  1. This is true. The income tax they collect applies to U.S. users. However, if you live outside of the U.S. but you have somebody who works for you in the U.S. or somebody affiliated with your site who is American, then you may still be subject to this tax. There are some choices that you can make when you're setting up your tax information.
  2. I love SuSE as well. Unfortunately, the German company (SuSE GmBH) was acquired by Novell. This significantly reduced the image of open-source and freedom. In fact, SuSE is becoming similar to RedHat Linux now; Novell actually dares to charge people for SuSE!It is fortunate that there is openSuSE (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) which has been useful to almost all previous SuSE users.By the way, Kubuntu and Edubuntu are now also available for free pressed and shipped CD's. I requested them at the end of May. Visit kubuntu.com and edubuntu.com and click on ShipIt Free CDs.
  3. Most ad services pay with a cheque, PayPal, or bank transfer. Google AdSense (in Canada and the United States, as well as some other countries) primarily offers cheques and EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer). If you're under 18, you couldn't use PayPal anyways, but you might still be able to cash a cheque (pardon the Canadian spelling). If you have a bank account, EFT might be the easiest way to go. For more details, see In response to the second part of your post, you should post adverts on your site after it becomes prominent, and after there has been sufficient content. I have seen your site (isn't it altscripts.trap17.com?) and it has sufficient content to be accepted for some services (possibly BidVertiser - http://www.bidvertiser.com/) but which might not be enough for Google AdSense. If you have a CMS (which you don't), you should probably accumulate at least 30 articles. If you have a forum, I suggest you wait until you get to more than 50 quality posts. For Google AdSense, you might want to read OpaQue's post at http://forums.xisto.com/topic/82601-google-adsense-pay-per-click-cpc-program-review/ (which seems a bit biased) and then their official site https://www.google.com/adsense/start/?gsessionid=3-GWxCTWt89HsBlQWCE0BQ. Your general topic has been answered on Xisto http://forums.xisto.com/topic/85664-adsense-age-limit/. (By the way, this topic seems to be very helpful.) Moreover, it really doesn't matter how many visitors you have per day, or per week, or per month, although some programs will require a lot of visitors. A small forum could qualify, if there are quality posts and some dedicated users. To check how many visitors you have on a forum, you could simply look at the stats. If you have cPanel, go to "Web Stats" and choose Awstats. This tool has been very helpful to me. I think that you could probably try to develop your site first, and possibly improve the design. Afterwards, it would be a good idea to refine your content. At that point, you could try signing up for an ad service. In fact, by then, you could be 18!
  4. My cPanel account username is "[edit: removed content]", and I signed up for Plan 1 (the lesser of the two plans). When I logged in at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, the account worked, but there was no way to add or remove any addons or parked domains. The primary domain I'm using is "[edit: removed content]". From experience, I know that it is possible (and applicable) to delegate a subdomain to other nameservers. Although I have Managed DNS and [edit: removed content] is managed elsewhere, it is possible, through the modification of NS records, to delegate a subdomain. However, ns1.trap17.com and ns2.trap17.com are virtually non-existent.
  5. Wow. I didn't even know NASA could fund another project like this especially when they've got the rover on Mars. But really, imagine if the Star Trek fiction was real; that when the probes left the solar system, they were picked up by aliens. Still, it would be so much better for mankind if there could be communications faster than light. After all, the distance from Earth to Pluto is enough that there's 10 years difference between it sending info from Pluto and Earth receiving the signals. Also, Earth to Pluto is not enough to satisfy one light-year, and therefore our journey to the stars has just begun. (Hope the aliens contact us when we make our first warp - faster-than-light - space flight.)
  6. I've been having some great difficulty trying to delegate my domain to Xisto.com. After a little research to see whether I should use the IP addresses of the nameservers, I found out that my ISP's DNS servers have no record of "ns1.trap17.com" or "ns2.trap17.com".Are there IP addresses for them, or are they down? Notice from BuffaloHELP: Take topic title and description seriously. Name them relating to your post. "Servers Down" can mean anything. Be specific!
  7. Another really, really good tutorial can be found at http://www.webmasterstop.com/48.html. At that address, the tutorial doesn't only explain how to set up Apache, but also PHP, MySql, phpMyAdmin, and Zend Optimizer, for Windows. In short, it explains how to create a W.A.M.P (Windows-Apache-MySql-PHP) server. The only thing not really good about the tutorial is that it doesn't use the most recent software as examples. It explains the entire set up process in detail, but only for However, it's so detailed that every click in the installers are described and every line of code needed to be added (if there are any) are quoted. I highly recommend it.
  8. I requested hosting authorization in the application forum, and then I applied at https://support.xisto.com/. I registered with the username "fjding" and everything turned out fine... Until I tried to log in. Numerous times, I tried to log in at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. I even tried to log in at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/! I know that the username and password are correct because of the confirmation page. But I simply cannot log in.
  9. Actually, if you're using a domain of your own and you've created a subdomain (hence subdomain.domain.com or subdomain.example.com), then the files associated with that subdomain are in a folder of the same name, located in "public_html". Of course, if you're referring to subdomain.domain.com simply as username.trap17.com, then what I just said doesn't apply.
  10. "www" isn't exactly a shortcut. Technically, it's an alias for the "public_html" folder. When you use the File Manager or a good FTP client, it'll show a little arrow in the icon to signify that it's a shortcut.
  11. That site has too many ads. Besides, all it really provides are a FEW templates, and the rest are links to affiliates, partners, and advertisements. It's pretty annoying, since once I visited a site just like it, then clicked a link to a partner site, and when I wanted to download a template from that partner site, it was a link back to the original site.Site 1 -> Site 2 -> Site 1 -> Site 3 -> Site 2, etc.
  12. How much does one "view" and one "click" usually pay for AdSense members? I don't see how someone could earn $2 from just "a few clicks" unless either a "few clicks" means 20 clicks, or you get $.50 per click.
  13. I find the ads on this web site to be pretty annoying. I usually don't click on distracting banners or big animated pictures unless it actually has to do with what I want to get to. This is one reason why I like Google AdSense better than all those ads at the top of the page.I really wonder, if Xisto wants to make money off of ads, shouldn't non-intrusive ads and ads that are actually related be more preferable than distracting banners? Also, I believe that the space provided is enough for most people that use it legitimately. There's usually no need for more, unless that user is providing downloads, etc.
  14. I also think that the drawing is pretty crude. It explains the cycle pretty well, although the writing looks as though a 2nd grader drew it. Personally, I find the nova or super-nova phase the coolest, although if the Sun went nova in our lifetimes (not likely) I doubt anyone would be happy. Still, if the human race could somehow study a nova as it happened and then somehow manage to preserve that information through the nova, maybe in the future, other alien races might benefit from it.
  15. The idea of warnings is kind of universal when it comes to forum software. Whether it's InvisionBoard, PhpBB, or vBulletin, there's always some form of punishment for violations of the policies. Of course, I do find that many websites tend not to employ it at all. It's a good idea to punish users who don't play by the book, but wouldn't it be beneficial if negatives (which is allowed) were used for very professional users as an incentive to stay crime-free?
  16. I'd get a tablet PC (kind of like a convertable laptop), since I don't like the bulky desktop, but I don't like the featureless laptop. Especially because in Canada, it's hard to get a decent, recent laptop for only $850 (CANADIAN).One of the easy places to get tablet PC's is on eBay, but you really can't trust the person who's advertising from 5000 miles away.
  17. Notebook LCD1024x728Currently at 32-bit depth for colour, makes the Windows gray toolbars and stuff look slightly brownish. After reading about how 32-bit slows down many old computers (my computer's a Pentium II), I might consider changing to 16- or 24-bit.
  18. Because I've canceled my old e-mail account, people will have to request invites at this new address now:washingtondcjag<hyphen>temp1<at>yahoo.caReplace the <hyphen> and <at> tag with the appropriate symbols, - and @.I've got 100 invites in each of my primary accounts, although one of them is strictly professional, so technically I can only distribute 200 invites.I'd appreciate it if the person requesting the invite could donate some hosting credits, but that is optional. If you'd like, you could donate to me on Hostbidder.com (but unfortunately I can't use referral links on this site). So, just contact me. I've receive one request so far but the guy hasn't used the invite yet. It's a shame, since my invite count gets reset every week or less.
  19. Dymondgurl, your thoughts are completely incorrect. What "functions on the section that you read the email on"? And the reply and forward features are not small! They're easy to find! You can also press r to fast reply and f to forward, you know, after you allow it in your settings. "Link to the directions for the POP accounts on the login page"? THAT's proposterous, and would jeopardize the security of the site. You could easily just sign in and click on Help to see "POP Access", which is one of the biggest topics. "...it seems they will lose a lot of subscribers like that." That's not right. The reply and forward links are so visible that only a total Yahoo! or Hotmail user could miss them. "...took me a while to find it. I'm pretty sure i'm not the only one." Of course you're not the only one, there are billions of people out there! However, considering the fact that over half of those people are probably computer illiterate, they don't count. "...settings option on the top with the sign out. i would think the settings would be on the left navigation with everything else. it's kind of confusing if you think about it." That's incorrect as well. "Settings" placed next to "Help", "New Features" and "Log out" make perfect sense. Not to mention that it's near the big search box. Think of Hotmail, where the log out button is tiny and is near the top of the screen, and where the options link is nearly obscure. Then think of Yahoo Mail where the sign out is a tiny link below your username at the top of the screen and where the options link is a button over to the right most of the screen. Then think of how both Hotmail and Yahoo have oversized, bulky ads except for the premium subscribers. What are you thinking, how could you want to redesign the layout?
  20. By the way, my message was directed at "askingboss", not any of the other replies.
  21. You're quite incorrect. Although it may seem unjust from your point of view, you did not consider that ever since Rogers partnered up with Yahoo! to offer the Extreme service, users had to use or buy their own cable modem. It is true that the price is near $100 dollars, but it could also be true that your friend got it replaced for free because Rogers didn't want a bad reputation. Now, I really believe that you shouldn't be expressing anger at Rogers. It should be directed at your friend who used you as a scapegoat to complain to Rogers. Check their website. They have stated plainly that for the Extreme service at 5 Mbps, you must provide your own cable modem, buy one for around $100, or rent one every month for around $3.99. This is because they cannot support giving users that good of a service while still providing the cable modem as they do with the lower-priced plans. (Remember, the Extreme plan has the same fee as the Express plan, with the exception of the cable modem issue.)Contact Rogers' Customer Support center and complain to them (just like your friend did) about how your friend got the modem for free but you didn't. Be sure to state that he was using an old cable modem and he was comparing his speeds to yours. Lastly, remember that Rogers had a recent cable modem upgrade where everybody traded in their old modems for new DOCSIS ones. If you and your friend both got slow internet connections, it's not Rogers' fault because they did offer to replace the modems.
