Index In A Mysql Database Make the numbers follow
mrdee replied to mrdee's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Thanks for your comments, gentlemen. One more thing: is it possible to display that 'Record' field? Ihave seen the SQL Query SELECT COUNT(*) FROM `table_name` WHERE 1rvalkass posted, but not 100% sure how to display that (probably using PHP). You see, I have put a petition on my site, everything works perfectly and I display the result of the petition (bar the people's email addresses) on my site by using coding that was made with PHPRunner.(A program that generates PHP code to do things with a MySQL database, I used the 'printer friendly' page to display the list). However, I would like to put something at the top such as "xxx people have already signed the petition" or to put a number (1,2,3,..... all nicely numerically ordered) next to every name, although the first solution might make more sense, ie.saying how many people signed, and have this automatically updated every time someone new signs. As you can see, my knowledge of PHP is not yet strong enough, which is why I have to rely on programs like PHPRunner and the likes. Anyway, thanks for your explanations you have sent in so far, and apologies for my ignorance. -
Index In A Mysql Database Make the numbers follow
mrdee posted a topic in Websites and Web Designing
I hope I am on topic here (It does have to do with web design, after all).I have noticed that in a MySQL database, the 'id' field just keeps its numbers for every record, with the backdraw that, whenever you remove (a) record(s) from the table, you get your list numbered as eg. 1,5,6,7,12,25 etc. This makes it a bit difficult of keeping track of the number of records in your table. Is there a way of achieving (either in PHPMyAdmin or through the use of PHP) that the id field in your table gets sort of 'refreshed and updated' so you have a clearer view on the number of records in your database? What I mean is, imagine the highest number in your 'id' field is 221, that does not necessarily mean you have 221 records in your table, as some records may have been removed. So, if anyone can help, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance. -
How Many Times Was The File Taken? Counting downloads
mrdee replied to mrdee's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Thank you so much for posting this. I will definitely check this out.Does it also work for links that have to be right clicked? The file in question on my web site is a small .txt file, and people have to right click and select "save as".Please also bear in mind that I am not a PHP expert, I am going through the rigorous process of learning it.But thanks ever so much for the link anyway. -
I was wondering if someone could help me with the following:On my website there is a small file which can be downloaded.I would like to be able to monitor how many times it has been downloaded, the result does not need to appear on the site, it is just for me personally.Has anyone got some code in HTML or PHP which can achieve that? Thanks in advance.

Im Looking For A Particular Self Defence "weapon", Can Anyone Help?
mrdee replied to shadowx's topic in Health & Fitness
True again, Vixen_Poetic, as you said: In the film 'Game of death' for example, it took Bruce lee about 4 hours to record the scene where he fights Danny Innosanto with nunchakus (a scene which lasts 3.5 minutes). You can hardly say Bruce Lee was not a master in unarmed or armed combat, can you? Well, in the deleted scenes that have been added to a second DVD with the film 'Game of Death', it shows scenes from the recording and making of that particular fight sequence, and on one occasion Bruce Lee gets hit on the head by his own nunchaku while he is swinging it. So, even the great masters do not have 100 5 control over their weapons all the time. Therefore, it is always advisable, if you want to use weapons effectively (and let's not forget, some weapons, like nunchakus, are forbidden by law), learn to use them properly first, if not, leave their use to the experts. (Although, as both Vixen_Poetic and I pointed out, even they can have accidents). -
Martial Arts Of Noobs which one should i do?
mrdee replied to headstrongbrian's topic in Health & Fitness
That is it, vixen, as you say in your first sentence: As I mentioned in a different post somewhere in this topic: the problem is often, when you want to take up or continue martial art x, y or z, a) to find a club near enough to you offering that particular one and a club which offers the martial art you want, but one which you can afford. I, for one, was never very keen on karate, I always felt more for Chinese martial arts (I used to do Tai Chi for a number of years), kick boxing and army style self defence. However, when I wanted to take up martial arts again, either the clubs where you could do Tai Chi or kick boxing were too far to travel to (considering training is usually in the evenings) or far too expensive (I found there is a Krav Maga club right in my own town, but you practically have to have won the lottery to become a member). Having said all that, now that I have done karate for a few years, and now I am progressing well, I must admit I really do enjoy the sport. So, give whatever you can find a try, it might turn out much better than you had expected. Also, do not be happy with just leaning a few techniques, do try to choose a club with a teacher who shows you everything a to z. -
Of course I only got on to the Spanish site because the posted hyperlink was wrong.

Hi, at the moment I am running a test to offer visitors to my web site a free email address via zzz.com (ZZN Free Email). This seems to work, however (the reason why I am asking here is because I cannot find satisfactory answers in their FAQs and support does not seem to get back to me), although it is advertised on their web site that you can receive your email in your email client rather than as webmail, it does not deem to work. I got in touch with support to ask if that was a service restricted to paid users only (nothing about that mentioned on their web site anywhere), but as I said, there was no reply. They do tell you how to set your email client up, you have to use 'apop.zzn.com' as incoming server, and your zzn.com email address as username, and your usual zzn password. I tried this in my email client (Barca 2), but there I keep getting a 'Socket error 10053' or the message 'Connection closed gracefully'.. I tried Outlook Express as well and, funnily enough, although I set my usual trap 17 email server as SMTP server, it sent (and sent successfully) through the apop smtp server, however, it would not receive email on the zzn address. The message I got from Outlook Express was: 'Your password is being rejected@, and 'Server message: POP3 access is restricted for this member', but, if that is the case, why is it sending through their smtp server, and sending even though I did not set apop.zzn.com as smtp server? I think the least they could do is clearly state if the POP3 access is restricted to paying members, and it would also be nice if they returned your questions for help from their support department. However, coming back to my original question: could the fault be my end, or is it what I am suspecting?

Is it possible the Quois web site is entirely in Spanish?

I must agree with Inhuman here. For medicinal purposes (ie. prescribed by a doctor) I agree, after all, morphine and cocaine are also used in hospitals, where it happens under medical supervision, where they use the proper substance without God knows what added to it and where they use the non-addictive kind.As for pure 100% unconditional legalisation, it would have to be a strong 'NO!' for me as well.People sometimes argue: if it became legal, that would take a lot of crime off the streets, as drug dealers would no longer be able to offer it, as people would be able to buy it over the counter much cheaper, WRONG! They will most probably adjust what they charge and sell cannabis of even worse quality than before. Or they will just start pushing different drugs then, even more dangerous ones.Someone also argued, if cannabis were available over the counter, people would be able to buy decent quality stuff from the chemist or coffeeshop or wherever, maybe so, but then the dealers will find something which will make their stuff more attractive to the prospective buyer. As for the substance itself, recent research has shown that smoking cannbis is even about 80% more dangerous than smoking cigarettes. Also, all alcoholics started with 'having the odd glass of beer', how many cannabis users have not moved on to hard drugs after using weed for a while?(So much for the claim about cannabis not being addictive, even if it is not, after a while, when the body gets used to it, some users will want something stronger).I think it is best left alone, and put to good use under medical supervision, some MS patients seem to have benefited from the use of cannabis, or elderly people with very painful rheumatism or arthritis, in that case it may be treated as an ordinary painkiller as far as I am concerned, but only on prescription and under medical supervision.

Death It will come to all, but you needent fear
mrdee replied to emilycrutcher's topic in Health & Fitness
It is obviously a very difficult subject, for the simple reason that most of the things that come with death are unknown to us. Also, it depends from which point of view you look at it, do you see death from a Christian (or religious in brief), atheist or scientific point of view? The bible and the Qu'ran speak about life after death (probably all Holy books do), but even the scientists have come forward with lots of theories, one being that, after we are dead, even when our body has decomposed or we have been cremated, our molecules and atoms stay hanging in the air. Now, according to science, molecules and atoms are not dead material, are they? So, from a scientific point of view, you could claim that when we die, there is still something of us around. As for the statements that religions and Holy books make, maybe the Holy books that have been written should not be taken literally, but they often bring their point across in a symbolic and/or cryptic way. In other words, there might just be something in their claims about life after death, the writers of the books at the time were not completely stupid, and some of the things written there have (obviously long after they were written, when scientists and theologists began to do deeper research in the matter, ie. after they stopped fearing damnation if they did not blindly believe and accept what was witten in the books, the power of religion et al.) proven to have real scientific value. So, like, years ago, in the Roman Catholic church, cremations were forbidden, these days they are allowed, provided you do not have yourself cremated in order to deny eternal life (which is why many atheists want to be cremated). But, even if you do have a cremation when you leave this earth, I do not think you are going to escape what lies ahead hereafter (I am not going to start an argument here whether that is eternal life in heaven or hell, re-incarnation, or whatever your atoms do when they are freely roaming the air, I just mean, WHATEVER happens after death). The thing is, so much is still unknown to us, and humanity has always proven to have a certain fear of the unknown. However, coming back to my earlier point, something still happens to you after you have gone, maybe a matter for the scientists, but if there are people on here who have a better understanding of those scientific matters, well, do not hesitate to enlighten us. A final point I want to make is: there have in the past been certain events involving people who had already departed (call it ghosts, apparitions, or whatever) thar have seemed very real, and for which an explanation (a logical one anyway) was never found, and which were impossible to deny, that it does make you wonder what is really waiting round the corner. -
It does help though, and not only for people with sinusitis. If you manage to sort of sniff a little bit of luke warm salty water, through osmosis it will strengthen your nasal passages, clear out the mucus and improve the air flow altogether. You will end up breathing much better than you have ever done, and have no more nasal congestion at all. I remember, when I had my nose operation a few months ago (after I had broken my nose, they had to correct my septum), I was given a spray called Sterimar, which is nothing but sea water. But, my goodness, does it make a difference. Also, instead of spending a lot of money on nose drops when you have a cold, just use salty water instead, you will see how it will clean and unblock the nasal passage. (Many commercial nose drops are just that anyway: water with salt added to it).

I think the site looks nice and tidy, not overloaded with flashy stuf, it is also easily accessible and user friendly. However, one thing bothers me a little bit: I think it looks a bit messy the way you put that small table on the homepage, the one which gives your name, location and age. A pity it looks like it is squashed inside the main body of the text. Maybe you could try having it centrally underneath the main body, above the copyright notice, or maybe underneath your picture, above or below the square that tells you the date the site was created and last updated, or why not put all that information into one table underneath your picture? Apart from that, a good effort.

That is exactly the thing, as I read in quite a few posts here. Bluebear, for example, is very lucky, OK, eating healthily is half of the job done, but without exercising (even if it were only walking regularly), it is very likely that, with getting older, the metabolism will change, and the pounds will come on inevitably. After all, it is a golden rule: No exercise, eating anything you like= increasing weight. No exercise, eating healthily or dieting= small weight loss exercise+ dieting= big weight loss exercise, eating anything you like= keeping the weight equal You do not really have to play footbaal or run a marathon or lift weights for 10 hours every day (of course, if that is what you want, feel free to do so), but as long as you walk or cycle regularly, you are very likely to keep your weight on the same level, and if you do a bit of dieting on top of that, you are guaranteed to lose weight in the process.

Im Looking For A Particular Self Defence "weapon", Can Anyone Help?
mrdee replied to shadowx's topic in Health & Fitness
As someone said earlier, "No martial art weapon is meant to be handled by a person with no proper Martial Art training.", well, while this is very true (and I could even go further and say that about any weapon at all, there are a few things you can use to serve as weapons for tricky situations. One thing to do is to simply keep something in your clenched fist (eg. a lighter or something), you will be surprised how much harder and more effective your punches will be.A second thing you can safely carry is a set of darts. If I am not mistaken you are from the UK (like me), so, if the police stop (and maybe search) you, you usually will not have any trouble if they find the darts on you. After all, how many people aren't there in Britain who go to the pub on a Saturday night (and often other nights too) and specifically go to the pub to have their game of darts? Now, as for using them, well, they can be used as you would use them on a dart board, ie. for throwing, making it a very suitable long distance weapon, but at short range a dart can also be used to poke/prick or even scratch somebody with. Another thing frequently used in a pub is a pool cue, maybe not as handy to carry arouns, and usually sits in a case in two pieces and has to be assembled before use, but it could serve (even half of the cue) as a weapon. Another very effective thing is a piece of rubber gas pipe, you know, the ones they use to connect a cilinder to a gas cooker or a caravan, or to connect a gas stove (although I think the latter is not allowed anymore and it has to be all metal now), but it is still a handy thing to have. It is flexible, so you can roll it up or fold it and put it inside your jacket, and when used as a weapon, if you hit a bloke with it, he definitely will not ask for a second one. This kind of weapon is also effective for short range and mid range. (Less for long range, as, if you take a piece that is too long, it becomes clumsy to handle). Another one we must not forget is the good old trusty key ring, which about everyone carries in their pocket these days. Very suitable for short range, just embed the keys between your fingers, and, take it from me, your assailant will not get away with very good memories if you are fast enough to hit him/her first. It is, of course, always handier not to get into any fights at all, but, then again, with all the scum that roams the streets these days, that is not a certainty anymore, whether day or nighttime. Always better to get away from a/a number of mugger(s) if you can, all the above only to be used as a last resort if you really have no choice. But, if yopu can, avoid dark alleys, dark places with no one around and the likes. If you do get attacked, try to run, or to get to a place that is well lit and where there are quite a few people about. Also, if you have to fight, do try to rely on your own body as well, ie. good old kicks, punches, head butts and the likes, all this in case you are totally unarmed or if there is no need to resort to the use of weapons. (Eg. when your attacker is unarmed). So, as yopu can see, there are quite a few possibilities, and should you need further explanations, I am always willing to give you further advice.Good luck. -
OK then, here we go. First of all, it would be interesting to know how old your friend is (helps to give an even better opinion). However, from what I have heard (recording quality was not that great, I must say), there is definitely something there, but it is going to take commitment and practice to improve things (which is certainly not going to be impossible). First of all i would recommend some vocalising exercises (singing notes on different syllables) to train both intonation and ear. Also, some breathing exercises would not go amiss (if required, I can supply more specific details about this, and which particular exercises to do and how to do them). Some work is also needed on the development of the strength of the voice (at the moment, the sound is a bit on the weak side, but that could also have something to do with the quality of the recording). Then, remember, the key word here is regularity, ie. practice evrey day without fail. If you have a bit less time on certain days, then do a bit less, but do practice nevertheless. Another tip: it is better to practice 3 times 10 minutes than once for half an hour. Do spread your practice out over the day as much as you can. Also practice singing with dynamics, they are the soul of music, do not make your singing sound monotonous and monovolumic. I always compare music to a picture in that respect, when you play or sing a piece of music as it is, you have a black and white picture, but when you add dynamics to your music, that is when you add the colour. Diction needs to be worked on too (always extremely important if singing is to be done properly). After all, a singer wants his/her audience to understand him/her, wouldn't you agree? I know, it is a whole list, but that is singing for you, singing includes so many aspects, so many things to think of all at once that you have no choice than to practice all those bits bit by bit and then string them together. There you go, that's a start. I am always willing to help out further. Good luck.

Tell Me What You Think this is sexymamas website
mrdee replied to Tsunami's topic in Websites and Web Designing
What happened to the site? Wgere did it go to?I clicked on your link which you had posted at the beginning of this thread, but Firefox keeps telling me the server cannot be found.Could you check things out, please?I would like to have a look and (if I can) add some opinions/advice. -
I went and had a look on the web site you mentioned, and to be quite honest, I find it quite crappy. The whole layout is a mess, no clear links, images missing, the information scattered all over the place, no mention of a contact address, only a phone number and an email address, it does not even say where the club is based, except it is somewhere in the South East (where I live too).If they wish to attract new members they are going to have to do a lot better than this IMHO.Also, they seem to be asking for instructors, don't they train their own members then?In my club, when you get up to black belt, and you do your Nidan (2nd Dan) exam, you then also get an interwiev about teaching abilities as part of the exam, and that is when you can become an instructor yourself. So, my club (TISKA) has no need to advertise for instructors to come and join them, as their instructors are groomed within the club itself.

What Is The Martial Art Called Where.. you fight with a stick?
mrdee replied to Northman's topic in Health & Fitness
Even an expert like Bruce Lee needed a lot of retakes to get the nunchaku scene in 'Game of death' right, a scene that only lasted for one and a half minute. This is explained in the extra features with the film and in a biography of Bruce Lee. You can see in the footage that even he got hit on the head by his own nunchaku and then he went wrong a couple of times and started laughing, so they had to do quite a bit of extra filming. As for the fighting with two separate sticks which salamangkero mentions, that occurs in the same film, by the way, that is done in the Fillipine style Escrima, so it does exist as a martial art in its own right. As for Kendo, someone mentioned a Bo in another post, a Bo is just a straight bamboo stick, while Kendo uses a bamboo sword called a Shinai. Some more explanation about the Shinai can be found here as well as a kind of 'anatomy' of the weapon. -
My Site's Ip Address Finding out my numerical IP address
mrdee replied to mrdee's topic in Web Hosting Support
Hei, yes, interesting. The reason I am asking is because I want to start an internet radio broadcast on my site. However, I would be using my PC as the server for the broadcasts, and the IP that I get from my ISP is a dynamic one (ie. it changes every day or so).Since I have to send listeners to the broadcast by clicking a link which contains an IP address, I would probably have to change that link all the time then. That is the reason why I was looking for a way to send them to a place with a static IP address. -
My Site's Ip Address Finding out my numerical IP address
mrdee replied to mrdee's topic in Web Hosting Support
Yes, Jim, I DID update my DNS servers. However, (I just found that out), through doing a 'whois' on my domain name, I came to the result of '64.69.46.210' being my IP address. Is that possible? -
My Site's Ip Address Finding out my numerical IP address
mrdee posted a topic in Web Hosting Support
Hi, I was wondering how I can find the numerical IP address of my site. I have my site hosted at Trap 17, but instead of a subdomain i use my own (parked) domain name. Can anyone tell me how I can find the address of my web site in the shape of 81.200.30.55 (this is just a random example) instead of in the shape of http://www.vlaanderen-flanders.org.uk/? Thanks for any advice. -
Thanks for your help. That did the trick.

Thank you for your reply, truefusion. However, doing it your way removes the special capital at the beginning of the title, which is exactly what I would like to keep.
