Blogs can just be the ramblings of people about what's going on in their lives or they can also be used for people publishing articles and these latter ones are a great way to keep up with what's going on in a particular area of interest.I have an interest in web design and a lot of sites devoted to this topic often have a blog with articles about new techniques or conferences or developments in technology.

Unless you're hosting audio, video or hundreds of pix, the size of all the files on your site shouldn't really be that much.

I've asked this question as well in relation to Xisto and it seems like you can't just transfer your hosting/account. You have to start again which is why I'm still here. Sure you can transfer your files using FTP, but from an account point of view, you're back to square one.

Max-width (or max-height) doesn't work in IE. You need to set a percentage width. Work out roughly what proportion of the screen you want to take up and then no matter what size the screen is, it'll always take up the same proportion. So at a viewport of 800px, 350px would be about 45%, so width="45%".

You can't have spaces in your ID name. You can with attaching classes to elements because a space indicates that you're attaching an additional class (you can attach more than one class to an element). But because an ID is a unique identifier, there can only be one name.

You'll need a piece of audio editing software like SoundForge, CoolEdit or WaveLab (or there may be other free options out there).
-
Yes you can but it doesn't work in Opera: CSS opacity and transparency.

Why is that a problem?

I wouldn't ever recommend someone use Frontpage - it's one of the worst web design packages out there because of the horrible, non-standard code that it produces.

Designing Index Page With Target - the table instead of using frame
Tyssen replied to BuffaloHelp's topic in Programming
If you look at a site I did - Pure GRiT - there is only actually one PHP page that calls in the rest of the content from includes (based on what is in the querystring) so it kinda mimics the way frames work (notice that the background & header never actually move). -

Comments on your site: I don't like splash pages and even if I did, I'm afraid yours isn't a very good example. As for the content: well the forum looks like any other phpBB and the other bit looks like any other default Mambo site, so it all has a very quickly cobbled-together feel to it. -

Quite often that first page has browser detection javascript in it and that 'Enter' link is generated depending on what browser you're using. -

I hate bank websites that don't work in all browsers. I mean, come on, banks make HEAPS of money and yet they can't pay for a web development team that does their job properly. -
Not true - there's loads you can do about it. It just depends on what your skills are like. My Xisto site is powered by Wordpress and I don't think it looks like a standard WP site.

Shopping Cart - Please Help Ive been searching for 12 hours

osCommerce and Zen Cart both have inventory control features. -
You could use some of the functionality outlined in that article, but imho, you'd be better off ditching DHTML menus in favour of a full CSS-driven alternative as the code that needs to be manipulated by the database would be far simpler.Check out Suckerfish dropdowns for an excellent CSS example.

I've designed all my sites myself except for one for which I used Wordpress as the back end and I designed the template and a couple that incorporated an ASP shopping cart (which still required major customisation).

Biskie's First Free Template Its wonky but it validates

I think your header looks a bit odd the way it doesn't fill out the whole area top and bottom (ie you can see the background colour above and below).Your main content area from the nav to the footer is a couple of pixels wider than the header and the footer meaning your right frame border isn't as wide as it is at the top and bottom.I think a thin border on the bottom of your sidebar would be good too.Maybe a bit more padding top and bottom of your content area. -
I really think it would've been better if you'd done some more work on your site before posting for comments. I'm surprised people have found so much to say about what is, essentially, just a table with some text in it.

XML stands for EXtensible Markup Language is used to describe data. XML tags are not predefined - you have to define your own tags. There's no difference between HTML and HTM - they're both file extensions for HTML documents.

ASP is free to use on your home PC too as it's already installed with IIS.
