  1. =========================|| Happy birthday T r a p 1 7 ||=========================Warm regards to everybody here.
  2. I thought somebody would post about this and you did it. I understand rayzoredge, how annoyed one would be when they open Xisto forums and find lots of spam posts around. I have been a regular visitor of Xisto, I mostly spend time reading threads than posting. Two years ago I was attracted to this forum for the webhosting features it offered and a great forum it had. Now I feel, although the hosting features has got much more better, but the quality of the forums is slightly degrading. Anyway, that's just my thought. This tip might help your browsing experience here. Just ignore the user you think is posting lots of unwanted or spam posts. You can do that by going to the respective member's profile, there in "Options" drop down click "Ignore User". Thats it.
  3. "Size" is the actual value, you need to report that as the actual size of the files. "Size on disk" is the value after including fragmentation space and cluster size (set when formatting a drive). Fragmentation is the cluttered distribution of the files into different clusters and hence it takes into account the full cluster size even if there is only 2 kb of data on a 4kb cluster, for example. Since you are ultimately transferring it to a cd, you just make sure that the actual "Size" is less than 700mb (may be a bit more if you would like to overburn).
  4. Well, that depends on the CMS you are using. For example, in Joomla! you need to put that file in the folder which acts as the root of the CMS and not the server. That is, if the path to the homepage of the cms is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ then you need to put that favicon in the "joomla" folder and not htdocs. BTW on which CMS you did that edit.
  5. First create a small image (preferably 32 x 32 pixels) in any image creation/editing program. Then you will need to convert that into .ico format. You can use free online image converter http://www.converthub.com/ incase your program cannot convert it. Now rename that file to "favicon.ico" and upload it to the root folder of your website. That's it. You wil not see the changes immediately, as you may need to clear the cache of your browser. If you're using cache functionality in CMS then you need to clear there too I guess.
  6. Average surfers are better off using Internet Explorer, Opera is for pro surfers who need time saving features, cutomisability and easy user accessiblity. Thats all what I can say after using Opera for more than 4 years as of now.
  7. Hi, welcome to Xisto. Nice to see someone interested in sports and games. We usually have people here who are more into technology and computer stuffs. The first things you need to get started is read through the Read Me page. Then register at Xisto - Support with the same email you used to register here. Start posting and you will earn virtual money called mycents once you reach have more than 5 posts. You can use these MyCents to get free hosting here. Remember you will not be required to enter credit card details anywhere, its totally free. That's it. Enjoy your stay here. Good luck.
  8. Ash-Bash, how do you know gzip's not enabled already? Is there any method a visitor can know whether gzip is enabled or not? It would be nice if you could share the method. It seems that Xisto forum pages render faster in Google Chrome.
  9. Now you are even more luckier Andrie. Not long back I too coded this type of script. You can find the detailed tutorial here: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/62062-php-fetching-random-line-from-a-text-file-and-displaying-it-using-ajaxiframe/ I did those for one of my friend. There are two versions of it, one using AJAX and the other using iframe (if javascript disabled). The examples can be seen here: Random line fetcher using AJAX Random line fetcher using iframe I have basic un-styled versions too in that tutorial. Check that if you only want to see the code. The main php code is: <?phpsrand ((double)microtime()*1000000);$f_contents = file ("did-you-know.txt");$line = $f_contents[array_rand ($f_contents)];print $line;?> If you want to just keep it simple, you can use either of the core code (Pankyy's or mines) without any AJAX or iframes. Hope that helps. Jlhaslip you actually told about a tutorial link, but the link is a search result giving error page. Check that out.
  10. Well I think it would be a realty in future soon, as anything in the computer world happens faster than what is predicted initially. Quantum computers would help a lot to solve mathematical problems and perform operations which would take thousands of years by normal computers. Quantum Computers would totally change the current scenario. The architecture would be completely different, the hardware, the software everything. And that would call for more engineers to start learning from the basics. There would be so many questions. Once Quantum computers are out in daily life, yes, I mean they have to, nobody thought in the 60's, what it is today. How would the QC's interact with todays computers? How would they take over the internet with all that hardware and software problems? And would it ever transform into those PDA's, palmtops, etc?
  11. Welcome to Xisto kyle. This is a very active forum and am sure you will love to post here as you can always find one or the other topic which ineterests you. Yes you are right, Xisto is the best free host you can find on web. What's your script about? Does that take the players info like stats and stuff like that and displays it on the page? Because if the script is very resource intensive and perform operations very often you may need to look in for VPS (Virtual private Servers). You can host on them too for free, but you need to post more and earn more to keep your VPS alive.Wish you good luck.
  12. Yes, it does slow down at certain times, may be at the time when scripts update mycents. I have currently disabled viewing of signatures and avatars. Also I got Google Web Accelerator and all I can say is that the rendering and loading time have decreased a lot.
  13. Yes you got that right cyber_electrons. Actually it is calculated based on bytes. So what you call a 160 GB HDD is actually 160000.... something bytes. and hence when you covert that bytes into GB you get less value than 160 GB. I think its not the case with just Seagate, others do that too.
  14. In my case I was told that its been denied, but not in your case. In the email they sent me thier support email: support[at]kontera[dot]com and told to send the new website to that email. Regarding your case I just searched thier website and this is what I found: read this. This is what it tells: You can add more websites, so let the old one be like that only, just add the new one. Also just read this to confirm if your site complies with thier guidelines. Once you get the new code, enter that here in Xisto. That's it. Edit: Here is the Kontera's Knowledgebase site: http://amobee.com/
  15. Thanks SM. I would be sending them the new website link and add the kontera code also, because I didn't do that previously and that may be the reason for denial of the account.
  16. Starting a forum is easy, but developing and maintaining is what requires real patience which many lose very early. But you have done excellent job till now and I wish you great success with your forum in future. As an admin you will also need to learn lots of things like managing members, keeping law and order in a peaceful manner etc... I would highly recommend a website for you if you already didn't knew it, the website is https://theadminzone.com/. There are lots of admins, moderators like you who are maintaining thier own website forums. But once they are in theadminzone they are all ordinary members. They share all thier experiences from which you can know a lot of things. I agree with rvalkass, hiring dozens of admins is not a wise choice at all, afterall anybody would want to become one. In fact you would mess up with the administration system if you hire lots of them. I have seen some really nice forums which even after having a couple of hundred members, are still managed and moderated by the original owner.
  17. No?rayzoredge! Don't put your personal website in there unless your site gets lots of traffic and conforms to the Kontera guidelines. May be you are better off putting Xisto.com. I am telling this because my account has been denied as I had put the link to one of my websites which hardly got any traffic. You can read more about this incident here. I don't know what they mean by saying that my account has been denied. But I am able to access the account and also filled the tax forms. I have tried contacting them and right now I am waiting for their response. I had around 15+ dollars in that account. Just hoping that I am not dissapointed.
  18. Same thing here. I disabled sigantures and avatars and now it loads a bit faster and looks a lot cleaner than before. May be you people too can try this.
  19. This is the email I recieved today from kontera saying that my account has been denied. This is the kontera account which I am using here on Xisto. Actually, I entered dummy website address when I signed up the account. I had around 15$ dollars as of now. The ad data for the past few days has been empty. Why don't they (kontera) know that the account is being used on a distributed ad system. So, before I contact them, is there anything I would need to tell them? Has anybody else recieved this?
  20. The mycents show up once you have posted atleast 5 posts. Anyway its showing now. When you have 100 cents the script autmatically transfers your 1$ to xisto billing. It is not necessary for you to check there to make it update.Yes, you need 666 cents/month for that plan. Just for your information, you also need to spend 9+ dollars on one time setup fee to activate all the features in that plan. So you would be paying around $ 16 + taxes for the first time and then as usual.
  21. Yes, that's the same thing happening in XSPF's too, but the same problem, we have to manually add songs to the list. I was just thinking, if I would make a script to fetch the links from pls and update it on to xml. It may be a bit confusing to code it, but once done it should work perfectly. Isn't it? There are very nice and cute flash players playing XSPF. If this doesn't work out I would even try my hand at php, but the ultimate goal is to handle pls on browser. Anyway let's see how it turns out. And would have a look at your tutorial.
  22. Hi there, anybody with flash, flex, actionscript skills? Is there any way we can embed online radio stations into a flash file (.swf)? The radio streams are generally playlist files of .pls extension. Basically I want people to be able to listen music directly from website without downloading any kind of files and using standalone players for listening. I just cant figure a way to achieve this. Google search results in links to freeleancer websites who have posted projects to have this done for a price. Is this so difficult? No free resources on net. Currently the closest alternative I could find out was by using XSPF (pronounced "spiff") (XML Shareable Playlist Format). There's a flash player for it which does the job. But the problem is there aren't any radio stations which have there playlists in this format and none for which I wanted. So is there anyway to add .pls into flash or atleast any other alternative which lets .pls play on browser?

    Hello ^^

Hello Draxx, welcome to the world of freebies where you earn money here, spend it and weave your dreams. You will see cents, dollars eveywhere but none of it would actually be spent by you from your pocket. Well, it seems you already went through the read me link. From now on stop telling that your english is poor just because it is not your first language. There are people who inspite of having english as thier first language, post horribly bad like using sms lingo. Anyways good luck and happy posting.
  24. Welcome to Xisto, Cyberaz123. Your search for free hosting has finally ended. Now that you can get on to work, do post any questions you would like to ask. Have a look through the read me page. You will find your doubts pretty much cleared there. And if you have any questions about hosting you can find them here. And if you are even planning to get a free domain then have a look here. And happy posting.
  25. Is the hosting package for Xisto users upgradeable? Suppose I initially order Logic Plan of $1.95 per month with free setup and use it for about 2 months. Now instead of just buying more bandwidth for 1$ - 3GB can I totally upgrade the package to Logic PRO - $6.66 per month with $9.95 setup fee without disturbing any of the current setup including files? I actually did get the answer at Xisto - Support knwoledgebase here but I wanted to confirm it wether it is applicable to Xisto members too. Edit: If yes, do I need to just send a support ticket to upgrade or there is any link to go through.
