  1. You've got to get an LCD screen. CRT monitors are out-of-date, bulky, and aren't as good of quality like you want as LCD displays are. Plus LCD screens are getting cheaper and cheaper every year, so it most likely wouldn't be too hard for you to get a good quality LCD screen without emptying your pockets completely. I have a Samsung SyncMaster 192n. It's 19" and it "was" worth every penny when I bought it. It's mabye 4 years old, and I'm sure you all remember what the prices on these things were like back then. This one cost me $600, but I was happy with it since it was one of the biggest. You could get a nice 17" for around $175 I bet.
  2. Hey poland55 I'm with you. I'm a Cubs fan too, and because of that, naturally I'm against the Cardinals. But someone's gotta win, and honestly I'd rather it be the Cardinals than the White Sox again, because last year (I live really close to Chicago) everyone was going nuts and most of the Cubs fans I know or even people who don't even watch baseball are like. "Screw the Cubs, go White Sox!"
  3. If you all haven't heard, there's a new energy drink on the market called Cocaine. It's been all over the news recently because of it's high levels of caffeine (I think it was 285 milligrams per can, which is like 3 times as much as Monster and Red Bull.) And since that rapidly increases heart rate, there's concern that it may cause numerous heart attacks. More off-topic though, 711 just told its franchises to take it off the shelves because they thought the name Cocaine was objectable, and since this stuff is only sold in 6 states, it's all over eBay as expected. Anybody had this stuff yet?
  4. That's greaaaat. The first time I heard that I almost literally died laughing. I mean imagine being that telemarketer; how would you feel? And I don't think they're allowed to hang up unless the person they're talking to hangs up first, so no wonder that guy was freaking out.
  5. I'm not sure how it ever got blocked. But for some reason now it is and I can't do anything.I've already got FireFox installed, even though I don't use it much. I'm not sure exactly how to uninstall Internet Explorer, and plus I probably won't be a big fan of IE7 if that's what I'm forced to download and install.
  6. I've looked elsewhere and can't seem to find any help on this. First off I tried calling Microsoft, which in turn told me to call Compaq because my computer came with XP installed. Great, but my computer is 2 years old and it's out of warranty, and HP won't do anything unless they can charge me $45 for a one time call for support, or pay $99 for a 1 year extended warranty on my computer, and there is no way I'm paying money for a problem that isn't major. Well anyway, as most of you who use Windows know, you need to go through Security options in Internet Explorer to enable Javascriipt, but my problem is that my computer's Internet Security level is set to medium as default, and I would put it lower but I can't. Also, the Custom Level button is blocked so I cannot go in and manually enable Javascript. I'm assuming that this has something to do with my Registry Keys, but I'm not too good with all that stuff. Does anybody have any information on this? By the way, I have a Compaq Presario SR1130NX computer.
  7. I've got a cheap iMac that I could definitely use for internet whenever I'm away from my DSL, especially since it's portable. Well it's running Mac OS 9.2 and since that's pretty old there aren't many updates or programs out for it anymore and Internet Explorer stopped updates a loooong time ago (it's stuck at 5.1) and I've got SBC Yahoo! DSL. I'd like to put the dial-up software provided by my ISP on this Mac, but it says I need IE 6 or higher and that's not possible since it's oudated. Is there anything I can do? I've tried a couple of alternative browsers like iCab, but that won't work and I can't get Safari 1.2 running. Help?
  8. Most people will probably stick with FireFox or whatever browser they have, because most likely they will outdo this version of Internet Explorer too. ANd the sad thing is Internet Explorer comes with every Windows computer and all the other browsers are more popular.
  9. I don't see why you should be pointing Albus out for doing his part as a member here. Although he may not be a moderator, he is a good member because he has supported Trap 17 for a long time and he points out things that a moderator would, when one is not around. He helps many people out on here and has wayyyyy more posts under his belt than you do, so it's not your job to criticize him. All the moderators here do a good job and it is a good thing that the members here are doing their part to help out.
  10. Mostly everone I know (actually everyone) uses AIM (AOL Instant Messenger. Yahoo! Messenger isn't popular at all around here and most of my friends would be lucky to have ever heard of MSN Messenger. I use SBC Yahoo! Mail (AT&T now) because that's my ISP, but its basically just Yahoo! Mail.
  11. Well most of us, if not the entire community here at Trap 17, know about Myspace. So what's the point in posting this (not trying to be mean)?
  12. Yep, that sure as hell won't work. Have one of your friends bring you up in a conversation and see what she says about you. You should definitely start talking to her more and invite her places with you, and you guys will most likely become great friends. Becoming friends with somebody is almost always the first step in a successful relationship, so give it a shot.
  13. How long do you think the traditional CRT TV will be around before it becomes obsolete and it is replaced by LCD and Plasma TV's? It seems the prices on CRT TV's are going way down and soon they probably won't even be sold. The same thing happened with video gaming. Before, every system used cartridges like the Nintendo 64, while the Dreamcast and Playstation stuck with disks, and after that cartridge gaming became obsolete (except with Gameboys.) What do you guys think?
  14. It's always best to advertise your site over the internet. But even though you copied everything above from another source, it's true for the most part. But the thing about contests and giving away things on your website got me. I don't see many sites do this anymore, except the well-known ones with popular forums, like this one.
  15. All computers come with PCI Slots. It's not a matter of being able to install it in the computer, but a matter of getting the computer to recognize and run with the soundcard installed. Just as a couple others above mentioned, I suspect your computer doesn't meet the hardware requirements, so you should check the box, and open up dxdiag (DirectX Diagnostics tool if you didn't know, open start-run-type dxdiag) and it will give you all the system specs. Compare them with the requirements on the box.
  16. I don't know what it is, but there's always problems with Dells. I know tons of people with Dell computers and they're always lagging on something performance-wise or something is keeping it from booting up. I think the only reason Dell is as big as it is today is because it spends billions of dollars on marketing and commercials. Taking over Alienware was just another step towards them dominating the computer market and turning it into crap.
  17. I know most of the new higher-end computers come with 1GB of RAM, but if you're looking for an average computer with about 512MB of RAM you can still find it. When I got my Compaq computer 2 years ago, it had 2 drives: CD/DVD burner, and a CD-ROM drive. It also had a couple of FireWire ports and a picture card reader slot, and it had 512MB of RAM in it. I bought it without a monitor and it was about $700 (reminder: this was 2 years ago) so depending on if you want 1 or 2 disk drives, your computer (without a monitor) should be around mabye $500. And unless you go with Apple or some office computer with a Windows server OS, you'll end up with XP for sure. A decent LCD monitor, mabye around 17or 19" will cost mabye $300-$400.
  18. You might be a hacker if... someone asks you for a Trojan (condom) and you hand them a floppy disk.
  19. Yep, just an example of why you should know what you're clicking on when you click on something in an instant messaging program, and especially you should know the person sending you the link. I hate the ones in AIM where you click on a link and it downloads something that sends the link to all the people on your buddy list, then the chain goes on forever if they click on it (usually they will.)
  20. Like jlhaslip suggested, resetting your router usually fixes any problems. I remember I had a problem like that and I couldn't get online, but when I plugged in directly to the modem, my connection was working perfectly. I'm not sure what kind of router you have (mine is a Linksys) but there should be a button you press on the back of it or mabye on the bottom to reset it.
  21. I agree that Audacity is a good program. I also use Wavepad to compress my Mp3 files. On top of that, the program also can change the bit rate, either to a lower bit rate for to make the audio file smaller in size, or it can encode the song in higher qualities as well. You can download it here: http://yahoo.com/
  22. There are quite a few good ones made by professionals at http://clantemplates.com/ You should check it out. The only downside is you have to register in their forums, but all their templates are free.
  23. Just one questoin: what's a teraflop? I've never heard of the work before, but it must be fast because it's got tera in the word.
  24. Nevermind, somehow I forgot to disable my on-board Video Card before I insttalled my new GeForce video card.
  25. I hadn't been able to play the Sims 2, and I figured out it was because my video card wasn't supported. So I went out and picked up a cheap GeForce FX 5200 ($50) and installed it in my computer. Well as soon as I turned my computer on, everything was normal. But I noticed the resolution was huge when it got to my desktop and when I went into Display Properties, it was the only resolution setting there. So I figured I'd install the video card drivers that came on the software CD. After that it prompted me to restart my computer, and when I did, everything seemed fine, up to the point where the Windows XP Welcome screen should appear. My monitor froze on a black screen, and didn't do anything else. I even tried restarting my computer, but the same issue occured. I went looking around online for information, and I found somewhere saying the same thing that it said in the troubleshooting part of the manual for the graphics card. Both said to download monitor drives online for the video card. Well I did, and still the same thing happens. Does anyone know what's going on here? By the way, I have my other video card still installed (right on the motherboard) and this new one obviously plugs into a PCI port.
