  1. hmmm. i think, even if i had billions of dollars, i would not pay that money for a dime.i bought a $1 coin in vietnam for $1. probably fake, but it was pretty good, and i spent it in the US. but i think i'd pay $.10 for it. no more.
  2. hey. i see your point, but is it really necessary to reset it? just wanna ask that question first ... if it's important number, maybe you should think about having another field to keep the "number" and keep the autoincrement for uniqueness.anyways to answer your question - i've delt with this before - only thing i could think of quickly was to drop the table and recreate it. that'll definately reset it )
  3. yah there's no way he did it. its sad that this kind of stuff even makes it to the press. someday, these women are going to realize that it really makes a difference to real victims if they keep doing this. of course, is "fondling" really a crime, anyways? i mean, i don't think there is a law against it. sure, i reckon it's harrassment if she says to stop, but shheesh ...
  4. i think the death penalty should only apply to adults, i guess over 18 years old. there's a lot of study's done about age, and you can't make good judgement about anything when your brain is still maturing - basically you don't know what you are doing. since the death penalty is really a "final judgement", i think it would be wrong to give this punishment to people who are really kids. kind of sad, actually.
  5. i guess i'd be completely bored. the other day a tornado hit, and lost power for 2 days. it was wierd, because i actaully met some of my neighbors that i never met before, etc, because we were all sitting around outsize (much too hot inside) looking for something to do. in some ways, i think like would be much more normal without the modern conveniences that we have now.maybe i was born way to late !!
  6. i think you probably erased them. that's pretty wierd. i picked up a canon powershot a few years ago, and pretty happy with it. i took it all around the world, without a computer, for a year. a 64mb card gives you like 500+ photos on a low resolution. awsome.think about just a few years ago, you'd have to carry around like 20 things of film - totally unmanagable. i love the new cameras.my next buy is a digital camcorder - if i can get some money.
  7. not sure in vb, but have delt with these problems before. if you are comparing the values, i'd suggest either checking their hex or unicode values against eachother. the real problem with japanese is shift-jis is not a "standard", it's more of a thing. IBM/Microsoft, etc, have their own shift-jis codepages. so it makes this stuff really difficult, because who's codepage do you load?sorry, but you're in a whole heap of trouble )
  8. it's been about 10 years ago since i was in college, but at the time, you wouldn't dare take a computer to class (in fact, not too many people actually had them). times have changed though, and i think it's likely becoming a lot more likely that more people are taking them to class...but, it doesn't matter. the good thing about not having one in my dorm room was that you get all the answers and talk to more people in the computer lab. guess i'd have been more of a hermit then if i had my own computer.
  9. in australia, the government aid organization - kind of like USAID in the US, would not take donations from gambling organizations - i guess they had enough money, they thought they'd be "selective" - the same BS as above. it was really nice to see that when the tsunami hit asia just recently, they lifted that "sanction" and took money from tobacco and gambling. but this isn't the first time i've heard of charities rejecting from certain other places - it's rediculous.
  10. guess i'm getting to be an old one in this group -- 27 yrs old. it's kind of strange all these really young people doing all these really good websites. i'm impressed. like, when i was 14, i didn't even know what a computer is. the first time i was on the internet was in college at 18 yrs old. hard to believe things have changed that fast!
  11. i reckon it's all fake too. but i don't know, i would doubt it, but then again, i personally saw the video. that's as real as it comes hahaha.
  12. i use the one that's built in with microsoft, so i don't really know which one that is. it appears not to work well at all. i've got all kinds of crap installed on my computer from the internet - one of which uses like 100% of my processor until i kill it. so i think i should look into something other than the microsoft one. it should prevent all that adware from being installed, i think!!
  13. Some people are really wierd. it's kind of wierd to think that someone can get all upset about something like that. and i have to deal with these kind of people too. its really annoying. sometimes you just have to think is this really worth getting upset about.
  14. what an idiot!!!!!!!! if that's a true story, i wouldn't be surprised... people would go and make a story in the paper before actually talking to the kids to find out what's going on. surprise surprise!
  15. i doubt that they would actaully go after the "little guys" who download 1 or 2 movies, would they??? or even 10-20 ... i can't imagine.i'm not sure what to do ... anyone have any more information? now i'm scared of the government coming after me. really though, who's going to care? like, my friend got $300 stolen from his ATM account, and the police dont care. it's only the companies (ie credit card companies) that care.
  16. centrino's good for regular users ... like using spreadsheets and going on the internet, etc. but for any sort of processing, it just sucks bad. it's super frustrating if your trying to maintain any sort of constant performace, although it is a laptop, and not a server, it's still crazy.but i think it's a decent standard, and it'll help maintain the life of the computer ... if that even makes a difference anymore.
  17. i was debating to overclock and decided against it ... i mean, i'm curious what you all are actually running, because let's face it, is it really worth it? sure, you can increatse your performance a little. but really if your running something so enormous where that would actually make a difference, why not just get another processor???? maybe i just don't understand ...
  18. yah you all are very lucky. i'm in australia and have a whopping 56k dialup for literally $30/month. and that's as good as it gets here.it's rediculous... instead of charging a flat fee for however much you want to download, like the crappy aol and msn dialups, they charge 9.95 / month and make it out to be a great deal, but in reality you are charged for downloads, up to 29.00. and there's no way to keep it down.i'm with dodo now, and i hate them. i made the mistake of downloading an installer they let you download, and it's put a virus on my computer ... i'm so angry, but have no choice. broadband is only 29.00 / month!!!!!!!!!! but they friggen charge the downloads, so it turns to be 60.00 - unless you don't download anything.
  19. dunno. listen, smoking is really bad for you ... having said that, i think it's completely rediculous that the government charges such a high amount of tax on them... it's like 80% tax. the US has gone to wars for less before (mmmmmm remembet the boston tea party in elementary school?)anyways ... i really wish it wasn't bad for you, because it makes you feel so good. that sweet thick smoke soothing your body ... making you feel good ... tell you what though, it complements a beer really well. i remember ... we'd sit around talking about what to do next ... have a puff or a swig of beer. that's the delema.
  20. the pictures gone now ... anyways i'll join in and disagree with valentines day. i really don't know, but was it really created by Hallmark? i wouldn't be surprised. the cold hard facts are that girls do care about it and yabber to all their friends about it. so if you don't do anything, your basically screwed. that's the whole scam.
  21. i think the best quote so far that i've seen of this is definately a quote by the australia char to the republic org "who cares" honestly, who gives a crap. i mean, firstly, these bozo's are all what, born to a higher class than anyone else??? this is the 18th century??? maybe this will be an excuse to shut down the monarchy, finally. oh well, thank god there's not this rediulous stuff in the US.
  22. i know, for sure, i'd have a job working outside. now i work with computers ... so i'm lucky. i always think i was born about 50 years too late, but then there wouldn't be computers. it's my life at work, and my life, unfortunately, at home ... makes me a bit of a geek, i suppose.the world would likely be a hell of a lot more simple if there were not internet.
  23. I'm from the US, and really love college football, and can mostly give a crap about professional football. But the superbowl comes, and it's time to watch the game, every body gathers around, etc. it's always a lot of fun. now, i do not live in the US and it just passed without barely a hint. i'm not disappointed either ... who gives a crap. as for college football, that's a different game altogether ... it's more fast paced, exciting, and the results aren't so predictable. that ... and you can run lines like the option/wishbone, which you can't do in pro football.
  24. I've never thought about it until now, but I guess it's going to become pretty important in the future to have some form of standard for documents, spreadsheets, etc. It would hopefully be in XML and the suite app that opens it would interpret it. Would make a lot of sense ... not sure, there may be some work going on for this now.In a few years, it'd be nice to see other companies being able to really compete with Microsoft ... they've sucked the blood out of too many companies and people. I shouldn't be talking like this, as I hold some M$ stock ... but they're not going anywhere either.
  25. It was only 3 years ago, I went to Cisco's main office for a demo if their voip systems. They were ok, but not at the level where you would buy it and install it at your office ... too risky. If an email server goes down, people can accept it; but if the phone goes down, that's a different story. Now things are different; the technology is better. At the place I work, there are voip phones on every desk - they plug right into the LAN. Overseas phone calls go over the WAN, so there's a huge cost savings. On another note, i spent like $10 on a 10 min phone call from Vietnam to the US; then I find an internet phone, which was pretty choppy, but doable, and it was so minimal that I could talk for however long I wanted and not worry about the cost.
