Php because it's easier to learn and of course, it's open source. It works best with MySQL and I think it's becoming ubiquitous now in the WWW. It's almost a necessity to learn PHP when learning web development. And anyways, PHP is not Microsoft. Microsoft always gets something when they release their products and they think of money first and service only second. PHP and MySQL perform similarly if not better than Microsoft's MSSQL Server and ASP and both are free and opensource.

I've never tried any because I have a feeling that I'm somehow drawn to those kind of things and if I try even just a little I'll be hooked and I will lose control. I have tried smoking before and I still do occasionally (really rare only) when some of my friends are doing it and I feel the urge to somehow puff my problems and worries away. But smoking doesn't appeal to me that much and drinking I only do on occasions with friends and family and usually it's just beer (or wine depending on the company ) and I'm not a heavy drinker but I have a feeling I have tendencies of being alcoholic. Not that I like the taste of liquor that much or that I thirst for it all the time but I think it's because when I'm somehow down I like the occasional company of liquor. The heavy stuff I don't do like Marijuana or whatever else there are out there. It's just too risky to take those things and your betting your mind and body if you take those and chances are you'll lose. I only drink rarely and in moderation, I smoke only due to a geek's whim and curiosity but I never and will never do drugs. A geek like me is quite satisfied with chips and soda anyways.

Bluetooth allows you to transfer files from your cellphone to another cellphone as long as both have blutooth capabilities. If your CP has a camera you can transfer the pictures or other files to your friend's CP wirelessly. CPs before used Infrared technology but it's slow and won't work when there's something of an obstruction between the two phones. With bluetooth you can transfer almost all file formats and even with greater distance(depending on the adapter). I say you buy it if you have the money. By the way, most Nokia and Ericsson models that are coming out already use Bluetooth technology so why not choose among these 2 brands.

The Future Of Get Paid To Surf Industry Too good to be true...
leiaah replied to adriantc's topic in Business Forum
Eh I've been wanting to try services like these but most of these sites require you to have accounts in paypal. There's no paypal in my country so there's no way for me to 'earn' money through programs like these. I've been approved for Google Adsense but I don't know why I don't put up the banners. Maybe this Christmas break I'll put them up somewhere in my site. -
I've encountered the same problem before and I think the solution is to try to download brushes that were created using your Photoshop version or earlier versions like if you have Photoshop 7, brushes created using Photoshop3 might work but not those with PhotoshopCS.

Question~about Mysql ALTER TABLE `xxx` ORDER BY `no`;
leiaah replied to kakingho's topic in Programming
Are you trying to update the actual items in your table or just the whole table? Maybe Alter is not the right word to use, try UPDATE if you want to "update" or edit items in table xxx. I'm not sure with this one but you can give it a try.$query = "update xxx set field1='field1_entry' where ID='1' "; mysql_query($query); -
I remember my brother watching Pokemon on TV before. He was already in highschool then but he still watches it every week. I never really got interested in it, maybe because Anime doesn't appeal that much to me or it's just too cutesy-cutesy (with pichachu and the other monsters that are not scary).

Linux, Linux Users, Linux Community, Etc. Me expressing my hate for Linux
leiaah replied to dymondgurl's topic in The Vent
Our professor tasked us to install Gentoo(one of the most difficult) Linux a few days ago in a 1.2 GB harddisk! It was very painstakingly irritating because you have to boot from cd and type everything, every command including the partitioning, making the files system and compiling and installing KDE (it's GUI). There's no next button and no install wizard but at least it takes very little space. We never thought everything would fit into 1.2 GB of disk space but apparently it did! Installing Linux alone is far more difficult than windows and you have to rely on its manual to really get things right but once you get things done it is fulfilling. The GUI is fantastic! It looks like it was created using java and the graphics are super clean. Bu the most important thing probably about it is that it works really well even with an old x86 PC and 64 MB RAM. But then again you can't exactly bring your Windows applications to the system because they wouldn't work, I would probably have dual boot (XP and Gentoo) on my PC next time and install PHP, MySQL and Apache on Gentoo and the rest of course on Windows. -
Hey Leah! I'm sure you've noticed by now that we share something in common ! Incidently, are you Filipino? There are tons of us who share the same birth name here in the Philippines. Anyways, enjoy your stay here at Trap. The community is good and the service too. I'm sure you'll agree when you get hosted. --P.S. I like Lord of the Rings too. I'm a geek through and through. In your words, cya!

Oh Angel, your name matches your site!By the way, this might be off the topic but I can't help myself. There are two Leahs in the house(?) Hey Leah!

I like it, it's very dreamy! I like the way you use a gradient for the background and how it somehow blends well with your whole starry-starry-night-dreamy effect! The navigation is very simple and therefore not confusing. Your graphics doesn't eat up your site as well. The whole site is full (content wise) but it still doesn't look too crowded! Good work!

I created my first site using Geocities (I guess like most here). I used a template that looked a bit techy (night vision?)but later used the site's own file editor to create my site. I wanted to put up a site because I thought it would be cool but I realize now it's really not something to be proud of . The journey from geocities to Xisto was very long indeed. I don't even think PHP was born already when I did it.

Aaw! makes me wish I have someone too, geek or not geek. Nice story by the way.

My mother hinted that she'd buy me a new cellphone, nothing high-end, just a standard cp with sms and call functions. I've been wanting to replace my old one since I have it for 3 years already. My monitor is getting worse so I might ask her for a replacement, only I'd wish it would be bigger maybe 17 inches? Heh I want an mp3 player also but I think the phone and the monitor would do for now.

What Do You Think Of E-bay? any experiences?
leiaah replied to Peaktao's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Ebay is great! I got to buy my first digital camera from ebay and also a few second-hand but good dvds and books. I especially like http://www.ebay.ph/ and the fact that I'm bidding on items that are being sold by Philippine sellers and I don't have to worry about converting prices to dollar. -
Well let's see...before I got hosted here at Trap I've been to geocities(my first site is I think still out there), moonfruit(cool-sounding webhost but not free anymore), freewebs.com(no PHP support and 1 file-at-a-time upload), eof.httpserve.com(not available anymore), feewebhosting and I've also used cjb.net to cloak the domain. Nothing beats Xisto ofcourse. No other site offers excellent packages and PHP + MySQL support that's no BS and free. I have to always post in the forums though, not very easy since college(among other things) is keeping me busy. But hey you can't have everything.

Thanks for the help guys but I still get nothing. I've traced the code and I think the error is definitely in this line: setcookie("auth","1",0,"/","yourdomain.com",0);It's not set to 1 so it can't get here: if($_COOKIE[auth] == "1"){ $display_block = "<p>You are an authorized user.</p>";}If I don't get it right I'd be shifitng to use sessions.

I have Photoshop CS (version 8?) and I use it primarily to create layouts for my site (not very often). I have a separate software for editing pictures from my camera (Picassa2) since Photoshop loads slower than Picassa2.

When In Doubt, Cut Your Computer Into Pieces Interesting forum topic...
leiaah replied to Dooga's topic in Hardware Workshop
Poor guy! I would have googled it first before installing something alien to me! The only time I had "cut" something in my PC was when I installed a CDwriter and stacked it under an existing CDr. I asked my brother to do it for me of course. I'm always careful with hardwares so I always ask him to install them for me.The forum members are brutal! I'm glad people are not as brutal here in Xisto! If that happens I'd be more careful in my posts incase people find my posts stupid. -
Oops! sorry about that. I've changed it already but still nothing. In secretpage.php the IF condition doesn't get satisfied yet it doesn't perform the operations in ELSE too. So I think what's wrong is in here or in the cookie. <?phpif($_COOKIE[auth] == "1"){$display_block = "<p>You are an authorized user.</p>";}else{header('Location: index.html');exit; }?>

The code below is suppose to restrict access to pages without proper username and password. I've copied it word for word from a book I bought and I've tested it offline. I've already entered appropriate values in the database and nothing is wrong when I query. The problem is when I enter a wrong combination of username and password nothing happens when it should go back to index.html. Also when I correctly entered the username and password secretpage.php doesn't display anything. I'm guessing it has do with the setcookie function in login.php or maybe the header functions. I'm currently lost, has anyone had a similar problem? Index.html --> contains the form where the visitor logs in to access the pages. I don't think there's something wrong with this code. <html><body><form action="login.php" method="post"><table border="1" align="center"> <tr> <td>Username:</td> <td><input type="text" name="username"></td> </tr> <tr> <td>Password:</td> <td><input type="password" name="password"></td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" align="right"><input type="Submit" value="Login"></td> </tr></table></form></body></html> Login.php --> processes the form in index.html (The error might be from this file) <?phpif((!$_POST[username]) || (!$_POST[password])){ header('Location: index.html'); exit;}$conn = mysql_connect("localhost","root","xxxx") or die(mysql_error());mysql_select_db("samples",$conn) or die(mysql_error());$sql = "select f_name,l_name from auth_users where username='$_POST[username]' AND password=password('$_POST[password]')";$result = mysql_query($sql,$conn) or die(mysql_error());if(mysql_num_rows($result) == 1){ $f_name = mysql_result($result,0,'f_name'); $l_name = mysql_result($result,0,'l_name'); setcookie("auth","1",0,"/","yourdomain.com",0); //IS THE ERROR HERE? $display_block = "<p>$f_name $l_name is authorized!</p> <p>Authorized User's Menu: <ul> <li><a href=\"secretpage.php\">secret page</a> </ul>"; }else { header('Location: index.html'); exit;} ?><html><body><? echo "$display_block"; ?></body></html> secretpage.php --> page that is accessed when the visitor enters the correct username and password <?phpif($_COOKIE[auth] == "1"){ $display_block = "<p>You are an authorized user.</p>";}else{ header('Location: index.html'); exit; }?><html><body> echo $display_block;</body></html>

I think I found a program. My friend told me about MX Widgets, an add-on (sort of) for Dreamweaver MX. I googled it and I'm planning to download the trial version soon (now actually) since I'm already using Dreamweaver. From the Widgets website MX Widgets offers a powerful alternative to the regular HTML controls for Dreamweaver developers. Unlike standard HTML forms, our product relies on the power of the server side language and JavaScript to enforce an accurate and user friendly form completion: combo-boxes, date pickers, masked inputs, calendar controls and others. I think this is what I need: It allows the users type text in a dynamic drop-down menu and locates records based on the user's entered text. The field has an auto-complete feature, which fills in the first found matching entry. In order to select a record, the user can also use the down arrow key, or expand the menu

How Do You Say "i Love You" ? In your language.
leiaah replied to buileminh's topic in Dating And Relationships
Hey Starzer! I'm half-Ilonggo, half-Cebuano and all Filipino.Isn't "Ginapalangga Ko Ikaw" the Illonggo translation? or is it the Cebuano? -
Thanks guys for your suggestions. Tyssen...The textfield is the most tricky because I would have to make use of data from a database so it's very likely that I'd be having difficulty if I just use javascript and I already plan on coding with PHP. I agree with what you said, Windows IE does have its own autocomplete functions in forms but I don't want the textfield to include words that are not present in my database. I hope what I'm saying is not all gibberish to you.
