  1. She's a "gurl", you say? http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ gurl \Gurl\, n. A young person of either sex. [Obs.] See Girl. --Chaucer. Source: Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, 1996, 1998 MICRA, Inc. Bet you didn't realize that Chaucer was an innovator in 21st century Internet slang, did you?
  2. In English, one would say "Adrian T's Page", rather than "Adrian's T Page". The possessive rules of English are confusing, in that what sounds right is often wrong. Take for instance the crappy hamburger chain, Carl's Jr., which indicates that a man named Carl Jr. owns the restaurant. However, these funny rules do not apply to surnames, so "Adrian T's Page" is the obvious right choice.Another thing I noticed is that scrolling is very slow. Perhaps it's all that superfluous code in your source.
  3. I can't tell if you were being serious about the Queen Mum ruling Australia. I hope to Vishnu that you were not.
  4. Hahaha, is it "cool"?Dreamweaver is pretty useful, when you do not feel like coding by hand. Though some of its features are annoying, such as it ending tags for me, prematurely. Although, come to think of it, I might be able to turn that feature off.Fireworks is a pretty full-featured image editor. It is comparable to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Imageready put together, though not as good at editing as Photoshop, in my humble opinion. Still, worth your time to check out if you have a copy lying around.Flash is a must-have. Enough said.Freehand seems to be somewhat comparable to Adobe Illustrator, but I never found a good use for it after farting around on it for a week.I've never used Macromedia Contribute. I don't know why I have it. Unless you work on a site with other people, I assume that it is pretty much useless to you. That's all the Macromedia software I have ever owned or operated. The MX suite is pretty sweet, but largely obsolete if you have the Adobe equivalents. Did you hear that Adobe bought Macromedia? I have a bad feeling about that...
  5. If you plan to have a large number of greeting cards, you'll want to use a database your site organized. MySQL would work. If you don't have that many cards, you could just use html, giving every card its own page. Then you could add some boxes to the bottom of each page in which the visitor can enter his/her friend's email address and a personal comment. You would need a script to handle this, but it would not have to be very complex. If you want to personalize the actual content of the greeting card, well that's a whole different matter, entirely.
  6. Pretty much safe?I can't claim to be any expert, but I have used the fasttrack network (Kazaa, grokster, etc.), the edonkey2000 network (emule, edonkey, etc.), Napster, Bearshare, WinMX, and bit torrent. Of all of those, bit torrent was the medium that indicted me. I know that MGM is actively seeking peer-to-peer infringers, or what it percieves to be infringers, with bit torrent clients. They downloaded several files from me. And it makes sense. Bit torrent is very organized, and everything is neatly labelled. The other peer-to-peer networks are much more chaotic, and thus, somewhat more protective.Bit torrent is an excellent technology, but definitely not "safe".
  7. I wonder if the Wachowski brothers know just how impressionable their audience is. They could probably start a doomsday cult, if they really wanted to do so.They'd meet teenagers in Matrix chat rooms and give them directions to abandoned warehouses where they'd meet periodically for naked raves until that one fateful day when they all followed the white rabbit into a large bowl of cyanide punch. There is no spoon, indeed.
  8. There's no faster way to get noticed by the agents than telling people in an internet discussion board that you believe the matrix to be real. If we don't hear back from you, we'll know what happened...
  9. "Amerika" is a hoot. I don't understand any German, but I do understand the rhyming couplet "Santa Claus/Mickey Mouse", words which usually don't rhyme in English. Taken as a whole, I imagine"Amerika" to be a damning indictment of American commercialism and provincial attitude. But then again, it could very well be about how much fun Rammstein has every time they come here. Once again, I can't be sure, on account of that pesky inability of mine to speak any German at all.
  10. If I understand your query correctly, you will want to use either the "hotspot" or "slice" tools in Fireworks. Assuming that you're using Fireworks MX, these tools can be accessed from the "Web" area of the "Tools" bar.If you use slices, Fireworks will cut your image into smaller images and then put them together using tables or CSS. You can turn each individual slice into a link by entering a url into the text box labelled "Link" in the properties bar at the bottom of the screen. If you want to keep your image in one piece, you can use the hotspot tool. It doesn't actually make any changes to your image, it just adds some html. The hotspot tool is fairly intuitive. You can make the hotspot any shape (the default is rectangular), and you make the hotspot into a link by using the properties bar, same as with slices. Both of these approaches require that you "Export" and select "Save as HTML and Images". Then you just adapt the html to your own needs and you're good to go.I hope this helps.
  11. If you want to gain any sort of mastery over Flash animation, you'll need to get Macromedia Flash. If you can't obtain a copy, there is a trial-version available from the Macromedia website. There are other programs that create Flash SWFs, but I have not seen any good ones. Once you get Flash, go through the tutorials to learn the basics.
  12. Conker's Bad Fur DayIt ties so many genres of games together. And the movie parodies are fantastic. I have probably never had that much fun playing one game. I lost my old N64 cartridge, but they rereleased the game for the Xbox, so I may yet play this game again.
  13. I visited integramod.com and had no problems right-clicking on any of the images in the album or main sections of the website. Is there some other place within integramod.com that prohibits right-clicking?
  14. I do not think that this is a problem for gecko-based browsers (i.e. Mozilla, Firefox, Netscape, etc). You can right-click regardless. If you're a diehard Internet Explorer user, another way you can get past this, without taking a screenshot, is to look at the source to determine the url of the image, and then plug that into the address bar.
  15. Gemini, are you insulting Molvanian music? As a second-generation Molvanian-American, I'm offended. American music is no better than Molvanian music, it's just different. Zlad may not have a perfect mastery of the English language, but you can plainly see that he's got heart. The boy has heart. And who needs guitars when you've got synthesizers, anyway?
  16. As a staunch supporter of Firefox, I did some searching on the Firefox fora after reading this thread. I came up with this thread. It seems that there's a lot of FUD flying around. Either Firefox creates a new profile (in addition to the old one, which is not deleted), so that it looks like you've lost your bookmarks, or your bookmarks file is actually deleted. I've never had a problem with Firefox, and I doubt that this is a common issue. Notwithstanding, I'll make my judgements when more information is available.
  17. I recommend emule. They allow you to search for archives (i.e. RAR and ZIP files), which is helpful when trying to download full albums or other kinds of files that normally come in collections.
  18. Two points: 1.) In the Betamax case, it was assumed that people would be recording shows for themselves for the purpose of time-shifting. In that case, they would already be subscribing to a cable service (unless they used antennae). With TV rips, you don't need to pay for any services, so cable networks are pretty pissed. I'm not sure if the major (free) networks have launched any suits. 2.) It does not matter if it's exactly illegal. They have whole teams of lawyers dedicated to intimidating and defeating you in court. On the offchance that you win the suit, what do you get? A pat on the back from the Electronic Frontier Foundation and a whole lot of nothing. But hey, at least it only cost a boatload of money and time to defend yourself. So maybe downloading TV rips is legal, and maybe it's not. In either case, I'm in no position to challenge the networks, and I have a feeling that you're not, either.
  19. Um... JaVe? The Great Depression and the Dust Bowl were going on during the 1930's. World War II was being fought through half of the 1940's. Institutionalized racism against ethnic minorities (especially blacks, and the Japanese, during WWII) should certainly account for some of their "scum", as well as the rampant misogyny that prevailed in that day. Yeah, the people of the 30's and 40's would have been much nicer to you. That is, supposing you were an upper class white male. And then of course, there was the crime in the city. Some of the greatest American mafiosos were at their peak in the 30's. Prohibition ended in 1933, but organized crime lived on. I guess what I'm trying to say is that people have always been jerks. Poverty and war do not tend to produce upstanding individuals any more than America's current conditions, bleak as you may see them. To say that the 30's and 40's had less "scum" is just asinine.
  20. The suffix "-ful" means "full of". So, "wishful" means "full of wishes". Therefore, "Dream in a wishful way" means "Dream in a way that is full of wishes". Of course, it doesn't sound as good when you write it that way. That having been said, I've never heard anyone use that expression.
  21. Nice finds.I think the company that makes Pope on a Rope should use the slogan:"Pope on a Rope: for when you need to be immaculate."Or not. Whatever.
  22. To which software are you referring? I have never heard of uncrackable software. That claim sounds somewhat dubious to me.
  23. No, I'm pretty sure that Internet Explorer is inherently inferior to Firefox No browser is perfect with regard to security, but Firefox comes much closer than IE. They release their source code, allowing the general public to comb it for vulnerabilities. Thanks to the devout Firefox community, these vulnerabilites are promptly reported and fixed. What does Microsoft do to protect IE from vulnerabilities? They withhold their code. IE has no active community. Microsoft finds out about IE's vulnerabilities when hackers exploit them on a large scale. And they wait entirely too long to issue patches to fix their broken software.IE allows third parties to install software on your computer without your permission, using activeX, unless they bothered to fix that gaping hole in security since I last checked. This thread is no victory for IE. It is merely a reminder of how trivial the flaws in Firefox are in comparison with the manifold susceptibilities of Internet Explorer.
