I am quite skeptical about this because the Y2K turned out to be no real problem. I am guessing since there is prior warning the bugs will be fixed and it will be a few minor glitches here and there. I am not worried about it lots of things like this are false alarms.

I really enjoy games like The Sims where I can control the environment and what the people do. Its kind of freaky though how sometimes my own life correlates with that game a little too much. Just like the Sims or any other simulator game I have a certain amount of freedom to do what I want. But every once in a while I feel like I am being forced into circumstances that I can not stand or seemingly have no control over. It sometimes feels like I am being directed what to do. Sometimes I wonder just how much of our lives do we really have control over. There is so much in our environment and lives that has an influence on what we do, say and act on. I occasionally wonder if we are a bunch of pawns on someones chess board. LOL I am not sure if anyone else remembers the movie Tron? Well that was a movie about people who were forced to live a game while someone else was controlling them and did not know it. Freaking amazing concept for the time. I was very facinated by the idea. There have been other movies that have used games as a way to control people's lives. Last Starfighter used a video game to find the last starfighter pilot to save the world lol. Anything that involves the possibility of someone or something else controling us facinates me. I think that the Sims is very much the closest to that feeling most people get sometimes. Its weird really how we can be controlled by outside influences. LOL

i want to thank you for posting. It really angers me when people who are ill informed as to what is really going on there say we need to bring the troops home. There are obviously a few soldiers that are not going to like being there to help. But a vast majority that I have talked to or seen are with Bush completely and understand why they are there. It really saddens me that so many people are not supportive of what has to be done there. Unfortunately I think it would take more than a few planes falling into a few buildings before the large amount of people who don't think we should be there will be convinced that we are at war. I am proud of all the soldiers and glad thaat they are fighting for me. My heart goes to all the families that have soldiers there and who have lost their loved ones. My heart goes to all the children and wives as well. May God Bless you all and may you bring freedom where it should be needed most.

Hey I actually just got done reading that book like two weeks ago. It was really well written. Did you know that the book started out as a short story that was half the size and then someone asked him to write the second half of the book and then published it. The version of the book I read had a couple of forwards that Ray wrote and talked about the making of the book. That was very interesting too. Its an amazing book. And he wrote it on typewriters that cost 10 cents an hour.

What Is Virtualization? Let me try to explain
unicornrose replied to shadowx's topic in General Discussion
Wow that was very interesting. I did not know that was called virtualization. I thought maybe it was going to be about Virtual worlds which were popular in the late 90s and early in this new century. I learned a little bit more today. I have a duel booting machine with windows and linux but its not always easy. I used differant hardrives for my operating systems cause I have them. -
First thing I want to say is whenever you get a beta release of any program be it a sophisticated well known company or a new not tried company the program will and always has alot of bugs. Its to be expected and as part of the terms of use the company will warn you that they have no guarentees of the usability of the product. With that in mind one should expect the New Windows Vista to be full of problems and issues.I am not surprised to hear that the new Vista is a system hog. Alot of Beta programs are. I have noticed that windows tends to push you to improve your computer with their software. Its really not in my opinion conductive to keeping your customers. Hopefully Microsoft will think in the big picture and improve the functionality of the product and make it so it does not bog down your ram and system resources but I am not holding my breath.

I definately like the original paint. I had lots of fun with it. I have seen that Paint is growing as a program but I would actually like to see it grow even further. Its a fun little program when you are first learning to make and edit graphics but because of it simplicity playing in it does not last long cause there is a ton of stuff that it does not do. I have always liiked paint but as I learned more advanced techniques for graphical design I had to move up in the world and in my graphical design tools. I still try to play with paint every so often but I kind of get bored with it. LOL

Wow I am glad its not real. That is kind of creepy. Then again I guess its kind of like having a normal pet you know. You would have to take care of it and make sure it gets fed and is warm and clean. Rodents only live two to three years so a bioengineered pet that only lives that long would not be too far fetched. Its kind of creepy though as I said before. People can sure be interesting. LOL

What Is This Link About? A Secret Trap17 service?
unicornrose replied to Janissary's topic in Web Hosting Support
There is a text only version of the forums too which you don't log in to and can not post onto. I find it alot when I am doing searches on the internet. It lets you read the entries but not post to them. Its http://forums.xisto.com/index.php/ or something like that. Anyway I think its the text version for people who have really really slow computers and can not take the graphic intensity. LOL -
I could not tell you the specifics behind it but I had some tech sauvy friends that did the two monitors and two mice thing on the same computer before. Its very interesting. You have to have a computer that has alot of ram. I don't know what software you need or anything like that but I do know its possible.

How To Lock A Folder And Keep It Private title explains it
unicornrose replied to kylelnsn's topic in Software
I thi nk that one of the things he mentioned in his tutorial was that this was the free way of doing it. I also wanted to mention that making the file hidden on top of passwording it is definately a good idea. My computer is passworded but I have it set up so that it will login on its own after a few seconds. My personal files are not passworded but you would have to have the password to get to any of the system files. So if anyone was to try to mess up my system they would have to get my password first. -
What Is Phase Change Cooling? and how does it work?
unicornrose replied to member_leaving's topic in General Discussion
The chemical is probably a trade secret. If they tell you waht it is then they may have other people trying to make it too. Also if the pantents are not completely gone through that may be why too. Also I think that the chemical is probably a liquid at room temperature. It honestly should be because of pressure. It could be though but I am thinking its liquid at room temperature because when the fan cools it to liquid form its using room temperature air. This is pretty fascinating though. -
Government Technology Read a Monitor From a distance?
unicornrose replied to Wilson Cook's topic in Science and Technology
I had to take a moment to consider this topic because well there are alot of things that maybe alot of you are unaware of. First of all some companies have special software that they put on their company computers to keep track of where and what their employees do on the computer. Including keystrokes. Another thing is there are actual types of software that many businesses are employing that will allow the company to teach via the web a business partner how to use a web portal or something by sharing a desktop or something. Anyway if its possible to see what the other person is seeing or doing in that kind of software its not too far fetched that the government can see what your doing on your monitor about two miles away. Its very possible to put a device on the computer that will reroute a small enough amount of info so that you would not know that you are being spied on. There are a million possibilities out there. -
I had gotten my hosting account to like 20 credits because I had anticipated being really busy well I had let it go lax I don't remember the exact amount it had gotten to in the negative but I came back and posted to about 2 or 3 in the positve with the full intention of coming back to get the credits back up again. Well anyway with finals and such that did not happen and I had fallen back down to like negative 10 or more. I came in last night and got my hosting credits to above 7 and well its been quite a few hours and my account has not been reinstated. I just wondered if I was permanently suspended. I would totally understand but I was pretty sure that I had not been inactive for over 30 days. Thanks for any help you can give me Opaque or BuffaloHelp.Beth

I can understand your critism of Deviant Art. It has some issues in the regard of the young people who are stuck being teeny boppers. But my experiences with DeviantArt are not nearly as negative as yours. Yeah I get the occational comment like the above but I also do get occational constructive critism too. I am there for the most part to help support some of my friends. I do have alot of poetry and some photos taken by me as well as some friends. I have tried to give constructive crits when I can. I sometimes feel that I don't really have a right to say anything because I hardly know someone. When I do offer crits I try to be constructive and kind about it because I know that sometimes people are sensitive and emotionally attached to their work.

Windows Vista Beta Available? There is one going around
unicornrose replied to scab_dog's topic in Science and Technology
One of the main reasons why most people do not use Beta software is because its full of bugs. If you are finding the Beta Version on the software its more than likely a spyware scam. All software when in Beta is full of bugs and issues. Yes it probably will look fantastic but crashing is way more likely and lots of other glitches. The only reason certain people get to use it is to report bugs to Microsoft to fix them. I have participated in Beta Testing before its not all fun and games. You have to have a good computer to do it too. -
Ugh! It sounds to me like Microsoft as always is trying to manipulate the internet to their favor. Do you know how frustrating it is to not be able to do a bunch of things because:A: I don't have the right kind of windows.B: I am on Linux. This would be just another thing that I could not work with because Microsoft wants to take over the world. LOL I am not bitter really. I think that the current picture file formats we have are perfectly fine for the internet and everyone can access them. I am sure that we probably are going to have to upgrade eventually but I think as it is with the quality of things we don't need to make new jpg formats.

Soyware/ Adware/ Virus Help! Major help needed
unicornrose replied to GM-University's topic in Software
I wanted to take a moment to put my own two cents or so in. I have found that the Lavasoft Ad-Aware home edition which is free is a very good program for finding malicious spyware. Its a good idea to use more than one. Do do a virus scan and then do a adware scan. Do becareful of what programs you use too. Some of the advertised free adware/spyware removers are actually cleaverly disquised adware/spyware generators. Its also a good idea when you realize that you are having adware or spyware problems to look in your start menu for new programs. Sometmes you can find them in your add and remove program menu as well. Some of the none big name search engines will install their special toolbars on your computer which will also put adware on your computer. Some of the free gaming sites that are offshoots will put malicious software on your computer too. You have to watch those popups they will kick your buttt. Do note that if the above advice from our fellow forum mates does not work then do a search with the names of the viruses and spyware. Sometimes you will find some good forums for that sort of thing. Take into consideration that some of the viruses and spyware have it in their programming to keep changing their names. So you may think you have caught the thing and it may come back. I spent a week trying to clean up my brother's computer once and well we tried everything under the sun before we had to give up and completely format the drive and start from scratch. Its a royal pain in the butt to have to do a format and reinstall but if nothing else works that is your only option. Now if you have not done a format and reinstall I highly encourage you to look it up on the net and either print or write out the step by step instructions. Otherwise you are going to be completely lost. Also all computer users should backup their work. I know we get out of that habit but when things like this happen you are reminded why its so important. Most of all don't feel to discouraged you are not alone. It happens to the best of us. -
Bypassing Web Filters a begginers guide
unicornrose replied to einstein's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Great advice. There are other ways to get around blocks too. For example the library computers at my school don't like it when I use gmail but I found since google is allowed I just have to logon on the google page and then go to there more services page and click on gmail and I am there. hehe. sneaky. -
Chat Sites What is with chat sites?
unicornrose replied to Justin S.'s topic in Websites and Web Designing
When I first started using the internet chat sites were alot of fun. I actually loved to make new friends through the internet. I met in real life only a few of them. Even then there were issues with predators but not nearly as bad as it is now. Its actually scarry how horrible people can be now. Its sad that the chat rooms have lost their innocense. I don't really go to chat rooms too often anymore. Most of the cool places I used to go to anyway are boring or lacking of anything now a days. I mostly chat with my real life friends online now. Pretty silly but alot of my friends are too busy to get together with me and/or too far away so this is the perfect media for us to keep in contact. -
Windows Vista: The Next Os? Will it be?
unicornrose replied to wild20's topic in Science and Technology
Pardon Me in my skepticism. Yes I like Windows and have used it throughout my time on the internet. However I got to say no matter how many differant upgrades you make with windows it always has bugs and at some point after running it for a long time it gives you the blue screen of death. Yes I am aware that there are actually people out there that might actually never have problems with windows and love it alot. I have to say that I loved windows for a long time too. However after a long battle with my old computer I found that when I moved over to Linux I had way less freezing problems as well as crashing problems. Sure I have other issues like compatability. But There are ways around that. I am pretty sure that when I get a new computer I will probably go with Windows to give it another chance but until then I am sticking to Linux for the time being. -
Largest Triangular Number With Same Digits
unicornrose replied to rlineker's topic in General Discussion
Okay after glancing at the information on Wikipedia I see that it is a sequence thing. I understand all of the numbers but 1. One does not make a triangle. Its just a dot. That is just plain silly. If someone could explain to me why one is considered a triangular number I would love to know. Now as far as the prime thing goes I don't know how anyone got out of the very first post that they were assuming that 666 was prime. Not once was there mentioned prime numbers. The person was simply asserting in the first 100 triangular numbers 666 is the largest that is all the same digets.
