Should I start answering ?? I have the solution for Quiz 1. I'll wait for others to put in their feedback. But here's a simple hint. Let the letters A and B represent the digits in grandma's age. So her age at any point can be algebraically represented as: 10A + B. Let some more feedbacks pour in, then I'll start adding in my own puzzles too Good going on that turbo. I'd planned to start one here for a long time but always slipped my mind somehow or the other.

Not really - early requests aren't really looked down upon. But in the end, you need to have the required number of credits before you apply for a package. Usually, if you don't have enough credits, you're told to make some more posts and re-apply once you've got sufficient credits. As a rule - any request made without the required credits are turned down rightaway. In fact, the system is designed in such a way that when you try to create your hosting account, it checks your credit count first and if found short, it doesn't allow you to create your account. So early requests don't really work out. If you're in a hurry, you should try and gain 10 credits and apply for the Package #1. That'll get you started and later on you can always upgrade to Package #2, once you've gained 30 credits on top of that. Regards, m^e

Umm - we've tested the edit feature quite a bit, but would you guys make some random posts and perform some tests for us ? Make some posts with a bunch of spelling mistakes, edit and see how much difference it makes to the credits. That'll be really helpful. We haven't found it to be much of a problem, unless you fill up a whole post with garbage and then snip it all out. Only in that case you're penalized heavily. If you add content, your credits should in fact go up.

Would You Ever Support Cannibalism ?
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to Cezphus's topic in General Discussion
Errrm.. Jeigh - you remind me of the Dish of the Day from Restaurant at the End of the Universe - the second book in Douglas Adam's Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy trilogy. Let me quote a passage from it: -
Oh I'd so totally recommend AI Roboform. I've been using it for over anyear now. As it's been discussed here - I don't trust the security that browsers offer - hence I don't like storing my passwords in them. As for Roboform - it gives you a wide variety of Advanced Encryption Algorithms to pick from. They include - DES, 3DES, BlowFish, AES & RC6 - none of which can be "hacked" by any easy means, unless you've a supercomputing cluster setup somewhere working on it day and night for months at ends. The nature of my job takes me to hundreds of different forums and company sites everyday - and I don't like the idea of keeping the very same password for all. Trying to remember all these would have been a disaster. That's where Roboform comes to rescue. It not only stores your login/password combos but also when you pick a sitename from it's menu - it actually fires up your browsers, takes you to that site and performs the login for you. Considering I need to do this over 2-300 times a day for various sites - I DO find the utility extremely handy. Moreover - it also stores your standard form filling info - so when you're signing up at some new site - it can fill your whole form in one-click. Excuse me - but I've to code/debug over a few thousand lines on an average everyday.. and every single keystroke/mouseclick I save up on goes towards giving my poor fingers some relief. SO WHY NOT ? As for any other software in this category that can give Roboform a run for its money - HELL NO. I've tried out a wide variety of password storage systems - and NOTHING comes even close to roboform in terms of ease of use and features. Hell - the SafeCards system it has, even allows me to store a lot of personal details of Banking related stuff - and as far as I've seen and experienced - I store them all without any hesitation. But all in all - one thing you've got to realize is that the master password you use to encrypt all your data stored using roboform has to be a long and cryptic one. But once again I say - WHY NOT ? If I don't have to go through the pain of remembering over 100 login/pass combos against remembering a single arbitarily long password - WHY NOT ?

MOUSE POOP - that's what they're called you dolt or maybe BUGGERS - if you prefer that. May I know why you're so interested in the NAME ? Here's a quick tip - since I spend some 17-19 hours a day with my computer, I've this crud accumulation happening almost every other day. It was getting to be a big headache. Now I have a totally smooth shiny table surface - and hence I've done away with the limitations of a mousepad. My whole table is my mousepad. So what I do is every second day swipe the mousing area with one of those aerosol glass cleaners and that keeps the mouse gliding over it. Once in a while I do the same for those tiny rubber studs below the mouse too. The day I started doing this - my mouse stopped pooping for good - although I gotta admit that it gets too smooth at times. You can send the mouse flying across the table with the slightest push

Carry on - installation adventures are always fun to read about - and you never know who it might help in similar problems in future. Also do post back any problems that you faced and actually managed to solve it on your own, along with HOW YOU DID IT. Simply keep posting original stuff and you'd have your golden points in no time.

Hi matt, On behalf of the Xisto staff - I extend you a warm welcome. Have a great stay here. As for the slow pace of the forum here, I'd made a big post exactly on this issue at Xisto.Com - our sister site. You might want to check it out: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/33681-topic/?findpost=230263 I've tried explaining the basic differences between these two boards and the pros and cons of both. Have fun m^e

I think you'd receive better help on this topic at the vbCity forums. Simply visit http://vbcity.com/ and make a new post there on the exact same topic. BTW, if you've got any knowledge of C# - you might want to take a look at this article. It deals with Word-.NET issues but using C#. Site: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Also these sites might give you some headway: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ https://www.devarticles.com/c/a/Cplusplus/Writing-an-MS-Word-Addin/ http://www.devcity.net/PrintArticle.aspx?ArticleID=89 http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/technologies/visual-basic-dot-net http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Is This A Windows Bug? Windows
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to saga's topic in Websites and Web Designing
There's nothing you can do in such a situation. The worms don't overwrite these files - rather they piggy-back them. And even if Microsoft knows about it - what can they do once the worm has already nested in ? NOTHING. As I said, your only option in such a case is to do a full reinstall. And along with that have a decent antivirus installed. I would suggest against the FREE ones. However good AVG and the rest of the free gang might be - they still lack in one respect - regular updates. Why bother man - where the health of your whole system is at stake. A good antivirus costs you around the $50 range.. and yearly license updates cost about half of that. Just go to this site: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and take your pick. I've tried a wide variety of them - and finally settled down for BitDefender. That's my personal favourite. In past 2 years that I've been using it - not ONE virus/worm ever slipped through. Switch To Astahost A very organized forum
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to michaelper22's topic in Web Hosting Support
Hey guys, I see a nice discussion's going on here and felt like adding something of my own. First and foremost I'd like to point out that both these boards operate on slightly different ideologies. Both have their own share of positive and negative factors. As it's been mentioned several times over - Xisto was established with a purely technical nature in mind - and that's how it's been raised from ground up. This has resulted in us being extremely picky about our members. More often that not you'll find people getting booted out within half-an-hour of joining. On the other hand, Xisto welcomes almost everyone with open arms - unless you prove yourself to be a real nuisance. Advantage of this is that Trap has a bustling community and way more members that we ever hope to have. When it comes to posting, while you're permitted to ask any kind of techie questions relating to your computer problems - if you want to take part in any ongoing discussions and put in your views - you've to be seriously technical minded. The kind of posts we seek have to be fact-filled and as informative as possible without bordering on SPAM. However, Trap is way more relaxed in that respect - you're free to discuss almost anything here - unless the content borders on obscenity. Quite naturally the general crowd finds this a much better place to be in - as the topics of discussion at Asta fall in a very narrow region. The above two factors combined, results in a lot more posts at Trap. The board is always on the move and very fast paced - something that we sorely miss at times. There are days at Asta which pass by without a single new topic being created. For the existing members that can be kind of challenging - for how long do you think you can keep discussing old stuff ? We're all humans and are always attracted to varied points of interest. As I said, things can get quite a bit boring and droll at times. Naturally, we've got far less posts that Trap. Then again - the slow pace of Asta has its own distinct advantages. It helps us monitor the posts in a more efficient way and any kind of SPAM is immediately weeded out along with the SPAMMER. But still, at times I feel that the members would really like things to hasten up a bit. Also, this enables us to keep the threads as clean as possible and information retrieval a much easier job. As for the number of moderators - it's NEVER a disadvantage. For big and fast moving boards like this - which puts severe stress on the monitoring aspect - you can never have TOO MANY mods. You need round the clock monitoring of the board to keep it as free of SPAM and other related problems as possible. And believe me, good moderators are quite a rarity. The less number of posts at Asta puts makes the job much easier and hence we have only a small but extremely dedicated group of moderators. Trap - I believe offers a lot more in the way of fun. It's not that we don't pursue the lighter side of life at Asta, but the kind of fun we have too can be seriously "technical" or rather Geeky at times. This is fine with our regular members but might not be too appealing to any newcomers with a different idea of fun. Last but not the least - one should realize that these two boards are not competing in any way. Both have their own way of running - with their own personal merits and appeal, but in the end both of them belong to the very same Xisto Corporation. Quite frequently you'll find mods and admins from both boards sharing/exchanging ideas on administration and helping each other grow. That's about it I guess... Best Regards, m^e -
Would You Ever Support Cannibalism ?
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to Cezphus's topic in General Discussion
Good going dude - this is going to the most hilarious discussion ever. As for me, HELL NO. I wouldn't support cannibalism at all. I mean the mere thought of eating your own kind - YUCK. Humans can go find 'n' number of other better sources for all those minerals and iron - but not fellow humans, please. -
Elevenmil Says Greetings

Yeah we've met before at IPBGaming.. One piece of advise - keep a watch out for Twitch too - he can be a serious itch in the wrong place at times B)Other than that, welcome to Xisto and have a great stay -
Umm.. most likely as you said - your IP got banned for too fast downloading and/or eating up too much bandwidth. Usually - such sites employ the BWShare ( http://www.topology.org/human/?a=/src/bwshare/README.html ) module for Apache, to block out IPs that are eating up too much bandwidth too quickly to prevent leeching. In normal mode of operation, BWShare simply blocks your IP out for a given number of seconds. If more requests are done during this period, you're penalized even further and the block countdown timer shoots up by a certain number of pre-fixed seconds for every request made. As far as I know - this blockage is not permanent and if you go back tomorrow it should be all fine. So try once again tomorrow and let us know. If nothing works, I might be able to give you some public proxy addresses that'll help you bypass this blockage. Regards, m^e

Is This A Windows Bug? Windows
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to saga's topic in Websites and Web Designing
It is a virus dude - you think viruses come in the form of exes and accompanying dlls ?? Whole lock, stock and barrel together eh ?It's one of those pesky worms. But there are millions of them which take up the same name as those processes. You need some good scanner to determine which variant it is.Windows of course will protect the processes which are important for it to run - there's nothing you can do about it, in such circumstances except for a full-reinstallation. -
Trouble Getting MySQL To Work With PHP5
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to NewGuyinTown's topic in Programming
If this is your only error, then your error-message clearly says what went wrong. See that using password: NO part ? That says you tried to access your database without using the proper MySQL root password. Hence access was denied. You solution is to pass the password along with the username while connecting to the server. If you have any further queires - feel free to post. -
Trouble Getting MySQL To Work With PHP5
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to NewGuyinTown's topic in Programming
You've got to paste more details of the script - at least from the part right before the mysql calls and the whole block of mysql code - else it won't be possible to figure out what's going wrong.
