a superb search engine, now they're moving into other areas as well like Instant Messaging, just like Yahoo! and MSN. I wonder if Google would become just another Yahoo or MSN.I don't think I'll give Google Talk a try. MSN Messenger works well for me.
  4. I tried Web1000.com before, at first I was very impressed with their model of free web hosting which they explained on their site. But I soon found out that they are like the rest of the other free hosts out here, unreliable.
  5. Free software are often bundled with spyware and adaware. That's how they make their money. Remember, there's no free lunch on Earth. Even the best software out there has to find a way of making money if it's distributed freely. It's your choice whether you want to use free software and install the adwares as well.
  6. Wow, I didn't know that it is possible to change the font on a mobile phone! Did you write this program youself? How do you know the source code to the mobile phone software? Do you have access to it? Does changing the font do damge to the phone? Will it crash it?
  7. Just one week ago, my account with Xisto was suspended out of the blue. I wasn't out of hosting credits, so it's not possible that I'm suspended due to a lack of hosting credits. I waited for days for my account to come back, I PMed the admins like Nilsc who replied that my account was suspended due to "higher cpu usage". I thought, this was it, that's what you get for free web-hosting. I thought my account is terminated. Then I emailed OpaQue, and he kindly took time to restore my account despite him being busy with setting up a new server over at Xisto - Web Hosting. Within days, he restored my account completely. My previous experience with free hosts is that their customer service sucks. There isn't any to start with, since we aren't even "customers". We're getting free hosting, mind you.But Xisto clearly is different. I believe that if it is any other free host, my emails would be ignored and no one would bother to recover my account. But not Xisto. My account is vital to me because I have a rather busy and popular site on it. So you can imagine the anxiety I was put through. For this episode, I would give Xisto 10/10 points.Free webhosting was never this good!!
  8. I don't think that the makers of p2p programs should be penlized for what the end-users are doing on the programs, haring pirated music. p2p technology in itself can be highly useful, for example in sharing large files in open-source community like Linux. p2p technology should not be penalized, it's unfair to the technology.
  9. It is my belief that Google will buy up Technorati. They're moving aggressively into blogs and blogging, and Technorati will complement their Blogger service perfectly. Yahoo! has bought blo.gs recently and Flickr, and I think they will be lacking of the cash right now.

    Music Editing

Are these music-editing software free? I've always wanted to experiment with creating music on my own, but I've always lacked the resources and software to record and edit music. Is there such a thing as a free music-creating and editing software? I don't want to buy and invest in such software, I know that they are not cheap.
  11. I have a Friendster account but I don't use MySpace. Is MySpace somthing like Friendster? Friendster has blogs, can allow you to post your profiles and pictures, and meet new friends. Is it something like that?
  12. 45,000 USD sure is a lot of money!! I wonder if the competition is open to people from outside Japan? If I knew how to do designing for logos and symbols, I would want to take part too. Some tips on logo design below. Credits: http://ww12.grantasticdesigns.com/
  13. Is it me and my computer? There's no search results displayed whenever I conducted a search on Dogpile? I typed in a query, and Dogpile returned nothing, just its logo and a blank page. Does this happens to you too?
  14. I've read an article before which teaches you how to do the same thing to a Gmail account, such that you can store your files on your Gmail account as though it's a hard disk which can be accessible from the Internet anywhere, and the files are organized like in a hard disk. I think it's cool to be able to access your files from anywhere in the world, with a connection to the web.
  15. As for me, I'm not a serious web designer, so Microsoft Frontpage is good enough for me. I've never taken HTML coding and web designing lessons before, so it will be hard for me to code a page from the basics.
  16. Hi, my account has been suspended despite me having not run out of hosting credits for the previous days. It has never dropped below 0, and yet my account is suspended. I can't login to cPanel either, my username and password is rejected although I know for sure that I've typed in the correct stuff. I suspect that it's due to me overshooting disk quota, although I can't be very sure since the disk quota checker has been experiencing problems for quite some time. May I know what happends if you overshoot your disk quota? Do you get suspended like the case when you run out of bandwidth or hosting credits? Any help is kindly appreciated. Thanks very much! I'm terribly sorry for double-posting, but I forgot to mention that my website is at http://www.coolbusinessideas.com/ and there's no edit feature here. So sorry.
  17. If you are concerned with pricing and affordability, why not check out a wonderful piece of free, open-source software, the GIMP? https://www.gimp.org/ Although it's free, it's highly useful and funcational and can do many of the things Photoshop and Corel and the non-free software offers. Why not download it and give it a try.
  18. I would recommend you Wordpress which you can download at https://wordpress.org/. It's very easy to use and easily customizable to suit your website layout. In fact, you can install it via your cPanel's Fantasico, it's in there. If you want to be more advanced, I would recommend Movable Type at https://movabletype.org/. It's used by many professional and commercial companies to power their blogs.
  19. Maybe you can try the quality and speed by downloading and using Skype, which is a piece of software which allows you to make calls over your broadband connection using the same voIP technology. Note that the free software is definitely nowhere as good as a paid service. https://www.skype.com/en/
  20. I think most of the big free web-hosting providers don't allow you to put thrid-party ads on your websites. It competes with their own ads which they force on your website, you see. But generous hosts like Xisto allow you to server third-party ads on your site, that I'm very sure of.
  21. But sometimes, when using Internet Explorer, i can't view the HTML source code of the page I'm viewing at all. Don't tell me that there's also a way to even prevent the user from viewing the HTML source code of the page?
  22. I think one thing you should consider is whether you're confident of generating much money via, say, Google Adsense because most PPCs have an earnings threshold before they pay you your earnings. For eg, for Adsense, you have to earn over US$100 before they mail you your earnings. So if you aren't confident of reaching that treshold, it's no point signing up for the program because whatever earnings you have will remain locked up in your account until you reached that point.
  23. I always use white colour for my background. I think it's an essential colour and an important one in web designing, maybe becuase typography looks good on a white background. A lot of professionally designed websites almost always use white background. It must be that it makes it easier to read on a white background.
  24. Well, I suppose an alternative way is to convert .rm files to mp3 or wma files or other formats which Windows Media Player can play. I downloaded a format converting software sometime ago, but failed to convert real files to mp3. It may be a lack of the correct codec. I cant find the real codec anyway.

    Opensourcecms

Wow! This site is fabulous! I've always wanted to try ou those open-source scripts in my cPanel's Fantasico, but it's quite troublesome to remove them if I decide not to use anymore. With this site, we can easily try out a demo and see what's the script is like.
