  1. thanks, FouGilang...i feel at home already what you need is something that makes karma/reputation system integrate with like/dislike posts mod? Its would be a nice idea and a hack can't be that difficult if both mods exist. which smf version are you using by the way?
  2. I personally think it would be a great idea and seeing how many people have got problems and all, you might want to leave a real message to those you'll be leaving behind. It would make a lot of sense, rather than writing a will, you can be seen actually saying it and people can check how emotional you were about who should inherit your riches! lol its kinda weird but i had an uncle who wrote a will and the property left behind caused more bad than good when it was revealed he had been drugged just before writing it! with video footage, this would be clear lol!
  3. hi guys!so yes, i joined a couple of days ago alright, just had missed this section. lolzanyway i like to call myself legend112..im male-20, im into web designing, learnt php mysql by myself a couple of months ago and now im part of a good team creating software for SMF. yay!Im here for web hosting and a tld domain as im creating a brand new site, i have run a few but things haven't worked out, but as they say, winners never quit and quitters never win :)I hope to all the nice characters here and if you have a site you're creating esp. smf forums and you need a quick hack or something, get in touch i'll be glad to take a look and see if i can be of any help.Laters, nice to meet ya!
  4. i was desperate? not at all. of course i am here to get hosting as well and got enough money now to get on a plan but if i find an opportunity to get advice on issues that are troubling me, i shouldn't?? I am surprised you really said that you know. why do you think so low of other people? there are a hundred ways of starting hundreds of threads with unoriginal content but i'm sharing a personal story and being called desperate for points? whatever, you can think what you want but i would never come to such a conclusion about anyone. i know it isn't healthy,i was very busy and couldn't hang out that much. i hooked up with some girls but wasn't that much pleased, there's just something different about the women here as compared to those from my home country. I am not antisocial, i just enjoy to keep to myself since people my age are into what stuff that i consider bad, like alcohol and drugs so i'd rather have it my way and live in my own small world Thanks a lot. "Good friends are not easy to find" thats true and i'll see where the road leads us.
  5. my honest opinion is that this is a step-up. i will not be using other characters for my domains since im stuck with english but if for some reason i do something targeted for example at china, i'd have to get a domain in mandarin...i see nothing wrong one thing i know is that the system which was there was not very friendly to everyone, imagine if you grew up speaking english but for your domain you had to struggle to come up with a name in french or something. your target audience might not even realise what your site is about since they don't understand French! i thank the person who suggested this, the internet is growing and that makes me happy...information is becoming available to everyone in a very friendly way
  6. so i guess its fair to say Google Analytics is the best free solution out there although i've heard not much support for other analytic programs
  7. i totally agree, i once hosted my site with Xisto - Web Hosting long back and never had any problems. i was quite amazed. the only issues i had back then had a lot to do with MyCents being negative at times but they would rectify the problem in no time. I'm working on getting a top level domain too and will tell you guys once its out. I hope to send my application form sometime before saturday, that would give me ample time to continue developing the site... long live trap 17!
  8. thanks a lot baniboy..man your sig got me laughing real bad!!! i appreciate your advice anyways, i dumped her roughly yes, i had received a bad reply from somwehere i had applied. im usually not a moody guy though you didnt really get me here. i clearly stated im not into sex at all. when it comes to something that can compromise my education, i never take a sec to make up my mind...its a NO! i dont have any intentions of being involved with her like that, or any other girl at the moment. moving on, i just didn't say about the country i live in to remain anonymous. i really doubt i can be prosecuted for being in love with her if it gets to that and we don't have sex. i just aint sure about kissing and all. if im to be honest, i've become quite attached to her.. as for waiting for 3 more years, thats a tall-order, i'd rather just forget and move on.
  9. nice! @thedisturbedone i've really come to like your posts man you're so helpful anyways, i am currently planning on running a new forum and have downloaded smf2 rc2 thats got curve now but didn't really like the idea. smf2 is a real step up and i've written some mods for it, but i've decided to use smf1.1.10! do you guys think its wise? I want a site with many mods to make it a bit unique since im going to work my *bottom* off on customising, smf2 doesn't seem to suit my needs. not many mods have been designed or updated for it that's why i've made that decision. as for making or customising themes, thats just not my forte gents and i don't have money for premium themes. i hate downloading and using em without buying so i've decided to find the best available and see what i can do about it. Wish me luck...
  10. hi guys, my story is that i moved to this other country late last year and didn't have a girlfriend for some time. i found the chicks here just weird and i usually spend most of my time coding and locked indoors. the thing is this; one day as i was doing some shopping i came across an angel of a girl. she looked so pretty and had such a glow about her, at that point i knew i wanted her.the only problem was that she had a home (who caught me ogling her by the way) so i decided to relax. I was disappointed though. then after a couple of weeks i met her again with one of her friends and was so overjoyed at the sight and decided i wasn't going to let it slip. i pulled a very swift move and got us talking.. she refused to give me her phone number and decided to take mine..and i just thought to myself i had blew it somewhere. surprisingly when I got home she called and things started moving pretty well. we hung out and when i'm with her i feel like i can fly, the feeling is mutual...i think...shes usually so happy too. however after getting a bit close, she dropped a bombshell on me when i enquired about her age. i hadn't bothered coz she seemed and acted mature. im 20 btw and lets just say she's 5 years younger than me! i was shocked and really hurt at the discovery. i then told her to leave me alone and do whatever with boys her age and focus on books but after some weeks, i felt empty inside and guilty coz of the way i told her off. we then reconciled now she comes to my house often and we just talk without much physical touch..although she's supersexy, i've been able to hold back. now the problem is that i cant do anything when i'm with her. sex has never been an option with her since i'm not into that (believe it or not...im kinda focused on my studies)...i am wondering what you guys could advise me to do. should i date her when she's that young and without having sex could i be in trouble with the statutory rape law still? [i think shes gorgeous btw but i will do whats right]
  11. oh geez windows 7 is also not stable?!! lol! honestly im not surprised, microsoft has a way of dishing out software they aint finished creating then smash bugs after making sales, which suck as i feel its more like cheating the customer. try not to run so many programs mate. how much is your ram? before i slam microsoft like im known to do (lol) it might be your ram actually, the specs of your pc might have a lot to do with your computer freezing.
  12. i am currently using a sony vaioa but i dont like the resolution that much. its kinda dark and i like bright but performance-wise and durability its cool and i have dropped a couple of time but its still intact. however the battery is now bust so i wouldn't advise you to get a sony, try apple if you can...its best imo

    My Intro

wow, that nice to hear, i wish i could be you man:) I am an aspiring entrepreneur-web developer and most of my ventures have failed...don't really have any successes to talk about! But i am still pushing, success comes to those who persist man. Talking about motivation do you listen to any speakers? I have a long list people who can really help you. Would want us to keep in touch, just PM me if you're interested in us linking up Cheers, and good luck.
  14. i can see you have made some really remarkable changes!!i like the banner and who customised smf for you? it looks really nice and if i was a fan i'd join up but im not :)im glad to hear your seo efforts are paying off, i which you all the best man.
  15. that must be the sickest joke i have ever heard...its so gross whoever shut it down, did the right thing. i hope some sites with perverted content like that would just be closed off, they do no good and only promote ill thoughts and actions, yak!
  16. that is not entirely true that firefox is not good with css and design. its actually false. I have worked in web design for a number of years and firefox is the best browser out there i'll tell you. Different browsers do interpret differently and firefox has been on par with accepted web standards for long. internet explorer is only getting to embrace the standards now and seems to be getting better but ff is miles ahead. i don not know what version of firefox is giving you such headaches but check for the latest one and make sure your code is first validated before putting all the blame of firefox. matter of fact even if your code has errors, firefox is more likely to point em out and adjust so that the page is displayed just as you want it. for easy editing, please look for firebug extension for ff which enables you to make changes on the fly and saves a lot of time when designing a site. cheers
  17. geez i didn't know googleads sucks like that. i'd be happy with US$30 per month though, since most of my sites i've run from my now pocket and never earned a cent. most have closed down so any cent i'd thank God I am working on one i hope will be better since its not a common subject i'll be focusing on, i hope to earn some money from ads, etc. so whick one is more effective, i've never tried adsense nor kontera. ??
  18. wow, i am really happy to hear that! you'll never believe what these kids of today are doing man! its just amazing how the web seems to be run by teens now, except for the real old guys who kinda invented it! lol i mean look at gaming, the industry is now full of kids and i used to have a mentality that nobody younger could be better than me at anything...not really anything but most things.. that was before i joined this other programming venture on the web. on the team we have 14, 16, 18 year olds who know php more than their native-language! i was so shocked, i still don't have any words for it! your story is even more remarkable since he isn't around tech stuff and all so he really is in a league of his own. i think some of these things are innate you know. you are just born with it.
  19. I think i would be a tiger.I am not much of an animal lover or admirer, just grow up supporting our rugby school team: The Tigers. so choosing an other animal would be betrayal
  20. i beg to differ, for a real newbie..it is a necessity you can skip it but you'll be running the risk of wasting time on something that somebody would have told you to change long back. reviews do save time man. After creating a site, if not reviewed by lots of people who you wish to target, you might get lots of traffic but no returns...so reviews will put you in a safe bracket early on and thus, are a way for one to improve their site
  21. yes...people who pull others down really have deep personal problems. And i will tell you one thing, its even more crazy if someone close to you discourages you. I have had people i thought would try to lift my spirits or at least try to hear my ideas out close the door in my face. i felt so dejected and down. This used to happen when I was little so i got really arrogant with my ideas and wouldn't share with anybody my expriences or thoughts because people never say positive things. If somebody pulls you down, you should try as much as possible to pretend it didn't happen especially if you had a hunch you're onto something....trusting your intuition is never wrong. Its sad the world of full of such people...another things funny is that people who judge, only chip in with comments when they find something negative to say. lol
  22. Newsletters When i created my first site, i tried to make use of them but failed miserably. I think one thing that has to be said here is that for them to work, you need a very catchy layout and you have to make the newsletter interesting by including images and info on new promotions, etc. You have to give people reason to click on a link in that newsletter, and people will only do that if they want to be a part of something great happening at your site. Design Believe me, most sites die because of design. Its one thing to have a million visitors and another to have many return visits. a good design should stick in people's minds and its one of the things that bring uniqueness to a site. In summary, your design has to be relevant to your main focus, and you have to keep it simple. SEO I'm surprised people haven't talked about this that much...search engine optimization will account for +60% of your sites success. whether you are going to use money or not to fine-tune your seo in order to appear on search pages, your site has got to have a lot of content...and it has to have a good keyword density too. I would advise newbies to focus much on optimizing for Google as the others Yahoo, Bing, etc have less market share, therefore get way less searches. If you got money to spend, getting seo people to sort it for you is not a bad idea or buying space on google or some other sites. Affiliates With a new site, you have to realise you cannot live alone. Word has to get out that your site is there so you need affiliates. you need to be part of a network of sites that more or less focus on your primary goals. you need link exchanges, one thing i do: i make sure i submit my site to at least one directory every day and also get at least two affiliates every week. if you keep at it, your site will get more and more traffic. Reviews you need to know whats right and wrong about your site even after doing everything under the sun. you have to submit your site for reviews a couple of times so that you get varied opinions and can make an informed decision in the end if you really should change anything... good luck to all newbies....may your site be successful
  23. funny but i really dont have one! lol!i guess its because i am not into cars, i think any would do, if i get the one Lewis Hamiltons drives, i'd be happy, assuming F1 cars are allowed on the streets
  24. you are right. i remember in junior high how i almost studied sciences before i discovered i have a passion for the web and programming. The thing is most people align themselves with wrong studies from an early age because they can't judge for themselves. As for me now, i haven't started uni and my brother was insisting i do accounting because accountants have got money blah blah blah but this time i said no to that crap....i will do what i wish and really, i can work for free just programming because its a passion that i have. i have meet too many people who dread to go for class or work and i don't want to be stuck as well. I wouldn't blame the routines and all, just poor career guidance.
  25. alright, now i get your drift you folks! i wish you luck in creating your own forum software. its a nice challenge and if its innovative, you'll have a large following. what group are you guys talking about, maybe i could join as well and see if i can help out in anyway, got too much free time Good luck gents and update us on the progress. if this group has newbies and intermediate guys, i really want to sign up
