  1. I use Gmail as my primary email address and I love it. The space it has, all of the services it offers, and the new ways that it is changing the way we all look at webmail, however after using it for years I have found that there are some really major things that it is lacking that would easily make it the best webmail service possible. I am going to list and describe these features below, and I encourage other members to list features that they really think would make great additions to Gmail. Now I know there is already this topic which is very similar however, I wanted to start out a new topic on a different note: More recent, and one that didn't just copy and paste suggestions from another website. I would also like to provide This link: (https://support.google.com/mail/...) to Google's official suggestion page for Gmail, and I would like to ask members and visitors to this website who are reading this post to suggest the features that they like below. Let Google know exactly what we want from it. Anyway, on with the suggestions:

    1. Labels on the individual messages.

When you have over 15 labels on your gmail account it is quite annoying to label something with that "More Actions..." menu, especially if the label is one of the last ones. You have to scroll all the way down, and if you want to label the same message with more than one label, it makes it even more difficult, and the fact that to unlabel a message you must scroll all the way down to the bottom and select "Remove label ..." is even more cumbersome. This is why I suggest a new way of labeling messages. On every message, to the right of the label badges, and left of the subject, place a small button named "Add Label". Clicking on this button would bring down a drop down menu with all of your labels on it, and when you choose a label, the menu doesn't go away, it just checks that label and leaves you free to check or uncheck more labels. Doing this will not only make labeling and unlabeling messages, but it would also clear out that awful More Actions menu to only obscure actions such as mark as read, etc...

    2. Grouping of labels

Now I have heard many suggestions like the ability to make sub labels, however that doesn't quite fit in the theme of labeling things. Creating sub labels would make labels a bit more like folders, however if you were able to group certain labels and collapse those groups (for example I have 4 different labels based on different aspects of my job), it would make organization much easier.

    3. A Gmail email cliant for your computer

The point of webmail is to be able to access your email on the go. Before Gmail I was always using an email client to access my email, however when switching over to Gmail, I loved the fact that email wasn't being downloaded to my computer, therefore risking different emails on different computers so I started using the webmail. Now I know IMAP syncs with the server so you are not left with this problem when downloading your email on multiple computers, however as far as I know, there are no email cliants that use labels instead of folders, and sync directly with Gmail to be always up to date. It would be great if google created a client for all platforms that basically is an application version of Gmail. It would always access the server and get the information from there but the user interface is all generated by the application, not smoe fancy javascript and css. It would give you the flexibility of an application, with the amazing service and features of gmail. Now what would make this app even cooler is if it could take your contacts, calendars, and documents from Google and sync it with your computer so you could always stay in sync on your primary computer, however you would be able to access all of your files on the go using Google's web interfaces.

    4. Skinning Gmail

Now I know changing the way something looks isn't very important however I recently switched my primary browser from safari to firefox just because I saw and fell in love with the Gmail Redesigned 2.0 addon theme for Gmail. Ever since switching, when I log into gmail on a public computer I miss my theme. It would be great if you were able to theme Gmail and attach that theme to your account just like you can with your personalized homepage. Below I have included an image of the theme I am talking about:

    Posted Image

Themes are a very good idea... But the problem is these things make Gmail heavy , so such options should be kept as optional. Otherwise.. if things are pushed, it will not go to success. I am sure, you will understand that the whole power of Gmail is in its simple and powerful interface and it do not load pictures that easily... It has options to load them. So, the power of Gmail lies in its text only interface... So if the themes ans other stuffs come in... it might become heavy weight. But I think there are lots of addons available in Firefox that provide such features.. So people who want them... can very well take and use those addons very easily...

Regarding the grouping of labels.. its a very nice option. BUt I also feel that it can be achieved with the existing labels feature... You can always do a search on more than one label... So you can have a high level label and more than one lower level of labels... So... depending on your needs they can be marked with more than one labesl... So... searching also will become efficient and will also help you in organizing stuffs.

  2. Having a wiki in the intranet in your office/ school is one of the important/ best things to do in order to help you/ people in knowledge management. I did that for my company and having my fingers crossed for that to be used effectively. Hope that is going on smoothly. And regarding the guidelines...The wiki is ready to have contents. But before anyone can put contents into the wiki, there are certain things that has to be followed which can be discussed and spread to everyone so that we have a highly integrated, stable, valid(in terms of contents), spam less and reliable wiki in the long run.

Below are some of the things that i identified. Its not an exhaustive list.. .but certain things that came to my mind and I am sure there are lots of things i have missed... scope for others to add is more :)

    Important things to be followed

Add only valid information. Make sure you remove conflicts with others before posting contents.

Do not upload pictures (personal, team etc). Upload pictures only related to work/ project. This will help the system to be lightweight and function properly in many ways. Try to compress pictures before uploading.

Do not upload big files/ datasets etc. Please provide links to shared drives where these files exist.

Try to minimize the use of decks for internal knowledge transfers and use the wiki extensively.

Please try to avoid having highly confidential and very sensitive information in the wiki, its public.

    Do not spam !!!. Please.

Use only your ID (ID assigned to you) to edit contents in the wiki. Have your credentials to yourself.

If you happen to get struck somewhere, please contact others.

Please insist others to use the wiki and put all their knowledge, future transitions and knowledge transfers will be easy and effective.

Please use the ?Watch? feature in the wiki, to monitor your pages of interest.

Please use the ?Categories? feature so that, you have all your teams contents in one place. It helps to organize contents.

With these in place... I am sure the wikis will have a reasonably good content base and stable.

  3. I believe that it is a bit of both. It really depends on many factors, especially factors dealing with the person being exposed to the content. As we live and grow, our behavior develops on the experiences that we go through growing up. We form our reactions, thoughts, and methods of thinking on these foundations.

Examples: 1.) If you were sexually abused by a family member, you may develop a fear and general distrust of people altogether. 2.) If you were raised to fight and bully others, you might resort to violence to solve problems in the future.

Video games as an influencing factor work the same way, in my opinion. Anything that is able to influence the development of a child will sway their behavior in the future towards the subject matter. Fortunately enough, most kids are old enough to think for themselves and are not exactly swayed to terrorize and kill a bunch of their fellow classmates after playing a game of Halo. However, some kids are literally mentally undeveloped enough to accept the idea that video game violence portrays an acceptance of violence in reality, and thus they will adapt to the idea that violence in society is okay.

Basically, what I'm saying is that if you raise a child around violence, that child will most likely have more of a violent behavior as his/her thought process will revolve around their own experiences with the matter, simply because that's all they know. If you have someone that has the mental capacity to determine that violence is not acceptable, yet that person plays many violent games, that person MAY become violent in behavior as a result, but not very likely considering the fact that he/she KNOWS that violence is not acceptable in the real world.

    That's what I figure. [Hopefully that wasn't confusing.] =p

Remember that if you do agree with what I believe in, it is the mental capacity to determine whether violence is right or wrong that would sway a person to become violent as a result of violent video games, which means that this leaves anyone subject to becoming violent as a result of violent video games [and not just younger children]. If I didn't know better, I could very well myself become more of a violent individual because I enjoy violent video games... and so could you.

It is directly proportional to the maturity level of the member who is playing the game. When small kids play such games, they usually get carried away with such games and try to imitate characters and actions similar to the games they play which may not be the case with more mature people. It also depends on the amount of vulgarity/ crime or whatever is present in the game. Researchers suggest that small children should not be exposed to such games or even such movies. So discretion is always advised.

  4. It would be great if someone can give me that info to me too... I have also been searching to see if it can be done. Anyways i have moved to the next phone, but still the knowledge of it wont hurt. so, expecting a positive response from someone...I think this can be posted in some Nokia forum, there must be people who will be able to help us out. Will do that...

  5. Stop sitting idle and burn some calories. Of course food plays a vital role in that, so do spend some time to identify the best foods. By best foods i mean, balanced and hygienic. This is the best way to stay fit and healthy... Other artificial options may definitely spoil your health and cause adverse effects.

  6. I use IE 6, enhanced from Win XP SP2. I want to see what other people use for browsers, and maybe start a discussion. This place needs more activity... :P

Firefox... firefox and definitely Firefox !!! :)
I just do not like browsing the web without firefox. so i always have firefox in my pen drive just in case, i have to face a system that does not have this browser. Now i am using version 3 of firefox and i should say that i am liking it.

  7. Come to think about it, there aren't so many features that differentiate it from other browsers anymore, except for the extensions.
Opera has speed. IE has integration. Konqueror has dual functions. (Well, then again, so does IE...)

The only thing that's keeping Firefox from plummeting and Opera from rising up is the extensions. People love them, and it's this that hooks Mozilla to the world. Otherwise, it's just like Animal Farm. Lead them away from oppression, only to oppress them yourself.

Agreed... Addons are one of the important things that keeps people glued to Firefox. But still i think, things are in the right place in firefox when compared to other browsers. I just find it hard to locate things in IE whereas its easy in Firefox. and please... I am sure firefox has one of the neat and simple interfaces which is definitely a very big plus.

  8. I am currently using my PocketPC as my all around device. I no longer carry my old 2.2 mega pixel bulky camera (Kodak DX3600). It's too bulky and the delay really sucks. My AT&T 8525 has a 2 mega pixel camera, records audio and video as well as all the other neat things like the full slide out qwerty keyboard, touchscreen, web browser, and runs Windows Mobile 5.0. Too bad I can't install Linux on it yet :)
Well, back on topic: cameras. I just got back from a trip to Hawaii in Nov. 2007 and didn't even bring my old Kodak. The pictures from my 8525 turned out pretty well, and I'm actually considering making some calendars and postcards from some of the pictures I took there and selling them on my website... once I get it up and running the way I want.

Let me know what you think about the Specialized Camera vs. Camera Phones

When it comes to Camera phones, Sony ericsson is definitely on top of the order. i have seen same pictures from different phones and those pictures from Sony are definitely a mark ahead in terms of quality and picture. Now there are so many players are in the marked and coming up with good models and competing equally good with Sony's phones. For example nokia n82 has a very good camera featuring 5MP and its good.

So its a tough decision to make, but these phones will never replace the digital cameras... If you are looking for photos in specific, digicam will be the best option and not a camera...

  9. HeyDoes anyone use Mac G5 here? I have a Mac G5 with leopard installed. Ive recently installed Virtual Pc 7 i followed the instructions. And it told me to insert a disc and then choose the disc type and click capture disc if it isnt already captured automatically. However it wont work for me because the option to press capture disc is greyed out. If it doesnt let me click on it then how am i suppose to load it.
And it says any windows is compatible. but if i had service pack 2 would it matter? I don't know. it doesnt seem to be working. Do you know which operating system is best for it? Or why it greys out and doesnt let me click on it?

    Really need help!!
    thanks
[ EDIT : btw why do i have a little icon saying i have spelling problem, ahermz. who rated me on that? this is a forum . its not like it really matters. pssh to who ever did that]

You should give a try to VMWARE. Its awesome and it supports so many operating systems, both as host and installations.
i have recommended this to many of my friends and have got good feedback.

  10. ahhhh! i would love to become invisible mahn!! :)

the no. of things i could do. :D

yes , i know it is possible to become invisible to a certain limit.

from what i have heard scientists have created a suit that deflects light allowing you to become invisible .but this scatters light of a certain type of wavelength only..

so this alone wont make you invisible.

hopefully in the future we may have something to make us completely invisible.

The earth will be full of these people and I doubt if that will be used for constructive purposes? :P

So... Its better the normal way and be visible.

It will be nice if only "I" have that option to turn invisible... :P... I know I am selfish. :P

But the "things" i can do... cool man...

  11. I was only recently made aware of the release of Firefox 3, having not been notified by Firefox, and problems with my internet connection that caused Xisto and similar websites to slow to snails-pace, so I ended up missing the download day and haven't got it yet.
The thing is though, I've been hearing a lot of negative press about it. I know that there was concern that Firefox would break Flash support a while ago, which was fixed, and I hear it's kind of restrictive as to downloading addons and junk.

Now, I did actually test Firefox 3 Beta 5, and my only real complaints were with the theme and that stupid address bar. But the thing is, I'm very comfortable with Firefox 2 and don't wanna upgrade if it's going to break stuff or add features that I'd rather do without. So, I'd like to hear from current or previous Firefox 3 users about their expirience with the new browser, and give their opinions as to whether they'd reccomend getting it. That way I think we'd have a balanced argument where the winning side would soon become obvious.

So, what do you think? Is Firefox 3 really "all that"?

Its definitely worth upgrading dude. There are so many changes that are very useful. You will see the difference when you start using it.
Believe me... You will love firefox more and get more addicted as I am now... :)

  12. I have come up with my page here... http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
Though its a bit old, i update it occasionally to inform others what I am upto.

Previously i used to have this web-page for some other purpose (Like displaying news from various sources using RSS), but have now turned it into my home page (Primary...), and update it when my status changes. It has been some time, from my last change and as for my knowledge all info are true.

Of-course its one of the very good service from Google...

  13. Recently I stumbled upon this story.
    --> http://de.ask.com/?o=312&l=dir

I have no idea why it is so long. Anyway it states how many people are choosing to create their own merchant accounts rahter than use the free Paypal. I am asking because I have a paypal account and I don't find it to be that bad. Though I am not entirely sure because I have only used it once.
Do any of you not trust paypal?

    Hey Spawn...

I am not very sure of the article to whose link you have posted in your post. But i have experiences of my own which i would like to share.
    http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Check out the above link, where phishing was happening in the name of Paypal. I will not blame paypal for this, as this is common for any site that has some credibility. So, its up to users discretion. Though it is tough to identify such threats, users have to be very careful not to pass on the user names and passwords to third party anonymous websites without knowledge which may lead to so many adverse effects of upto losing your account all together and the worst, losing your money.

So, its always better to be very careful with the activities of yours online and also advice the same to your friends and family, like I am doing here :).

  14. What in your opinion how would you want to die?
Doing something saving some one else's life and taking you own

    In a car crash?

    Heart attack?

How would you like to die.

I'd like to die old in my sleep, Dying slipping over or doing something simply stupid is simply.. a stupid way of dying =]

This is a crappy question i should tell. One reason being the question itself is bad and the other being the number of options you have given and i should say, you have a very bad taste... Hey no offence... That was for fun.

Anyways, You have one good option that i like and i wanted to stick to that.... Die old in my sleep. :)
And if you need more ideas on how to come up with so many options get back to me.. will come up with a big list for you... :D

Alternatively you can find them here using the Google sets page -- http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
Indeed a very helpful service... Thesaurus basically...

  15. CSS is basically made to make your html coding a heck of a lot easier. However, sometimes I prefer to use html instead of CSS since it sometimes gets frustrating to refer to the same old style sheet and use an old font ID you made about a week ago. I find it a lot more efficient to just type out the specified font color/style/size in the <font> tag than to use an individual <div> or <table> for certain fonts you'd like to use. Sure, it's very helpful a lot of the time to use CSS in most cases, since it's kind of like a very simplified version of PHP but in a different case, but sometimes for small sites it's better to just not deal with another file.
How do you usually use CSS, and how often?

Almost every day man... I am into lot of things these days and that keeps me engaged. CSS is only a part of the full picture... I have few websites of my own and have few blogs too.. These needs continues maintenance else will go to crap, so kind of needs my attention always.... So i have no other choice but to tweak them regularly and keep myself updated. Though i do not create css of my own, i work a lot on that. Most of the time, i change/ tweak the codes that are available online or elsewhere...

For tweaking there are so many references I have, though Google helps in most of the time.

  16. You will never be able to appreciate Vista if you go with its minimum requirements. All i know is, If you really wanted to appreciate the power of Vista, You should have a minimum RAM of 1Gb and have enough virtual memory in the HDD. You should also have a good display for so many things to be good in your system which i am sure you want...All the above things of mine are words of Wisdom :) from my past 1 year of Vista usage. :D

  17. Ok kind of movie. I still like it.I like the one with the fire.. i do not remember the names of them basically.I used to watch the fantastic four in cartooon network back when i was in school and always liked the fun.And when it came out as a movie... I was happy. But i should say that my expectations were very very high and it fed me for 70-8- percent.

  18. Which do you think is better XP or Vista or Linux. I am constantly switching back and fourth and cant stick with either. vist has some pretty cool features but Xp has about twice the amount of performance.

It depends upon your requirements... For development Xp id definitely the better option, but i would strongly recommend to use vista and start to get things done as in the future you will not have an option to switch back once the support to XP stops which is due in 1-2 years (i am not very sure of the dates... but i rad somewhere that it was soon and it was pushed back because of the demand from big companies...) and it will struck you hard when you do not have a choice...

And when it comes to entertainment, personal use and looks Vista is the best. though the performance of the system sucks in Vista you always have the option of changing the settings to best suit to your work/performance and until you have that option i do not know why you have to switch back and forth between windows XP and Windows Vista. I have an experience of using some GIS software which did not have support for Vista and i had to uninstall and install Xp and the worse part is the support was releases the next week and i had to switch back. Uninstalling and installing is not the worse thing.. (I like to do that... i should say its fun).. but when some work has to be done... thats where the trouble is.

Coming back to your ques... It depends on your requirements.

  19. Have never really paid much attention to desktop suites, but built my first Linux box and threw Open Office http://www.openoffice.org/ onto the computer and it's awsome. I don't see why all small/mid size companies and individuals would ever buy MS again. I'm just as happy to download a better office suite for free than to buy one for $200. Really getting sick of Microsoft.....

You mean to say that "Open office" is awesome... ??

What the hell is wrong with you... Your post kind of struck s me hard in the neck.

I was(is) also using open office for quite some time now... It runs in parallel with the ms office in my system and i should definitely say its not even close. MS office is far far ahead.... the amount of bugs that's there in open office is so much and does not let me do even some of the basic formatting's. The present open office is kind of grand father of the past generation to MS office 2007. It does not match the 2003 office itself.

i know its hard but that's the truth and no one can deny the fact.

I should say MS office users are more happier than open office users and things are done much faster.

    the next generation

And by the way... the next generation is not with the desktop apps... Everything that runs inside a browser have got some appreciation and the worlds turns back.... Browsers are the next generation of platform independent application frameworks and google and few other companies are doing a better job out there...

  20. Ya... the history tells me that these systems are like that. The best thing to do is to chuck it and get a new system (I still have few more things in my mind... So that would be a bad recommendation...)

what will i do if i were you?

Keep my cabinet open and let the air flow through it. I will also go forward and have a small table fan next to it.

Even if this does not help and it still gets enough heat... I would really really recommend the first option given by me.

FOR FUN -- Keep it next to a fountain... That might help :).

  21. Ya... thanks for the link. From my first view it looks promising but have not tried out yet.Now a days i am very lazy to signup in any of the sites. Kind of sucks with the amount of details that i have to fill in... though the amount of details has to b filled has reduced in most of the sites wherein they ask only for the email and its done... I am lazy to do that. But still the site looks promising and i have given a try. Will try out few stuffs there and will post the feedback when time permits.... i would not talk anything against Xisto though... i am one of the happiest customers of Xisto and i would never prefer to move out of Xisto, unless they close this free webhosting and is unlikely in the near future... :)Xisto.. You rock.

  22. Thanks... This helps to some extend.First the usual typing of the website name alone did not work... but the full address of the site works fine...Few more questions here?Is this the only way to do this?Do we have any other options in windows? If so... it would be great to share it with us. Thanks in advance.Also.... It is possible to define your own browser via some libraries in the microsoft based languages... I was searching for something for one of my packages back in college and i did find that there was such an option to create a browser of our own... Still that might not be able to match the top class browsers,,, still it might be of some help where things are blocked. i have never heard much about blocking IE and any other browser usage for that matter. Anyways have to experiment stuffs.
