  1. last movie, air force one. that was about ... what ... 7 years ago? haven't been to one since. i don't know why, it's just not something that interests me, especially when you can wait a few weeks and buy a dvd for the price of 2 movie tickets .. or rent it for a few $'s.i'm totally put off by the price of a stupid movie ticket!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. probably when i took a ferry over to morocco, which is a pretty odd place, and was walking around in the medina, which is even more odd / scary. then a woman attacked me with a knife and a guy comes and punches here, and she runs away. she didn't stab me. then the guy follows me asking for money for saving his life. i didn't know at the time, but this is a typical scam they run over there. i was terrified though!
  3. I guess the firefox is really nice because of the pop up blocker, it really helps. i've been doing my website with straight html, very simple, because people around the world use so many different things, it's very frustraiting. i'm agrivatted that there isn't a real standard, even with all the w3c stuff, etc. i reckon the only thing to do is to give up and do basic html, if you have a wide audience.
  4. interesting ... i've been out of high school for about 10 years now, but i think things have changed quite a bit. a few years ago, at my old high school, they put a new addition on it, which was all glass (about 3 stories high) and someone shot out all the windows. he had to pay up something like $50,000.
  5. netscape has one ... i'm not sure if it's still out there (it's harder and harder to find) but used to be at developer.netscape.com and it was fantastic ... and you can download the whole thing as well. I can't find it anymore (thank god i have it locally!).
  6. Not sure which version of mysql you are running, but anyways, mysql defaults to try to do a "best guess" for you, instead of throwing an error. for example, a "not null" integer field, when a null value inserted, will put a '0' in there for you. anyways, see doco for Configuration Options ... but here's some quick info:
  7. hi ... i'm thinking of doing the same ... some jsp pages someday (for now i'm doing some other things). but for your Xisto site, what is your webpage? you mind if i have a look? so what kind of things did you have to do to get the setup?
  8. Yah it's cool but i'm still looking for my favorite childhood games ... played on the atari (i'm not THAT old) ...like pitfall / pacman etc. anyone know of a good site with these old games - possibly to download??
  9. no doubt it's john grisham. my first one was "the rainmaker", from then out i was completely hooked. let's see, books turned movies: the firm, the pelican brief, the runaway jury, a time to kill, ... i'm sure there are others ...next in line, robert ludlum. and yah, i'm loving the bourne identity/supremacy movies!
  10. Thanks! those links are really good. I'll post my agent when it's finished. Once you start looking at the software for it, it's pretty easy. Just a lot of regex's. Any perl freak can make one!
  11. That's perfect for what i want to do! Where does the mail function come from though, is it OS specific? Anyone know? Wondering about how to set that up?
  12. That's cool - i'm just learning too. Now you can add CGI module, and makes life easier!! so you can replace things like "<br>" with br not sure what the other benefits of it are ... [br]#!c:\perl\bin\perl -w[/br]use CGI qw/:standard/;[br][/br]use CGI;[br][/br]print header;[br]print "<html>"; # unsure of the cgi rep for this.[/br]print br . "Hello" . p . hr . "World";[br]print </html>";[/br]
  13. Been looking into bots a little bit - some are really good, with lots of answers to questions, etc. This one is great - unique, it doens't respond with words, but with graphics. http://www.virtualbartender.beer.com/beer_usa.htm If anyone has some good bot websites, please post ...
  14. Yep, thanks a lot. i'll will give it a try. It's really rather challenging ... maybe someday xlst will support this kind of thing? ....
  15. i want a simple way to pass a variable to a xsl stylesheet. has anyone had any luck with this?i basically want to grab a variable out of the URL and use it for an xpath expression to parse out a xml doc. seems rather difficult unless you've got some heavier tools ...
  16. i was trying something similar but no luck. really, to be able to host yourself, you just need internet access, right? like, if i had a cable modem, there's nothing stopping me from throwing a webserver on and hosting it? i tried with a 56k modem, and it worked good. going to the next level with ip addresses, etc, gets tricky - haven't worked it out yet.
  17. The key thing to remember is that the css will save you enourmous amt of time as far as maintainability. It's also quite simple, so it's worth having a look. Really no benefits of marking with html, other than if you have a 1 page website.
  18. has anyone had any luck with any of these ppc's? it all seems pretty dodgy to me, and i'm trying to work out a way to generate some money (just enough for storage), but i'm not sure about these. it just doesn't seem right, any ideas?
  19. I use sametime at work, but anyone know if you can use yahoo's messanger integrated with sametime? somebody was telling me this was possible.
  20. i'm just waiting for the day that none of this will be free anymore ... when that happens, there's gonna be a lot of people without email. it's going to happen someday too - everything comes at a price.
  21. yah, i don't know. i'm from the US, and live in Australia now, been all through europe and asia as well, and the big difference, i think, between the US and Australia is simply that in the US there is a greater understanding of what's going on politically with their country. so many australians can't tell what a shadow minister is, how the prime minister get's elected, etc. there's annoying stuff too - i pay my taxes here, and so much money get's thrown away on absolutely stupid things which would cause riots in the US. like the baby refund, countless TV advertisements paid by the govt, drunk driving billboards, etc etc... in reality it's politically more like france ... that said, it's probably the most beautiful and pleasant country in the world, and yah, the people work to live (big difference with the US). overall way more laid back ... but get a lot done. i like it here...
  22. I just did a google search on the web, and went to a lot of pages looking around and came across it. i think it came within the first 2 pages or so, and i was other people saying good things about it ... so i figured, might as well give it a try!
  23. I've used it once ... from the mysql website, you can download the perl module for mysql, or if your on windows you can find the PPM for it (as well as the dbi/dbd which are also needed) Once you get that going, it's a piece of cake - all the same code between mysql/oracle/etc. Can't help that much because i'm behind a firewall now, but if you do ppm search, you can search for the modules to install.
  24. I always hae a look at this website > http://www.webdeveloper.com/advhtml/ You can find pretty much anything you can think of, as far as web development in there. Enjoy ...
