  1. Any chance of trying this on another pc at home?If it works fine - it's your pc. If not, it's something with your local network, router, or anything else between that and the counterstrike server.
  2. I would of never guessed guessed it was from bioshock. Looks awesome though :DAs for being a real art - it's what I touched upon. Most people who make sigs only do it to really contribute/make themselves look cool o.o but when I see your stuff it just looks awesome and feels like you made it for art. Something rare in sig making unfortunately.
  3. Source, but I played it before the other one. My friend prefers 1.6/1.7.Personally, I don't see the point of such "debates." There's never going to be a "better" one for the general players, just personal preference. And more credits.
  4. There's some useful advice on this single-page thread. Just take it easy and try keep busy is the best way really. Go out with friends, do things that you two didn't do but you still enjoy doing, etc etc. Staying away from new relationships for a while is always a good idea. Just let time (take its time) to heal. And you'll be fine.
  5. Usually, sigs turn me off. I don't like making them, don't like seeing them, and I don't like reading them either. I don't know why, just something about it. However, the top three look totally awesome and look well thought-out, which is rare and perhaps explains why I don't like sigs. A lot of people make them look good because they know how to, but they never really put their "soul" into making them. It's just something to do to impress others, not really "art".The last one could perhaps use a more brighter text, but other then that. I Hope to see your postings around
  6. Thankyou I remember the exact same thing. I didn't even tell dad for a good week lol. I think this was before SP1. You can use Aero, a more Win-XP graphical approach, or classic, though it looks different. Vista does tend to bring more in some subtle ways, but I do agree - it doesn't really bring anything new. However, one such as myself grows tired of using XP for over 5 years. I just wanted to change, be it Vista, Linux, or MacOSX - and right now I'm on Vista and its refreshing to feel something different. Same. Wine works *ok* not *fantstic*. I don't like alot of things about it. I ended up using virtual box to run WinXP in a VM for a few weeks. The somewhat irritating "support" of Wine plus the constant "irkness" of Ubuntu forced me away. For example, I had the panels so they were only as wide as the icons. Occasionally, the panels would just suddenly go blank, and I'd have to reset them. My basic stratregy was to wait for SP1 becasue by then it'd be far more stable and useable, and it is! As for Windows7 - Microsoft has to make it good and they know it - or they risk losing alot of valueable market share. Hence, it's not going to be crud, nothing like another Vista in any case.
  7. It's not that hard. You make the panel, when the page loads, it puts the panel to the right off-screen (This means that anyone without javascript should be able to use the panel). You then click the button, and javascript simply moves the panel's X in enough for it to display. Press the button again, it goes off the screen. This is the tricky part. You could use GET/POST, maybe a cookie? I can't help you with the code sorry - but there's the theory work done
  8. Linux and it's apps are designed to be as customisable as possible. Obviously, you just got to figure out how. I didn't search much but I did find an (outdated?) article saying about KDE4's bugginess.Out of interest, why didn't you try gnome out instead?
  9. Try setting all graphics, audio quality settings, etc to the lowest and see if it makes a difference.
  10. It comes down to personal choice chriscannon. Some users love Linux and don't need applications that are on Windows/Mac OSX only. Others love the simplicity of Mac OSX, and others like the familiarity of Windows, plus it's huge application+hardware support. There's no reason to use all three, unless your forced to (work, for example). I would of stayed on Linux, tried out ones other then Ubuntu, but I'm a semi-gamer and not being able to run PS CS3 was a pain, especially after shelling out for it. Also, I found ubuntu full of little annoyances, aka bugs which for some reason just didn't seemed to be as ironed out as I expected. I've played with the idea of MacOSX and using a virtual machine of WinXP for my games... But Directx9/shader support is still iffy (Sins of a Solar Empire apparently refuses to run, which I love) and I'm still using windows anyway.
  11. I'm sorry to hear about the break up, I know how much it hurts and what goes through your head. Games (can be) very good, depending on how you play. Any hobbies? Maybe try taking up new things - you'll never know what you might enjoy.
  12. It shares compatibility dll's with wine, osknockout. The theory is a *Somewhat* good idea, but a very difficult one to implement, if not impossible. Windows is just simply too large, too complex, and not nearly well documented enough to simply be cloned. This is most likely a hobby.saitunes - I recommend you use a Virtual Machine. Install it without risking your current setup.
  13. Or it can backfire - badly. Then again, what can't? I always try to be truthful no matter what as it always tends to work out better in the end, for everyone. Good Luck!
  14. That has nothing to do with vista, but rather having the wrong drivers for his video card. Basically, you have your normal gaming cards, and the work-station cards (FireGL and nvida's equivilent - Quadro). I don't know about ati's side, but all nvidia's are is normal gaming cards with slightly different hardware (more memory, etc usually) running a different Device ID hence different drivers. There's a software hack which you can use to turn your GeForce into a Quadro. So, my Geforce is now a Quadro. Install the Quadro drivers, and suddenly, 3DS Max performs a whole lot better. You see, there's some hidden rendering code inside the Quadro drivers that is enabled when you install them. So, why pay alot more for a quado when a Geforce does the same? If your just a student, or your friend, it should be ok (though I don't know how legal it is). For a company, paying that little bit extra for proper support when things go wrong is well worth it. Where did they announce this, I wonder?
  15. You mean to say you can actually read that Klingon? I always kinda assumed that was just something people talked about but didn't really do.
  16. The saying goes "To much of a good thing is a bad thing". It's true - but I wouldn't worry. I had a quick look and couldn't find anything on this "veins harder" thing, which I find is a little... suss. Unless you are eating like 4 oranges a day I wouldn't even begin to think about it as a problem. I eat what I want, when I want and I've never been sick. The body adepts well, al-bit slowly to ever-changing conditions. These days, saying for example "Not eating carrot will make your hair go grey a year or so earlier" and everyone starts eating them. It's just random "experts" who say these things to make themselves feel big. That's not saying I know eating too much chocolate isn't good. Just use some good old fashioned common-sense.. which isn't that common.
  17. Don't get caught in the trap of needing tables for anything but tabular data, because it doesn't follow standards, and clients tend to want standards-compliance.
  18. Google keeps gmail in beta because it fits better with the laws for them, or something like that. Google is known for their security leaks but they usually don't bother fixing them either.
  19. Girls are just as hard to figure out, trust me.Gravity is *fun*, but not my friend either.
  20. There's a chance. Maybe he's just better friends with you, but a bigger chance that maybe he likes you. If you like the idea of you two together, maybe you should talk about it with him.
  21. Hi. Basically, the MovieClip(root) thing is dodgy at the best of times. Besides - it's not recommended to use root at all. In fact, it's highly discouraged. I've seen plenty of posts about this, but for the life of me, I can't find anything about what else I should use. What alternative should I be using to access properties/mc's/etc from the root/parent time lines?? edit:Cleanup/spelling fixes, etc.
  22. Purebasic is another good one - but it's not free. It's community is pretty active from what I hear and the program is in active development, though I don't know what the difference is between Freebasic and Purebasic.Just my 2c.
  23. Still around? Reply and I'll take a look.Note - I use AS3, so there no promises I'll be able to find out what's wrong, but I'll try
  24. To some extent - yes. With things like Adobe AIR. Basically you use flex (think of it as an advanced scripting tool for building flash applications) and it can run the flash application as a proper application, a lot like java. At least, that's how I understand it.Essentially - NO. There's far more standards , due to a far bigger increase in compatibility. Web Design is only "easy" because everyone sticks to two-three standards (or is meant to. I'm looking at you I.E.). Consider php - the "new line" is \r\n, \n, or \r depending on which OS the application is hosted on. And that's an easy "problem" to fix, let alone having to deal with memory management, libraries for sound, graphics, file formats, api's, etc.. It just goes on and on.Even worse - testing is a nightmare compared to us. We just open up IE6/IE7/Firefox/Opera/Safari, etc (You do check, right?) and see if the page displays right. Imagine trying on all sorts of hardware configurations, then compatibilities with other software. Also, you really need a team of coders these days to output anything useful in a desirable time frame due to the complexity of such programs - which brings its own problems of mixed languages, mixed styles of code, etc.I wish it was easy, but it isn't.As for your original statement of "hand coding" the pages. It's more alive then ever - why? WYSIWYG editors suck. They insert code everywhere, are slow. It's faster and easier to type my own code with my own hands and know what will happen. I *guarantee* you'll not find one professional who doesn't write everything by hand.
  25. So, the router is connected to both the PC and the Camera?"NETWORK ERROR" isn't terribly helpful, I'm afraid. Can you provide any more details on that error?
