I noticed the thread by many have going into customly built desktops, as long as you know what parts you need and their compatibility with each other so that there are no hardware clashes, really helps to save a lot of money since these hardware (motherboards, RAM, Graphics Card ... etc) are available in almost anywhere. I think you might have a typing error, computers 50 years ago might have 1 kb of hard disk space and now they have 1 mb of space? I do not know where I have seen him, now hard disks are getting spaces up to 1 tb, so I do not know whether you are refering to the same thing as me or not.

I am a J2ME programmer, and I am surprised there isn't any people in this forum just like me. You could tell me your problem, and I will do to the best of my ability to help you.The thing about mobile phones is that it enhances the concept of anytime anywhere. Now people can order movie tickets, chat with their friends while they are on the move, be it in the mass transit or in a shopping centre. Distance holds no limitation anymore. I do agree that there is a very strong demand for J2ME programmers and this is the industry which will keep on growing. The things to take note while programming on a phone is the small resolution like you have mentioned and also the processing power of the phone. You can't have a resource-intensive game on the phone because it would lag and spoils the user's experience

I think there is a problem with your creation of the array of Card type. The correct syntax of creating an array would be something of the following String[] aryStrTest; And lets not forget the part in instantiating the array so it would be something like aryStrTest = new String[20]; The thing about arrays is that it has a fixed size, so you really have to know how many elements are you going to expect, alternatively you could use a linklist class which accepts no boundaries with regards to the number of elements. But for that, you have to code it yourself. As for your DeckofCards: java:47: missing return statement error goes, beeseven is right, you lack a return statement, I am thinking that the method you created required you to return a variable.Have fun! I hope you have solved your problem.

Megaupload Reduced Their Download Limit Again! [resolved]
darran replied to DogEater008's topic in General Discussion
I think that all these file hosting servers like rapidshare.de and megaupload are encouraging illegal downloads of porn videos as well as movies. Many a times I have seen people downloading songs and such things. However if I were to use a file hosting service (I hardly use it though), rapidshare.de and megaupload doesn't work for me. Both of them are not very quick in terms of the download speed. Rapidshare.de for some reason does not allow me to download the files i want for some reason. They give me an error that I am already downloading something, the most funniest thing is that the ip they mentioned is downloading something does not belong to me but rather to the desktop. That is the reason why I do not like rapidshare.deAs for megaupload, it is way too slow if you are downloading anything. The maximum speed as I can remember with megaupload did not hit past 7 kb/sec. Imagine downloading something as much as 200 mb? It would take ages for it to be completed. If I were to recommend a file hosting service, you can try sendspace.com or ultimateuploads.com, both of which I find it pretty good to use especially if you are downloading something big. -
If you want something free and good, Filezilla is the way to go. Guess what?! It is open sourced, something which I am a huge fan of. Off topic: I am using more open sourced applications lilke Openoffice, float mobile manager, filezilla ... etc, they are just almost as good as the original paid applications. I have been using for quite a while, a little close and cramped in the interface but it is just a minor glitch on my part, I am sure most of you find it fine. Actually the configuration is pretty simple, they have an option for a quick connect for you, so whenever you want to access your FTP, just type in your details near the top (server, name and password) and you are good to go. As simple as that!

I guess you are right, many people are using old desktops as servers they put in their homes for storage nowadays. So whether it is an old outdated PC or something very highend and new, they always have a use for it. About the number of USB ports, Laptops are hitting 4 now and you can alway use a Hub to stick another 4 more in, and that would make 7 ports.

I wouldn't trust online storage for me, there is a chance that your personal things might get hacked and stolen. So for me it is a security issue, I am not willing to compromise my file integrity in this manner. Hackers are so advanced nowadays, it is not really difficult if they meant to steal or modify your files. Another issue would be the time taken to upload your files. My internet speed is only 512 Kbps, and its pretty alright to me, it takes forever to upload a 1 gb file much less 10 gb which is probably the size of my stuff if I want to backup something. A solution for me would be to connect 2 computers together (mainly a desktop and a laptop), connect the both of them via the LAN cable, making them visible on each other's network and with the desktop then sharing the files to the laptop or vice versa. Another solution would be the microsoft sharing featuring, I am not too confident about this, but has anyone actually tried it and had some good feedback?

I am sorry, but I feel you are stereotyping computer addicts. Who says computer addicts can't have a life? I spent lots of time with my gf and friends, I even play football regularly in addition to that I hit the gym thrice a week. So it is really unfair to be saying that we computer addicts do not have a life. I love working and programming at the same time, and you can't possibly do that on a piece of paper. The kind of people who are truly addicted to computers (or the internet really) are loners that can't interact with real people. This is just wrong, I have a lot of friends who stay on the computer the entire day but they have lots of friends and are enjoying interacting with real people. The final conclusion on this is that not every computer addict is as lonely as you say, they are not only close with friends they talk to online but also with their next day neighbours and pals.

Looks like your posts came in time then, it 'fixed' the server and everything is back up and running. Perhaps we could get an explaination as to why the server just crashed?

So it seems that the server we are using - Gamma is down? The other servers are paid servers or something like that?Once I get a credit card, I will definitely jump into paid hosting

That is where notebook act as desktop replacements. They are giant compared to the normal notebook, and I do not believe that is something which is going to be moving about, but rather placed stationary in 1 particular place. This is the notebook I saw earlier which I believe can be used as a desktop replacement http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ What do you think of it? It is definitely too big to be carried around.

Modern Style Sig Make this my new default?
darran replied to BooZker's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
I do not see any difference between the 2 signatures with the exception of the stroke on the 'Z'. Could you tell me what is it you have added to the signature? I think the one in your signature section is something which has a powerful image. It brings out your theme of your signature and message very well and clearly. -
I am on the computer all the time except when I am sleeping. I am a programmer so I spent my time doing work on the computer and i am a big fan of forums and especially blogs, occasionally I play games on the computer too. Not to forget listening to music, I think it is a must for me to be on the computer. How wierd would it be if I wasn't?

Looks like a barcode on a product and combining it with a little of grunge effect. I feel that it is lacking a little in 'meat', something to make it more completed in the centre, I feel that it is a little too plain for my liking but other than that, a good effort -
I find a laptop is slightly slower than a desktop, for me, I play most games on my desktop and some occasional games on laptop when I am bored. If you want to play high end games on your laptop it is definitely going to cost you a lot, since you have to do a lot of upgrading with regards to your memory and graphics card. Another tip would be to not buy a laptop with an intel extreme graphics card, or any integrated graphics card for that matter. It is always better to get an external one, so that you can upgrade when it is necessary. I got a Sony Vaio laptop a year ago. 1.73 gHz, 1 gb RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 6200 128 MB and on top of that there is a DVD+/-RW Drive, it is working great for me, I am playing all my games on there, a pity that it cost me so much S$2,700. But I am certainly not regretting it. With regard to internet connection, most of all the laptops in today's market if not all should have an integrated wireless network adapter for you to connect to a wireless network, so it should not be an issue.

I have never been a Microsoft oriented person, and when I tried Frontpage, I found it very limited, very difficult to customise a site which will be based on CSS and other things besides text and pictures. On top of that, Dreamweaver has a much friendlier interface and it keeps getting better, it is easy to edit compared to Frontpage. And like what was said earlier, it is very easy to integrate flash (.swf) and fireworks into dreamweaver as they are under the Macromedia suite. I have always been using Macromedia Dreamweaver to do up my webpages, never have I once used Frontpage to do any of my webpages.

Which Is The Best Search Engine? Serch engine?
darran replied to Shortyfly17's topic in Websites and Web Designing
In the past I always used Yahoo! But I have switched to Google ever since, they are really growing and on top of that, Google provides a more extensive search request on the internet IMO. GMail continued Google's dominance over Yahoo! Now GMail are having more than 2 gb of space on their account while Yahoo! still sticks to 1 gb. The only advantage Yahoo! has over Google is their entertainment, horoscope section ... the extras which they have included. A news site, a place to watch MTVs for free, and they also provide so many other extras like games, horosopes ... etc, but nonetheless, in terms of a search engine, Google is still the best out there. -
Definitely Final Fantasy 7. It is the best RPG game I ever played, I can't forget how many days I stayed up to play it, and fighting Ruby Weapon, took me close to an hour. If there was another game like this, I would love to try it again.

I have played both games and I can safely say that Pro Evolution is much better than FIFA in every aspect. Graphics wise, I find Pro Evolution more realistic than FIFA and on top of that it does not take a high processing computer to play it, whereas for FIFA the graphics requirement are slightly higher but it still does not beat Pro Evolution. On the gaming aspect, based on my experience with FIFA, there is always a pattern whereby you can score against the computer or vice versa, a 'cheat' if you will, this similar pattern does not make the game fun to play as there is no challenge for yourself against the computer, just that you are always going to make use of the 'cheat' to score past the computer 10-20 goals. I do not know about the current FIFA series, I stopped at FIFA 2003, before I moved on to Pro Evolution. Pro Evolution is so realistic and even the computer really provides a huge challenge for you. For e.g. in Pro Evolution where you execute tricks, it really has to be at the right moment or you would fail. While for FIFA, once you execute it, 75% you are sure to succeed. Also in terms of football, Pro Evolution provides a more realistic simulation of the actual game, the passes, tackles, dribbling and also even the game play. In conclusion, I would never touch another EA Sports FIFA. My alliance is with KONAMI and Pro Evolution

I am a believer of natural beauty, if there is anyone who likes you, they like you for who you are and not for who you are trying to look or be like. This beauty within yourself is unique, and if someone appreciates it, they will not regret it. There is no point in trying to be someone whom you dislike just to attract the other person. In this case, you are trying to artificially beautify yourselves not on the appearance but in your inner-self. The most important thing is to be filled with optimism, don't ever feel dejected if someone doesn't like you or not because I strongly believe in this world, there would be someone meant for you, be it here in your country or anywhere across the globe. You just need to pray and hope that this person would just appear in front of you one day.

I Need Help With This Guy..... HELP
darran replied to hotchick2121's topic in Dating And Relationships
Things really get ridiculous when these things happen especially when it involves a person you really like. You will be worried about your image to him, and how he would react to this gossip. And of course let us not forget the change it will do to your relationship as friends, things would be so awkward between you and definitely this is not the ending you would like would you? The best thing at the moment I think should be done is to get on with life, I am sure the guy would not just sit there and listen to a person's gossip. I think he would ask you whether it is true and at that point of time, you can say what really happened or anything which you deemed appropriate. In this case, I feel you should tell your true feelings for this guy. -
Does anyone own this phone? I am planning to get this in early October, because that is when my subscription plan with the service provider ends. I have been a fan of Sony Ericsson fans, their layout is simple and pleasing to their eye. And this phone with a 3.2 megapixel camera just tops it up for me. It is really nice to be able to have a very clear camera with you whenever you are. Saves a lot of money buying a camera.

What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up/ Get A Job?
darran replied to beastjordan's topic in General Discussion
I am currently in the field of mobile applications development. This is an area which I am interested in, dealing with mobile phones and I believe this industry is always going to be rising. I am in my last year in that course and after that, I hope I am able to get a job in that industry and who knows? In the future, I hope to be able to become a senior programmer. -
I am not a great gambler, I do bet on football matches but thats all. Gambling with card games for me is an addiction, I will not want to stop and that could cause me to lose all my money, so there is a way to earn money online without gambling, I would really like to try it
