  1. Welcome to the Xisto community. I hope to see you around so I can get to know you better.
  2. Putin is not out of line. The US (army admin) is out of line. Permission or not they should not be allowed to build weapons where they so please. Russia and the US both stepped down in the arms race; there was a move to disarm. I can't remember the specifics but a few years back the US agreed it would disarm and revolve x amount of missiles if Russia disarmed x amount, and they both agreed. So why is the US rearming? Because of Iran? Korea? Nope, those missiles are not meant for the armaments which these countries have. The US is planning something; just like they planned to invade Iraq when they attacked Afghanistan. Yes, their threats should be taken seriously. Every country has a right to protect itself especially if it feels threatened. Add to that the Russia-US history and you definitely should take it seriously. No they shouldn't continue as planned. Not because Russia said no but because they have yet to legitimately validate their need for the installation. They claim it is for Iraq or Korea but as stated the equipment does not fit the bill. This is the same organization that fraudulently attacked Iraq. Our lesson should be learned; until they validate it they shall not move forward. I disagree. It is very different. It is different from the missile defenses the US has in northern Canada (and those are in attack range of Russia). Russia agreed to stay out of Europe and allow x amount of US defense systems around them; this has been fulfilled by both sides. You have to think of it this way: building/expanding is a mentality of moving forward. For the US to build yet another installation, in addition to the ones already there (not replacing or upgrading an older one), they are being even in the slightest sense aggressive. Maybe not towards Russia but aggressive nonetheless. How do you think the US would respond if Russia built missile systems in Kazakhstan? They would take that as a step of aggression. 1 - Every country wants to be powerful. It's just that the US is a bit of a bully it that respect. Seriously, there is nothing wrong with being the world's peacekeepers (although really that's Canada's nickname) but you can't go around saying you're not allowed to do this and you have to do this because I said so. And before you deny such a mentality you should think about it honestly. 2 - Russians are not ruthless. With all due respect that's bias talking. I don't know why Americans view communism as 100% evil, I suppose it's how you're taught, but communism just like democracy is an ideology. Communism is not inherently evil. It is an administrative tool. I'll quote again You just described the US mentality during the better part of the twentieth century. Canada, your peaceful and democratic neighbours was "suspicion" of being communist and so we were almost enemies. Now tell me that isn't stupid. 3 - Russia will not try to invade Europe. As much as military strategist would entertain the idea, they know their economy can not handle such a bold excursion. And yes, they might be worried the US is planning on invading them, but they should not have to. The US has no right to invade Russia.
  3. Sounds interesting but let's be foolish about it. No signal out means bo cellphone inside the house either... And what about the windows? Wouldn't the signal escape through the windows? "Honey, buy some lead shutters to match the paint!" Boy would I hate to live in there. For that you might as well line the exterior walls with mirrors and boost your signal inside the house. Now that's functionality!
  4. Try this:Go to "Tools" > "Options" > "Advanced" tab (last tab) > under "Languages" select "Choose" > select "english"Hopefully your problem is that simple to fix.
  5. Hi Lisa and welcome to Xisto.Your artwork sounds cool and it's awesome that you have a website to showcase it. I'm slowly working towards having my own site for my artwork, blogs, yada yada, you know anything about me (and being Renaissance means it's a lot!)
  6. What was that quote? "Of all the enemies I faced, ignorance is the slowest to die"? I alwaye like to point out that we're still discovering new life on our own planet let alone the universe. Like that cave discovery where they found new species of amphibians. Researchers say that we have yet to explore 80%(?) of our oceans. We have a lot of exploring to do before we can claim a monopoly of knowledge.
  7. True, but that's the point right? For all we know we are the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd most advanced, or perhaps the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd least advanced. Let's do this by hypothetical scenario. If there were 10 different races in the universe and given the age of the universe (to our knowledge at least) what would the chances be that any of them were born at the same time. Very slim. If we were to give each race a similar curve of advancement than there would inevitably be a race with an edge on advancement. Now given that human is one of the 10 races what are the chances that we are the most advanced? 10% by highly simplified reasoning. Basically it's ignorant to be closed-minded
  8. I forget where I read it but researchers can account something like 85% (don't quote me on that) of UFO sightings in the US to military aircraft and weather balloons. There is an explanation for everything, and it would be a bit ignorant to believe that we are alone in the universe.
  9. I'm not a big fan of either team but I expect Anaheim to win. I actually picked Anaheim to make the finals a few rounds ago. They may not be immediately great but I noticed they have a knack for adjusting their game according to who they're playing and how. Ottawa has done so also but not so well. The Ottawa - Buffalo series appears to have been taxing on them; they can play a good physical game but it appears they over extended their abilities.Game 3 will be the true test. Anaheim won't have last change and so Ottawa will have a chance to decide the matchups. If Anaheim wins game 3 I'm pretty sure they'll sweep Ottawa.
  10. Besides the obvious "food makes you go" speech here is one you should consider: When you habitually starve yourself your body builds up fat (Link). When you starve yourself for periods of time your body realizes that it's next injection of fuel may be farther off than usual and therfore stores the fat to be used as energy later on. The human body is highly adaptable; it's why people can train their body to wake up at a certain time or even go to the bathroom on routine. So really it's no surprise that your body would adapt to being starved.
  11. This guy deserves whatever they hand to him. This reminds me of a few years back where a spammer got cornered in an internet cafe and tried to swallow the evidence (a USB thumbdrive)! I believe he got fined a large amount and had to do some community service thing. The difference is that he didn't commit identity theft.I'd like to go back in time and slap the people who invented/started internet spam but I know that A.) it's physically impossible and B.) someone else would have done it eventually anyways.

    Hi Guys.

Welcome to Xisto! The free hosting is great but the real jem is the community.
  13. I have a few cars close to my heart but I have to say that the 1971 Dodge Charger Daytona is my favourite.VROOM! With a whole lot of room... parking spaces are an issue though
  14. If outlook still doesn't work for you try Mozilla's Thunderbird. It supports extensions like spellcheck, calendar, weather, yada yada.
  15. Fair enough. I know it's not evil to make money but it is evil to profit from the discomfort of a human being.
  16. Normally I'd just ignore this post but not today. They are also one of the most advanced countries in the world. Add to that a large population and it is logistical mathematics. Correction: it is a highly popular view that they went to Iraq for oil. Even if this was true, and it may be, it was the government and not the people. Remember, the American population was lied to just like the rest of the world. Some say Bush Jr was just "tidying up his daddy's dirty work". Don't know the history of those sports but just because they're similar doesn't mean they're stolen. That comment itself is racist... The correct term is that they still treat members of visible minorities like dirt... Even so, there are countires that still block women's political and even basic rights. And you apparently think you're better than Americans; everyone is entitled to their opinions. Just like a fair amount of Americans claim Canadians think they're better than Americans. Truth is no one is better, just better off, and even then it depends on your prespective. And no, I'm not American, I'm Canadian. Yes, I do have some disgruntlements with the American institutions but I do not hold that against the American people.
  17. I hope I'm not included with the others seeing as I stated a company/corporation as well as giving forth some "not so evil" but enlightening facts Total agreement here. To take your example one step further, it would make more sense to call IBM evil since the Nazis were using IBM computers to organzive their efforts of the holocaust. Read this.
  18. Maybe it's just me being optimistic but that sig can be saved.Just bring the render forward, increase the opacity of the blur effects, and invert the text with a dark brown outline.
  19. A very good list indeed but I noticed no one mentioned "dxdiag"dxdiag stands for DirectX Diagnostic. The DirectX utility can be used to show a computer's hardware specs as well as test DirectX software such as sound and video. A very good troubleshooting utility.
  20. You can also try the SC Disk Info Utility which is 100% free. Quote from the webpage: It's really helpful for tracking down bloated or forgotten folders. As for RAM usage you can try using MSConfig. Here is a tutorial on How to Use MSConfig
  21. Another alternative to OpenOffice is AbiSuite. It has some minor formatting issues but it is compatible with .doc files and is much like MSWord as is OpenOffice; one thing is that you can also install AbiWord which is a standalone word processor so you don't need to install the full suite (I'm not sure if you can do this with OpenOffice)
  22. I will reiterate; it was a false positive - Maybe the thread title should be updated... I can not agree more. Remember the whole Mike Rowe lawsuit? Not that it was impeccable or anything, but that seriously hurt their credibilty. I swear Microsoft would sue a 9 year old if it came down to it.
  23. Whoops! Sorry about that. That may be what I'm thinking about but I'll give another go at searching for the right article.
  24. I agree with the mail car thing. One thing to note.In my international business class we discussed the government banning the sale and/or use of SUVs in the city. The obvious and deciding factor is that the government does not have the right to shift the market. It is one thing to ban cars, but to ban SUVs gives the companies in the smaller car market an "unfair advantage". I know it sounds dumb that the government can't "discriminate" in such a case, but it is part of a "good with the bad"...
  25. I disagree on the V8 and agree with the SUVs.I do however, think it's important to note that above everything else, driving style is what matters in terms of fuel consumption. True, a hybrid is more efficient than a conventional engine, and an alternative fuel tops the hybrid, but there are other factors beyond engine type and size. A properly tuned V8 can be more fuel efficient than a factory tuned engine of a lesser size.Let's start with SUVs. SUVs are reasonably used in areas where they are needed. Unfortunately, they have also become another "latest trend". If you live on a mountain buy an SUV, if you live in the desert buy an SUV, if you live in suburbia buy a car! I'm sick of these downtown corporate dorks who drive their Escalades ten blocks to and from work. SUVs are not bad cars, it's the people who misuse them who are the bad link.As much as I agree that SUVs are superfluous, I disagree with phasing out V8s. Singling out V8s is wrong. There are examples of low emission V8s such as Mustang's Alcohol engine. True, alcohol is not a viable technology but it is just one of the strides in such a direction. Consider this: if suddenly tomorrow there were no engines bigger than Honda's hybrid. What would happen to all the trucks we depend on? What would the police cars and ambulances have? What would be used for the heavier usage such as towing?
