Linux Or Windows What the Diff.
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to kids25's topic in Websites and Web Designing
kids25: I think you got your answer or temporary solution - whatever way you name it. I'll wait and see what's going on in this thread and if it flares off as another of those Linux-Windows WAR threads I'll close it immediately. Thre are probably over 100 threads similar to this singing praises for both Linux & Windows... and eventually all of which lapsed into one of those ugly OS wars.. In your spare time just search around the OS section of this board and you'll see plenty of those posts. Take some time out to read them carefully and...you'll find your direction. Rest is upto your judgement..All the best -
HI all, I'd stumbled upon this site quite a few years back - it's called Linux Counter - a free site that attempts to track the number of linux users worldwide. Set apart from Linux User Groups (LUGs) and all the Linux forums on the net, which are more oriented towards helping Linux users - this in fact is a very barebone and basic site that's solely dedicated to it's purpose. All it does is try get a rough estimate of linux user - but not without a little help from you. You DO NEED to go to the site and sign up to get counter - in return you get that cool little logo that you see attached to my signature demarking the position at which you got Counted. The site also offers a couple of shell scripts that can automatically update your system specs/details on the site, without your intervention. I say go ahead and GET YOURSELF COUNTED. This is probably the only way to get to an approx. figure of total linux users around the world... Here's a quote from their site: And some more news about this project from LinuxWorld Magazine: These guys need all your encouragement an support - so here I go again.... GO AHEAD AND GET YOURSELF COUNTED rightaway, right now Cheers to the Linux World !!

Another very good article vujsa... I'm a programmer myself and working in the field of networked/distributed apps - I've long realized the importance of comments in the right place and what it can do to even your own code. Coz, if you leave your own code untouched for a while, when you get back to it next - I particularly find myself completely lost.. Comments always have helped me get started from the right point again... One of my professors in school used to harp on and on about the importance of comments - but I never realized how important they were in reality till I came down to sitting at a terminal 24/7 and writing code.. Another small tip I'd add to this is - for the more serious coders, try putting a comment wherever you end a function/loop/class with a curly brace "}".. For example class SomeClass{ .............. function SomeFunction { for (....) { ............... } // end for ............................. } // end of SomeFunction ............} // end of SomeClass The advantage of inserting such ending comments won't be apparent till you actually get around to doing it. For a long series of nested loops/classes, or loops inside a function - this makes your life immensely easier when you try to read your code later on. You KNOW for a fact exactly which brace terminates which class/function/loop Anyways, good one. Glad to have you here among us

Hey guys, I just found this really cool web-based FTP Client, that acts like any of your FTP Software - really fast and feature packed. Comes to real handy when you are in a cafe or some place from where you want to use ftp but don't want to go into the hassle of downloading and installing a client.. I tried FTP-ing to fortunecity, Xisto and several other places.. Login is almost instantaneous and a host of features, including being able to ftp to a second server and copy/move files between these two servers, zip/unzip, download emails, edit files.. got syntax highlighting too.. I highly recommend this site: http://ftp.philonthe.net/ .... Give it a try and post in your comments about it. Here's a list of features directly from their site: Happy FTP-ing

Hahaha.. that's neat phoenix47 vujsa - I see you got yourself a nice explanation of classes from mc. If you are still unclear about any particular part of classes (say how inheritence, polymorphism etc work) - I'd be able to point you out to a couple of good tutorials or better yet, explain some myself.. Do make a post in if you need any further help..Regards

How To Get Rid Of The Banana
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to chris1234's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Lol.. yeah there's a software called Sothink SWF Decompiler that can help you do the job. It'll split up the whole .swf file into it's component sprites, texts, sound and even actionscript.. but as rudy pointed out it'll violate the terms of agreement of JAlbum if you're using their gallery creator. -
Yaah.. same here as all of you.. I'm really doubtful about the whole thing till I receive my pack. All those question keep feeling my mind too - I can't figure out why would they do it worldwide and that too in whatever figure you want... I mean wtf ? What if I used some spammer bot to generate a huge range of spurious postal addresses in different countries ... lol..the company would just go broke and vanish just because of the fact they couldn't handle their postal charges ??? How would that sound .. lol !!

Now this is what I'd call an excellent article vujsa. The techniques you've shown here are extremely nifty and BIG time-savers when you want to avoid repetitive code. Moreover, one can easily put these techniques together in a library/class and utilize them for rapid dynamic code generation. Plus they clearly demonstrate your vast knowledge on the subject and of course all those years of experience that you've had clearly speaks out for itself.. We'd expect loads of more such great posts from you... Welcome to Xisto and hope you have an enjoyable stay. All the best and cheers

I believe you refer to the enum list using the variables that you have specified inside.. I'm not sure whether you can refer to it using the index number.. i.e. i've always used it in the form: day = monday, though I'd say there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to use an integer instead of the variable name... If you want more details on enum, follow these links: 1. http://www.functionx.com/cpp/Lesson07.htm 2. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ 3. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ 4. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Hope this helps

Lol.. you SHOULD COME down for a visit - it's an awesome place.. I came here to do my college - but then fell so much in love with this place - am not going back even if they kick me out Am planning to settle down here - formed a little sw dev/networking soln firm and due to launch very soon. We are into designing School/Univ/Hospital Management systems with LAMPS servers and loads of workstations with .NET clients connected to it.. All activities are controlled by magnetic swipe cards.. But once again - you should get your a$$ down to thailand asap.. it's so beautiful out here.. the place I live in - 22nd floor in a condo, right on the beach.. if you jump off the terrace you'll land in the sea... Right behind the condo, opp. the sea is a highway and a loooong mountain range right after the highway.. there's a airport runway too - traversing OVER the highway.. the highway actually goes through a tunnel BELOW the runway.. and NOTHING.. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING within mileeeeeess... JUST LUSH GREENERY.. no other tall buildings at least within a 5 km radius ... It's sheer heaven.. I'll post some more pics taken from my condo tomorrow.. To all of you out there - COME DOWN TO THAILAND asap and we'll have a huge beach rave here ... lots of fun party's and travelling

Haha.. nice one harriko.. cool post. -
Yaah I wonder why they're doing it too - i.e. whats the desperation..lol.. besides that 10 CD fact struck me really odd too.. wtf ?? i'd expected it to be limited to max 2-3 cds, whereas your mailing count starts straight at 10 cds !!! whoaaa... anyways, as I said, I'll quitely wait for my cd's to turn up - and see whether they really DO... I ordered a couple for the x86 and amd64.. lets see how long it takes.
-
I'd thought so too - that there would be shipping restrictions and they'd post only within US or something similar - but I was quite surprised to find that they're doing it worldwide.. and not just that - you're NOT LIMITED to ordering just one CD... you can order as many as you want of each of the three types (x86, PowerPC & AMD64)... I wonder how they're handling all that shipping.. but I'll just wait patiently and wait for my order to turn up Lets see if it really goes through.. Best of luck with your ordering.. You'll get through sooner or later.. I got in at the first try... The page has just the bare minimum info. needed so load time is extremely low.. Cheers

Did you say Fedora is for beginners ?????? I beg to differ here.. Even though Fedora rose out of a Redhat backed community-based project - it is not at all meant for the beginners.. Mandrake, Slackware, Ubuntu and even Gentoo are the ones which infact new users should start with.. Fedora has carved a separate niche for itself among the linux distros by its own right. In fact, the coding and features are so good that it's only comparable to the Redhat Enterprise Server series of Linux..no less.. It's as good at handling servers as the RHEL's are, if not more... I've been using it alongwith RHEL for quite a while on my company servers and I'm thoroughly impressed at its performance, even though I'm using FC2 (The kernel of FC2 is thoroughly optimized for networked rdbms systems). Eagerly waiting to get my hands on a copy of Fedora Core 3. I read through all these discussions on the best linux distro.. If you want to view the most comprehensive list of linux distro's in the market and read loads of reviews on them - goto: DistroWatch.Org - that's the site to be in for all linux users out there... Also check out my other post on Ubuntu Linux - they're giving away absolutely free copies of their distro on CDs including free shipping... Cheers
-
Hi guys, I searched about this particular Linux Distro after I read about it in a post by MajesticTreeFrog at Xisto.Com ( http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ) - and I found out that they still have that offer OPEN. They're giving away free CDs for Intel, PowerPC and AMD64 Platform.. They even ship as many copies as you want FREE OF COST INCLUDING SHIPPING CHARGES. This is your golden chance lol... HURRY HURRY.. GRAB YOUR COPY OF LINUX.. @ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Do it today and spread the word around.. Linux is the OS of the day, year, the epoch...

Guys, OpaQue pointed this site out to me - you HAVE TO TRY IT. It's hillllllarious. Once you get to this site - you meet up with a Google like interface. In the search field you type in the URL of your own/any site and wait up for it to transliterate... in it's own lingo better known as Textilize - and the whole page comes up in this Snoop Dog like *BLEEP*h lingo Get to it at: https://www.meetme.com/ Or if you want a direct translation of what you enter (whatever you type in, instead of passing it a web-site) you should go directly to the Textilize link: https://www.meetme.com/ Try it RIGHT NOW.. I was on the floor half the time laughing, when opaque showed me this gizoogled article of mine... I'm pasting a copy of this message itself gizoogled out so you get an idea... lollzzzz Have funnnnnn roflmao

Page Creation i feel real retared
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to firedoor's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Have you logged into your site yet ? Either login through cPanel and use the File Manager there to upload your file or else BETTER - if you know how to use FTP, login into your account using FTP and dump the file in there.. In either case, make sure the file goes into this folder named - public_html that you'll find pre-created in your account's folder. Just dump the file there.. and oh yeah - you have to name the first page (that is supposed to load) of your site as index.html - apache always looks for the index.html to load as the default first page of your site. Either index.html or index.php - any one of them would do.. but with any other filename, your site won't be accessible...unless you explicitly include the name of that file concat-ed to your URL. Still in the dark - let me know and I'll try explaining in a little simpler way.. All the best -

Absolutely not. That code is in pure PHP - and if the code is written by Inspired, he's opened it up for public use as soon as he posted it in this forum. No copyrights have been mentioned anywhere - so it's free for public domain use... -
Ok.. here's what's happening to you most likely...1. For some reallllly weird reason Windows 2K/XP WILL NOT allow you to install on a partition that is located on the cylinders above 1000 and something (forgot, 1038 probably). It just reports in certain cases that the cylinders' location will not meet the booting constraints. 2. I'm assuming that those Linux Partitions are all Primary - is the last Fat32 also primary ? Coz windows will velhemently refuse to install itself on an extended partition. 3. Probable solution - try hiding all the other partitions - use qtparted or whatever and declare all of them hidden, temporarily at least and see if it fools windows into believing that the only existing partition is that FAT32 one...4. If step 3 doesn't work then there's no probable way out coz the root of the problem lies in rule 1. In that case only solution is to get yourself another hdd - windows will happily install itself on the second one, provided you do so within the first 1000 cylinders...I've faced these problem numerous times - and always found it much easier to install windows first and then linux.. but in this case there's no way out... or maybe someone else can come up with something better idea. All the best

Errr. I think I'm going to object in here We've across a subject that's a topic of an age old debate.. HTML/XML/XHTML are NOT programming languages AT ALL.. It is more like tag based page formatting "language??" The biggest difference between a programming language and HTML is that it only structures text, graphics etc. in a document (ie. a structural language) - but is devoid of any kind of conditional statements or logical branching as also of subroutines/procedures of any kind. If you want to read some really arrogant commentry on it (lol) check in here: 1. http://www.drdobbs.com/windows/ 2. http://www.digitalbootcamp.com/pdf/100_webdev_bt.pdf 3. http://cseweb.ucsd.edu/~elkan/134A/nov18.html
