  1. Great, I am rally happy that i went through this thread.I was under the assumption that there was some problem from my side and i was souble checking my passwords and stuffs. I even typed it very slowly once to make sure i am typing the right thing. But still no luck.I am not able to access the site space via ftp also. It spits some error - I mean authentication failed. So...Now i am happy that this is global and nothing has to be done from my side. It would be great, if something comes up so soon to get this resolved. ;)Thanks all.

  2. I basically have some problems in accessing xWindow applications(SAS and nedit in particular) in the server.

i get "Cannot open display" when i try to access nedit and other applications.

I did some findings on this and thought this might be of some help to you.

But I was not able to zero in on the problem yet.

The problem I guess, is the remote not able to enable the display to the server.

The display settings has to be set properly in the remote machine.

    Commands I tried

    setenv DISPLAY <server-name:display port>

    xhost +

    DISPLAY=gl5705rk02:10.0

But nothing worked out. Some of the workarounds also need root access. So was not able to try them.

It would be great, if someone can help me out.

  3. I wouldnt advise anyone to try these methods it was posted for entertainment purposes i just find some of it humorous..

We all need food to live. In the society that we live in now if we don't have money then we don't have food. That is exactly what the government wants us to think! That is how it forces us and makes us go to work, and slave away. But that is wrong! More lies that the government spoon-feeds us. Here are several ways you can get yourself some free grub:

    RESTAURANTS

Go into any restaurant and order any meal you want. Eat it, then ask for the check. While the waiter is getting the check (usually takes them about 15 minutes) just get up and leave (or you can wait until the waiter actually brings you the check). If you do this at the right time when the restaurant is full (usually Friday and Saturday nights around 6 p.m.) no one will stop you. If for some reason the front way is blocked you can always sneak out from the bathroom window. No window in the bathroom? Then you can go out through the kitchen. If stopped by one of the cooks mutter something about going to see the manager, or say that you're new.

Order any meal you want. Wait till it's served to you. Wait until the waiter starts to walk away, quickly put a cockroach or hair, or something of that sort, on your plate. Yell at the waiter to come back. Show him the hair/bug in your food. Refuse to pay for your meal. The waiter will offer you a free meal, if he doesn't, insist that he does or you'll call the manager and the Health & Sanitation Committee.

In self-serve restaurants where you eat first then pay at the exit: just eat all you want and stuff the rest in your pockets. Then either go out through the bathroom window or through the back. You can put on an apron so you wont get hassled by the cooks.

You and your partner should come in to the restaurant (or a Burger King type place), order your food, and eat it. When you are done eating and the check comes start a loud argument with each other, if necessary throw fake punches at one another. You will be asked to leave. So you just got a free meal. If you do this in a Burger-King type place, where you pay before you eat, wait until the food is on the counter, then start the fight, before paying. Don't forget to grab the bag with the burgers as you are being thrown out of the place by the coppers.

    SUPERMARKETS

Most stores toss out day-old bread, and other baked goods. You can come up to them (the employees) and ask them to give it to you. It helps if you say that you have a large family and you are currently in a "financial struggle." You can also say that you run an animal shelter and want to give the bread to the animals.

Most supermarkets offer free samples of new foods on Saturdays and Sundays. You can also ask for free samples of meat at the meat counter. And why not take some fruits that are just lying there in the open, begging to be eaten.

    OTHER

Churches, homeless shelters, and soup kitchens offer free meals to the homeless. On holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving those places have special meals with lots of food. So dress up like your favorite hobo and stop by your favorite shelter today. Just remember to come early.

Get a cardboard box and label it "American Cancer Society" or "First Christian Church." Then go around door-to-door saying that you are collecting foods for the needy.

Walk around town, if you spot any large outdoor parties at a park, with food, just invite yourself to the party. If someone asks you who you are, mutter something about being "John's friend."

Grow your own food. Invest in some seeds and start your own garden. If you know someone who already has a garden wait until nightfall and go to their garden and "borrow" their fruits and veggies.

Some hotels offer free breakfast and even dinner (if you live in the hotel). Enter the hotel, take the stairs or elevator up to a higher floor, look around for a room with one of those "do not disturb" signs on it. Remember the room number. Go back downstairs, and start eating. If they come up to you and ask for your room number, just tell them the number of the room with the "do not disturb" sign. Make sure to come early and eat as quickly as you can.

Most hotels also let you put the price of any meal eaten at the hotel on your total room tab. So just got to a hotel restaurant, tell them to put the food on your room tab, tell them the room number you picked , and you can go to a different hotel every day, and eat a semi-luxurious meal.

If you write to some food companies, praising their food, they will often send you coupons for their-brand free food. To get the address of the company that makes the food you want, look on the box for an address. Make sure to write a nice letter, praising the company and their "fine" products.

this is quite funny. I do not understand exactly what you mean by free food.

If i take the meaning literally, i should say free food is not possible.

Its always what you want is what you get and free food is definitely not in that list.

Everything gets reciprocated sir. So free food is out of question.

  4. Ya.. this is very interesting. But its not as easy as it seems t0 be.Subscribers are not so easy to find unless and you upload some very good videos on a regular basis. Also, there must be lots of terms and conditions which you will have to follow. Else they will terminate it so easily. So do spend some time on that.If you are very sure of what you are doing.. go ahead and experiment it.

  5. Well, I'm not going to disclose the name of my school or the town it's located in, for those of you who already know, more power to you. And for those of you who don't know, I'm terribly sorry.
Anyway (edit), we had to go into lock down (edit) today, for two hours and fifteen minutes. We were held after the dismissal bell for a class and after the bell to go home.

What happened is a kid brought a remote control race car controller to school. No big deal right?

    Wrong.

He was joking around about having a gun.

And if you looked at the controller at a glance, it really did look like a gun.

They had to search EVERY SINGLE room for this kid. He was described as a Caucasian (edit) male with a light blue polo and khaki (edit) shorts on. No middle schooler in the middle of America would wear that to school in his right mind, right?

    Wrong again.

At our school, we have this thing called standardized (edit) dress. It's essentially (edit) uniforms, but the people who are in charge of the school district don't call it that so they don't have to buy the poor people clothes. It was rather ironic because I was trying to convince my algebra teacher that uniforms were a bad idea. . . for a reason JUST LIKE THIS.

Well, just to give you an idea of what trying to find this kid was like, our school district is a AAAA (four-A), the second largest ranking a school district can be. Our middle school however is a CCC (three-C) which is the largest ranking a middle school can get.

We have roughly 850 kids in our middle school. So try finding that kid in a class.

    Yeah.

Well, I was in one of my favorite classes. But the teacher started to get stressed out. . . and he's not on his meds. ;)

So today was rather interesting. . .

    yeah (edit).

And just to clear up any confusion, WE DID NOT HAVE A GUN AT ALL!!

What a waste of two hours and fifteen minutes :) at least nobody was hurt ;)

This is so bad. This culture is spreading in so many parts of the world. I am in India and the number of cases where this is happening is lot more than the past decade. Definitely this is very bad in all senses. Governments and institutions should take responsibility in preventing this. Values has to be inculcated to students.

  6. Hello everyone,
The other day I was talking to a couple of my friends and as I was nagging them to stop smoking one of them said that my nagging too is sort of an addiction like their smoking. I mean the fact that the habit of nagging is considered an addiction.

That set me thinking that for all we know, Everything that we do might be an addiction, our computers, books, videogames, Junk food.

I totally agree that Iam addicted to food, books, talking and games. Dont you think that posting too is an addiction in a way?

    Freaky but so cool.

I'd love to hear about what you define as an addiction and I would love to hear yours

    Cheers ;)

Addiction is something where you want to do something and you do the opposite.
You are not in control of what you do. This is applicable in your case.

The more you try to become something else you become the opposite... :)

But still its possible to come out of addiction with some effort... ;)

  7. It depends on your requirements... If you want a kids website up and running in a day or 2, frontpage will be the best option. Do not look for dreamweaver since it requires some sort of expertise knowledge to work on.... But if it is a professional website that you are building, Dreamweaver and related things should be your choice. So as i was telling you, it depends upon your requirements...

  8. Yeah... Me? I don't remember but I am interested to know about you. :D
I know it may seem a stupid question but it interests me.

    So...

What was your first comp and how did you learn to use it?

I have seen people using it.. But exploring a computer is the assumption i take from you when you mean using the system. It was a windows 2000.. Pretty advanced OS i should say. I have a special liking towards that OS. Now i have hands on experience on the new and very old operating systems...

  9. Cool... favorite question i should say... I tend to get excited when people talk about games and Basketball in particular. :DI play Basketball. I have been playing this for some 10 years now.... i have been missing it for the past few weeks though... I am in bad shape now... :(. Planning to start playing soon. In search of people.I do play other games occasionally... from football, badminton and i run a lot. Occasional swimming too..

  10. My school exams are all done. I don't feel like I'm doing it all well, and I tought around 45% percent or more I will fail this year and there's no more test to make up my score (or we call it Remidial Test). I really don't want to fail but there's nothing to do untill 23 this month (the school report time), I'll embarassed with my friends, family if I fail. Also, my father, he works really hard untill he goes to another city to work for my family, he only gather with me and my family once or twice a month. He's a typical strict man. Now what I got in my mind is worry, fear and well I don't know what to say...
This thing may sounds stupid and all you guys may blame me because I don't study really well. But, I just want to vent all I got in my mind here

Well you should stop worrying and start thinking about the plans as to what you are going to do about it... That will help you better than anything else. Its always possible that you will pass this hurdle... My only piece of advice (replace this with something else... I know it sounds weird.. I hate to advice people...) is not to put urself into such a situation in the future... You might never have to vent such things out in the future if you dont have one. :D

Best wishes for things to turn out in favor of you... :(

  11. Sorry mate, but they do.
Just like boys like shorter girls.

But they dont like guys who are absolutely towering over them.

On the other hand, they think small guys are cute and you've got a chance there. :D

    Funny question man....
I know a girl who likes men very short.
I also know a girl who likes men who are like skyscrapers.
I know few more girls who do not like men...

Come on people... There is no one characteristics that makes you something... So...
I am not an expert.. But if at all girls get attracted to tall men... Hell. i will go and push myself into a surgery and make myself taller.. :( LOL.

  12. One day, I received a Phone call from the editor in chief of the magazine I write for asking me to write the astrology section because the section's writer was sick. I didn't care alot for astrology before, but for me to write this section, I had to study what astrology is..

As I read more.. and dive deeper inside that strange space, as I see Aries fighting with Aries and The Scorpion in love with The Cancer, I start to believe more and more in that astrology thing. Astrology really reflects the personality things, giving a blurry but kind of truth full one..

so what about the future one?.. I have a belief that nobody can ever see future, unless he\she has enough luck and logic to know what will happen tomorrow MATHEMATICALLY.

So I do Believe in the Astrological Personality thing.. but future.. well.. That's too hard .

    So..

Do you believe in Astrology? Which Part of Astrology do you believe more ?

The Personality one Or The Future one ? and Why ?

I do not believe it in as such.. But some of them are scientific... which even if i do not believe, i think its nice to have these things and so some things based on these. So, most of the time i tend to ignore all of them, but in cases where they are insisted by my family, i do not resists, but do it for the sake of doing it.

  13. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/I saw this a few days ago but it recently popped up on Digg. Thought it was a cool look at Firefox 3.

The new address bar seems to be the biggest addition to Firefox 3 and honestly I hate it with a passion. I use Firefox 2 on my windows system, but both work and my roomates computer ( which I use more then she does. >.< ) has Hardy Heron on it, which comes pre installed with Firefox 3 and honestly it's the biggest pain in the *bottom* to play with.

First I don't want my porn history randomly popping up while I'm searching for "big" trucks or something ridiculous like that. Also it's kind of intrusive as it just seems out of place and takes up too much space. Very unappealing to the eyes. The book mark feature is actually something I really like, but I'm sure I could find a similar feature with an add-on that's already in existence for Firefox 2.

The Synaptic like system for Firefox 3 add-ons is nice and all, but I would much rather browse a website that has them organized in a larger font and have more options as far as ratings, downloads and top searches go.

The new malaware prevention is actually really cool, I wish it would have came on Firefox 2 but I guess the saying better late then never plays a role here.

So what do you guys think? =x

Cool... I am sure Firefox 3 is going to be the next generation in the world of browsers. It is already !!! :D

  14. Hi guysIm quite confused with the way paypal works. i know that i can pay other people thats easy to me..
but how do people pay me? for example, there is a site that pays people to search stuff using their search engine..
but the payment details you have to provide for paypal is your paypal email address.

do they mean like the email address you used to sign up to paypal? or do you get a paypal email address when you sign up? any one know? let me know thanks
    really need the help

Paypal do not issue you email addresses, unless you are an employee of Paypal. :D
So...its the email ID you use to register which you can pass on to others to pay you via paypal.

  15. Ya... Agreed.BUt Yahoo cannot be easily avoided with the big presence it has and the span of services it has...Guess what the biggest dis-advantage is?They come up with all the best things online... but they tend to lose control and provide continous upgrades and features and in the long run the product is lost.. Yahoo Photos (they were the firstto come up with this... but they did not add features), Briefcase (one of the best in online storage... but its still the same as was released in the beginning), Mail are few examples...Ok.. Now its in a bad state.. with all the fuzz happening around it. Lets see... I personally do not want the Internet Giant vanish so badly. :D

  16. I have been using Firefox in Vista for quite some time now... I know its not one of the best wortking softwares in Vista... It used to crash every few hours and before crashing the performance would degrade a lot.... Then i would know its time to close the browser and open it.But i also see this... Its not the case only with Firefox, Its the same case with every other software in Vista... I have used quite a lot of softwares in Vista... And i have seen performance degradationa and freq2uent crashes... So i think there will be some time you have to wait for all the glitches to get resolved and all of it to work properly in Vista.. May be few service packs or so...I also see this..1. The booting and shut down process in vista is very very bugging.. It consumes so much time...2. And i also noticed this... When the system resumes from a sleep, all softwares tend to behave so bad.. i mean very slow... I am not sure if this is a problem with my systems or some other stuff...

  17. Too much of anything is good for nothing... So... Its applicable to what your friends tells you...but i have never heard of this Hyper presence of Vitamin C will harm you.. You might have tio look for some proofs and consider...by the way... I see Oranges are very good for health. And i have never seen anyone complain about Oranges... Atleast i will not do... I am an Orange addict. :D

  18. Hi Guys.. I am not sure what is happening here... Do you still nedd invites? It has been a long time since Gmail has been opened for public and any one can open an account as easily as possible,,,So...no point in having so many invites... So if someone wants to open an account they are ready to go in the Gmail home page... So...Anyways... if you still want to be invited... let me know.. I will be very much hapy to send you an invite... :D

  19. yep.. it was good.

I watched it yesterday... the second day it released in India... though the ticket was so costly.

    Pros

    1. Picture

    2. Graphics

    3. storyline

    4. the night view in the first few mins of the film were just awesome.. I like it...

    Cons

    1. It was short.. :D. I wish i could have spent a few more hrs in the theater... :D

    2. You will not understand if you have not watched the first part... or you have not read C S Lewis book... Which is not the case in Lord of the rings, which used to give you a small gist of what happened previously...

Overall.. a very good movie and had some entertainment for the weekend.

In a hurry... will post more on this later.

  20. water - nutrient?I doubt. I do not thing water has any essential nutrients... It does not have any energy giving particles in it.The only important thing that water does, is to facilitate all the metabolic activities that is taking place inside the body. If not for water every essential activity in the body will come to a standstill and will lead to death. so at any point of time, there should be a minimum amount of water that has to be present in the body...Keep in mind, blood is also half water.. so body is constituted with water in various forms... So water is indeed an essential part but that does not mean, it gives energy...oxygen from water? Possible.
