  1. Hi mahesh2k,I tried all the possibilities for transparent notepad in windows including windows shell enhancement softwares, in those the whole Notepad will be transparent including Text and controls. So that would easily strain our eyes and we would soon loose interest in it.I found one more notepad called Glass Notepad, in that Semitransparency is only working in Aero theme of Vista and Win7 while stnotepad works even in Windows 2000. But still its backgroud will be blurred we cannot type the background's text.New version of StNotepad has more new features other than transparent, it has Word Count, Mulitple Undo/Redo, File Content Modification Notification, Text Drag and Drop, Enhanced User Interface Settings like new themes and custom themes and more. And the future releases with other new features can be used without extra costs.I have seen many people who need a software to type text's of a scanned document (Data entry, BPO) easily, for those kind of people and those who are fascinated by new things, I think $10 is not a big amount and they can easily afford it.
  2. Just to give you all an update about this issue. The emails from the gamma server are not being considered spam anymore. They all arrive in inbox now.
  3. StNotepad is a semitransparent version of notepad. It has a semitransparent text area, while the text on it and controls remains opaque. Useful to type text from an image present behind. The application was developed in .Net language. Please do check it out and post your reviews or comments. Requires dot net framework 2 to run it. More features would be added soon. You can download StNotepad from here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The application displays the features offered by the Semitransparent Form for .net, using which such applications with transparency with opaque controls can be developed. It has lots of options to adjust the UI of the application, like opacity, corner radius (of controls), always on top feature, lots of styles for background and control box.
  4. As far as I know, you have to compulsorily pay the setup cost if you are going for monthly payment. There is no option for paying or not paying the setup fee for monthly payment package.
  5. Hello,I am learning Python. I tested some basic codes like hello world code on PC with Python 2.6 installed. I was thinking if the hosting supports Python. I have the Logic Plan ($1.95+SSH access). Is python supported on this plan?I am a bit confused. There seem to be many Python interpreters available like cgi, fast cgi, wxpython and mod_python. I don't how to execute code for other interpreters. I searched for some info on running Python code on server. One of them told to copy the .py files to cgi-bin folder. I tried executing a simple hello world script with .py extension, no luck gave 500 internal server error. I checked MIME types, py was not defined there. It had only cgi, so I renamed it to .cgi but still it shows "500 INternal Server Error". I also gave it 755 permission with no luck. What am I doing wrong?I tried what I could, but then I need to ask the first question again "Is Python supported in Logic Package"? Thanks in advance.
  6. Yeah, the Nokia N97 has 32 Gb inbuilt + 16 GB expandable memory. Programming the cellphones to ones likes is something most of us would want to do. Call recording applications does exist, but I havent seen them on popular brands.
  7. annum means yearly/per year. Anyway domains are bought for a minimum period of 1 year.$40 dollars for a domain. May be they are country level domains like .uk, .us etcThe popular domains like .com, .net, .org all come for around 10$ in the world wide web market. So sure go ahead and get yourself a domain. Good luck.
  8. Yes, you can get a domain using MyCents. It would cost around $11+ per annum including taxes.
  9. Thanks for the link.Well, I must say that was really weird. It looks as if the skin has been peeled off. Upon looking the videos I got knew that the creature is very small, may be just born baby. Well talking about alien connection, I don't think so, it has all the characteristics of animals on earth, so it must be surely some animal, may be a young monkey trapped into that brown thing or whatever it is called.
  10. ^^ If you don't like the chrome theme for Google Chrome itself, but like the browser, then you can try the Firefox theme for Google Chrome.
  11. As in downloading files, multi part downloading greatly increases the speed (utilizes the full available speed) and maintains multiple connections with the file. Similarly, you can try video downloading accelerators. Try the free version of Speedbit Video Accelerator and observe if there is any difference in the buffering speed. That software downloads as multi part from multiple connections to the video you are watching. Let us know if that helped.
  12. Well, you seem to have mistaken a bit. Search engines are not built into browsers. Basically, when you enter search terms in the search bar of the browser, the default search engine website (google/msn,yahoo) is used. So the ads you mentioned were probably from the search engine website and not the browser. So, all the three browsers you mentioned are ad free, Firefox has lots of plugins to aid and Google chrome is a very fast browser. Although, the latest version of Firefox 3.5 is a lot faster than previous versions, but still if you want speed with minimum functionality of a browser, go with Google Chrome.
  13. A bit off topic...I don't know about Ready Boost. I have only used Windows XP. I had a separate partition for temporary files and for the pagefile. This way disk fragmentation can be reduced. I also searched for a solution to move hiberfil.sys to another partition, but unfortunately it can't be done. Also to note, while changing the virtual memory settings, it is advisable to leave at least 2 Mb in the root partition (the partition the OS is installed). In case of system crashes, system can create log file in the root partition.
  14. Interesting, any source links for the online newspaper? Any photographs of it online? I tried searching for any info on what you mentioned, but in vain.
  15. Yes, it works just like any of the gmail contacts chat. Also all other email clients (Pidgin, Digsby, etc) which support gmail chats. I have heard that it even works with messenger, although I have not seen one doing or myself doing it. I will let you know as I get more information about it. As I told before, here is the way to set up the bot on a web server. However there are some prerequisites. The server must have Python installed and you should have shell access to be able to run the script. After logging in with SSH/Telnet you can use: nohup python confbot.py & command to run it. Thanks to jjgod for telling that command. "nohup" (No Hangup) is the important command to be noted here. It basically keeps running the script even after you log out of the shell. And that is what we want to do, running the bot all the time.
  16. Changing the whole icons of the system manually will take a long time. Also, its not easy to manage or track the icons which were manually modified. There are many programs as given above. I have another one to add which is a dedicated program for icons. The name of the program is iColorFolder. Download from http://icolorfolder.sourceforge.net/. The program takes no resources as it doesn't run always, it just loads the icons and closes the program. It has more features, you can right click any folder and assign a color label to the folder. The additional skins pack on the website will be more than enough to keep you happy for many days. And did I mention that its free and open source. The program is no longer maintained, but well it has all the features it should have, no? If you know programming dive into the code and do whatever you want.
  17. Nice review, as always.I played this game years ago. I did finish the single player missions. Once we get the hang of the game, the rest of the game is just about tactics and appropriate placement of the fellow mates on the map. Its more like single player mission, becuase most of the time I would be controlling only one soldier, in a map. The AI is pretty bad, so I had to manually transport the soldiers across the map, especially when deep inside the territory.By the way, we can control 4 soldiers and not 3, in a map. On a particular campaign, we can have upto 16 soldiers (not sure). Yes, there are many weapons in the game. Unlike in Hitman where we get to have only one main weapon, we can have lots of weapons in this game. I liked the different attributes like strength, vitality, reaction etc for the soldiers. The game is rather difficult, the poor AI of the team mates triples the difficultyActually I didn't buy this game, it was given free with a technology magazine DVD. It also had a map editor for making custom maps. That is, we can create our own maps in 3d graphic programs like 3ds Max. Overall a nice game for a different gaming experience.
  18. I use digsby on Windows and Pidgin which comes preinstalled in Ubuntu. I don't use many of the features of IM softwares. I basically use it for sending Instant messages only. Also I have many accounts, each created for specific purpose. So, I like the feature of being able to use multiple accounts on a single software like Digsby and Pidgin. Also, I use Skype for audio calling and sometimes screen sharing with others.
  19. You have to pay for the sms you send. If you are trying out on your own, you need a mobile phone with some hardware. You cannot send for free this way. Your balance in the mobile is charged for every message you send. So if your provider gives free sms to send, then you can do so. One of my friends has set up such a system where in he connects his mobile to some hardware which in turn is connected to PC. So, he can send and recieve messages through PC. He uses it for sending bulk messages. If you are interested in doing so, I can ask him more information about it and how to go about setting up one. Let me know. Update: I asked him about this, you basically need to connect your Phone to PC and use a software to take control of the mobile to send messages. There are many software to send messages through PC, like this one. Is this a solution to your needs? I think you want it some other way. He also told about SMS gateway to send through web. May be you can browse the web to get more info on how to go about it.
  20. Well you see, you get to experience some high end graphics in there, so it does take some space... nope me too have no idea why it takes so much space, and that too of the free version, with basic features.Anyway it is a great move. Giving something for free and also a paid Pro version for more features. I suppose the basic features are more than enough for an average user with some essential features like Rewritable CD erasing, Image file burning, etc.Not many of us use CDs/DVD's these days, at least I don't. I mainly use portable Hard Disk for transferring files, but yes for permanent backups, writing to discs is the best option. So giving away the free version might boost the usage of Nero software.
  21. Well, now as you have come to this host, you can happily host your site. This host has been up since 2004 and has since been offering free hosting. That alone should tell the quality and assurance that this is not yet another hit and run free hosting site. And you wont see any types of ads in the hosting, not even in the 404 error page, you can even create your own one. You get all the controls you would need and features of a paid hosting. Hope to see more of your posts in the forums. And make sure you read all the rules. Good luck.
  22. The demo siteis accessible now. The ad is fine, not too big, some sites out a bug abnner itself. And moreover the image ad appears in the bottom of the page, so its not that distracting anyway. By the way the title of the thread and in the website is a bit misleading. It might have been Text Image ad at bottom instead of text ad at bottom. I see that libraries like GD and functions like mail() or sendmail are disabled. So the hostinf is very much limited. But since there is MySQL database, its the perfect hosting to test databse things. And moreover there is no need to post or anything like that. So its great for a freat start in web development.Edit: Sorry for the typos, I am unable to edit them. May be some problem with my browser.
  23. I am not sure about this, but it seems your ISP is blocking the port 80. You can chek if it is blocked by going to this site and entering 80 in the port field. By the way the password it is asking for is the routers password. If the port 80 is blocked you can change the port number in 80 to some other in apache. I am just telling what I assume, wait for someone to answer it corectly or google search for more information about this. Edit: The site to check if port is blocked or not: http://www.seemyport.com/rg-erdr.php?_rpo=t
  24. I have been using Windows XP. It can get any of the work done with minimum hassles. Very stable, doesn't tax much on the system. Other than these thing its the little tweaks which I have applied all these years which makes this OS great. A bare bone XP installation isn't that great until you tweak it to your likings. Many people have released such nifty tools and edits that I have always wondered why doesnt these tweaks come as default in the installation itself. Now, I have two OS installed, the old XP which I have been using since many years, and now recently installed Ubuntu OS. The very first thing which atracted me in Ubuntu is the fonts, I am not sure many of you may even disagree with that. But I really liked the fonts and the overall appearance. Then I started trying with some basic things and tried Compiz effects which are just awesome. It is most amazing effects I have ever seen, and I didnt understand all the hype about Aero effects on windows when somthing like Compiz existed in Linux. Now having such a thing on windows would cost $$ as in M$. But I think there does exist one for free, made in .Net, I dont remember the name, anyway doesnt match with that of Compiz. The next thing I saw in Ubuntu is the user friendliness. All the hard tweaks done manually in XP pre-exist in Ubuntu. And then as I started seeking help, I found the Ubuntu forums to be an excellent resource for all the problems. Almost all the problems or troubleshooting issues on almost any type of hardware has already been discussed and solved.Installing programs in Ubuntu is a breeze because of all-in-one mangament system for installation, updates and OS upgrades. Consider that with Windows, where all these things are cluttered around with each one acting in its own way. I dont think such a central management system as in Ubuntu would be possible on windows unless Windows goes opensource. So thats all I have to say about the Operating systems I use. I still use Windows XP, but slowly picking up with Ubuntu.
