  1. Hey calculate out the mortgage, if you take out a 30 year mortgage the payments are almost affordable at a mere $431,001/month this apartment could be yours. And of course if you think the 70Mil price tag is bad you would be paying an extra 85Mil in interest. I'm gonna rush right out and buy it
  2. Just to clear things up, this is XP we're talking about right? And do you have File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks installed in your Network Settings? Do you know how to do that? It is hard to give you direction without knowing more info, well I could give you detailed step by step, but it would be easier if I knew exactly what you have done, and how much you know about setting up networks.Basically if you have File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, it is just a matter of selecting the folder/printer and sharing it out by right clicking on the object and going to sharing and setting up a share for it. You have to give the user on the other computer access to the computer, but that isn't that difficult.
  3. I skimmed them, but my page is still in development, and probably will be for some time. Slowly working on it .
  4. The miracle of birth is not in the fact that a child is born, or the complex biochemical interactions that occur in order of this even to happen, but in the amaizing psycological transformation that occurs in the parents of said child. I had the joy of experiencing this not too long ago (ok, almost 3 years ago, but ask any parent three years of watching a child grow seems like three minutes of Real Time) and all those same concerns hit me. It is amaizing how quickly life turns from your own personal concerns to that of the welfare and happiness of a child. The mere fact that you are wondering this implies, to me anyways, that you are capbable of thinking like this, you just have no reason yet.
  5. No such thing as a RAM virus. Once you power off your system nothing resides in RAM so a virus cannot infect the RAM, the closest thing to a RAM virus would be a virus that loads in a TSR (terminally stay resident) program. You seem to have eliminated a good number of problems, but I have to ask, have you eliminated the power source (not supply) as your problem. Is it possible that the PC's are plugged into a bad outlet? I know it seems like such a silly thing, but I have seen it before where an unreliable outlet would power up for a few seconds then shut down the second the PC tried to draw any more power. Try plugging into a different outlet, using a different power bar or UPS. If your power outlet is off it may also be frying your powersupplies, and that could be why the comptuer you knew was working is now exhibiting similar symptoms.
  6. The Da Vinci code is an extremely good read, and as others. As others have stated it is about the Holy Grail.Saint Michael: And how would you know that the book is complete bull if you have only read a few pages? Of course it is completely made up, it is after all a FICTION novel. As to it being made up of just popular places and known people, well duh ya, but to be fair all of the descriptions of the artwork is 100% acurate, in otherwords everything he sais is in the art is really there. If you doubt it read the book and then look at some of the art, or buy the illustrated version of the book, it has most of the art described in the book, along with blow ups of the specific works.

    Google Hacked?

There are many ways someone could accomplish this without hacking google, it is more likely that a virus replaced the hosts file and pointed google to sogosearch.com's ip address instead. Not a very difficult trick, and it can throw a wrench into the works. You say you heard it on the news? What network? I would be interested in finding out more about this piece of news.
  8. Ok, this is just plain silly. All of these arguments are ancient and pointless."Waving Flag"There are a multitude of possiblilites to explain this, and they have been covered in this thread over and over again. Suffice it to say, there is a reason why it APPEARS to be waving in the non existant wind."No dust on the lander"Again, this has been covered, but I will repeat it, dust takes a very long time to settle, and a picture would not necessarily show dust, no matter how clear it was."Second Light Source"Again, it has been covered, but again it bears repeating, EARTHSHINE!!! The earth IS a light source."Van Allen belt radiation"There are several methods through the Van Allen belt wich minimizes radiation, it is easy enough to avoid the heaviest areas of the radiation belt, and this is exactly what the appolo missions did. Also it DOES NOT require 2m of lead shielding to protect against said radiation. This is an urban legend that is completely false, the fact is 2m of shielding would probably protect you from a nuclear blast, and do you really believe that the van allen belt is putting out THAT much radiation? The Radiation in the Van Allen belt is not the same as electomagnetic radiation, and if I recall correctly metal is fairly useless against particle radiation, the shielding of choice is I belive polyetheline (sp?), back in the appolo age they used something else, but there are numerous materials that work just fine and dandy.I have seen a similar documentary, and it is compelling, but the arguments are made by people who don't have a basic understanding of physics, and NASA doesn't bother refuting them because they are silly arguments. That are not fully researched. There I believe that I have refuted all the evidence agains the lunar landing. If people still choose to believe something they saw on a deliberately biased documentary I refer them to Chariots of the Gods. Or if that reference was a little vague let me relate a little story my Grade 11 physics teacher told us about analysing data to "prove" something. One of his students (or so he claimed, personally I believe it was probably him) proved conclusively that three hole punched lined paper was a message from Alpha Centauri. His argument was extremely interesting, but of no real value, in his paper he demonstrated that by taking the length of the paper and multiplying it by the number of lines, and then doing something about the radius of the holes you end up with pretty damn close to the exact distance from here to Alpha Centauri. Very interesting little paper, I read it, quite amusing and throughly convincing, however you then had to realize all the crunching he had to do to fit the theory. When you start out with a theory you are already convinced is true it is pretty easy to skew the evidence in your favour.
  9. Ya that is a useful feature, I've used it a number of times, though I still prefer just to go to http://www.merriam-webster.com/ since the definitions are more reliably accurate, though with the google define: feature the M-W definitions quite often come up first.
  10. Once again, once upon a time, sure. There was a time when Microsoft employees were Millionairs before they hit 30 thanks to shares given to them in leu of paying them big bucks. However now adays people are rightfully more mindful of the fact that shares mean diddly squat in the long run sometimes, and the Microsoft Millionairs quickly found that their paper millions shrank as the market returned to normal. Bill gates may be among the Richest men in the world, but his programmers aren't. A top notch programmer could get top dollar, while a mediocre one would make barely minimum wage. If you doubt it check out how many part time programmer contracts there are available, and how many people are willing to do the jobs for peanuts. I still say business is your best bet, because with a good degree in business from a reputable school even a mediocre business man could make more than the average programmer, and a great business man could make more than the best sports figure.
  11. Once upon a time perhaps, not so anymore. You see once computers were these nearly mystical things that only a few "specialists" understood, and a person could make a mint with a little computer knowledge. Now adays though to make serious money in IT you need to either head for the business end of things and aim for a CIO type postion, or high end specialized programming. Jobs in the IT industry are now difficult to find as the market is saturated with MCSE's and other "certified" professionals. Hard core programmers still make good money, but the market is even pretty streched for programmers. I think the highest paying jobs are in business, get an MBA along with a non business diploma and your pretty much set. Like I said about the IT industry, if you had a computer engineering or computer science BA and a MBA you can land a job quite easily in upper management and be in the higher tax brackets in no time.
  12. Well why not look at every car that passes you by and wonder if it will crash into you? I don't think I would look up at a flying car and worry it will crash, nor would I worry about flying one. Of course I am assuming that as more safety testing then what goes into cars would be done on these flying cars, but that may be a silly assumption on my part. Sure at first when (and if) such cars come about only the super rich will be able to afford them, but they'll come down in price just like everything else.
  13. Glad to see a youth taking an interest in Politics. Canadians are netoriously uninterested in politics, and for this reason I think the Canadian voters are partially responsible for scandals like this, we vote the crooks in with little thought, it takes very little effort to majorly change the face of a political party in Canada because there are so few people who are willing to do it. Just because you are too young to vote doesn't mean you are too young to become active in politics. Most parties have a youth memebership policy which allows for people under the voting age to join and get involved in the party. I don't know if the Greens have this but you can always go to thier website and ask. I sure hope things don't blow over too quickly, I would like to see this sorted out properly, and not swept under the rug. Why was it too extreme? I think Canadians should hear from the PMO like this more often, I know it came dangerously close to intrupting Survivor (which I am addicted to and would have a hard time turning on Paul Martin instead of those castaways ), but still it is nice to see the PM actually addressing an issue. Although this is a Liberal problem more than a Canadian problem, but the Liberals are the governing party, which makes it a Canadian problem, because I don't know about you but I want to know how crooked the crooks we put in office are.
  14. After I attacked your position, I'd like to give you an example of where we share one position (though I don't mind people who didn't spend much time thinking about an issue participating in an demonstration just to increase the number of people who've been there ) 133226[/snapback] Don't worry about offending me, I don't offend easily ... Seriously, don't get me wrong, I am NOT judging people for attending protests, I am saying that it should be fairly low on the scale of things to do for/against an issue. There are so many protests lately, and so few of the protesters really know what is being done for/against the issue they are protesting in government or in the real world. I applaud those who are true activists and who are working using multiple methods to reach thier goal, both activly (with protests etc) and passively (through thier government). I do believe that a well worded and signed petition goes alot further than a protest for 9 out of 10 incidents. Next I never said he should never attend a protest at his age. I just said his parents should not WANT him attending a protest, especially if it is not one they are willing to attend (a parent should never be forced to attend a protest because thier child believes in an issue, a parent should allow the child to have thier own views on issues, but not change thiers just to please a child, a child must learn that others can have differing views then thier own). If the original poster feels strongly enough about an issue, perhaps he could bring the issue to his parents and encourage THIER attendance at a protest, then perhaps they would be willing to bring him along.
  15. Ah, i've seen articles out promissing flying cars to the huddled masses "in 10-15 years" since the 80's. The problem is, as others here have stated, it has to be affordable.
  16. When did you say you were going to start protesting for the sake of coolnes??? right here: That is the impression you gave, perhaps it isn't quite what you ment, but it is the impression that you gave. Your statement seemed to imply that you wanted to become an activist because it is cool. I was really hoping that that wasn't the case, because activism is NOT cool, it is not cool at all, in fact protests and such should be one of the LAST things you should try in attempting to change things. There are many other ways to get involved in issues, take an interest in politics and write your representative, if you are anti-sweat shops research companies that employ such methods and try to expose them, and yes boycott them by all means, that is passive activism, but actively protesting and such should not be undertaken lightly. I admire your youthful idealism, but just because your parents don't want you attending protests (rightfully so, they shouldn't allow you to go to those at your age) doesn't mean you can't get involved. Start taking an interest in politics, that is where you can make a real difference, even at your age.
  17. Oh gee a pyramid scheme, and they don't even bother to hide it. Oh and 500,000 people VISIT the site every week, not register. How many of those visitors actually register, and how man go "oh man, just another pyramid scheme" and turn around, probably the vast majority. Of course they offer a service for joining the scheme in the form of downloads. Are the downloads at least any good? Heck though it is only $2 I may give it a shot. Have you made your $2 back yet?
  18. No one should be an activist just for the sake of "coolness", one should get involved because they believe in a certain cause. You say you are going to be an activist, what is it the cause you believe in enough to actively support it? Just as no one should be an activist for the sake of coolness, everyone SHOULD be an activist for a cause they believe in.
  19. Took me almost no time to rack up enough credits. I have even since racked up enough to upgrade. The variety of topics here makes posting fun and not seem like a chore at all. I have enough credits that I don't have to worry about posting every day, but I still manage to post every weekday (not on much over the weekend).
  20. Those are just in the evaluation phase, it takes a while for new TLD's to be approved. I think the .jobs one will be highly used by the job board sites, the .travel one I believe is sponsored by a travel agency group and will only accept travel agencies and the like so I think it will do better than most ppl would expect, I can't see it being widely used, but it will have a very specialized niche market.
  21. Read his Address to the Nation Here This is primarily for Canadians, but others may be interested as well. Last night at 7:00pm Prime Minister Paul Martin Addressed the nation about the sponsorship scandal. For those of you who don't know the sponsorship scandal is something which is being investigated by an independant inquiry here in Canada. What happened was that the previous Liberal Government headed by Jean Chretien gave millions to several Liberal friendly advertising agencies for the sole purpose of generating commissions for those agencies. Paul Martin was the Finanace Minister at the time. Paul Martin went before Canadians and claimed some of the responsiblity and said that justice would be sought and served. He also claimed he knew nothing about the Sponsorship Program while he was Finance Minister. Martin made a promise that once the Gomery Report (Gomery is the justice in charge of the inquiry into the scandal) was issued he would call an election within 30 days to take the issue to Canadians to see if the Liberals still deserver the role as the minority government. I believe Paul Martin when he says he will pursue the guilty members of the Liberal Party, and even when he says that any money that made it into the party's coffers will be returned (although I believe this with considerably more sceptisism). What I think will happen though is that not a single Martini (Martini is the nickname given to Martin supporters during the battle between Chretien and Martin for the Leader of the Liberal Party, or essentially the Prime Ministership since a Liberal victory should have been a forgone conclusion if it hadn't been for the sponsorship scandal) will fall during the inquiry. I think Martin is (employs) (a) brilliant spin doctor(s) capable of ensuring that any incident that looks suspicious to his loyalists will be deflected, while every incident that looks suspicious pointing towards a Chretien loyalist will be brought to the full attention of Canadians. Martin has always been good at massaging the press to print what he wants them too, if you doubt it look into what was printed during the Martin v. Chretien battle, and what happened to Shiela Copps. I hope to god he is lying about knowing about the Sponsorship Scandal. Not because I want to see him go down in flames. I am not a Martin fan, however I do respect him and I think he was one of the best Finance Ministers to ever hold that office. I think he is too conservative for my tastes, I am a liberal* and I think Martin is a Liberal in name only and he is on the far right of the political spectrum within the Liberal party (which still leaves him with many great liberal beliefs I know). I hope he is lying because otherwise he is just an incompetent fool. You see this is a clear cut case of damned if he did, damned if he didn't. Martin was Finance Minister and it was clearly his job to know where the money went. True Chretien and Martin were in a heated battle over leadership, but they had been since before Chretien even took office, so what changed. Sure Chretien was probably keeping Martin in the dark about many things, but come on we are talking about alot of money, it should have triggered some red flags in Martins mind. I would respect him if he admitted he knew but could do nothing about it since Chretien was keeping him on a very short leash, which is probably the case. Martin just wants to keep his nose clean on this one, but personally I wouldn't mind if Martin admitted to knowing about the program, the only way I would be upset is if Martin was a participant. Though I admit it would hurt him if he admitted to knowing but did nothing, but I would have hoped he at least tried to investigate what was going on, otherwise he was not doing his job that Canadian taxpayers paid him quite hansomly to do. As to the election I know that many of the oppositon parties have slammed Martin for not calling an election now, but I say to them, why don't you want to wait for the report? Before the last election most were calling for Martin to wait for the inquiry, now they don't want to wait? Sure Martin is carefully trying to avoid both issues being on the table at the same time, but still if it is a damaging report bring it up in debates during the race, why call an election before all the evidence is in? Luckily the NDP (always my second choice party) has been calling for the report to be completed before and election call, so at least one party is still votable. Not that I would vote Conservative even if Steven Harper (Cons leader) personally told me he would wait until the results and that he would do all my house hold chores for the entire term of his Prime Ministership. I don't trust the new Conservatives one bit. They can't hide the fact that they are more Reform/Alliance than PC, and the Reformers were scary, and the Alliance was terrifying. Harper says he will put it to the country, but he is itching for an election, and has been since Liberals were given a minority government. He knows though that he can't force one without the Bloc and/or the NDP, plus if he forces one when the country wants to wait he will be hurt badly and the NDP will be the ones who gain the most. The Bloc have nothing outside of Quebec, and can't since they are a Quebec separatist party, so where would the votes go? Certainly not to the Liberals during such a scandal, some might actually go to the green party, but who really takes them seriously? NDP will be big winners, probably not enough to form a government, but certainly enough to be the powerhouse in a minority Liberal Government. I hope Martin is prepared to attend Question Period today, the opposition are itching for thier chance to properly respond to his speach. Generally a statement such as this should have been done in the house and not in his office to the press. But Martin was smart in one respect and went straight to Canadians, knowing full well that in Question Period his statements would be drowned out by the oppostions yelling, and that 99.9% of Canadians have never watched Question Period so he would be relying on the press to publish his remarks along with thier comments, the only way to get his message out undiluted is to adress the nation in the manner he did. So all you Canadians (and international Political followers alike) out there, what is your take on the PM's speach? Do you think the speach was just a political hail mary to try to save his floundering popularity? Will it work? Will the opposition be satisfied with a Jan 2005 or Feb 2006 election (which would be when the Gomery report will be released). Can the Liberals recover from this scandal or will they take a nose dive a la Kim Cambell's PC's. Kim Cambell was Canada's first female Prime Minister, she took over for Brian Mulroney and was made PM without an election since Cryin' Brian left before the election, when the election hit I believe only three or four seats went to the PC's and the party was crushed so terribly that they temporarily lost their official party standing. In all fairness to the right honerable Kim Cambell, the defeat of the PC party was only partly her fault, Cryin' Brian was one of the least popular PM's by this point and Canada was just itching to ditch the PC's thanks to NAFTA and the dreaded GST, but Cambell came out swinging hard and missed every attempt to bring the PC's back into the public mind. *Note: I use the small "l" liberal since I am not a member of the Liberal Party, but rather believe in liberal ideals. In my writing when I use capital "L" I am refering to the Liberal Party and the lowercase "l" when refering to liberal ideals.
  22. Well he is a world leader and a head of state. The Vatican is a country of its own with the pope as the countries leader, not to odd to expect him to live up to the same scrutiny other country's leaders experience daily.
  23. There is nothing wrong at all with leaving your computers on 24/7, in fact if you turn your computer on and off more than twice a day you are significantly better leaving it on 24/7, both in lifespan of your PC and in electricity costs. When you turn on your computer a surge of electricity hits the circuits and heats them up very fast, if you want to see what this type of situation does take a glass put it in the freezer over night in the morning boil some watter and pour it into the frozen glass (WARNING: The glass will crack at minimum, it may even shatter so make sure you are not holding the glass, and it is somewhere that if it shatters the shards are not going to cause damage). Granted Copper, gold, silicone, etc. is considerably more resiliant, and not nearly as cold as all that, but it is a demonstration of the stress caused by abrupt temperature changes. You have to realize that the wiring on your mother board is extremely fine and such changes could cause minor fractures which could impede electrical flow through the wires. The reason your computer lasts longer than your school systems has nothing to do with leaving it on. You must realize that school computers are used WAY more than your average home PC, plus there are more people using them per day, and little to no way to control what is done to them. Trust me I work as a PC tech in a school and the crap I pull out of computers would surprise you. I have pulled an entire chip bag out of a floppy drive once, that chip bag fried the floppy drive, it had to be replaced. Another time I opened a PC up to find that a motherboard had litterally been snapped in half. You are right about the weekly reboot though, that is recommended, and it will improve your performace IF you are running a Microsoft Operating System, most others (ie Linux) do not even need this, Microsoft has hundreds of small memory leaks, add that to crappy TSR (terminally stay resident) programs that also have leaks and it slows down over time. Somehow I don't think you have the WHOLE story on that one. I will have to presume you mean CPU and not PSU because PSU means Power Supply Unit, and chances of that melting from normal use (and 14/7 is considerably less than normal use for a server) is non existant, the CPU generally can't physically melt, but it can be fryed over time, and specialized cooling systems can be bought for CPU's but I haven't heard of one for a PSU. If the CPU (or even the PSU) had died while it was running it still would have crapped out (and if it was the PSU it would have powered down hard) regardless of the reboot, but powering it up could have finally pushed it over the edge, so they would have been better off to leave it running 24/7 and they might have gotten more life out of the server. Servers are designed to run 24/7/365 and generally do not need to be powered down EVER. MS based servers (ie. NT, 2000 Server, 2003 Server) do need the ocasional reboot, but even that is not all that often. Just imagine if all servers only ran 14/7, you could only get to certain websites at certain times, not a good senario.
  24. That is the biggest problem with Compaq, they go with the cheapest hardware at the time, and they are continually changing the hardware. There seems to be no logic to it at all. You would think a company with the buying power of Compaq would be able to go to Toshiba and say "We will buy toshiba CD-drives for every of our laptop model Xxxxxx off you if guarantee to have the price of $xx.xx per drive." Toshiba's response would probably be to sign the contract and start shipping before the Compaq execs got back to the office. There is no reason that Compaq needs to randomly change Hardware suppliers every five minutes, they ought to be able to keep the same h/w per model, but they just don't even try.
