There are some exciting new entrants lined up to enter the smart phones world. Each bragging there features unheard of before. So here I present all those top smart phones due to be released this year. Pick your choice. It doesn't matter if you don't want to, just think you had money and had to buy any one from these, then which one would you go for? To help ease that a bit, I have described all the features for you. So start picking the choice. I will try to keep the reviews as unbiased as possible. 1) Nokia N97: Nokia is the supreme player in the multimedia category. Nokia 95 has been the flagship product of the brand for ages now (yes, ages we are living web world) and still remains difficult to beat. This is feature packed beast. With the type of hardware thrown in, its absolutely mind boggling. The first thing you would see as is common in these days is the mammoth 3.5 inches (360 x 640 pixels), the resistive touchscreen has a proximity sensor, accelerometer, hand writing recognition.Want to watch movies just pull in those 3.5 mm headphones and you're on your way to thumping experience. You can slide the screen up to uncover the full blown QWERTY keypad beneath it. It is a miniature version of latptop. Large spacious keys and a vwide screen to poerate the symbian S60 5th edition OS: the built in POcket office suite now makes sense! The main highlight of the phone lies beneath. The N97 rocks a 5 Mega pixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, that bring you autofocus, LED Flash and a video light for night-time footage. The 2592 x 1944 pixel images are great, but the 30 FPS dvd quality smooth recording simply rocks. And yes there is a seondary camera in the front too for video calling. Under the hood, is the ARM 11 434 MHz processor and 128 MB RAM which makes the phone run like a breeze. But still there is the thing which you need to brace up for, the 32 GB built-in memory + additional 16 GB microSD card to brag a total of 48 GB on a smartphone! Carry all you music collection and still have space to use. Added to this are the usual things like 3D, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP, stereo FM radio, GPS (with Nokia Maps 2.0), voice command, TV-out, and support for any audio video format you throw at it. And it comes preinstalled with Adobe Flash Lite 3 plug-in, yep you assumed it right, online videos. Feeding all these beasts is the N97's 1500 mAh humble battery. Which can play music for 40 hours, andtalk time of nine and a half hours. Retail price around US $ 700. 2) Sony Ericsson IDOU: Wanna go for camera shopping? No IDOU's not the new changed model name of a camera, its the smartphone featuring 12.1 Megapixel camera! Helping it is a powerful xenon flash and LED flashlight for night time video shoots. With auto focus, geo-tagging, face detection, smile shutter, image stabilization... optical zooms out of the list though. But wait we are talking about a phone, so lets compare them with phones rather than cameras. And the as usual 3.5 inch defacto screen with 360 x 640 pixels. Whats the OS based on? Symbian. And then host off usual technologies like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP, stereo FM with RDS, GPS and A-GPS, secondary VGA camera for video calls etc. 3) Palm Pre: The perfect one to spend the money on an 'iphone killer'. Palm pre features the amazing web OS. With a curved, pebble like look, the screens a nice 3.1 inch touchscreen rendering 16 million colours at 320 x 480 pixels, and auto rotates witht he help of the built-in accelerometer. Palm pre uses the shortcoming of iphone, lack of physical keyboard. And hence it slides down to reveal impressive QWERTY keypad. On the rear side is the 3.15 megapixel camera with enhanced fixed focus and LED flash. For multimedia enthusiasts, the Palm offers a 3.6 mm audio jack along with 8GB of internal memory; the lack of expanding the same via microSD thoug remains concern. And the again with the usual stuffs like 3G with GPS, bluetooth, wifi, microUSB, etc. Witht the omission of a radio. But given the amazing webOS interface and solid hardware, this one seems ready to take on iphone. So now, pick your choice.

I think XAMPP is the best one out there. That's what I think. Not only in terms of the number of packages pre-installed, but also is better in usability front. Anyway, as you are new to the AMP (Apache, MySQL, PHP) world you can start of with any of th packages told till now in this thread. But still if you went on with my suggestion, then here's what to do next. Open "C:\xampp\htdocs\" (this should be the path if you didn't change anything during installation). Although you can start putting all your php files in htdocs folder, I would recommend you create another folder inside htdocs like "web" and there you can put all your files. Since xampp has a nice startup interface which is put in htdocs which you probably don't want to remove or move. You can access that by going to "htttp://localhost/". And to access all your created files go to "LOCALHOST/web". If the "web" folder doesnt contain index file then the browser will list all the file present in the folder, which is very useful, so dont add index file in web folder. And for the editor which you could use, of course you shouldn't use notepad once you enter the programming world. Atleast you should have notepad++ or context like programs. But for specific language like php you can use a software (once free, not anymore) called PHP Designer. And no, I am not telling to go and buy the latest version, but search and download an old version called as "PHP Designer 2005". There may be two such release at that time, both free, so do check them both before you settle with your choice. I think it is the most useful IDE for beginners. To test php codes you will first need to ink your PHP installation on PC. The you can just start typing your codes and hit F5 and voila the output appears right there in the right pane. Very time saving feature for new programmers.

Hamachi Local Networking... world wide
BCD replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Hamachi is a god sent gift for all the Internet users and gamers with dynamic IP addresses. We use it on our LAN for playing counter strike and it has worked flawlessly with no issues at all. It includes built-in chat system to instantly connect to other user besides file sharing with ease.Somebody said about port forwardiong here, well it isn't needed to use hamachi and play games over lan, I don't know what was the case (s)he was using on. Even then portforwarding on dynamic IP addresses is pretty easy job depending on the router being used. portforward.com is the one stop resource for everything on portfowarding. -

Well I think I don't have anything useful in my website right now. But soon I will be updating it as I am getting hosting accounts setup now. So should I wait and update my website or can I enter any other website during the signup? Or can I enter Xisto.com itself? -
Are you using internet from home or public restricted places like College or office? If you're using it from your home, then hopefully you would have signed up an account at opendns. With this account you can set up what type of websites you want blocked. You can even remove the social websites from the blocked list. Remember that opendns doesn't control what to view and what not, its you who can control it. Coming to topic, yes OpenID are the most efficient way to manage login access to many websites. Hope in future we can access almost all types of accounts with a single OpenID. But then the number of websites that are linked to OpenID increases, the security concerns also increases. I didn't knew of facebook letting us conect to other sites. Thanks for telling that. I have been using power.com to access many social networks under one umbrella. But I really miss facebook and there apps, so hearing his I may well switch back to facebook.

What do I need to enter in the website field while applying at kontera. I don't have a good website with regular hits. I suppose, many of you who signed up at kontera entered your own website address. Were there any rejections by kontera because you had a small site? -
I will try to help you as much as I can. It is nice thing to troubleshoot the problems ourselves before giving it to servicing. First you need to find, whether fan itself is the source causing this noise. Ok, so to find if the fans are rotating at their normal speeds, download a free program called smcFanControl from here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. And this article may help you with using the program. If the results show very less RPM then definitely the problem is with the fans. To check the health of the harddrive check out this artice: https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-check-a-macs-smart-status. If your HDD is showing signs of dying then definitely you would need to replace the hardrive with a new one. Your disk might be fragmented. This can give noise while reading data, especially in older HDD's. Try defragmenting the HDD, it may help the old HDD. It can reduce the continuos seeking of data from many different parts of the HDD. Once it is defragmented all the system files are arranged such that there is no need of unnecessary back and forth movement for seeking data. This webpage may help for getting further information. Do reply on the results of the trouble shoot you did.

Are Triangles Really Easier To Touch-click On?
BCD replied to k_nitin_r's topic in Science and Technology
I think triangle keys will result in more accurate typing rather than being easier. As CopyJosh says having such keyboards can actually curb typos. The fingers need to be more alert to hit those narrow keys. But on the other hand, I wouldn't get the satisfaction of a complete fingerpress on a key. I would feel uncomfortable. PS: Oh by the way is this idea just for iphone app or is it for physical keyboards too? What I said above was considering physical keyboards. -

Question - Any Advice Welcome! Regarding a banner design.
BCD replied to dangerdan's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
If you ask me, I would suggest you to add borders only at the sides and not all round it. And that too depends on the border you are using for the type of banner. Having a border round the banner looks more or less like an ad banner. Also instead of using the side borders just for the banner, you can use it for the content sides too, so it looks more smoother and uniform. If you could post the banner, then it would be better for us to have a look and suggest you.You can of course make your own border, and if you are creative enough you can come up with some nice designs. You can first sketch them on a paper and then put on computer using programs like Inkscape and GIMP. Both are freeware. There are very nice tutorials on web. And you can search youtube for video tutorials if you feel learinng visually is quicker. And if you need any help, do ask, I would be happy to help you. -
Wired or Wireless. Each of them have there advantages and disadvantages. People prefer headphones based on what they are using it for. So I would like to ask you, which type of headphones are you using? Why do you like them over other?I have used both types of headphones. But most of the time I use wireless headphone. I have many cousins abroad and we talk to each other using gtalk. Most of the time we keep on chatting for 15-30 minutes. So using wireless headphone I am free to move around while I am chatting. But there are some disadvantages too, like there's usually lots of disturbance in the conversation compared to wired headphones. And the batteries drain out quickly. Apart from chatting, I use it for listening music. So even though there is a slight disturbance, I still prefer and use wireless headphones. What about you?

Nice posts. Let me add some info on how actually these settings work. Aperture: Aperture allows us to adjust the amount of light falling on the sensor. Literally, aperture means an opening or a gap. When it comes to cameras, it's the opening or the diameter of the opening through which the light passes behind the lens and then on to the camera sensor. Without an aperture, the sensors or film inside your camera would not receive an input at all. An aperture is like a human eye. The aperture is nothing but a mechanical iris. The iris of your eye has muscle that adjust the size of the pupil to regulate the amount of light entering the eye. When your eyes are open more, more light is allowed through the lens. Similarly, when the aperture of a camera opens up wide, more light is permitted from the lens to sensor. In cameras the size of the aperture is called as f-stops which is measured in f-numbers like f/2, f/8 etc. They are actually gradations that let you adjust the quantity of light or exposure for a particular shot. Technically speaking an f-stop number is the focal length of the lens divided by the diameter of the aperture. As f-number increases, the diameter of the aperture decreases, allowing only half the amount of light as the previous one. ISO rating: It is basically the rating of the film to the reactivity to light. In film camera days, typically a slow film with low ISO rating was supposed to give you better quality images and a fast film with a high ISO rating gave was suited for poorer lightning conditions and poorer quality. But now in digital camera era we still have ISO. We can change it, its like changing the kind of film we are using. Shutter Speeds: Basically it is the duration that the shutter stays open. They are measured in fractions of second like 1/8th second, 1/100th second.

7.50 GHz!!! Are you kidding? Whats the processor, Intel/AMD? The fastest commercial home PC's I have known are run by i7. Even then overclocking that much with only water cooling. It would be great if you really did it. I would call that as an amazing feat. Waiting for the photographs of case. I would like to see how much of water is actually protecting it.A year so ago, myself with some of my friends went on overlocking spree on an old P4 3.0 GHz. Not that, we wanted to fry it and throw but to actually know how much it could make out. The maximum it could handle was 3.4. It ran for around 2 hrs and gave off. After some more trials we finally settled for 3.2 GHz. And yes we had antecs cooling solution all the way. Today its used as a file server for our small lan in our locality.

Let me share how my life goes on with technology. Every morning the first thing I do is check my mails on laptop. It lies on top of table which is just beside my bed. So I grab that and check my mails while still lying in the bed. :XD: I check them for about 5-10 mins and then get up doing other chores. And after coming home in the evening, I again look for anything important like forum replies, emails etc. And in night I surf the net for about two hours and then keep atop the table for the next day . So basically, I get up with computers and end my day with it.

That is because those number actually depicts the version of the engine used in the games. So vice city and San Andreas where actually based on the engine used in GTA3. And now the new version of the engine is GTA4. So may be to announce this change they add the version of the engine to the first game they create with it. I play RPG's like World of craft, Diablo. Although I am not addicted to RPG's, but I play lots of third person action adventure games like Tomb raider, Prince of persia and now Mirrors Edge. I also sometimes play Counter strike with my friends, but thats only when they call me to play. So, I am like professional in any adventure game, I easily master them and more importantly I like them very much. So on the whole I play these adventure games with a little bit of FPS games and RPG's. I am a moderate gamer.

Do you want to create your own chat bot where you and your friends can chat with each other in a single chat room? I will show you have to setup this chat bot. Firstly, let us see how does this actually work. Confbot: Confbot is a script written in python language written by Perry Lorier. It is available for free under GPL license, so if you know programming, more specifically python you can get the source code and see how it works and modify to suit your needs. It basically relays back the chats sent to the gtalk account configured to all the accounts in the contacts list. So if you join the bots gtalk account you can send chats to it and it will be instantly sent to all the other members in the chat bots contacts list. You can visit the official site here. There are many chinese groups running these bots. There are very few english groups you can see. By the way, one thing to note before we start hosting this, the email which you use to create will be updated on the official website. So beware if you want to create some top secret groups. Anybody can sneek in. You need to first make it a private room. Example chat bot created for this tutorial. astachat@gmail.com To add this chatbot to your Google Talk, just add the account name as a friend. It will automatically accept your invite and you can chat. If you want I can keep this bot online, but only if you people like, it can be a substitue for all who use shoutbox here. Setting up the Bot: 1) First download the latest version of the script from the website here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Make sure to download latest version 1.6 from the list. 2) You will need python to run this script, so download python: https://www.python.org/downloads/ and install it. 3) Now unpack the confbot script and run (double click) "confbot.py". As this is the first time you are running the script it will ask the details to configure the bot with email and password. I will write what I typed for setting up astachat: ======= What is the account name of your bot: astachat (Only type the gmail account name, dont type "@gmail.com") What is the password of your bot: password (your password, btw thats not what I typed ) Write a short description of your bot: Group of Xisto members. All are welcome. (Write a short description about your bot) Enter super admin email account: astachat@gmail.com (You can either enter another email address or the same email address you entered for the bot.) ======= Thats it. Hit enter, and it will connect. After succesfully logging in your bot is finally online. The output is something like this: Leave this window open or else the bot will go offline. The windows will output all the log details like if somebody joins the group, the window will output a message saying: "Subscribe from email@gmail.com Accepted". Periodically the bots status will be updated in the official website. And you can see your email id listed in the website. Confbot Commands: Here are a few commands which can be used by you as admin and members of the bot. Remove the quotes and enter. "/names": Lists all the users who are subscribed to the bot. "/help": Lists all the commands. So you can type this to see all the commands which you can enter. You can see some other commands with thier explanation here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Hosting the bot on server: You can of course host it on your own PC, but if you want to make it online 24/7 your PC also needs to stay awake. YOu can host it on the server with python supprt and SSH access. I will update this tutorial with the process to set up on server once I get the hosting. I would like to thank my Leonard for telling about this script. If you have any doubts or have any difficulty setting up this script please reply and I would be happy to answer them if I can. Thank you.

I have subscribed to email notification to topics and some posts which I have posted. Currently I have set the notification method to immediate. If somebody responds to the topic I get a standard non-useful subject line in the email like: "Topic Subscription Reply Notification ( Free Web Hosting )". Since I usually check the mails from my smartphone, I most often just glance through the subject instead of reading the email, it saves me lot of loading time. So, I think if the admins make some changes to the notification template then it will be highly accessible to check who replied where. The subject template could be changed to something like this: "$member replied to $topic_name". It can changed in the mycent system too, like "Mycent Update: $cent credited". Hope admin sees this. I really need this change. And if other mebers too think it should be done then please reply and say that. May be admin can change his mind and edit it.Thanks.

TLD: Top Level Domain like .com, .net. In this case I was talking about .co.nr itself getting bocked. Becasue, then making any number of subdomains wouldn't be of any use.
-
Yes kleong that would solve the problem, but in my case there are tons of links inside the iframe and so I cannot manually specify target to each of them. So I was asking if there attribute which we can specify on the iframe itself so that all the links open in new window. I think I should find another solution to my problem now. Thanks for your replies.
-
target=_blank doesn't work. I have even tried "_parent" and "_top". I will put the code here to know what I mean. index.html: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ xmlns="http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /><title>Semi Transparent Player</title></head><body><div><iframe name="FRAME1" target="_blank" src="contact.html" width="730" height="260" frameborder="1" ></iframe><p>INDEX PAGE</p></div></body></html> contact.html: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ xmlns="http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /><title>ST Player: Contact</title></head><body><div><p><a href="index.html">A Link inside iframe. Make me open in a new window.</a></p></div></body></html> I want to make the link inside the iframe to open in a new window. I don't want to manually add target=_blank to each of the links. So I want to know if there is some code which can automatically make all the links to open in new window. May be some javascript code does that? Thanks for the help.
-
Consider there are several links in an inline frame. How to make those links open in a new window instead of opening in the same frame. I have tried parent, blank targeting but they don't seem to work. Is there any other method? I don't want to change anything inside the iframe.Thanks.
-
Thats very nice solution. Did anybody ever try using free domains like co.nr or .tk forwarding (and cloaking) to free proxy sites? Does it work? If it does then that could be alternate solution to this one. But if the tld's themselves are blocked then cloaking method is of no use.

I think yordan was just giving the comparison on how not to post the names. @akashi: I've added your suggestion too. Here's a list of some popular FTP clients. I have also given the type of client whether its free, opensource or paid (Price range).Filezilla: open source, Multi platformFireFTP: open source, comes as a plugin for FirefoxCuteFTP: $15 to $40, Win/MacOSSmartFTP: Once a free client, not anymoreCoreFTP: Free to $35FlashFXP: $25FTP Commander: $30 - $100Cyberduck: MacOSMicroFTPGoFTPOthers (Please mention)@Yordan, you can just put the names. Notice from Yordan: Done.

Yes TBCKiller as yordan told, obtaining the latest package directly from the developers website and installing is the more preferred method. Because usually the packages aren't updated in the Cpanel even after the new releases. And hence if the new release has bug fixes or security patches, then you're going to miss those and more importantly the old versions would be insecure. But for testing purposes you can install from Cpanel itself as its much faster with less hassles. And for quicker development of a new site or blog, it is usually the best method to create everything in a local server (XAMPP) and after setting up everything, the layouts, the menus and other basic data, you can then upload. We only need to change the database configuration (usually in config file or similar) to the new names set up on the server.
