there's no doubt that i'd be a travel writer ... that would be the coolest job ever.- i love to travel and i love to write stuff ... actually, i'd probably be a web editor for a travel magazine. that way i could keep in with all the web stuff and still be able to do the traveling and writing. that would be just about the ideal job. in fact, i'm trying to get there... this kind of stuff just takes a little bit of time.. )

just so you know ... this actaully made international news. but ... at on that note ... it is an important issue that needs to be addressed more. i think i'm changing my views, in light of the pope's death, that there is something to be said about nature, god, etc by going through suffering. now, of course, easy for me to say when i'm not the one doing any suffering. i do, however, believe 100% that they have the right to terminate her life if that was her wish. i don't care if it's from a gun or not... it shouldn't even be an issue.my point is that, from the pope's lessons, that suffering a part of life ... you shouldn't run away from it. actaully i don't have a concrete thought now, but i'm not against suffering.

for windows, it's extremely bad for your computer - every windows server should be rebooted at least once a week... for your desktop pc though, i would imagine the same ... there are so many memory leaks all over windows. hence, the famous blue screen of death ... which in fact i keep getting with my new xp system. i hate it!

Dell Is @ It Again and this time, its good
eiteljoh replied to xboxrulz's topic in General Discussion
huge! i love it. wasn't too long ago, in the US, wal-mart started selling a linux based OS system for $500 (since i'm not in the US, i can't confirm that - it's just what i read.anyways, i'm very happy about all this - mostly because i've been fed up with microsoft for a while now - for obvious reasons. when 99% of all home computer users require 1) web browser for email and surfing 2) dialup capabilities (ie a modem) 3) some sort of software for spreadsheets and word processing (ie openoffice).no more! so this kind of stuff is going to catch... -
i'll make a tip for you, since i just went through some learning as well.#!c:\perl\bin\perl -wuse CGI qw/:standard/;this will also help with the Xisto website when you get going.1) you'll need to change the 1st line of your perl to: #!/usr/bin/perl -w2) make sure you keep using the CGI init the way you are... i spent about 3 hours trying to fix what was happening, and got really confused about it ... but i had use CGI qw(:standard) ; #-- BAD!!!i have no idea why, but it works fine on my computer.

i had a blackberry at one time ... it was not the one with a phone, but listen, life is not good when you have a mobile phone, pager, and a blackberry with emails. i was a complete disaster ... my boss emailing at 10pm, calling, paging, etc etc. like, i like work ... but that's a little overboard ... especially for my first job out of college.well, safe to say that drove me over the edge, and i quit and traveled around the world for a year ... hey, so it wasn't that bad.what i'm trying to say is sometimes all of this stuff isn't necessary and it'll wind up driving you crazy.

Html Form Help Please finding a form script
eiteljoh replied to iwuvcookies's topic in Websites and Web Designing
hey - sounds like exactly the purpose of a "form" ... you should be able to have all that textarea / fields in your form, then click submit, and the next page will analyse and make your code. very standard - i always refer to http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp as a good place to find this information. <form name='go' action=process.cgi> <textarea name=stuff1></textarea> <input type=text name=stuff2> <input type=submit value='go!'></form> This will send values of stuff1 and stuff2 to process.cgi. hope that helps - and hope it's kinda what your talking about ... -
it is very sad, indeed. i really didn't know how spectacular of a man he was until some of the news coverage today. his life was very tough at the start, and he's really done a tremendous amount for peace. i think he kind of reached out to all people, not just catholics, which is very honerable. he's the only pope i've ever known - he began his popehood (is that what it is?) when i was born.

there's no doubt that japan committed very serious crimes 50+ years ago - some of the most serious in modern history. times have changed quite a bit though - and japan is now a free country without it's oppresive emporor systems.it's time to forget about what they've done in the past - it was a completely different era. The US, which is responsible for defending Japan today, is considering pulling it's forces from Japan and let them manage their own defence. The problem, though, is that their constitution only allows them to have peacekeeping forces, not a real military (which is why you see Japan Peacekeeping in Iraq, not Japan Military)They are no longer a threat, unless the world continues to put Japan on the back burner and their economy goes up in smoke. Then anything can happen (as with any country).

100 Gigabytes Of Mp3s? ...in Your Pocket? wow
eiteljoh replied to Dodger's topic in Science and Technology
wow... being that my work computer is only 9G, that's pretty incredible. someday, when the prices go down, i'm gonna get one of those ipods which play movies and pictures and stuff. that'd be pretty cool to travel around with too. -
Brain Chip Reads Man's Thoughts want one? :P
eiteljoh replied to serverph's topic in Science and Technology
i'm pretty sure if i were paralyzed, i'd be closely watching this. i mean, we wouldn't be able even use a computer if paralyzed, life would be completely different. good for them. i can just see it now, though, you get spam or some crap in your brain ... or someone sending signals to make your body do something, and there's nothing you can do about it. sounds like a science fiction book or something. -
well, i bought microsoft stock 3 years ago and i've lost about 1/2 of it's value. so ... i've not been too happy with it. actaully, everything i've invested in hasn't done to good. i'm hoping though, in 15 years, that microsoft stock will be worth a little forturne. as much as i disagree with so many of their products, they are a money maker.

Finger Found In A Bowl Of Chili! Eeeeewwwwww
eiteljoh replied to elevenmil's topic in General Discussion
you hear about these things and don't really realize some of them are actually true. that's disgusting. especially when you find it by chewing on it.now, for the lady who found the chicken head in her chicken, what do you expect! 100,000 is rediculous. take a few free meals, put on a few extra pounds, and call it a day.this person who chewed on a finger, i think they're gonna get some cash from wendy's to shut up. 100,000 sounds good ... and they can make threats if they don't get the money - like go on all the talk shows, etc.i'd chew on a finger for 100,000!! -
i would have to say that this was likely done from within. it must have been a family member (or someone very close to the family), someone who was comfortable enough with the location to 1) know where the girl slept 2) know he could do it and get away with it.likely this person has a history of crimes, including rape. it's escallated to the point that he's comfortable with what he's doing now. and this could include a family member ... raping the girl for some time now.well, that's my profile, built solely on my faithful watching of law and order and csi.pretty sad state though... the girls gonna have some problems in the future.

was thinking ... i was in colorado during the columbine shootings there ... and i've been thinking about this kinda stuff ever since.i wonder if this is something that's always happened in the past, except now with internet and 24x7 news, etc, we hear about it. i mean, back in the day before all these cable news channels, they did local news and national news. I wonder if this stuff just never made the national news before. at any rate, i strongly think all this has to do with the pressures kids are under nowadays. also, they eat total crap all the time (get fat, lazy, etc) . i think diet has a lot to do with your body and mind.i feel bad for his grandparents

Sony Offers Pizza Feature For Hungry Gamers
eiteljoh replied to talbotda13's topic in General Discussion
This is quite concerning isn't it. you would think, you'd be proud to offer a product that enriched people's lives ... this just doesn't do it. i'm assuming though, that they've done test market studies to determine if people would actually do it, and apparently it was well recieved enought to actaully go forward. i think it's really sad. is the real world so boring that you can't get up, even to a phone, to order one? like, i like to program, and work on websites, but you can't do it all the time. there's an entire world you will miss out on if you don't. -
im from the US, but living overseas for about a year. gives you a different perspecitve, i guess. i think, although it's against the rules of the topic, i'll vote for the US. i've been out of the US for over 2 years now, and it's definately more fascinating when your gone for a while.if i were to vote for anohter country though, it would be spain. an absolutely fantastic country. there's so much culture, landscapes, etc. i've been lucky to spend some time there ... walked 750km on the camino de santiago ... and basically went to all the big (and small) cities. many many fond memories. i'd love to go back (and live there) sometime. hopefully.my only objection is many of the older ladies in northern spain (basque country) we're very mean to me alot. like, once i got kicked outta this ladies grocery store because i picked up an apple with my hands!!!!

wow. in the US it's the same, budget airlines coming from no-where. i'm always concerned, even when flying with United. im always worried they'll shut down, and not only loose my flight, but also all the frequent flyer miles.really, they'll have to change their name if they do continue to operate - nobody will buy tickets from them after this.kind of funny article though ... the "hardest hit" passenger was going to a curling something???? that's the game with rocks and ice???? good grief!!!!!! you would think it would be someone going to visit their dying mother and had to buy a $4,000 ticket or something ... not having to get another ticket to a curling game. that''s rediculous. i guess canadians really like it.

A Very Grim Discovery 41 Bodies Found Shot, Beheaded in Iraq
eiteljoh replied to spawn_syxx9's topic in General Discussion
that's totally un-concievable. i think it's kind of a last ditch effortt at getting more reaction from the world. almost like an "this is what to do before we loose' type of thing.i just can't imagine what it's like for the families of those people. it must be absolutely horrible. i think bush understand this, but he has no choice. what can he do now? he can't back out, and he can't wage more war. it's a really bad situation. i wish we didn't go back into iraq, i don't care how "liberated" the people are now. it's not worth it. they should have stood up to their dictator and liberated themselves - it's their fault, as a collective society, that they were in this mess, as sad as it is.i hope we've learned a lesson from this (but, as history will show, it will repeat itself again in the future). -
mostly, people forget how valuable life is. especially in america, where life is pretty comfortable, and in general on a day to day basis, you don't have to worry about dying. there's millions of people who would do anything to have a regular meal - like this guy did every day. it's really sad it comes down to this kind of stuff. i don't reckon anyone with a solid head could remotely understand this guy.

Bittorrent Client What is your favorite BT client?
eiteljoh replied to snlildude87's topic in Software
i use bittornado and in general i'm pretty happy with it, but i don't use it very much. my friend uses azureus which he says is really good, but he's gotta cable modem and does a lot more downloading.yah, though, mine freezes up sometimes as well. and i don't even leave it open for a long period of time either. -
yah you bring up a good point. but also, any kind of disease, be it bird flu or something new, has a real and true risk of wiping out masses of people and traveling around the world. so it's a real problem.on another note, there's a whole bunch of media around a few deaths from these "rare diseases", however, how much is published about the 1 million + people that die each year from malaria in africa? not a heck of a lot...
