1. 1. There are possibilities that you may contract a virus in your external hard drive. The virus could start out in your main drive, C, and, when you plug your USB cable in (which is how you connect your external HD to your computer), the virus could spread. Also, I would not recommend plugging your external HD to your computer while you're connected to the Internet because hackers could compromise your computer and explore your ENTIRE computer (happened to me once - the mouse cursor moved by itself, and words appeared on the screen). Only connect your external HD to your computer when you're offline to be absolutely sure that that drive will stay clean. 2. Formatting your computer should get rid of everything - files, worms, virus, etc. If you're planning to reinstall Windows from a boot disc, you're safe. However, if your computer came with a backup folder that contains all the initial files that will be installed in the reformatting process, then you may have to check for viruses in that folder before formatting your computer, or else you'll start out fresh (after formatting) with a virus, which you probably do not want. Also, you did not ask for this, but I'm going to recommend some essential programs for you to think about installing after you format. These program are not free, but are definately more superior to Norton-the-resource-hog. The first program is called Kaspersky Antivirus Personal. It's ranked as the best antivirus with a 99% detection rate. The next program is called Outpost Pro. Outpost Pro is, in my opinion, the best firewall on the market today. Some people did various leak tests on Outpost Pro and many other brand name firewalls such as ZoneAlarm, Norton Personal Firewall, and BlackIce, and they found out that Outpost Pro blocks almost all of their tests. The latest version of Outpost Pro guarantees to block ALL their tests. Here is the link if you wanna check it out: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. As always, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to PM me of post a reply Edit: Made the link about Outpost Pro and Kaspersky clickable.

3. Hmm, did you park your domain in your cpanel? Look for a Parked Domain link in your cPanel, and enter in the name of your domain there, and see if that works.

Hackers and people who want to avoid proxies use it. It generally works extremely well if you want people to NOT know what you're talking about...like right now. Other than that, I completely agree with you. Phrases like "lol" or "omg" is totally ruining the minds of young minds because it does not make them think before typing, instead, it just makes them dull and boring because the phrases are so generic. On the other hand, people who pretends to be cool by typing "liek omg111!!1one" is also very annoying. i don't know, that's just what i think In case you're wondering, I did not type all that up by hand - I used my text-to-1337 program. I was going to point this out, but you beat me to it When one use those words (I did at some point), other people generally look down on that person as someone with a very low vocabulary (no offense), and it gives off a very bad impression as no one here knows who you really are. Edit: Added the brandice quote.

6. Zwei - Whoops. Should have been more specific. I meant PM one of them because that's probably the only way you can make sure they'll see your idea - they're busy as it is already. Edit: Corrected a typo
7. Okay, forget what I said before left-side navigations. I just saw a post here at Xisto that might make you change your mind. If you're looking to have the first spot on Google, you might want to make your navigation on the right because search engines usually take in the first 100 words of your site, and if you use those words for a menu, then your content won't get indexed...I don't know read this: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/5151-8-easy-ways-to-optimize-your-website-as-easy-as-it-istry-it-now/. Be sure to look at number 3. I might just change my own site after reading that
8. These steps are not very descriptive because I don't know where you registered your domain name. First, you have to go to where ever you registered you domain name. Log in, and find some sort of control panel. Find a place to enter name servers (there sh ould be two text boxes). Type in ns1.trap17.com and ns2.trap17.com in both boxes. Now, go to your cPanel on your current site. It should be yoursite.trap17.com/cpanel where "yoursite" is your subdomain name hosted at Xisto. Now, find Parked Domains inside your cPanel and enter in your domain name! It should take one or two days, and you'll be set :)Feel free to ask questions if you get stuck
9. Recently, I decided to make my entire site W3C compliant. That didn't work too well (or else this thread wouldn't be here) because I have flash games on my website. The main purpose of the validator is to ensure that your HTML code will run on any computer on any platform, which it does because I've tested it, but the validator still insists that my code will not work. So I teamed up with Google to help me find a solution. The first result led me to A List Apart who is known for their excellent HTML and CSS tutorials/articles. It turns out that there is a way to make Flash W3C compliant - it's called the Satay Method! Near the end of their article, there is an HTML code, which is the Satay Method: <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash"data="flash.swf" width="400" height="300"><param name="movie" value="flash.swf"></object>I quickly tried this method, and it worked! At first, it seemed like a great idea because 1) it worked 2) less code -> less bandwidth and 3) it will make users update their Flash player if it's outdated, so there is nothing to lose! Everything was great until I got to school to try out the code only to realize it doesn't work on my school's ancient computers. However, my old code worked: <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="400" height="300"> <param name="movie" value="flash.swf"> <param name="quality" value="high"> <embed src="flash.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/special/errorpages/404.html; type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" height="300"></embed> </object>There are also several HTML codes on the Internet that will compile correctly, but those use JavaScript, and some people may disable JavaScript. I want my code to work on all computer which it will not if people disable JavaScript. So I'm asking you. Do you know an HTML code that I could try that will 1) validate correctly and 2) work on all computers? Thanks!
10. This is off-topic, but...umm...midnightangel, are you related to midnightdevil??
11. This thread is very similar to http://forums.xisto.com/index.php?sho417&hl=firewall, but since you're asking about software instead of hardware, I'll let it slide. The best software firewall is Outpost Pro, and I'm not just saying that - I have backup. I found a forum that talked about the best antivirus and firewall. They also did various tests to achieve these results. Relating to firewalls, Outpost Pro was the only one that performed the best in those tests. Check out the tests ( http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and http://www.agnitum.com/index.php ) for yourself. As you can see, Outpost killed the competition. It did not pass some tests, but, according to Outpost, the most recent build of their firewall will pass all those tests. Outpost Pro is, unfortunately, not free. The best free firewall would be Sygate Personal Firewall Free Edition and Kerio Personal Firewall 4, but since you did not ask about the best firewall financially, I voted for Outpost instead.
12. Hope you don't mind my taking your numbering Uno - Hmm, I think modifications actually make Xisto stand out from the rest of the other hosts who use the generic Invision Power Boards. Don't you? Dos - Try contacting one of the admins for your idea...it just might work Tres - What you do on your computer is your business Cuatro - You don't know whether you have a firewall or not?? (kidding)

I appreciate you taking the time to look at this forum from a professional standpoint, and I don't care what you have to say (just keep it clean) because you, and everybody else, have a freedom of speech.

14. You're right. Windows in general is, by far, the most user friendly Operating System ever because of its not-so-steep learning curve. As far as Windows XP is concerned, I have never had a Blue Screen of Death...even on my 300 MHz computer And you can't deny that you don't like its schemes. Windows XP has the "oomph" that most OS's don't, and if you don't like it, you can always change it, and if you don't like those, there are always programs so you can make your own.
15. Ahh yes, the good ole include. It's really easy for PHP, by the way, and I'm someone who have very little knowledge of PHP. To include a file with PHP, simple place the code: <?php include("file.txt"); ?> anywhere in your page. This code assumes that file.txt is in the same directory as the calling page. You can modify this, of course, by using absolute URLs instead of a relative one. The filename, .txt, can be any file name (as far as I'm concerned). Hope that helped!
16. It's not a language The lorem ipsum is just text printed onto a page because, according to psychology, humans don't often read large paragraphs of text. I don't know...read it for yourself here: http://www.lipsum.com/. I like the navigation pane on the left because most sites are like that. Although you could go retro and put it on the right, if that fits your personality, but I prefer my navigation ("my" = "mine and everyone else's") on the left. By the way, will your new layout have commenting enabled? Later.
17. Hmm, is it supposed to redirect to subzer0.trap17.com?The forum...I'd give it an 8. I like the simplicity of it, but some features, in my opinion, are too confusing. First, you can make all links underlined...you know, visibility stuff. Second, you could change the number of seconds at the bottom to 0.00002 instead of 2.0E-5.That's all I could think of now. Anyways, good job!
18. Yep If you want to show , type: <_< ::( ::ph34r:
19. Try to download those programs and see if they can kill your toolbar. Spyboy S&D and be download here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ If that doesn't solve your problem, try downloading Hijack This because it's known to be a great program that can do what all three cannot.
20. Let's see if I can resolve some of these issues. The numerous mods are for time-zone issues. Everyone at this forum are in different parts of the world, and if Xisto recruits moderators from only the US, then there will be no moderators on during day-time in China. Therefore, there will be no moderators to...moderate...the forums during that time (spam will grow). Get my drift? Shoutbox is there to ask a quick question. If we get rid of that, then there will be TONS of short threads laying around in the forums. Ads, although somewhat annoying, cannot be removed. You have to think...this is a free service, so OpaQue gets no money out of this. Therefore, the ads are the only source of revenue to fuel this great idea. If they're gone, all member sites will be gone because Xisto will likely have to close. As for the big blank white box, you probably have a firewall with ad-blocking. The space is for the ads. Your firewall blocks ads. Thus, there is a blank space.

22. As I'm typing this post, I have 140.98. It'll probably go up to 141 after I click "Add Reply"
23. No, no, no, guys. The best firewall isn't ZoneAlarm or ZoneAlarm Pro (even though I once thought this myself), Norton, or Windows SP2. It's what about 2 of the people in this thread mentioned - Outpost Pro. Don't believe me? Check out the post that this guy made: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Also, if you go to two of the websites on that page ( http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and http://www.agnitum.com/index.php ), you quickly realize that ZA and ZA Pro stinks at some of the leak tests that were performed on the firewalls. Only Outpost Pro survived almost all the tests. The newest version, however, should pass all the tests because Agnitum (the company that makes Outpost) claims that their latest build should pass all the tests So go and grab Outpost Pro off the shelves before it's too late! (kidding...but consider using it...I am )
24. If you're talking about skifree, blackjack, and rat maze (I forgot what it's called), then you're wrong Way back when, I decided to upgrade to Windows XP from Windows 98. Before doing so, I backed up everything on Windows 98, including the classic games. Well, when I got Windows XP up and running, I tested all the games that I packed from 98, and everything worked fine!
25. Hmm, I didn't get this the first time I took the test... Woo hoo! Old school! Edit: Oh man, why did they choose such weird colors to put on MPG and Apple DOS 3.1??
