  1. To be exact its origin is in India.Yes Pranayama is considered the most effective, because most peole do it as it is easy and have benefitted. The other good asana is shavasana. It gives the body complete rest, relieves tension. I think i should post some good links on yoga.
  2. You can also try Opera USB. It even has portable email feature which saves your emails from web into the folder containing your portable usb. I have even written an article with some nice reviews from people. Check it if you want.
  3. Everybody talks about meta tags, keywords, good title names and how they can increase page rankings, etc. But I was wondering whether the page name itself holds any value in indexing. Yes, I am talking about the web page file names (some-thing.html) NOT the one which you put in title tags. I am going to express my views and want to know what you think is correct. I have seen pages named in various ways like these: 1) my_web_page.html 2) DoYouLikeMyPage.html 3) hey-see-my-webpage.html (I think this way is more appropriate) 4) this.is.a.page.html (somewhat confusing) 5) I dont know.html (I don't really know if this type of naming is possible or correct) 1) my_web_page.html: It seems to be the most favourite way for webmasters. I think it is used mainly because in olden days the server allowed only alphanumerical characters and "_" to name pages. But nowadays it is not a problem. I personally prefer "-" rather than "_" for spacing, because most search engine think "-" to be a word separation. What I mean is that when you name something like my_page.html the combination "my_page" is taken as whole word but not in the other case. But when it comes to search engines like yahoo and google they might already have set "_" for a space. 2) DoYouLikeMyPage.html: I opt strict no no for this type. First of all it makes reading the name difficult and also doesnt please the search engines. 3) hey-see-my-webpage.html: This is what I have been using all these days. It is clearer to read (but who reads page names???) and for the search engines. 4) this.is.a.page.html: Using full stops does make way for separating words but I am not sure about it. The only problem is in reading them, I some times confuse the last words with extensions (I have set to show extensions in my windows), otherwise its perfectly ok with me. And there might be still other popular ways for naming. I want you to joing along the post if you know them. What about Content Management Systems??? Edit: Sorry electriic ink, I was referring to the title when I was saying "This one really uses naming badly". Edited for future misunderstanding by readers. I have seen almost all php cms (I only use php you know) using either random characters or numerals as per databse table for naming webpages. Worst some cms don't even put meta tags/keywords/description and even worseare some which puts the same title throughout its pages. This takes my topic to end as almost all good sites are using cms and now I am starting to feel that file names hold no value. But one use I know of good naming is that it brings relief to users who bookmark pages and after somedays when they really need them they have to literally open each of the bookmarks to find it.
  4. Straight to the issue --> My php-mysql website is in final stages and would be replacing my current html website anytime soon. I have a contact form which uses send mail. Now I was wondering which one is better yahoo or hotmail (gmails is not webmaster friendly. What i like in these two are the blocking feature by ip name and domain name (I really want to keep my spam box clean and tidy). But Hotmail has this feature "mark it safe" or not. which can accomplish the same task more easily when checking mails. The only thing gmail lacks is this, otherwise it is superb. I want your opinions in using them in long term, that is any features required in future for my website and if they are offered by these. If yes which one and what. I need your (established webmasters) help. {Sorry for off topic, I have seen many websites not accepting yahoo or hotmail accounts but are accepting gmail accounts to register. I think because they are spam websites and they don't want you to block thier ip/domain (you know they keep changing emails and domains). This is just for info, what i have noticed.}
  5. You are probably running it from your computer without php installed. You can download software like Easy PHP, WAMP. Just search them on google. Then copy those files to something like www or htdocs in the installation folder and run the server.
  6. With this registry edit you can easily open the current folder in prompt without going through any Change Directory commands (cd). This is useful for people like me who are programming in JAVA, and every time to create class files and test them I have a diificult time just entering the commands in Prompt. But if you don't want to use this registry edit you can create the directory in C:\ drive like C:\files so you have to navigate very little in prompt. If you are experienced in regedit you can do it yourself shown below OR download the attachment and apply it. I tested this on Windows XP and it works. Just copy paste this code in to your favourite text editor: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\command]<BR>@="Open Command prompt Here"[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\command\command]@="cmd.exe /k cd %1\"" Then save the file as .reg extension and apply it. Before applying .reg extension go to "Tools" > "Folder Options…" > "View" tab and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types". Note:The code @="Open Command Prompt Here" will represent the text on right click menu (you can change the text) and @="cmd.exe /k cd %1\"" will tell to open command prompt at the current folder when it is clicked. Here's the file command_prompt_to_every_folder.zip to apply if you don't want to do as above. If you have any doubts please post here or mail me.
  7. There are some questions which can't be answered, as people from SETI build those antennas to detect some waves from other beings. We have to just wait.But I think there might creatures in other planet who don't need water, air at all.We can't be sure of anything. If someday they visit us, they may be surprised that we need water and oxygen as bare essential for life.And this topic would never going to end...
  8. Yes I agree with that, Pendrive will be affected with greater number of read write requests. But coming back to security, when you copy to harddisk and delete it after the work is done, the deleted data can be easily recovered by a software like "Restoration". So, it is important that the data should be securely deleted.And thanks for your suggestion of Wand passwords. I didn't even thought about it.
  9. Yes, similar to Thunderbird, but my reason for recommending Opera was, that we can surf, bookmark, email with just one application. It is essential for any portable internet user. And as long as we can keep our USB safe there are no security threats. It is safer than the installed applications as nothing is stored in the computer. But keyloggers are another thing...
  10. So you don’t have Internet in your home pc. But you have subscribed to those wonderful daily tutorials on web design by email. Now you find that you don’t have time to read all those mails because you have internet access through Office, Browsing centers, College, etc. You can’t read your mails leisurely at these places. The Problem: Unable to read emails at your leisure. The Solution: 1) Get yourself a Pen drive/Thumb Drive/USB Drive/Portable HDD first. 2) Then download the software “Opera 9 USB” from: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ It’s not the regular Opera package, that is you don’t need to install it to work. The download would be around 5 MB. Download it, it’s a Gift for you. 3) Extract the contents of the download to your Pen Drive. Neatly rename the folder to something like “Opera”. So if you open the folder you just have to double click “operausb.exe” to start your internet session. 4) Consider you have gmail account. To save those mails, first create an offline account in Opera. To do it, click through “Tools” at the top and click “Mail and chat accounts…” and set up a Regular POP email account by following On screen instructions and put your login details. For a gmail account put the following data in respective fields: Incoming server: pop.gmail.com Outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com. Actually it detects automatically. I request viewers of this article to post the servers for other providers. 5) Once done, it will automatically start downloading emails to your pen drive. You can see “Mail” tab at the left panel. If not enable it by going through “Tools” > “Appearance” > “Panels” and checking the “Mail” checkbox. You can also set the Placement of the panel present slightly below. So when you return to internet next day, you just have to insert your pen drive and open Opera. That’ it. You don’t even have to enter the login details. The Downside: 1) This may actually NOT appear as a downside for you. I tried with gmail, and saw that messages in spam folder don’t get downloaded. This is even good, who wants to read those trillions of spam??? 2) Some images which reside on senders server are not downloaded. When I tried it out, out of 46 emails containing images, 7 of them didn’t had those images downloaded. But the text will be downloaded whatever may be the case. Extra Information: You can also set an IMAP account in Opera. So that if you delete an email in Opera it automatically gets deleted in your mails server. I don’t recommend this for offline users.
  11. Open Any Unknown File with Notepad ************************************************************************ DISCLAIMER: The following contains registry edits. If done improperly can cause strange behaviour, and at worst, could even entirely corrupt your Windows Installation, requiring you to reinstall Windows. I cannot be held for any damage you may cause to your system as a result of taking any action suggested in the following article. ************************************************************************ Target OS: Windows XP Introduction: This registry edit can be very useful for Programmers and those who are often irritated by right clicking a file and selecting Open With/Notepad. This edit makes any unknown file type to automatically open with notepad. Just double click "default_notepad_opener.reg" and press OK if any dialog box pops up. So download the file here: default_notepad_opener.zip OR You can copy the code below into your favourite text editor and save it with .reg extension and apply. Before applying .reg extension go to “Tools” > “Folder Options…” > “View” tab and uncheck “Hide extensions for known file types”. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown\shell]@="notepad"[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown\shell\notepad]@="Open with Notepad"[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown\shell\notepad\command]@="C:\\WINDOWS\\NOTEPAD.EXE %1" NOTE: You can make any specfic file to always open with notepad, for eg for .php files to open with notepad, you right click the file, select properties and change "Open's with" application with notepad. But the registry edit described above is better. For Reviewers: You can tell me to do as written in the above NOTE. But it will create registry settings for each file type. So, when I worked with .php3 files it will create registry settings for that and now if I set for .php again another registry. You see it makes us feel cool when one registry does the thing (for .css, .js, etc). If some specific software’s have registered it (like Browser, HTML Editors) then those settings will be applicable. Important: This registry edit has only been tested on Windows Xp Professional edition. From Author: I think you've all done this edit succefully. If you have any doubts then mail me: dnitishkumar@gmail.com Better you post your doubts, suggestions, reviews here.
  12. I have some best bookmarks for you, compiled during my research for websites in Web Development, Education, E-books, etc. I have divided the bookmarks into 3 categories: 1) Bookmarks collected by me. 2) Bookmarks from Opera. For people with other browsers. 3) PC Magazine’s 2007 Top 100 Classics and Top 100 Undiscovered. Intended Users: The bookmarks collected by me are specially for Students (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology), Web Development Learners (PHP, Content Management Systems, Web tools), Personal Websites hosted by individuals, free E-Books. I liked the PC Magazine’s 2007 top 100 Undiscovered. It really has some nice links. You may just wonder why were they hidden? Download Bookmarks: 1) For Opera users: All the bookmarks are available as a single file for importing it into Opera browser here: opera6.zip 2) For Other Browser Users: Users of other browsers can download the html file containing all the bookmarks here: bookmarks.html Internet Explorer Users: After downloading the above html file. Go through “File” > “Import and Export…” and import favourites by selecting the html file downloaded above. The list is really loooooong… Hope you enjoy surfing the links in your spare time.
  13. Your one stop for game development softwares (mostly freewares) is http://www.ambrosine.com/resource.html, Believe me you will take more than a day just to surf the list, download it and understand what each of them does. ????[/tab] To get latest news, articles, tutorials on game development, visit http://www.gamedev.net/index.php?app=ccs&module=pages&section=pages&folder=&id=62 oops.... already posted above, but worth mentioning. [tab] Coming to developing games. Individuals are better off with small games. It really requires lot of work(even 2d). My experience with Game Development:(I've not included links, search in google with the keywords. You may even get tutorials on using it) 1) First with software "Adventure game studio". really cool for point and click. But I started creating mini RPG's with it. 2) After tired with that. I went with trial version of "Game Maker 6.1". It is most clean in user interface. Only for 2d game creation. It's REALLY SIMPLE. 3) I recently bought the so called "The 3d Game Maker". It costs!!!. You can't get trials, demos... Actually they say theres nothing currently in the market competing with them. Yes you can actually creat your own 3d adventure, FPS, racing.... But to my mistake. It leaves A "THIS GAME SHOULD BE DISTRIBUTED FREEWARE" on the game exe's i create. Huh... but anyway worth it. Who wants to sell games created with a very easy software. Huh no time.. will add more soon...
  14. Create an Undeletable shortcut in Desktop and inside "My Computer"! *************************************************************************** DISCLAIMER: The following contains registry edits. If done improperly can cause strange behaviour, and at worst, could even entirely corrupt your Windows Installation, requiring you to reinstall Windows. I cannot be held for any damage you may cause to your system as a result of taking any action suggested in the following article. *************************************************************************** Target OS: Windows XP ----------------------------- Introduction ------------------- These three registry(.reg) files given can make shortcut folder in My Computer and Desktop which normally cannot be deleted or renamed. This is useful in Internet Cafes where there should be some user folders which should not be deleted and easily accessible to user. In other case if you have some data/games/ebooks which should be easily opened from My Computer or Desktop but those children in your house delete them then this registry edit is for you. NOTE: Only the shortcut is not deletable. The contents inside it can be deleted. Carefully follow the steps given below: First download the attachment undeletable_shortcut.zip 1) newfolder.reg 2) foldermycomp.reg 3) folderdesktop.reg and readme.txt (contains this article for you to read offline) DON'T WORRY THE FOLLOWING EDIT IS VERY SIMPLE IF YOU JUST FOLLOW THE STEPS. newfolder.reg -------------------- * Open "newfolder.reg" file using Notepad. That is right click and select "open with" "notepad". * In this line: @="Appearing Folder" Change the letters in quotes to the name which will appear in Desktop/My Computer. * If you want an icon to be displayed on your folder add another line below this fourth line: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{FD4DF9E0-E3DE-11CE-BFCF-ABCD1DE12345}\DefaultIcon] That is for example if an icon file "book.ico" is in C:\ drive add [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{FD4DF9E0-E3DE-11CE-BFCF-ABCD1DE12345}\DefaultIcon]@="C:\book.ico" NOTE: The first symbol in the above line is "at" symbol in your keyoard. * Now in this eleventh line: @="explorer /root,C:\\Ebooks" Change the letters C:\\Ebooks by the path where your original folder is present. Note: 1)There is a space after "explorer". 2)There are two slashes in path name, for example in this path: C:\\Ebooks\\Shakespeare\\Hamlet. 3)The slash before root is the opposite slash "/". Save the file. Good! You've done. Now firstly double click "newfolder.reg". Press OK if any dialog boxes come. This will add the registry to your system. Then If you want the folder to appear on My Computer then run "folder_desktop.reg" or if you want to make it appear in Desktop run "folder_mycomp.reg". But if you want to make it appear on both run both the files. Enjoy! Now you have shortcuts which cannot be deleted. Creating multiple shortcuts --------------------------------------- If you want to create another shortcut firstly make a copy of all the three registry files. Then open these copied files using notepad. In many places you will see some long set of characters like {FD4DF9E0-E3DE-11CE-BFCF-ABCD1DE12345} This is unique and only applies to the shortcut you just created. So in all the three copied files change these characters by something like {FD4DF9E0-B3DE-31CE-BFCF-EBCD1DC12654} and then apply the registry. Remember the curly braces should also be present. Like this you can create many folders just by making a copy of these files and then replacing these characters by {FD4DF9E0-E3DE-61CE-BFCF-ABCD1DE45312}{FD4DF9E0-E3DE-11CE-EFCF-EBCD2DE13425}{FD4DF9E0-E3DE-12CE-BFCE-FCDB1DE23145}{FD4DF9E0-E3DE-81CE-BFEF-ABCD1DE12543} But don't type the alphabet after "F" as these characters are in Hexadecimal System. Important Notes -------------------------- 1) Every software or application in your system has a unique set of the above mentioned characters. In some cases(which is impossible) when your set of characters matches with any program in your system then you are overwriting that software key which may render the software useless. But don't worry as it is impossible in these billions of combinations. However, you can beforehand check the regedit by opening "Run" from start menu and typing "regedit". Now you will be presented with the registry editor. In left column navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID Here you can verify from the list of these characters. 2) You should note down the unique ID (for example this one {FD4DF9E0-E3DE-11CE-EFCF-EBCD2DE13425} but may differ what you typed). Otherwise you cannot delete the shortcut. 3) This registry edit has only been tested on Windows Xp Professional edition. Exclusively deleting the folder ------------------------------------------ You've done. But what if you want to delete the folder. You cannot delete it by right clicking the folder and choosing delete or by pressing "Delete" Key on your keyboard. So you should edit the following file: Using Notepad open "newfolder.reg", in the last line, that is: "Attributes"=hex:00,00,00,00 Change the number of zeroes to 4, that is: "Attributes"=hex:00,00 Now just open "newfolder.reg" to apply your edited registry. Now the folder's right click menu can have the "Delete" to permanently delete it. AND you techie guys if you find other ways of deleting the folder apart from the above edit don't forget to mail me. But don't be silly by telling that you formated your whole computer or partition just to delete the folder From Author: ------------------- I think you've all done this edit succefully. This file is elaborate enough to explain every thing carefully for the beginners. But you may be wondering why I have written a whole novel for a simple task. Always remember that in Registry the gap between Life and Death of your system is very very narrow. Any way if you read the article, you have already learnt a lot about registry. If you have any doubts do post here.
  15. What are those names? Are they really in Age Of Empires 2? I have scenarios like El cid, and other(I don't remember now, played a year back). Anyway, I liked this game very much, more because it was the first game when my new computer was brought. I usually create more villagers and some soldiers at first. You can see that by doing so, you needn't bother about resources later in the game, where situation becomes tight. I almost forgot how I used the tactics to complete all of the main scenarios. This game requires good rememberance, for example you are creating farms and then move some soldiers to oppeonent area and put some villagers on lumber, then select a villager to create a castle..... now you must have forgot to see the soldiers sent to opponents area. But fortunately you remember by the sound it beeps. Huh, there can be complete manual on startegies, tricks, and hints. This game really requires hours to complete unlike shooting games like QUAKE III etc. Recently I played the demo version of AOE 3. The graphics are so amazing with 3d look. Hoping more RTS's with 3d effect.. (I remember a complete 3d rts named HOMEWORLD part I and II, more about this in a new topic soon).
  16. I agree with your php+scripting language combination. I wrote the article only for HTML newbies who are creating say some 10-15 pages in HTML and want to provide navigation menu for all pages but finding it a herculean task to edit each page for adding another link. I would have also told about scripting language in my tutorial but it needs server side scripting and my idea was not that. In last para: Why do you feel that iframes are not nice looking. If your telling about that border in the example, you could remove it and make it look as if iframe has not been used at all. OR if you did it on your own and got a scroll bar in the iframe, that too you can remove by making the iframes dimensions bigger. And thanks for your review and comments.
  17. Firstly I take your advise of including Doctype declaration. Regarding iframes getting not indexed, I don't think so, because the page displayed by clicking links in it will be like any other HTML page with different meta tags and title. I think you are talking about the iframe itslef, that is the links inside iframe not getting indexed. The best solution is to create a SITE MAP. What do you think about this? I created this article for frustrated HTML developers who are mostly newbies and hence didn't talk about anything other than HTML. And my thanks for your kind review of my article.
  18. Pre-requisite: HTML, inline frame <iframe> tags 1 Attachment(.zip) included. Updates: 29-12-07: Doctype added in example files (Advised by jlhaslip) Designing a whole website takes a lot of planning and organization. Designing a proper navigation system is a basic step in building your website. If you are developing webpages in html you would have observed that as you go on creating pages it becomes difficult to maintain the links to the pages. This article will guide you in developing a common navigation menu for your website. It describes three ways, so if you don't understand one you can read the other. Navigation is a link system by which the user moves from one page to other in your website and creating it needs a proper method. When I was a beginner this was the first hurdle encountered by me and none of the books explained this concept clearly, so I thought of writing this article. Consider this simple site structure: Home Houses | House 1 House 2 House 3 Mortgage Rates | Bank 1 Bank 2 In this sample site structure if you provide the links of Home, Houses, Mortgage Rates in every page then the user can go to any of the three pages irrespective of the page he is in. But what if you want to add another page “Agencies”. You have to manually add this link to every page into your website. This can be a nightmare if you have 20 plus pages. Although there are many ways of solving this problem, I am going to explain the simple method. One great method is to create a menu which is common for the whole website. Hence pages can be added and its link can be added in just one menu to represent in the whole site. This method uses “Inline Frame”. Note that this is not the regular frame which is created with “frameset” tags. The tag used is <iframe>. The <iframe> container can appear inside the <body> element of the web page. For example Put this code where you want the menu to appear in your webpage, I like it in left side of the page. Note that you have to just add this code in to every page of your website for the menu to be displayed in every page. Now you have to create another page “menu.html” in which you will put all your links. Don't forget to select "Parent Frame" in the link type. For example, to link to page_1.html: You’ve done. Now every page has a consistent navigation menu. Important Note: The inline frames width and height should be greater than the menu you create. Otherwise the content inside the inline frame would appear cropped. Creating inline frames with Microsoft Frontpage: If you were unable to follow the method above you can do it in Microsoft Frontpage (Even if you can't follow this then download the example zip file). 1) Firstly create the pages of your website. 2) Then for the menu, create a new page and add the names of the pages. Highlight the first name, then right click and select "Hyperlink". In this select the page which should come when a user clicks that name. Also, we want the page to appear on the whole page, not inside the frame. So, select "Target Frame" in the same dialog and choose "Parent Frame" as Target Setting (This is important step). 3) Link all the pages by the above method. You've done it. Any doubts are welcome. Thanks. a_example1.zip
