  1. Well thats the best part about this hardware is that most of it can accept vista, or rather the CPU, motherboard compatible. Since that is the hardware you will really need to be able to accept Vista, and also vista drivers won't be hard to find either if it does come down to needing to update the drivers to all the hardware.
  2. Its the same situation, just replace your motherboard and test and if it doesn't work replace the CPU as well, but this time check the power supply as well as you could have done some damage to it as well. Also I would recommend getting this book; its the same one I used for my computer hardware class and I plan to keep it for a long time and might buy future editions of it as well. CompTIA A+ Guide
  3. Well neither is the price tag for one of them either . since the pc isn't built for gaming I didn't really see the need to have one or a sound card either. As for everything else it is still to drool over, although if I really wanted to and if I had the cash I would most likely have gone all out on it ; quad core, 2-3 TB of hard drive space, 8 gigs of ram and even triple monitor the thing.
  4. So Hours finally posts, as I always wanted to comment on yours, in which I give it a nice 9/10 because of the flow, depth, and lighting, text is ok I would have drop that drop shadow though, but still I like the sig. ---RATE THIS SIG---
  5. Here is my latest, that I so happen to entering in SOTW #61, Went with another vector design, heck even the render is a vector then I went and downloaded from gamerenders. Plus I tried some coloring techniques from a few tutorials as well and so Enjoy.
  6. Well it is August now and that means the beaches will be closing, kids going to school, seniors getting ready to graduate in 2008, and of course everyone's favorite seasons fall and winter are upon us. So to give in that extra piece of warmth I bring you the beach theme.Sig size: 100x100 - 400x400Brushing Style: anyRender: Beach RelatedText: Related to the renderSpecial Effects: optionalEntries due August 18th.EDIT: changed the width limit
  7. This link should be able to help you out, but in a nutshell of that article replace the CD-ROM drive to fix that problem, since it most likely follows one of the problems that you might. However, before replace get an air clan and cleans out your pc, for all you know it could be pretty dirty and dusty in there, and then spray the inside of the CD-ROM drive. Then test it out and see if anything happens, if you still get the error then replace the drive with one you know that works (basically getting a brand new one).
  8. Have you updated the firmware for you router, usually if you do this, its fixes most common connection problems; thats what I did to get my router from crashing on me. Also make sure that Mac address on your main computer is clone on your routers admin panel since you need a primary computer to have stable connection. After rereading your post I would go with the firmware update since that was the problem I always had on the PC.
  9. After seeing this, I would think if all prisons across the world do this, they might be more enjoyable to be in and gang murders would be less or wouldn't happen as often, or something like that. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  10. Well I got two weeks left in the semester and on August 18th I will have built my first computer from scratch, now hopefully during the rest of the year I will have build up a series of topics on computer hardware and tutorials on building a computer from scratch that most of you will never have to buy a pre built system again . With that being said this is the final specs of the computer I will be building, after I had a fluke with my floppy drive (had the wrong one). Keyboard & Mouse Kensington 64365 Black USB Wired Slim Keyboard w/ Kensington Orbit Optical Trackball 64327 2-Tone 2 Buttons USB + PS/2 Wired TrackBall Orbit Optical Trackball Although I wouldn't mind getting that sweet LED keyboard the $1500 price tag is a bit to much, although I don't even know what the hell I was thinking when I order that mouse EEEW, I be replacing that with my USB wireless mouse, but I guess I can give it a trial run but the mouse was ugly back then and still is ugly right now. Tower COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-WW Black/Silver Aluminum Bezel, SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case As for the tower I was going to to stick with a budget and not spend the same amount of money I did on my Dell XPS notebook, and also I wanted to keep the design simple so if any problems came up over time I would need to spend hours taking it apart. Of course the question rises why I got the see through panel? Simple enough that I can keep an eye on the hardware a lot better, especially since I hand picked each piece myself. Floppy Drive Diablotek 1.44MB External USB Floppy Drive Now this was the mistake that happen, when I first got my floppy drive I didn't read the whole headline and the picture was misleading as it didn't look like a Desktop floppy, instead it was a notebook floppy ($20 down the drain). So after my classmate caught this, I spend my wee hours in the morning looking for one. So I decided I would go with a external floppy for the convenience; however, the next problem was that newegg (where I got most of the hardware) was out and so I spent my time looking for a halfway decent online hardware store, then when I found it I didn't like the fact I had to spend $30 dollars on something that was 10 cheaper on newegg, so I decided to check amazon (yeah not a good choice in buying hardware), and found it for a lot cheaper, so hopefully when it comes sometime next week that it works and I won't have any problems with it. Hard Drive #1 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording) ST3250620AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive When it came to the hard drive I really had to control myself or I would have found the biggest hard drive and got two of them, especially when it comes to Seagate hard drives. Easily enough I went with a combination of speed (7200 RPM), size (250 Gb), and price ($70). So its the best deal around especially since Seagate hard drives are getting cheaper by the months. Hard Drive #2 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular Recording) ST3500630AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive I installed this hard drive today, and for the most part it was quick and easy to set up as the motherboard and vista recognize it. Just had to spend about a good hour in order for the hard to be initialized, and able to be install programs in it as I had to pike around and find the right file permissions and stuff. I am a bit upset though that this hard drive lost 35Gb of space, didn't look into why do that another time, and of course had to buy a SATA cable since it didn't come with one. Other then those little annoyances it works good, can't wait to start moving stuff over on to the other hard drive to free up some space on the primary one. Processor & Motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 Allendale 2.0GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E4400 BIOSTAR G965 Micro 775(Vista) Micro ATX Intel Motherboard Now the processor and the motherboard were the hardest to figure out since well I am a noob , I could have gone with AMD and saved myself some cash, and of course try something that wasn't Intel. Nonetheless, I like Intel's hardware its just my preference and the price is worth it. Although I considered this another mistake since I didn't really think about that much then, the motherboard could have ruin my building this computer, but again after spending weeks reading and asking questions my motherboard is going to do nicely for what I am building. DVD/CD-ROM Drive LITE-ON Black IDE DVD-ROM Drive Model LH-16D1P-185 Need to install software and all that good stuff, nothing really impressive, I don't burn either so the RW+ RW- wasn't really necessary, although I got a few bays to install one in the future. RAM A-DATA 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model ADQVE1A16K With the RAM I knew right off the bat I was going for 2 gigs since I am going to be running vista on this system, however in order for RAM to work properly it has to be compatible with the motherboard and if you look at both you can tell that DD2 800 was what made them compatible. Plus the price was right too. Monitor Hanns·G JW-199DPB Black 19" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor I knew right off the bat monitors were going to be the most expensive hardware in this build, plus I wanted to try something a little bigger, especially since this computer is going to my parents to replace the Dell they have right and it's hard to read the small print sometime. However, the reason I picked this monitor was that it is vista compatible as well so 2 cool points for that. Power Supply APEVIA ATX-CW500WP4 ATX 500W Power Supply Now the power supply this was a bit of a challange and I might have some compatibility issues with it, but I think it will be figured out when I put it together. The reason I say this is that it's a ATX power supply and my motherboard is micro-atx, although they are from the same line of form factor (ATX), getting the right amount of electricity without frying the motherboard and other hardware. Now usually depending on the build 500-600 watt power supply is usually normal for standard computers, but if you got a high end gaming system expect the power supplies to be in the 700-850 watt range. So with the build I got 500 should be plenty. So that is my build and I will post pics of it when it is complete for you all to drool over Graphics Card XFX PVT84JUDD3 GeForce 8600GT XXX 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card Installed easily, boosted up my Vista rating from 3.8 to 4.8. Interestingly enough I didn't have to mess with my bios to get this card to work, even though they recommend I turn off my onboard graphics, which I don't have an I was in VGA mode, or I didn't have onboard graphics. I even got a free game out of it, haven't installed it but might later. However, I did have a few problems though the fan is pretty loud, and even when I put my case back together the fan was loud. Wasn't to keen on the fact I had to hook my monitor through an adapter to get this going. So everything works like it should, and so I have to wait to see if it was worth the price tag.
  11. Well I knew about these ahead of time but I didn't say anything, but I have say those are the most twisted sigs I have ever seen, makes mine look lame . I can't wait for the next group of sigs you produce to see what idea's you come up with.
  12. I will admit that I have a small dose of PTSD, usually it lasts a few days or sometimes a couple of weeks, if people here remember my long absences that I take from trap that is usually when I am in that mood. I usually let it runs its course and then I come back into perky old self. Of course the worse part about War PTSD, is that trying to talk to someone who wasn't there you feel as though they can't help you, however, I am not going to pay $2-300 to let some therapist tell me it will be ok, most of time it isn't. Even though I wasn't in the front lines, there were enough tragic events that I participated in to get my PTSD, but lucky for me though I don't have to go through the mind torture that the infantry, tankers, and even the drivers go through when they comeback. Although the suicide rate for soldiers coming back from tours in Iraq and Afghanistan is low, the ugly side comes out of soldiers when the pressure finally pops. The best example for that was that group of soldiers who killed that family, are paying for it by spending the rest of their lives in prison, and thats the thing with war it isn't supposed to be pretty but what can you do when evil people want power and control.
  13. Well it seems the Storm Worm has become a rather nasty customer recently, the worm has created a botnet of almost 2 million computers and almost 500 million emails that connect to the worm have been tracked. However, what's got the security people are worried about is the possibility of a large scale DOS attack, and from they mention since there are enough computers a small country's computer network could get shutdown. So far or small DOS attacks have been associated with this worm, so far the only suggestions that have come up is make sure your expecting emails with attachments and all that good stuff, block P2P networking since it seems do it's best damage(infection) that way. So I would say to the members here to be extra precaution in your activities concerning all that fun stuff . SOURCE Here
  14. Well they did mention that this wasn't a big deal worm, but sometimes they do become a big deal its just a matter of doing the right trick to make it worse. I would have to agree that it would be an odd virus to write if not associated with the music industry at all, but like the article said this virus is doing the music industry a favor, of course if these guys were really smart they would have tried at tag all the torrent sites and really cripple the music downloading.
  15. I can see your website with no problems I would suggest pinging your website and see if you get a 100% packet loss that means your ISP is not accepting the site for some reason, and also try going through a proxy site and see if it shows up there, if it does then it's your ISP thati s causing the problem. Also there have been no reported downtimes that I am aware of in the last few weeks as the servers have been pretty stable especially during the heats waves in the U.S.
  16. First of all welcome to the site and rest assured your forum hosting will be in good hands here at Xisto.com. Interestingly enough we do have a forum section in which you can give your thumbs up or thumbs down about website that provide services such as the one you mention, and so if you want to you can give them a bad review to let other members know about these websites that like to treat people badly. Although it isn't a big thing here on the forums I do believe we have a few members who are actual wiccans, I can't think of any names but I believe they will mention something. All that is really required here is post to host and when you get your hosting, you keep on posting to keep your hosting credits up; Xisto Read Me covers everything and anything you need to about hosting here on Xisto.com Should be interesting what kind of topics you bring here on the forums as so to get curious minds a thinking about the wiccan life.

    Hi

Hey hey, welcome to Xisto.com the best place for some fine hosting and posting anywhere on the net. I was about to point you to the Xisto Read me file, but tiki beat me to it . Well I guess all I have to say is follow the rules of the forum and you will have a good time here on Xisto and other Xisto network websites.
  18. Welcome to Xisto, and most of what I have to say as been mention already by the previous posters. We are always looking for more people to display their graphics talents, especially in our SOTW competitions. So enjoy your time here, and your posting and maybe even some hosting.
  19. Actually the first time C shows up is in octillion and yes I did look it up and this website list all the groups of numbers starting at thousand and talking about googleplex. Again though it's amazing about what complex patterns people can find from something simple as numbers and time.
  20. Well the last time I made this topic it was for web designer extensions that can be used, this topic will cover various extensions, such as security and privacy, web data and more. Cooliris Previews The first extension I will talk about is Cooliris Previews, which is an extension in which a user just has to hover over a link and then a blue square appears, then all you have to do is hover over that blue square and the link opens up into a min browser and shows the contents. Now being a long time trap user I have clicked on so many topics that my hands hurt, and use the create a new tab function to up the topic, and with this extension it could make peoples posting here more enjoyable as they can see what the topic is about without the necessary clicking. Of course lets not forget the mods and the report center function they can go through these reports a lot quicker then ever before. I would say give this a test run to see what you think about it and when you try it out for the first time you will be hooked. You can find the properties menu though hte window that it creates (it looks like a wrench). Firefox Version All versions Link http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ FEBE(Firefox Environment Backup Extension) The next extension that I have come across and never really thought about is this one, this extension literally makes a back up of your firefox, including passwords, extensions, profiles and more. That way if you ever have a computer crash and have to reinstall everything, your firefox browser will restored just like that. Of course you have to make sure you put your back up on a flash drive or a External Hard Drive so you can easily access it and restore your firefox without the need to spend hours reinstalling everything from your browser. The only one downside to this if you can even call it that, depending on how hooked up you have firefox it could take awhile for the backup to be completed and of course hundreds of files that it produces; nonetheless, it is the same thing as doing a system restore as well, either way it will take time depending how much you have installed on to the browser. However, its the convenience of this extension that will save you the time needed to reinstall everything. You can find it in your tools menu. Firefox Version 2.x.x versions Link https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/febe/ LinkCounter Well this extension is more of a web developers tool as it will count all the links on that website page, for instance Xisto.com has 549 links on the index page. Now when you click on the link counter it highlights all the links that fall under the following categories empty, files, targets, anchors, feeds, javascripts, mails, 'xfiles', internal and external. Then of course just right click the link counter to bring up it's menu and change it to suit your needs. The link counter gets installed on the footer of the browser on the right side. Firefox Version All Current Versions Link http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Forum Fixer I would say that this extension is only useful to the 56K users since it removes all images on a particular site, and it is common knowledge some of our users here on trap still use it. All you simple do is right click on a image then select Block Images from (website name). Then a tool bar will show up top in which you can undo the changes or close that tool bar or just right click on the image location and the re-select Block Images from (website name) and the images will show up. Another catch is that this is for forums only and not the websites, so again if your a 56k forum user this will give you addition loading speed of that forum. Firefox Version 1.x-2.x.x Link https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/forum-fixer/ Tab Effect If you want to add some spice to your browser when selecting tabs, this is the one; it is like some versions of Linux OS when you install Compiz or Beryl, in which the desktop rotates from left to right or right to left. Same concept here with the tabs, and so far I cannot find a menu for this to customize it or disable it without the need to uninstall it. Firefox Version 1.5.x-2.x.x Link https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-effect/ Well thats it for the latest firefox extensions that I found and would look good, so if you do try them out make sure to post your thoughts about them.
  21. Well now it seems I am a bringer of good news for everyone these days when it comes to security news, in this case WIFI users be warned that if you don't have secure WIFI connection, uptodate firewall and all that good stuff. You could your personal information compromised; hackers and crackers can use the right tools and in this case a tool called a packet sniffer, which picks up data transferred between a wireless router and a computer, a person can turn those cookies into login info and then go to work on your accounts. The propose solution to keep yourself and your information protected, "users should never use a Wi-Fi hotspot unless they are using VPN (virtual private networking) or SSL (secure sockets layer) to access their accounts." After checking my router to see if I have some sort of VPN protection and yes I do. So if you have a router that is used for your wifi connection check to make sure you have a VPN option somewhere, and also if you plan to use your computer out in the open use precaution I guess. SOURCE Here
  22. I found this to be a very interesting security news story and a very interesting worm, due to the fact it only goes after MP3 files, which is the file type use to compress music into small files. Anyways security expert claim this to be a low level threat, however, even a computer noob that a low level worm, virus, or trojan can become a high level threat just like that. Of course the way this worm gets passed around is even more interesting, it uses flash drives to set up the infection and then kicks in when auto run kicks in when you play a cd or anything that uses the auto run feature. Even more interesting this is not the first time that this attack has happen, 2 years ago Nopir-B worm did then and then last year a trojan program called Erazer did the same thing. As for infections every windows OS can be infected so if you head over to this link, the Nortan Boys tells you want to look for and then what to do to remove it so those who have a few thousand sound files that you have store won't get deleted. SOURCE Here
  23. Everything except JSP, ASP, TOMCAT can be used, so you can go nuts with html, xhtml, CSS, dhtml, CGI, PHP. Of course you can request JSP but you will have to give a real good reason, and since the hosting accounts are on a apache server you cannot run windows programming languages, such as ASP and .Net Framework.
  24. When I saw this picture, I thought to myself why did I get out of cutting renders again, then I answer oh yeah it takes a long time to find a good one.
