HI all, This is probably the first public announcement of the all new Xisto IRC Channel that has been opened up recently to give you realtime help with your Hosting Issues & various other problems at Xisto. How do you get there? Simple. First you've to download an IRC client - the best out there on the net is probably mIRC. Get it at: http://www.mirc.com/ Once you have that fire it up and type /server irc.dal.net - that'll make you join the server on which our support channel is hosted. Next, type /join #Xisto - that'll place you into our channel rightaway.. It serves as dual purpose - as a realtime support mechanism as well as a gathering place for all Xisto members. Also featured in the channel: 1. Live weather reporting on any city in the world 2. Live news feed from LinuxNews.Com 3. Live news from CNN.Com 4. More to come... Have fun and welcome to #Xisto @ DalNet. Once you're there, if in doubt feel free to contact any of the Mods/Admins (marked with an "@" in front of their name, there). P.S. For some fun, try either of: !weather or !linuxnews or !news while you're there.

Not Being Active For A While

Post away to glory, get credits for about an year and go for your long long vacation... Just a stupid suggestion. We won't reduce your credits to -ve manually.. but the credit system might do it on its own. Now that thing is an unstoppable mammoth and we don't have it's reigns - so I guess your best bet is to make some really large posts Opaque or Nils might have a better suggestion. Don't mind me - it's just one of my whacky moods. -
Hey.. if you cant find perl - try this command: which appname CONSOLE shell> which perl /usr/bin/perl As you can see from the above example it'll clearly point you to the directory in which the app exists. Usually all perl scripts need one line (the first line in the script, see vizskywalkers example) that points to the perl interpreter.. the line somewhat looks like this: #!/usr/bin/perl Even if you see that comment sign (#) at the beginning of this line, do not remove it. It's needed. This lines tells where to locate perl and as I said, has to be the first line in any perl script. Make sure this points to the right location of perl else your script wont work.

I don't know about Mac or Lin (I'm still looking for Lin) - but for windows, there's an excellent freeware with it's own scripting engine. It's called NSIS (the one WinAmp uses) - it's immensely powerful if you use it right. Flip side - you gotta learn a bit about it's scripting language (which isn't hard at all) - you just deal with some standardized messageboxes and buttons - similar to Visual Basic... but no wysiwyg interface. You write the script, pass it to it's compiler and whaaam..you have your installer. Thousands of really cool samples provided. There's nothing that you cannot do with this installer... Moreover it's freeware and Opensource.. I'm using it right now - and it's the best in terms of flexibility, power & control. Get it at: http://nsis.sourceforge.net/Main_Page

DO NOT go for Yahoo!Domains. Absolutely NOT. They are into the worst form of fraud right now. You try buying a domain through them - they hijack it and hold onto it. They'll never give you you domain till you fall down to your knees and beg and offer to pay 100 times over. They are bloody cheats. Go for GoDaddy.Com instead. This is from personal experience - absolutely first hand. I'm warning you against Yahoo - rest is upto you. If I could I'd burn those $#&s down.

Firefox Wants To Shut Itself Down Randomly
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG's topic in Software
Thats very funny. I've no extensions installed - not a SINGLE ONE.. On the other hand I had this problem too when I'd installed a whole lot of extensions.. sometimes it even attempts to close down on certain google search pages. -
I don't know if any of you faced this problem before - but this happens to me quite frequently .. say, at least once a day.. But I don't think it's a problem with firefox. I think it's got something to do with certain scripts running on some pages. When I visit this pages (e.g.: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) firefox just keeps popping up a message saying it want to close all the tabs and shut down.. Very very funny.. It keeps on doing so persistently even if I cancel the dialog. On the other hand, as soon as I close this disturbing tab, all's fine.. no hassles anymore. This happens on certain random websites from time to time.. Have any of you ever experienced this before and/or found a solution ???? -----I fixed your link -----szupie

Not just that. Take a look at the features it offers - can give any of the commercial giants a big run.. And of course it's opensource and got this incredible support forum.

Invision if not FREE anymore - I guess that's why.. the trial version is extremely limited in its capabilities.

Google Engine On Your Site! How to get on your site
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to scab_dog's topic in Search Engines
There's something called Google API (Application Programming Interface) - just google for it. You've to signup at their site or if you've got a gmail account already I think you can bypass the signup procedure. Anyways, get the google API and read the documentation included with it.. It's got pretty decent samples of how to integrate google web-search into your page - to search both the www as well as your local site. That should solve your prob. :)Try it and let me know if it worked out for you.. All the best -
Sorry dude. it doesn't work that way. When you install any software on Windows, the main program files and some associated .dll files go into the installation directory you choose. But apart from that - the installers generally dump some more common .dll files into the Windows > System32 directory and creates some new registry entries too. Without these files & entries, your program wouldn't work. When you simply drag & drop the program folder into your USB drive and copy it over to the other system - the main program files get copied, but those reg. entries and system dlls stay back on the system with the original installation. Hence the copied program almost never works. In order to get it on your other system, you'll need the original Setup.exe that you used to install photoshop on the first system. Sorry to say, without that it's almost next to impossible - although there are some tools similar to Norton Ghost, that can track all these system changes made during an installation and can create a compact .exe file that'll dump the whole of a prior installation including all .dlls and reg. keys onto your new drive. But an not sure about the name - I mean I forgot which tools can do it... Try looking around and you might just be able to find one.. All the best

Un-suspend My Site UN-SUSPEND MY SITE
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to arunkumarhg's topic in Web Hosting Support
You have around 6 credits now. Your account should get unsuspended shortly on it's own. It's an automatic process that usually never takes more than an hour once you've got over 5 credits again. -
New Irc Channel For This Board
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG's topic in Websites and Web Designing
All right no probs First grab an IRC Client: mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/) is the best, according to me.. Once you have that, start it and type /server irc.dal.net and you'll connect to the desired server. Next you've to type: /join #Xisto and you'll be placed in that channel. OPaque suggested we create a channel called Xisto and get all members from Xisto, Xisto and Xisto - Web Hosting to come together there... All three channels and existent now. Feel free to join any of them. Joining is done by: /join #channelname. -
Hi all, First of all thanks to szupie for the idea. We've a new irc channel for this board on Dal.Net - try joining any of the dalnet servers (irc.dal.net) and join the channel #Xisto - it's up for a test run and we've had quite a few of the mods already visiting the place. Let's give it a shot for a few days and see if we can use this to help out in the Hosting Support Program... plus it'll act as a much faster alternative for the shoutbox. Flip side is, if this works out well, the shoutbox here will almost die out.. Let me know your opinions/views.

Regular Used Terms In The Webhosting World
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to soleimanian's topic in Software
Heh.. lame attempt for sure, coz a few days back he'd made this post on FTP outlining what ftp is and it's features.. Similarly on some other protocols too.. now's he's put it all together in one liners.. lol.. Don't know what to do with this. -
This is a known problem. Do you remember how you'd to create a MySQL Service and specify a common windows service name for MySQL when you setup 4.018 ? When you simply uninstall MySQL, it removes the present installation - without terminating the service. Under such circumstances, the original .exe file that runs as the windows service doesn't get deleted, and still keeps loading/running in the background. When you try to install a newer version over it, the running service prevents the .exe being overwritten and this generates that error message you're getting. Your simplest way out, is to re-install the old MySQL again, use it to Stop and Disable the Service and then uninstall it. Next install the newer version. Second method: Goto Control Panel > Administrative Options > Services. From the list of services, find out the MySQL service and Stop It. Then Disable it from running for good. Next go to the mysql installation directory and remove it entirely. Now you can install the new version without a hitch. Give it a try and let me know if you succeeded. All the best

I'm sure there are such formula's in existance. The simplest approach would be to apply the rules of divisibility on each successive integer from the set of whole numbers. The main problem is that for any integer 'n' you've to check whether it's divisible by any of the numbers: 2...(n-1) ... Here's an routine written in VB that generates an array of primes till a number 'n' that you specify.... Get it Here. But if you study the routine a little bit, you'll notice how fast we'll run out of stack/memory space as we go for higher and higher numbers. The standard integer/double data types aren't sufficient at all - in such a case you'll have to create your own high capacity data types to hold these humongous primes. As qwiji pointed out there are some C based libraries that aid you in designing such data types, but you'll need to be fairly advanced in Mathematics to be able to makes sense of them in any way

Our Own Irc Channel Just a Suggestion
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to szupie's topic in Websites and Web Designing
That'll be real cool - have any of you ever used DaLNet ? I liked that one the best out of all... I think we should indeed have a IRC Channel too - but if that's there - the shoutbox here is going to go dumb, completely...The reason I'm suggesting DalNet is it's got one of the largest network of irc servers that provides a lot better in terms of operability (in case of broken links between servers). Try it out. Use mIRC or your favourite IRC Client and join: irc.dal.net and then join the channels Xisto and Xisto - I've already created sample channels there.. -

That's a real cool site. Thanks jedipi - unfortunately neither does my camera exist on the list. It's a Nikon F65D. Going to grab a F75 since prices have shot way way down. -
Hey can you please edit this post a bit and insert the images properly in place of the user posted images ? Use the [ IMG ] tag if they're small images or for larger images use the [ PICFRAME ] tag.
