Which version of rpm are you using ? You can find that out by typing rpm --version This is a known bug in rpm versions 4.3.0.x and has been fixed since version rpm-4.3.1-0.2 when built. You can read about this at: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=119783 If you're using the prior version, you should grab the newer one from RedHat archives. That'll solve your problem.

It's not difficult at all chiiyo. Infact it'll be very easy for you to shift, since you already have prior experience in B & W development. The process is very similar, except that for colour (depending on the quality of developer you're using) - you get 3-4 different chemicals that you've to dip the film in, in a certain order. Only after that you use the fixer. In contrast B&W uses only one developer (we used to get this universal developer from Kodak in India - really cheap, about $1.5, that developed both negatives and paper). Anyway, I don't know how expensive enlargers are in Japan (that's where you live, right ?) but in Thailand you get a full-blown enlarger with a damned good lens for about THB8,000 - that's around $200. And it's worth it Other than the enlarger you'd need the chemicals and some development tanks. You can either get the manual tanks where you've to slide and roll up the whole film onto a reel and immerse that inside the tank - then comes the hard part (rather, painstaking part) - keeping the reel in constant rotating motion for almost half-an-hour. Alternatively, you can get some mechanised drums with builtin motors - but they're damned expensive. The development time also depends on the dilution of the developer - if you dilute it to a great extent, the development process will be very slow and as I said, you got to roll the film in it constantly. In some cases I've even gone upto 45mins... massive advantage of this process is you great some brilliant colors and absolutely smooth gradients.. on the other hand you could use high-density developer (diluted very little) and get the film out in 15 mins flat. This will give you very very grainy images. Bad part about color developers are that those chemicals hardly last more than 3 months (the less expensive ones) - it's either 3 months or about 60 film rolls (35mmx36shots) - whichever comes earlier. So you gotta use them real quick. There are thousands of little tricks like this that I've picked up all this while.. If you're interested we could start some cool discussions threads here on the various aspects of photography and share them with the others. We could also share our work in here. Maybe I'll come up with a post outlining how to setup your own minilab in some corner of your house.. that'll be cool All the best

Nope.. Your only bet is to make enough posts to get about 30 credits and then go on a vacation. That'll see you through for a month at least. Believe me, 30 credits isn't as much as it sounds. Just 4-5 good informative posts is enough to get you much more than that - but remember, 4-5 line posts will hardly get you any credits. If your credit dips below 0 your account is suspended till you come back and make some more posts to swing it back above 5.

Here's a simple trick that'll create an icon on your desktop. Clicking on that will achieve the same effect. I've no idea how to bring that button back on tha dialog box that pops up on Ctrl-Alt-Del. 1. First create a new shortcut on your desktop by right-clicking on a blank space > New Shortcut. 2. In the dialog box that comes up and asks you for the location of the program, copy and paste this entire line: rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation. 3. Do you have any experience with SQL (Structured Query Language) ? Excel responds to SQL Commands - and if your host provides ASP hosting, you can easily use your excel file with your web-page without porting the data to any other database engine. There's something called Nero Burnrights - a freeware tool downloadable from Nero's site. Get it Here. The only catch is, your friend has to always use the admin login in Windows, or just create a login for himself in the admin group. Once you install this, you can set it such that people with only admin logins can burn CDs (infact that is the default even without BurnRights - but you can explicitly specify it using burnrights). Why doesn't your friend create a Power User account for his sibling and keep the Admin login just to himself ? Here's more on BurnRights: While this little piece of code is used to provide burning rights to ppl with lesser than admin privileges, it can be used to reverse the process too - i.e. lock up the ability to burn for others. Another process: Yet a third method: Use this software named Hide Folders XP. It lets you explicitly specify which folders/files you'll allow certain groups of users to access. The CD Drive is treated as a folder on Windows - so this sw can be used without a prob. Another alternative software: Secure Folder (for Windows 2000/XP) 2.0

After you click on the quota tab beside a FTP Account, you'll be taken to a screen that look like this: The "_______" space is a textfield, right ?? and as you can see the MegaBytes is already specified beside the textfield. So all you've to do is simply enter some numerical figure as your desired quota there... No need to put in any mb or megabytes after it.. Following your example, just a 2 would suffice as an entry. Hurrrrrrrrrrrraaah !!! My CDs have arrived too.. Even I was thinking it as a BIG BIG JOKE till today. They just arrived this morning.. All right, I'll admit that like a greedy pig I'd ordered 30 Intel CDs & 10 AMD-64 CDs - but that was just to see if they really do it... and OMG, indeed I received 40 CDs today morning.. I shouldn't be grumbling about it - but there goes my CHANCE for the next version lol... What I wonder though is that it took them 22 Euros to ship that box weighing 1.8 Kilos to Thailand. How are they generating that money to support this program ?

There you go.. Ignition has already provided the answer for you. That's what you need to do - click on that process link and follow the rest of the instructions. Keep in mind though, that after you've entered your details and clicked on the submit button - there'll be a cosiderable time lag - while the script creates and sets up your account in the background. It took me about 3 mins over a 56.6Kbps dialup. But it depends on server load too. Anyway, after your account is processed you'll get a page dump containing a summary of the jobs done to create your account - you'll have to dig through that and find out your login/pass and http/ftp account details. I'm a pretty decent photographer (if I may say so) - and I'd go for film flat out. While digicams give you the immense flexibility of keeping or rejecting any shot rightafter, the color latitude & gradients that you get on film are still unbeatable even by high end high megapixel digicams that we have today. Somehow the color perception of digicams have always been a little different than film - and if you're using Transparency (Slide Film) - landscapes invariably come out with such vivid and brilliant color ranges. I've got a digicam though - most of the time I use it to compose my shots, take a few shots and see how the framing has come out and then take the best shot again with my SLR. Prior to digicams I used a polaroid along with my SLR to achieve this effect. While I'm not a film extremist, I think I'm going to stick to films as long as they survive. Besides the whole process of developing your own films and then printing them (seeing the picture fade in on that piece of blank paper) has a complete different thrill to it, which Photoshop can never impart. It's literally like giving birth to your own creation. I've been an avid photographer since I was in my 5th grade and I taught myself everything on my own. I've even got my full-blown color enlarger and a mini development lab with all the accessories you can imagine. Long live film

I'm a die hard Sims fan - gimme any kind of sim - the cities, hospitals, or just the basic Sims - and I won't ever get up from this terminal before next 3 weeks.. that's how crazy I'm about all the Sims... Played all of them 2000, 3000 and right now having great fun with Simcity 4000. Chiiyo - just go ahead and get it. The graphics are 4000 times better than the last edition with a horde of new stuff that you can do. The interface too has improved tenfolds and managing the city is much easier coz you've got hundreds of different advisors now, advising you on all aspects of city management all the time. There are some funky new natural disasters too that you can toy around with. Setting up water & electricity lines too is a breeze now. Well, what are you waiting for - go get it, play it and then tell me how you liked it. I'm all out for it.

You probably got it much faster than anyone else bcoz of the fact that you're in UK and this was being shipped out from somewhere nearby... 100 P4s - you'd get one for approx. THB 22, 000 here.. that's about $550 - times 100 = $55,000 ... yeah you're quite right - just the hardware setup alone (include a couple of extremely high performance switches)..would go way way above the prize money.. How about the concept of distributed internet computing - that might cut down the setup cost - but then you've to depend of ppl volunteering and downloading your client.. lot of hassle. Hrrrrmmmppphhh.. What wouldn't I give to have a setup like that though.

Hehehe... it won't take that much. Just make a cluster of the brand new p4's or alikes (10 would be good I guess) and be out on the hunt... I wonder though what kind of equipment it takes to perform such intense number crunching operations (other than supercomps of course).. Do you know of any site that guides you or at least provides the basic specs for such a job ?? It's worth a try - $100,000 is no mean joke - though no conventional Data Type can handle those numbers. So you got to come up with your own code capable of handling 32-64-128 (whatever) bit integers in order to deal with such immense numbers.
