  1. LOLOLOL! Whether I'm a pain or are a gain might be a subject for great debate. Honestly, I am not like ANYBODY here. The forum seems to be made up mostly of younger computer savvy folks. Since I'm older (yes, ok there are a few other old folks, just not that many) and totally non computerized I feel like I'm alone in a crowd here. I'm sure there's not another dog breeder here, and probably not even another farmer. So fitting in is not easy, nor is it easy for me to make posts when so many of the existing posts are in reference to computer stuff. On the bright side, while there aren't any actual dog breeders here, nearly everyone has a dog. So if anybody has a doggie question, I can nearly always be helpful there. So if the subject ever gets off computers, and gets into gardening, goats, horses, cattle, or even maybe chickens, I can hopefully make useful contributions. A little diversity would be great now wouldn't it? Believe it or not, computers aren't the only thing in the world! And they say with age comes wisdom, so hopefully I can contribute when life throws you young 'uns a curve ball with the voise of age and reason since even though I'm old, I can still remember being a young whipper snapper.
  2. All good ideas, but you do contridict yourself a little. You say takes too much time going threw the existing posts, (of which I agree, it really does take forever) and to start new threads, but you also say to reply to posts to get a good thread going. I'm never very impressed with posts that somebody made up basing their information on wikipedia. Ususally, if I want to study a subject, I just google it, and check out the numberous web sites that come up. Random information on subjects I may not give a flying flip about isn't going to get me to adding replys. And if you just type up information, what is there to reply to unless you want to refute the information? I personally like topics that are more or less based on opinions, like what do you think about..... so that an actual discusion may take place rather than read a post that is more like listening to a teacher in school. More fun that way.
  3. Wow, how do you figure that? Just curious. Yes, she is without a doubt very religious, and what I suppose you could call a conservative. But golly gee, don't we need some conservatives to balance out the nut cases on the far left???? (or far right, whichever nut jobs you prefer) Watched it again this past sunday, they were on a commercial fishing ship, and they have to club the fish when they pull it on the boat so it doesn't flop around and bruise up it's own meat. I suspect the animal rights people will be screaming over that one now.
  4. Weird! I actually like Hotmail. Or I did until this recent change where all the messages from one person are lumped together, and the only problem with that is if I have already sent them a reply, and forgot to tell them something, if I click on it again, I send the message to myself. Haven't figured out how to avoid that one yet, other than deleting my address and copy/pasting theirs in place of it, providing I can find it somewhere in the body of the email message. I have the original hotmail account I started with 10 or 11 years ago. I did also start the paid part, it's like $20 a year or less. I have a ton of emails in it, and no commercials. More than enough space.
  5. Sure you can. Your Boss has already warned you twice. You best get to using that spell checker!!!It really doesn't matter what your job is, even if a spelling mistake or typo isn't critical to a specific job, it can cause problems. And there are a lot of people that are completely annul about spelling mistakes no matter what the circumstances. If you are writing letters to the public for the company, it will make them look bad in the eyes of their customers. And if you are posting here like I am and not being a really good speller, people will just think your a dumb hillbilly and will not have a high opinion of you.
  6. "Some people are on welfare for a reason, such as aspiring artists, actors/actresses and writers" I don't believe this is a valid reason to be on welfare. How many thosands of "aspiring" artists just have this dream of making it to the big time, when in fact, they are talentless hacks and will never amount to anything. That would be like saying it was a persons dream to buy a big winning lottery ticket so they made it to the big time, and we should support them with welfare so they could spend all their money on lottery tickets until they got that big winner. Sure, The Harry Potter author did eventually make it big, but how many people ever really make it to the top? I'd say very few actually do it compared to many thousands of dreamers. As for being on welfare so you have time to write, paint, whatever, if you are truely passionate about writing/painting, you will find the time needed to do it. If you can't, you probably aren't all that serious about it and aren't that good anyway. A person just needs a little inspiration and a lot of ambition. You are unlikely to have much ambition when your sitting around collecting a check for doing nothing.
  7. Without a doubt, that is one heck of a coincidence! I wonder if even the gamblers in Vegas could figure the odds of that one!Neat story!
  8. So, did anybody watch the new Sarah Palin's Alaska show that started last night? I can't believe I changed over from a Harry Potter movie to watch it! I guess I'm getting weird in my old age. Anyway, I thought it was pretty good, sort of a National Geographic/All in the Family type cross. They went salmon fishing, and then later, rock climbing. They got to watch some bears fighting, and the scenic views were really good. Lots of good, practical advice, like stay the heck away from bears when they challenge your for a fishing spot. She also gave a lot of interesting Alaska facts, like it is so big if you explored 600 acres every day it would take you 900 years to explore the whole state. And how there are very few roads in Alaska, nearly everybody gets around by plane. So anyway, today I heard some envornmental group is calling for a boycott of the show. Kind of surprised me, I thought the show was pretty enviornmentally friendly. So what do you all think?
  9. I have no idea what our numbers are here, but it's a small town with virtually no industry, just an Emerson Electric Co. and I've never noticed any toxic fumes coming out of the place. Years ago we had Sentinal Wood treating place, but it was shut down because of chemical polutants used in wood treating. It did stink pretty bad. So I suspect ours is pretty good, only the occasional brush fire blowing up a lot of smoke. Of course, it doesn't help if you have good air to breath and you starve to death cause you can't fine a job to work at.
  10. Most of the the time, just my smokes and lighter. But I love my pockets, I won't buy any clothes (pants or shorts anyway) that don't have pockets. I'm always picking things up that I find that are out of place, and put them in my pockets until I get to where the item is supposed to be so I can put it back where it belongs. Of course, about half the time most of that stuff ends up in a pile on the washing machine, as I forget I have it in my pocket till it's time to do laundry.
  11. Bummer. I'm just dragging back in and now ya'll are leaving! That sucks! I've been too wraped up in fighting Proposition B to find time to post. I hate to see anybody leaving, it's hard enough to get good conversations going, and both of you are good posters.
  12. My vote goes for annoying. The first few times I used it I found it confusing that I was getting results before I even had my query typed all the way in, and it was bring up stuff I wasn't looking for to start with. But on the other hand, if they have their search engine working that fast, I supose it might be a good thing.

    Felony

If the record is expunged, doesn't that mean it's gone, wiped clean? In which case you could do whatever you wanted to do anyway. Besides, as far as I know the only thing you can't do with a record is own a fire arm or in some cases, vote. So getting an education shouldn't be a problem.
  14. Well, I'm certainly not going to call you stupid, because I don't have a clue as to what Indigo is either when applyed to a human anyway. I have heard of the Indigo Girls though, they did a really cool song I liked called "Closer To Fine." Anyway, Maggie, good for you on the not taking drugs. I am not convinced that they help all that much anyway, and odds are if you actually were misdiagnosed, they could really screw you up and possibly destroy your health in some other way. If your happy with yourself, that's cool, more power to you. Who cares what anybody else things anyway?
  15. Unfortunatly, if you pass laws against stupidity, there would be very very few people left out running around. But actually, there are laws against animal cruelty. Lots of them. In many cases, people are punished worse for harming an animal than they are if the harm another human. Then of course, you can get into a major debate over what constitutes cruelty. One that springs to mind is the debate over tethering. (chaining up) There are some that are trying to pass laws to totally ban this. However, on the other side, there are lots of good points. What if there is no other way to contain a dog? If a person cannot afford to build an extensive fencing system, should they be denyed the joy and pleasure of dog ownership? If the dog is tethered in the yard during the day while the family is at work or school, then brough in at night to play with the family, and otherwise enjoy life, why is that wroung? Do we not, as humans have to spend time at things we would rather not do, like being at work all day? Or why is a tether more offensive than a pen or a crate to contain a dog? Either of those seem to be morally acceptable to humans. But they are still forms of containment non the less. I could use the hosting credits, how about a debate?
  16. Wow guy, you really had me going there for awhile, you sounded so sensible and mature and ready to improve your life and evolve, and be a decent human being, and then you just blew it out of the water with that garbage about setting a goal of getting 10 phone numbers. This ain't no game! What would be the purpose of 10 all at once right out of the gate? Wouldn't forcing yourself on that many people be counter productive to your actual goal of getting past your initial fear of starting up a new friendship/relation? If you are making it a game and really pushing yourself to reach and arbitrary goal, you won't be YOURSELF. Your actions and words will be forced, and most people can see right threw a fake, you will be setting yourself up for failure. People aren't going to get to see the REAL you, and that would be a shame, because otherwise, you sound like a really decent person.
  17. This would be my big problem with teaching. I don't think I could even start to stand it. At least in this day and age. 40 years ago, children had respect for teacher and parents and basicly any adults in charge of the given situation. They knew they attended school to learn and get an education so they could better themselves. It was important to learn what the teachers instructed them in. But todays children are a completely different animal. They have been the center of "importance" for their entire upbringing, allowed to have exactly their own way however and when ever they want. Nobody is allowed to correct them, or do anything to negatively affect them. And we as adults cater to them, passing children threw the grades in school when they should of failed, because we didn't want to damage their precious little egos. Forget that they are being promoted for failing to do what is required of them and teaching them that they aren't expected to do what is required of them if they don't want to. No reward for working, just handed out promotion for nothing. Seems to me it's just like setting up a generation to be welfare bums. Why work when you can get paid for nothing? Or even if they join the work force, just how good of employees will they make? Will they understand that they have a responsibility to fullfill? Heck, now a days, even if they start their own business, if it fails, they can expect the government to come and bail them out. No personal responsibility what so ever. The entire situation is quite depressing.
  18. Mercy Sakes! I have enough trouble remembering how many years old I am, if I had to change the number every month I'd never keep track. Fortunatly my old brain remembers the year I was born, so if I can't remember the exact age in years, I can just count it up right quick. If I had to figure it to the month I'd have to also remember what month is is, and how many months since my birth month and since math is not my strong point, I'd be hopelessly confused in nothing flat.

    Excell Help

COOL. At least I got that fixed! I seldom print this, I just use it on the computer, I nearly always have it open in my system tray (isn't that what the row is caled across the bottom of my computer screeen?) It would just be easier if I didn't have to look at all the blank colums, or the A B C's or header taking up the numbers. ( I do occasionally print it out, in case of computer crash, or power failure, just to have it handy) My own version is 2000, so your's isn't so old after all. And now I have discovered something else, I don't seem to be able to drag lines up or down. I need to be able to delete lines when pups are sold, and then drag up the others to avoid blank rows.
  20. Gosh no, I have't ever met a dog that was that dumb! At least if you are refering to a single command, or word like their name. Now, teaching a behaviour like not pooping in the house may take awhile, but not names and things like sit or shake hands.

    Excell Help

Thanks. I read threw it all, so I am begining to think I can't do what I want in Excell. I highlight and delete colums and they just pop right back in. I was hoping to replace the A B C'S with my own headers. If I put my headers in one of the rows, that throws the numbers off, I want to see at a glance how many litters I have. And it won't let me enter dates the way I want them. I want 2/2 not 2 Feb. Arrrrgh. I wish I could get past this.
  22. There is absolutly nothing that annoys me more than calling for tech support, or to book a puppy flight, or see about a bill or what ever, and get someone who barely speaks english that I have to constantly ask them to repeat themselves, and then I still can't figure out what the heck they are saying. So, my opinion on this subject is NO!
  23. One more you want to add to your list of 6.7. Be firm. This is probably more important with some breeds than others, but still important. If you tell the dog to do something, you must make sure he actually does it. Letting a dog get away with not following your commands will make proper training nearly impossible. Never let your dog get away with bad behaviour.
  24. NO.I cannot stop being political. Not about this issue. I don't think you understand, this bill will DESTROY MY LIFE!!! Every thing I have done and worked for for over 30 years would be flushed down the toliet. So just how would you expect me not to be political???? Wow, second at Crufts, that is one heck of an accomplishment! And agility and conformation is really amazing too. not something you see very often. That takes one heck of a dog. (Despite what anwii says. I think he must just be having a bad day) I guess you learn something every day, didn't even know Skips came in cream color, I've only seen black. My dad had some Skips before he passed away. I worked with them for about a year, and he finally sold them. I always thought they were pretty little dogs, but wound too tight for my tastes. I like a dog that will occasionally stop moving, and actually listen to me. I'm sure training one would be quite a challange. Thanks for the link. I have a special fasination with rare breeds and like to study them. I will definatly do some reading on that.
  25. Too many mycents????? NO way! I post and post and can barely get enough to be worth the time and effort. But, yes, without a doubt this forum has gotten really slow. I posted several hours ago needing some help with Excell, and still don't even have one reply. Normally I'd have several by now. We all have busy spells, I am sometimes gone a few days, maybe a week at a time, but not longer than that. With me it just can't be helped, the dogs always have to come first, no matter what. But lately, it hasn't done any good to come in much more often than that, as there aren't enough new posts to really worry about or try to reply too. Coming in every day almost is a waste of time, with as slow as the board has been loading for me to check to see if there are any new posts in the various different subjects. I do wish things would pick up.And if somebody can help me with Excell, I'd sure be pleased as punch. See my post under databases.
