  1. Well if you challenge me like that you better know what you are talking about. It's working for your site because you're lucky that your DNS is using only the ns1.trap17.com or in your case 69.50.188.18. If you go to http://www.dnsstuff.com/ and do the reverse DNS lookup, you'll find that IP 69.50.188.19 (what you claim it as ns2.trap17.com) is actually for ns2.psychz.net. To confirm the nameserver IP address, go to http://www.dnsreport.com/ and type in Xisto.com in DNS report box. You'll find in the next page what I have said earlier. You're very lucky that OpaQue has set to redirect hosting IP to nameserver. Otherwise you would have never made the proper connection. When you do your domain name on DNS report I bet you'll never get ns1 and ns2 of trap (because you're using the wrong IP for ns2). Confirm me on this. Edit: lol I just checked your site using DNS report and guess what? I was right. See for yourself http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.cayankgupta.com+ You should remove 69.50.188.19 as soon as possible for it is not Xisto's nameserver IP. Okay?
  2. St. Michael said it's NOT against the rules. As long as your site does not contain anything illegal (defined in TOS but simply--no cracks, serials, promoting anything that breaks government laws, hatred, links to censored materials etc) you may do whatever you wish with your site. You can use this link http://www.redcross.org/ and use this banner or go directly to American Red Cross site http://www.redcross.org/ and ask for permission. This is already set up by Yahoo and it'll be nice to have one organization collecting all various donations from everywhere--then send them in one big container, one shipment. You may also choose to place this link in your signature as long as you'd like. Because wherever you post, the link will always be there. Good thinking and I appreciate you bringing this idea to the forum.
  3. I'm assuming it's a self explained humor? Because none of links work except for the HOME and CONTACT. LOL did I just spent the last 30 minutes clicking on everything? D'oh me!Cleverly designed. I like this kind of complex humor that really doesn't take a lot of brain power to figure it out (ironic, isn't it? or is that a paradox).
  4. IP 69.50.188.19 is incorrect. That's the nameserver IP for totally different place (different company). Please refrain from passing out incorrect information. The correct nameserver IP addresses are:ns1.trap17.com 64.5.44.113ns2.trap17.com 209.152.167.59Please ignore 69.50.188.18 for this is the location of server that hosts your files. This is probably due to purchasing of a private name server for Xisto and hosting it somewhere else. If I'm wrong, OpaQue will correct this message.Thank you for your question. I will close this thread if there are no more replies.
  5. I'm not saying this to tell you that you should do what I do... but I always have the exact files in my computer as well as in my hosting. This is 1) it's like having a backup 2) I can test out few pages before uploading. Practicing this method would have come very handy at your situation. Tyssen is absolutely correct. To upload 500kB of a web page (which is huge since the average sizes are 20~100kB) at 56k modem, at a worse scenario at 2.5kbps upload it will only take 1600 seconds or 27 minutes (because 1 byte = 8 bit). And if your total web pages are around that size, your entire website can be uploaded in less than 30 minutes. But if you have MySQL and other forum data, that's a different story. Edit: my error in calculation.
  6. I also wanted to reply and add to beeseven that The digit 0 (zero) discovery changed the world when it was introduced in to decimal form in all subjects (math, chemistry, physics, culture, history and even in psychological perspective). Before zero, Roman numerals were used to tell the time. So if you see that old watch with I ~ XII that's how Romans used to tell the time. But along the way (I don't know when but around late 1880's) the discovery of quartz crystal proved that the design of 1 minute took exactly 6,000,000 pulses (knowing that 100,000 pulse was a single cycle of quartz, which is 1/60th). This was the first time 60 seconds were introduced to a watch/clock. So everyone agreed that the time will start with o'clock or zero standard time. By the way, back then to count the passing time, they used d = n + 1 where d = delta (difference), n = the final number - the first number. For example, if you wanted to count 1 thru 5, it would be 5 - 1 = 4 --> +1 = 5 things. Well with zero, it's 5 - 0 = 5. So psychologically and mathematically it made sense to use zero as the starting digit. This is for several reasons but mainly for the stability. DVD's contain much more compressed information therefore, in order for a device to uncompress, it needs to read it faster for the smooth "play back." DVD discs also use special layers of dye to make the data to last longer. And with the addition of heavier protective coat these all make a single DVD disc heavier than CD-R. No. DVD+ and DVD- are actually different formats. They both are 4.7GB (the definition of original DVD--digital versatile disc) DVD- format was the original compatible format that Hollywood had used. It was not supposed to be released to the general public due to fear of copy protection compromise. Then few companies like Mitsubishi, Philips, Ricoh, Sony and Yamaha got together and created DVD+ format (a.k.a. DVD+RW Alliance) to utilize the huge potential in single disc with 4.7GB (now DVD+RW DL). And someone felt that he/she just shot him/her self in the foot--so the DVD- format came up with a way to release DVD- technology without Hollywood taking the bit. This is the infamous DVD digital copy protection code. It's the same reason hopping onto someone else's wireless signal without paying, the same reason getting the regular CATV without paying for it etc. The whole illegal aspect comes from a person willingly purchasing the descrambler or the hacking box/card. Since it is premeditated it is illegal. There's no such thing as, "well I didn't know it was illegal, it's not my box" would work in the court of law The cream filling contains something called, hydrocarbon--a substance very close to a rocket fuel. Yes that's right, a rocket fuel. Have you seen gasoline going bad? Sure, but it may take about few hundred years... Yes. If a sleeper hold isn't done correctly you can break the vocal box and kill that person by suffocating. The releasing time is very important to sleeper hold (choke hold). The basic principle is to cut the oxygen to the body just long enough to trick the brain to shut down--sleep--and then release the grip. Another method is to press the nerve ending located just below the 3 & 4 vertebrae. This causes sudden stop of blood flow and the blood back flows to the heart rendering a short oxygen deprivation. Again, it takes years to learn.
  7. If I hadn't seen your past works and your sig now, I would have removed your "art" lol. You were that bored, huh?
  8. I think when rustypaulin said "Xisto - Web Hosting" I think rustypaulin meant the paid hosting. If this is true, you can have both accounts--Xisto and Xisto - Web Hosting. Since Xisto - Web Hosting is paid and Xisto is free you can have both accounts. And as Tyssen said, transferring files are very easy; just upload them with your FTP program or use your cPanel. The services are identical except you don't have to post to keep your Xisto - Web Hosting--just pay.
  9. Now someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I personally do not have the working experience with the redirect as of recently. When you purchase TLD (I've been typing it as TDL sorry) a good company you purchased from will have redirect feature. When you use that feature the URL will stay as https://www.eurodns.com/ and nothing more. But all your links should show up as http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ on the status bar (the little tool bar located at the bottom of your browser). When you park your domain you have to write a special script to keep your URL to show your TLD name otherwise, i.e. homepage --> yoursubdomain.yourName.trap17.com will show because you are going from one domain name to another. A good example of redirect is .co.nr domain names. I used to have one and pointed to geocities. Whenever I typed name.co.nr/fileName it was correspondent to my geocities.com/myName/fileName. So if you have many subdomains in your cPanel and you would like to provide a direct link to let's say your forum by http://www.youdomainname.com/forum then a redirect option will be less troublesome. I hope I have explained it well. Again, if I'm wrong someone will correct my post. Please feel free to keep posting your question, no matter how farfetched it may sound, okay?
  10. Take a look at your application request and you will find your cPanel user name. Then go to https://support.xisto.com/ and pick choice #7 to reset your password. Don't forget, this resetting process requires you to enter your forum user name and forum password.
  11. Yeah, Yahoo went back on their advertisement and $1.99 is no longer being offered. I was hitting myself for this too. badinfluence has posted a link for $4.99 per year by Yahoo. The topic contains $4.99 domain registration as a part.
  12. Remember ladies and gentlemen, don't shoot the messenger. Yes, you lose 10 credits. Xisto also uses credit as some sort of cash bases. It takes bit of work for administrators to open your log and amend your request and reset the server to be properly propagated. In order to minimize the frequent changes to one person, the administrator set the cost of 10 hosting credits for any types of domain change. Of course this does not imply that you are the one who's going to change every other day--it's just set there to make sure that the change you request is genuine and sincere. No. You only make a request if you want your hosting to point directly at your domain name. This means, to simplify, when you have your hosting point directly to your domain, the status bar at the bottom of your browser will never show your subdomain's name. This is to prevent a visitor from bookmarking a wrong site. Again, this means lets say you were hosting with XYZ hosting and you found Xisto. You had subdomain with XYZ, so your address was name.XYZ.com. A visitor bookmarked your name.XYZ.com/folder/page.html. And when you moved to Xisto your subdomain was name.trap17.com and name.trap17.com/folder/page.html. Now the visitor who bookmarked your old site cannot see that page and might think that your site is gone for good. This is why people prefer to have TDL (top domain level) name to look professional and never lose bookmarked customers. Yes if you want it to. Let's say you did not request for domain name change. If you point your domain name to Xisto's nameserver AND park the name of your domain to your Xisto subdomain, you can use them both. This too is your call, although with your question parking would be ideal only if you don't want to change your domain name. The reasons were explained with the question 1. It will not work when you change your domain name from Xisto subdomain to your TDL name. When you do change to TDL, you have to rename them, i.e. subname.TDL.com and fix all necessary links respectively Yes as long as you do not change your domain name. But if you do, refer answer to your question 4. When you change your hosting to point to your domain name, your ___.trap17.com no longer exists. Therefore, any mail sent to ___.trap17.com will bounce back. I would suggest to change to top domain level as your URL ONLY if your site can be moved and does not have huge followings or waiting for a critical data capture. Change only if all your members are willing to bookmark or learn the new URL and they are fine with that. Otherwise, I recommend parking your domain name to your Xisto's subdomain--you lose no one and no one will know you changed. You can use the auto mail catcher by setting it up through Email management system via cPanel. However this will only qualifies if you still have your Xisto's subdomain name. If you changed to your TDL, you will lose any incoming mail to your former ___.trap17.com.
  13. I guess I'm advocating Yahoo again. I am not an employee of Yahoo or receive compensation for passing out this information. Yahoo is offering $1.99 per year up to 5 years. That's $9.95 for 5 years of domain of your choice. Good, right? Go to https://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/ for more details. It ends on September 20th, 1 minute before midnight. Once you purchase a top level domain (like http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/'>http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) almost all good domain seller will give you DNS control panel where you can point to your hosing. This is called the nameservice. Xisto's nameservice are: ns1.trap17.com ns2.trap17.com And just wait about 24~72 hours for propagation and viola you are hooked! During this updating period you can do two things. 1) you can ask admins to change your account domain to your purchased domain. 2) you can park your purchased domain using your cPanel. The option 1 is much more favorable since when a visitor bookmarks your pages that are deep in, the bookmark's address will not be http://forums.xisto.com When you park a domain name to a subdomain this will happen. Remember that when you request your domain name to be changed, it will cost 10~15 hosting credits for administrator's time. And continue to do what you have been doing with FTP and cPanel. The process is identical whether you own your own domain or have a subdomain. The difference is it's all in the name... Update: I'm sorry. Yahoo is no longer offering $1.99. Shoot! I should've taken advantage of it. Please refer to this link for $4.98 per year http://forums.xisto.com/topic/26966-yahoo-domain-199-per-year-com-org-all-top-level-domain/
  14. No one sees the awesome design by BLUE0016? Am I the only one? I hope not.I like Blue0016's design because it reminds me one of boxes from comic strips. The action is alive. I mean even though it's a still picture, you can imagine that it's about to move to strike. The color choices were perfect too. By picking opposite colors to work with each other, the render is far stands out from the background. Yet, the render and the background blend in quite nicely. The border is missing (I think) but it works for this signature. My vote is for Blue0016. Go get 'em!

  16. That is actually a very good question. I don't know the exact date, but I heard that it was sometime during the month of June, 2004. When you do sign up, please introduce yourself at General Talk > Introductions Thank you
  17. I don't have the official answer yet. But it seems like during this forum upgrades you may experience some service interruptions, i.e. MySQL cannot connect, page not loading, quick refresh, status bar reading too many too fast constantly etc, so please be patient. Well at least I now know that I wasn't the only member experiencing this. I first thought that my browser was being hijacked :)Rest assure that everything will come back to normal once the forum upgrades are done.
  18. It says cPanel 10... on my demo, doesn't it? I didn't change it...
  19. No. This forum works off of the credit system. The number of hosting credits you earn = the number of days your site will be on operational. 1 credit = 1 day. The number of credit you earn is based on spelling, grammar, quality and length of your post. Make sure you post enough to last you x amount of days that you cannot be on the internet. Never. As long as you abide by TOS (terms of service) and forum rules, you will never lose your hosting privilege. Administrators will not meddle with your account unless TOS has been violated. You mean ad free? Yes. Always! Xisto and its owner does not believe in forced ads on member's web page(s). You have to backup your own files. You may write a scheduled backup script on your own. cPanel will also have the option of backing up your database. But you must do that on your own. For the list of services, please check out the demo cPanel link in the Alerts and Notices section. Xisto respects all posts made to the forum. If in case it was found that a member is trying to gain hosting credits without contribution, then the member's hosting credits will be adjusted. In the past some posts were deleted, but only in extreme cases. That's why we request that you search the forum thoroughly before making a new topic. Topic title and its description are VERY IMPORTANT thus reason. As long as you have sufficient hosting credits you may choose to stop posting for a while. However, without your hosting credits your site will be suspended. After 30 days of suspension your account will be terminated and you need to reapply for another one. Posting in the forum makes sure that each member is active at the forum. No. Xisto provides free subdomain, i.e. yourName.trap17.com. Yahoo is currently offering $1.99 per year up to 5 years for top domain level name. This offer expires on September 20th at 1 minute before midnight. The forum has never gone down for more than few hours in the past. But that's due to regular maintenance. This forum is well protected. However, in case your hosting credit runs out before you can make your post, you have within 30 days to post to bring your hosting credits back to positive value. Your hosting is terminated ONLY after 30 days of suspension. Your site is suspended when your hosting credit reaches 0 (zero). As soon as your hosting credit goes back to the positive value, within in 1 hour your site will be fully operational. Remember, 1 hosting credit means 1 day of free web hosting. And the amount of hosting credit is determined by the quality of your post. You can post 300 words and would receive 5 credits or more. As you gain the member level, the amount of hosting credit you receive per quality post decreases. This means, as you become familiar with this forum and your activity increases, the hosting credit you receive per word/post also decreases. But don't worry, soon you'll be posting with ease and gain all the hosting credits you need. No. As long as you understand the TOS you will be granted with free web hosting. If there are any more questions, please feel free to contact any of moderators via PM (private message) or use the shoutbox. You may refer to few key topics using links found in my signature area. I hope you decide to join our forum and looking forward to seeing you here soon!

  21. rip,Due to security reasons we cannot have functioning demo yet. However, as time allows, I'd like to put a snap shot of the pages for each link. Will that work for all of us? If the demo page simulates too close to the real thing, I'm afraid that it may compromise the security for all of us.
  22. According to Yahoo's disclaimer, you have to be a new purchasing customer. Which means you cannot renew your current domain. If your domain expires February 2006, you are a renewing customer if you register now. Call Yahoo and ask them for details.
  23. A friend of mine just returned from Europe for living there for about 8 months...He's telling me that almost all file-sharing are happening in IRC over there. But IRC probably uses the same server and much needed bandwidth. Who will control what's going on in IRC and the TOS has to be similar to any webservers, right? Those IRC servers are basically housing illegal materials. IRC is going to be the next "place" to be cracked down.
  24. The topic started here http://forums.xisto.com/topic/25390-google-easter-eggs-things-that-google-is-hiding/ but I understand that it's pretty hard to search for one when you wouldn't have any idea what phrases to search for. I'd like to re-stress that naming your topic title and description ARE VERY IMPORTANT! When your title is named sensibly, another member can easily search and find the topic. ----- Topic closed -----
