  1. Don't worry about it - it's just your Web-Hosting account, which is on Xisto. All you've to do is go sign-up in that forum and make a hosting request post. Your credits will be transferred to there and you'll get hosting. As for this forum, you membership is NOT ENDING here - you are still free to come here and make posts anytime. Just that, the posts that you've to make to get hosting credits and keep you web-account running, have to be made on Xisto and not here. Any help/discussions on serious computing topics - we're always here All the best & Regards, m^e
  2. See here no need to be sorry - just that we maintain very strict posting guidelines here and the posts have to meet a certain quality criteria. In case you'r wondering - we've got sister site named Xisto.Com - which offers exactly same hosting services as here - but you might find way more people of your age group and thinking there.. I think it'll be best for you to give it a shot there. Xisto, Xisto, AntiLost etc - all are under the Xisto ring of sites. I strongly recommend that you drop by at Xisto and check it out - a whole lot of games there too And you'll get the very same hosting that you get here - without having to bother about maintaining your post quality in the least
  3. When you start a thread - at least try to start it with something meaningful. You might not realize - but this sounds nothing more than utter nonsense. At least when you want to portray a negative view about some product, justify your thoughts with facts & figures or at least a decent explanation on WHY you find the product to be bad. These posts don't count much except towards increasing the junk on this forum.
  4. MAC (Media Access Control) address is the physical address of the network card installed on your system - with which you connect to your router/modem over UTP ethernet cable. Network adapter cards use a burned-in address - this unique hardware address burned into a ROM chip on that network interface card. This hardware address on the network interface card provides the definitive address for that computer network card on the network. Every network card manufactured is supposed to have a unique MAC address. The address looks like this: 00-80-48-32-9B-6B - a combination of 6 hexadecimal numbers. With this information you can easily find out who the manufacturer of your card is and the serial/batch number of it. The first 3 numbers actually represent the company who manufactured your card and their name can be looked up on various MAC address databases on the net by entering those numbers. The last 3 numbers represent the product batch/serial number and is left upon the company to decide how they'd use that part. One such site which tells you the manufacturer of your card based on the first 3 numbers is: http://www.coffer.com/mac_find/ If you want to find out the MAC address of your network card, simply open up a Command Prompt in Windows and type CONSOLE C:\> ipconfig /all Windows 2000 IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : sourjya Primary DNS Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : microsys-asia.info Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : microsys-asia.info Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8139(A)-based PCI Fast Et hernet Adapter Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-80-48-32-9B-6B As you can see the last line here shows me the physical address or MAC address of my card... This address is used in conjunction with your IP to send/receive packets in your internal network. There are lots of protocols involved in how MAC addresses are used in this regard. In other words, these physical addresses are very essential to the computers to be able to locate each other on an internal network. For more information look-up the RFC (Request For Comment) archives on MAC addresses. Hope this clears things up a bit. Regards, m^e
  5. That's the problem with the new shoutbox. If you have noticed it auto-refreshes from time to time independent of the main forum page. If that refresh cycle is interrupted in the middle, it dumps the half-formed HTML+CSS Stylesheet code into the message area instead.Lets see if this can be fixed - but this shoutbox is written by a group called D2Scripting.com - will have to check with them first if they've come out with a fix already or not.
  6. How about a glass-house near some beach on the moon from where you can sit out on your porch for the evening tea and watch the earth rise
  7. Hi guys, Just today while browsing Sourceforge I came across this software called User Mode Linux. Here's a short intro. straight from their site: This seems to be the mini brother of VMWare. My question is has anybody tried this out yet - and can give me some sort of a comparative review of this one and VMWare ? I'd really like to know. I was thinking of designing something similar to this for Windows, some cut-down version of a Virtual Machine, that'll enable you to test all the downloaded software - that way you are free to keep ONLY the one's which you find useful and not worry about your registry getting filled with chunks and chunks of useless trash. Cheers, m^e
  8. Dude you got some BIG PROBLEM - something is transmitting data out of your system - either some simple data miner or a keylogger. Amount of uploads are never same as downloads.. all the uploads that happen are usually various kinds of acknowledgements to packet receipt and for handshakes. Your system should not be transmitting same amount of data as it receives.I say go for a full format, if none of them can capture it.
  9. Hi, [tab][/tab]Here I am again with another lot of snaps that I want to share with you all. These were taken during my student days while I was engulfed by this wunderlust - my adventures all over thailand captured using a Canon DigiCam. Not quite the results I'd expected (being an avid supporter of FILM Cameras).. but still worth taking a second look. Most of these snaps here were taken during the Full Moon Rave that Thailand is really famous for. It takes place on this island, some 150kms into the ocean - completely cut-off from the world. It happens on the full moon nights of every month, Jan-Dec, but peak months are from Sept-Feb when the island receives an average crowd of 30-40,000 people around the fullmoon date. Its such a mingboggling event that you've to see it to believe it. Pictures are supposed to be worth a thousand words - but even a couple of hundred thousand will fall short to describe this occasion... Take a look at the pics and you'll get an idea. The forum sw won't permit me to post more than 10 pictures per post.. So I've created a whole gallery on Imageshack. You can get to it at: =========================================== // Gallery Deleted @ Imageshack =========================================== Dont miss out on it - it's got some ultra cool pictures Enjoy... Comments & Feedback much appreciated
  10. Actually, apart from setting up your MySQL server, the learning curve is quite high - it's only the setting up and fine-tuning part that takes time and patience, coz you got to understand a wide variety of topics on networked databases and the data-flow among various hosts. The SQL (Structured Query Language) part of MySQL - with which you manipulate all the data, is very easy to learn, as SQL, unlike other prorgamming/scripting languages, employ a very basic syntax of clear-cut english words - which are very easy to understand and follow. Let me give you a couple of simple examples: SELECT * FROM myTableThis code simply selects all the data that you have in a table named myTable Another one: SELECT * FROM myTable WHERE ID='abcd'This is an extension of the above statement (also known as a Query) - which selects data from the same table, but only the rows, where the field called ID has 'abcd' as the data... Similarly, say you want to delete all the rows in a table where the ID matches 'abcd' DELETE FROM myTable WHERE ID='abcd' Now do you see - how simple the statements are ? As long as you know english - it's not a problem at all - almost all statements are self-evident, i.e. you can figure out the function of the statement by just reading over it a couple of times...Obviously SQL involves a huge array of such statements to allow you to manipulate data in almost every conceivable way.. but as I said .. they're all in plain clear English Hope this helps
  11. Ahaa nice to know Am working here in Thailand - running my own company Software/Networking Solutions firm. Yup - bangkok is an awesome place, but too damned polluted. I feel extremely suffocated there and cannot spend more than 3 days at a stretch there. Luckily my home+office is around 1 hour away from the main city - so a lot of clean fresh air and peace...
  12. If you look a little more carefully - you'll see we have plenty of sub-forums under Designing forum - to deal with all sorts of graphics design issues. Plus we have a thriving tutorial section where you'll find a whole bunch of really classy tutorials on the same. Only thing missing is the movie forum But the "Entertainment" sub-forum under Life Talk deals with this presently. In future we might consider opening up a sub-forum dedicated solely to movies. Next time read the forum descriptions first
  13. While we break our heads on it - why don't you file a report with Fedora as well - you might have come across some potential bug!! Check out their forums and see if anyone's faced this and make a report as well...Regards,m^e
  14. Hahahaha.. I want some tooo - send me some please. My eengleesh aint dat bat .. pleez be senting me sum.
  15. Oh cool - as long as you've managed to setup mysql and can use the command line you can easily link it up to your web-pages. Have you installed a web-server yet ? I highly recommend that you use Apache - which will make the bridge between web and mysql a lot smoother. Look around the PHP forum here - and you'll find plenty of examples of how-to access mysql with php and spit the output on to your site. If you still can't figure it out - come back and make another post and we'll guide you through setting up a basic web-mysql interaction. Believe me - it's not at all as hard as it sounds... for displaying some basic information from mysql on your page - you hardly need more than 5-6 lines of code (whether php or perl)Among perl and php - I'd prefer php, as perl's syntax is slightly more cryptic than php - and if you're a little familiar with the syntax of c/c++/java - php will be a childs play to pick up :(Good luck with your ventureRegards,m^e
  16. Hi guys, I tried out some of the mp3 tags editors out there in the market but liked none - what I'm seeking will be able to take off folders from my hdd and then present me with a list in a grid like format, from where I can easily edit/add tags to each, upon which they'll get auto-categorized neatly.. are there any such softwares out there. All the one's I used were horribly bad or lacking or for most part - the creators themselves seemed confused with what they're trying to achieve. Most of them contain a hore of completely worthless features whereas the really needed one's are missing, or even if they're present - the interface is so bad that you'd give up in no more than 5 mins.. highly frustrating. What's your experience with tag editors - and if you know of any good ones please post back please..Thanks & Regards,m^e
  17. Hi guys, Till date we don't have an easy way of indexing the HOSTED member's pages at Xisto or Xisto. We are going to start working on that pretty soon - and develope some sort of a page indexing system, that will automatically list your hosted site as soon as you put up your pages - i.e. some sort of a custom crawler, that will crawl through only the asta+trap sites. Right now the only way of finding out a members site is by browsing through the hosting account request posts and figuring out the domain/subdomains from there - or wading through all the posts in this forum. So with an auto-indexing system in place, life will be hell lot easier But prior to that - I ask you guys to to come and list your sites, one by one in consecutive posts. No need to put up a review of your site - simply make a post mentioning your domain/subdomain and the theme of your site as a reply to this post. The format would be like: This'll make our categorization job a triffle bit easier and give us a heads up... Also along with this, the directory will contain quick links to the wealth of tutorials we have on this board and trap - but of course, the tutorials will be reviewed again and only the best and most concrete ones will be listed up there for quicker reference. So be on with it - what are you waiting for ? Christmas ?? Regards, m^e
  18. This isn't any show buddy - this is like a whole bunch of independent people spinning the Poi's out on the beach - along with the beats of music. Anyone's welcome to join in - I spin a fair bit myself - maybe, sometime I can put up some of the videos of myself It's awesome man - the roar of fire and wind gives you a different high on it's own ... throw in the effects of some common hallucinogens on the people who are watching and you can imagine what their perception of this whole thing might be There are a couple of guys who stay on that island and are absolutely Pro's at it. They offer 3-4 day courses for about $40 and teach you all the tricks from ground up - it's been my plan for a long time to go and take up a short course with them .. lets see when time permits. Meanwhile I'm picked up quite a few cool tricks all on my own by watching people do it. Regards. m^e
  19. I'd highly recommend GoDaddy - and if you purchase for 5 years at a time - you get it at a discounted price of around $7/year. The control panel is immensely powerful - and once you have your domain, pointing it to thr asta account is no big deal
  20. See if you can keep you credits above 15 right now, then after 30 days your credits will drop down to -15. This will simply deactivate your account - which you can revive automatically after coming back by making enough posts to bring it back upto the +5 region. But if you leave with ZERO credits now and once your account reaches -30, you hosting account will be auto deleted, and you'll have to start with a fresh application once you get back.I'm sorry to say that there's no way to put your account on hold. At least try and leave with 10-15 credits in hand... that'll make the revival job much easier for you.Regards,m^e
  21. Or simply been a naughty naught boy and done something such that the server doesn't like you any longer ??? Should be take that into account too ?
  22. Well.. not really - but you got lured into the trap nevertheless Here's a list of really cool software that were up for download on a site named mirskt.com - which I don't think exists any longer - but has been replaced by another yet-to-be-cooler one named mirsky.com .. anyway's here you go: Any takers ???
  23. First of all you don't need any programmers to be able to set-up a mysql database, but you certainly need access to the server box to be able to do so. No hosting service would allow you to do that, I believe, unless you buy-off a dedicated remote server from some service. Your only way out in such a case is to either:a. Use a paid hosting service - 90% of them come with MySQL pre-installed these days.b. Use a free-hosting service like Xisto or Xisto which has MySQL preinstalled and allows you to create upto 99 MySQL databases of your own, limited only by your disk quota. If you're planning to set it up on a Linux/Windows box at home - then simply go to http://www.mysql.com/ and download the appropriate binaries for Windows or Linux and install them on your system - and you're done. You'll find detailed installation instructions on their site - and it's NOTHING complicated, believe me With both windows and linux, mysql installation is a one-mouse-click process followed up by some easy configuration job...Regards,m^e
  24. This threads gone way more than I ever imagined. Keep going guys It's a terrific experience reading through all these stories All the newcomers - join in and share your stories too...
  25. Yep - there's a very very big difference. PHP is a scripting language that is used to generate web-pages with dynamic (changing) content - such as this forum. This board has been entirely written in PHP - but PHP has the ability to generate HTML web-pages, so what you see in your browser is the static HTML web-page. When you refresh this page, once again PHP updates wahetever is to be updated and generates a fresh page which is then sent to your browser as static HTML. Now where does PHP get all the new values or store all the old values (such as post, counts, credits, the actual posts themselves) ?? That's where MySQL comes into play. MySQL is a Relational Database Management System, or in plain words a Database Server than can serve databases online. This is the back-end of such forum software, and is utilized by PHP to store all sort of values in the background. MySQL is completely transparent and you don't see anything to do with it on these pages.. But it's running silently in the background and storing each and every little bit to do with this forum ... even the Shoutbox on top uses MySQL to store the shouts along with time-date stamps and usernames... Yep pretty much - all these online games use some form of RDMS (whether mysql, postgresql or ms-sql) - to store and update user & gameplay data in the background... Nope you cannot do all this on any & every web-host. Only the paid ones and a HANDFUL of good free one's like Xisto offer these features. Once you get hosting here at Xisto, you'll have access to 99 MySQL databases of your choice (you create them yourself as you wish and use them in conjunction with PHP to serve your pages).... And if you want to set up such a server yourself, a simple Linux server with MySQL, PHP and Apache installed will see to all your needs. Hope this clarifies your doubts... Regards, m^e
