  7. I think it was Office 2003 that was horrible version, can't remember though, although 2007 was a great improvement because of Vista. I have to say 2010 has been the best version Microsoft has ever put out or rather the first time they actually got the suite right for once. Of course, its online features are definitely great especially since they added a Facebook application to 2010 and so it makes it a lot easier then using skydrive for uploading documents and what not.Of course, I would hope that Google Docs would spend some time with it and add some more features to their suite and give it a face lift as well.

  9. In short life, I been here a good five years, through many changes, updates, new people coming in and old people leaving. To be honest why I left, the complaining and lack of patience, and the school yard fights between members. When I first joined it was mostly teenagers who were here, heck 95% of the members are teenagers, of course the smart ones grow up and go to school and get off the internet. Although my other theory are social networking websites and Google being able to answer all your questions.Still am surprise I am a Mod, granted I did the duties as such but the I use to have is no longer there.Granted I have enough MyCents were I don't have to ever come back for good decade so there is that too.
  10. OH HELL YEAH BABY OHIO HAS GONE DOWN!!

  11. I prefer either or, but I since I only have premium it is good enough for me. However, if I wanted to upgrade my machines I would go as far as the business version since it is more practical for my needs and of course it has Virtual XP. Of course, XP still has a long shelf life thanks to the hate Vista got and still has, however, because of how Windows 7 has been running for me at least. I want to see people start switching over to it, not because of IE9, but it is more stabled and more secure then one would think.
  12. One of the biggest headaches for most web designers is SEO or Search Engine Optimization, and the reason is that is because the major search engines have different ways to index websites. Of course, there are plenty of CMS software such as Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal that have SEO built in, but if your building a straight website then your in luck. SEO Warrior written by John Jerkovic, gives an intensive look how to understand and code SEO into your websites. This book is 18 chapters long and so it is definitely a long reading in order to get a good grasp on using SEO in your website. This book covers such things as link building, keywords, social networking, robots, web stats, and rankings to name a few. Right away I think the most important sections that readers should read in this book is SEO Traps, Social networking, SEO marketing, sitemaps, and content. I would rate those as must read chapters in order to understand what SEO consists of, however, because this book covers a lot in SEO using this book to begin the SEO phase of your website is definitely necessary. On the other hand, if your using software with built in SEO then your already halfway there, but in order to understand what is going on with Wordpress and Joomla I recommend having this book around in order to get a better idea to use SEO more effectively.Overall, this book is loaded with great information and a must have if your working on websites for other people or building a social networking heavy website that includes such websites like Twitter and Facebook. So grab yourself a copy and begin the wonderful world of SEO.
  13. One of the biggest things going on right now in the web design world is HTML5, a lot sites have either converted or about to convert to one of the most simplified languages out there. Of course, there is a lot new things HTML5 has to offer and of course a lot things either removed or giving an interesting update to be more effective in web design. In order to understand what is going on with HTML5 you best start your book collection to get a good idea what is going on in order to use HTML5 properly and quickly. The book that I am going to discuss is HTML5 Designing Rich Internet applications by Matthew David in which he covers a lot on what HTML5 has to offer including JavaScript, various AJAX libraries, and CSS. He also provides a lot code within his application examples such as forms, slideshows, CSS layouts, audio, video and more. After reading this book you will understand that HTML5 supports quite a few technologies and in fact replaces a lot of code that has been developed over the last ten years. I would have to say the most\t important sections of book include SVG support, Canvas, CSS, structuring of websites, the latest depreciated code, and of course forms themselves. I would have to say that this book is a good starting point in learning how to code for HTML5 and after that any other HTML5 books would worth looking at. Such as Programming for the Mobile Web, HTML5 Designing Rich Internet applications, and even HTML5: Up and Running. So I definitely recommend the pick up as the Latest generation of browsers, FF4, IE9, Chrome 7, Safari 5 support a good portion of HTML5 to begin building rich websites.
  14. There are various browser extensions you can use to get a screen grab of your website:Screengrab - FirefoxWebpage Screenshot - ChromeI say go with the Firefox one as you have various options on how to screenshot the website.
  15. Yes it will start when you reboot and of course it will start when you turn the machine on each time which is recommended. However, since it is a fast little program it shouldn't bother you all too much since the only way to turn it off would to be uninstalling it, but since it turns off a lot of the programs at boot it is a very small price to pay for a faster computer.
  16. Then could they be considered chaotic then? If your thinking in terms of mathematics then that maybe true, but outside the box then chaos is nothing but randomness. Granted there maybe a few exceptions such as comets and asteriods, however, throw in gravity and of course getting knocked off course by another object and that objects "destiny" is no longer determined. I will agree choas as a structure but trying to bring order ouy of chaos will no longer make it chaotic, it will just fall into one of many categories we will determine that person, place or thing it should be in.
  17. Well there was Windows ME and of course Windows Vista in which they were not user friendly and created more problems then there should have been. However, other factors came into play as to why Microsoft has dominated the Operating system business and that includes both hard and software support and the biggest one PC customization. User interface and user friendliness are big factor as well, but if Apple were to open up its OS like Microsoft has then it would be different story.
  18. Tabs are a superficial feature and since your concerned about how tabs should displayed is a bit silly then do not use the browser it is that simple. Also try changing your screen resolution and maybe you can fit in more tabs in which you can see the text better. I think Chrome is trying to play anti-hero in response to all the things you can do with Firefox and in a way make it a bloadted browser with all those extensions and features and what not. So Chrome went with a new direction and that being space, speed, and security, though the latter is usually the biggest priority for everyone involved in the browser business. However, I think the less is better angle seems to be a big thing since only Microsoft has switch to such a concept. Safari, Opera, and of course Firefox haven't gone with the minimalist theme, but odds are if you were to find a Firefox theme in their library then maybe its possible. Odds are though that Firefox won't try for a minimalist them until FF5. The acid tests are about rendering various scripts and code and if rendered correctly then its a happy face or 100/100 score. Go here to read more about it to get a better understand on what the Acid Tests are about. Well if your an XP user and do not plan on getting into the web design or web developing gig then that is fine. However, if your a **cough** Vista or Windows 7 user it is better to go with IE9 as it is more web standard then IE7 or 8. The same goes with being a web developer/designer because you need to be able to check your websites against browsers and make sure nothing looks out of place. Granted there are rendering websites and programs that can do it for you, but I prefer running it through the browser itself.
  19. Like anwiii said there are only a few reasons for a topic to be deleted and with your example, you can request to add something to your original posts but it wouldn't make much sense if other people have replied to it and so it just makes common sense to make another post to add any additional comments to your post and of course respond to other peoples posts. As for why users cannot delete their own posts and topics is the delete option is universal, meaning you be able to delete anyone's topics or posts either because you don't like what they have said or don't like the person in general. Again like anwiii already stated any topics or posts that are deleted the amount of Mycents earned in those posts will be removed as well and since there is a time limit on which you can edit your posts make sure it is what you want to say before hitting submit.
  20. I won't beat to death the antivirus software since it all depends what you want, but with other security measures you want to make sure OS is updated with the latest patches, your other software is up to date as well. The best way to do that is download and install File Hippo as it will let you know you the latest updates for all software you have running on your computer. As for security with the internet just be smart about it, do not visit questionable websites, make sure you know the person sending you the email or download, and of course just stay away from torrents as most of them are booby trapped with some sort of nasty program. Used 10-15 digit passwords, do not display any personal information that you don't want everyone to see, this is especially important for you Facebook users and other social networking websites that you might use.
  21. To step away from the math of chaos, if you to look at planets again they are neither perfect spheres nor are their poles straight up and down. Earth is angled at a 23 degrees, but the problem is you really can't tell regardless of how far away you are from the planet because of perception of that sphere says otherwise. Chaos does exist but there are many forms of it, chaos in the human genome, chaos in animal species, chaos in the universe they exist because not everything is predetermined. Yes there is beginning and and end, however, logic dictates that are known and unknown various that determine both the beginning and the end and thus you have your chaos.
  22. Then I would suggest you do a pop out window of some sorts and seperate it completely from your main layout.
  23. I would have to agree Microsoft took the best of the browsers and put it together in terms of speed, rendering and of course window space. I am bit surprise you didn't check out my topic about the acid tests, and of course HTML 5 test results as well because you be surprise how far behind IE9 is in rendering HTML 5. Which means Microsoft still has a lot of work to go in order to get that 100 in the Acid 3 test, and scary enough I think they need a year or two to get most of what HTML 5 has to offer in current generation browsers. As for picking itself out of the ashes is not going to happen, the damage has been done in those 5 years and of course with Microsoft reputation, I doubt they will see too many points in the one year after IE9 is released. However, I will say that a lot of the problems when it comes to web design will finally disappear since IE9 is on par to be web standard browser instead of them doing their own thing. Well, you could say it is a marketing ploy of Microsoft to get people to update to Windows 7 and sadly everyone should and as much as I enjoyed Windows XP and how easy it was to use, Windows 7 is just 100 times better and 1000 times better then Vista. As for websites not showing up correctly, bad coding practices are to blame for that and if coded properly then they might show up correctly. Well Windows 7 is to XP as Vista was to ME and since this browser was built for Windows 7 it should definitely hold its own. Granted I don't use it myself even though I give it much praise as a web designer, but as a computer user I want to see how secured it is before making such a commitment. However, I have never been a big fan of their add-ons, because quite frankly their selection sucks and that was another big reason why I switch to Firefox/Chrome. When it comes to Security I wouldn't even trust Microsoft best security experts and that was another major factor in why IE lost much of its points. As for the number of versions if you were to go through all the updates Firefox releases in the last few years, they released more browsers than anyone else. To get really anal about this, from FF3 to FF3.10, Mozilla release 40 new versions of FF3, granted they were all updates and patches, however, they were individual browsers because of the new version number that got attached to them. It just not good for new people it is good for everyone, but hopefully they revampted the browser security and maybe it will better for everyone.
