  1. When it comes to making abstract classes your really just making a class to derive other classes from. But it that really more efficient?I mean yesfor the programmer life becomes much easier when you can just derive classes from others, but honestly for the computer it is very inefficient. Take this example:class Shape{ Shape(); double Perimeter();}The class "Shape" has a constructor and a member function that will return the perimeter of a Shape object. Now to derive further along the heirarchy you get class "Circle":class Circle: public Shape{ Circle(); double Circumference();}By the standard paradigm the Circle class constructor class should call the constructor of the Shape base class. Now how is that efficient? The computer has to call the Circle constructor everytime a Circle object is created and then also has to call the Shape class constructor. The more functions that have to be called the slower the computer can run so if everything in a system is based upon the idea of deriving classes to make programming easier you have to spend more money on faster hardware. If you just had the program have less function calls the program can run much much faster, but everyone says Object Oriented Programming is the best way to program. But that's only from a Programmer point of view not a computer's point of view.
  2. Yes the green is actually amazing I think. The only that could make it better would be like a 1 pixel black border around the edge of it to give it that polished look. But I'd give it a 9.5
  3. I highly recommend using Webroot's Window Washer. The first time I used it on my computer it was running horribly taking minute upon minutes just to start up and things. When I ran the washer it actually cleared 1.1 GB of crap garbage from my harddrive. All that garbage was temporary files normal cleaners don't get especially the one that comes with windows in the first place.
  4. No I say the Itanium 2 server processor is better because it actually is a true 64 bit processor. The AMD 64 sitting in your computer right now is actually only a 44 bit CPU. The Itanium proved that a real 64 bit processor could be made, and by the way Intel did make the first 64 bit processor, AMD just m,ade the first windows compatible one because it was only 44 bit instead of 64. So yes a 64 bit processor is definitly better than a 44. And if AMD is so much better than Intel how come mainstream merchants like HP, Dell, and Compaq use Intel? And the whole reason people post here is because they have an opinion and obviously you just said Intel sucks in all forms because AMD is better so why not follow your own advice?
  5. Yeah the different speeds of the RAM will have a difference when the system is being taxed, like in a newer PC game, an MMORPG, or something else that is a resource hog. Most of the time if your just browsing the net or typing some stuff in word or listening to Winamp, etc. You probably won't notice the different speed a lot of the times because I know in my experience I haven't noticed the difference much in normal day to day activities. But it is definitly the good idea to use the dual channel part of the ram but then you need 2 modules of the RAM. because that way the RAM's work is split between the two of them kind of like an SLI setup on video cards. And yes SATA hard drives are much faster than a normal IDE HDD, and honestly with a socket AM2 you could probably even go with a SATA II HDD since they do have a new version of SATA on the market I thought last time I checked but with as new as that mother board is I think it supports SATA 2. All in All thanks for bringing up your concerns because I didn't realize the socket AM2 boards supported DDR2 RAM, I need to get me one now.
  6. Honestly in the end I think the Consoles will win out over PC's in this game. I say this with confidence because yes the computer is actually more powerful than the game consoles but it cost way more money to stay up on the edge of things to have the best experience because Computer game are made to their own specifications rather to the system. A console game is designed to work perfectly on the game console it's running on meaning you will get great video quality, sound, no choppyness because the game won't ask more from the console's videocard than is there like a computer game will. Pretty much PC games are better normall than a console game but a console game will always run better than a computer game. And it's very much easier to buy a console and not have to worry about hardware than to go and buy specific pieces for a computer and then hope it works with no bugs. And most people wouldn't know what anything does inside a computer so why would they try and replace something just for a game?
  7. There is reason for that issue you just brought up. See 2 separate processors are slower than a dual core processor because of the architecture connecting the 2 cores. With 2 spearate CPU there is a alot of space between comparativly speaking, with the a dual core processors the CPU's are practicaly on top of each other. And with parallel processing like that the close the two CPU's are the faster they will run and the better they will perform. Not to mention an Intel Xeon is not as good as a Pentium class processor. But also you were running AMD 64 in the other system. A 64 bit processor definitly handles precision better than a 32 bit like an Pentium it has more space inside to handle longer decimal points. What a long number is to a 32 bit processor is almost default length to a 64 bit. So you take 2 64 bit processors and place them so close together (i.e. on a single chip) you will definitly outmatch a pair of Xeons. Now try taking an Intel Itanium 2 against your AMD 64 x2 3800+. The Itanium would kill even 4 Xeons. And as for Pricing: The AMD 64x2 4800+ is priced at about $632, the AMD 64 FX62 (Which is better than the X2 4800+) retails at $1199 The Pentium D 960 is priced at $564, the Intel Itanium 2 which is the best Server Processor in the world right now does not list a price because it is very expensive. But AMD does not make server processors.
  8. If the PS3 is keeping with the same DualShock design then no it's not better, sometimes thing just have to change. After 10 years you need a new design in technology the same old same old gets old.The Wii controller is definitly a huge step in getting the game industry out of it's stagnant state of old games being replayed over and over again with new characters with the same goals. With Nintendo pushing for a more interactive game system I feel they aren't winning the console war now, but come the next systems (After the 360 and PS3) I feel that Microsoft and Sony are going to wish they had followed Nintendo's example. Because eventually people are going o get tired of the current stuff.
  9. The system wars all come about in the first place because companies are more worried about selling their system and keeping people there than making the games.Honeslty why do you think so many games nowadays just suck? Because companies are trying to pump them out as fast as they can so they can say they have the better system for people to play on. Sewriously if you game companies make their games up to what they really want them to be people will I think stay on a particular system just because a certain company makes good games. Take Polyhony Digital they take a bout a billion years to make each installment of the Gran Turismo series. You know why they can get away with that? Because companies know that if you let that team take their time they will put a visually stunning game that everyone will buy. (Honestly they add more to it if you ask me yeah putting a bunch of new options is great now if only those new options weren't so limited)If there was only one console manufacturer making a system they could really focus on making it great then just not let them make first party games. But that won't happen because America and Japan have become to Corporate for their own good.
  10. Pretty much I've seen a lot of forums with all the cool features and the cool layouts and all that stuff but in the end Xisto does have more content than any other place I've seen. A lot of intelligent people come here to post their thoughts and discoveries, which is cool because I learn a lot all the time you know. But I have to give kudos.
  11. Well most computers are already able to use their equipment to connect to the internet via the phone or cable lines. So that means they go from computer to the lines outside back to another computer. They've made the technology so easy to do everyone has it now, so I think it would about the same or maybe even easier to connect to a telephone rather than switching the signal back into another computer.
  12. See one of the big things is, how are they supposed to know when you install the program in the first place? But I think with the new Windows OS, Vista, coming out real soon it might change things in the P2P community drastically. It has this thing called Trusted Computing Platform that Microsoft as well as other big companies like Sony, HP, Intel, and all those people helped come with to help get rid of software piracy and other things. All this being hardwired in the equipment (meaning you cannot remove it without modifiying your mother board and stuff) they could probably tell when your trying to install a bad program. So if Kazaa happens to get blacklisted then we don't get to use it anymore if we have Windows Vista. But there are still some rumors going around by some top people in the industry saying that this might not apply to Vista in the end.
  13. Here is the article in quotes so I hope that is allowed since it's in quotes. If not the URL is at the bottom sorry. My take on this issue is that one of the policemen in Toronto is worried about his job being harder because it's now a lot harder to trace criminals because of the specifics on Wireless internet technology. Scott Perches mentioned Child Pornography as a big issue in today's society. I say that why take down people distributing it on the internet, when you could take it down at the source by looking harder for the people making the films in the first place. Because if it's illegal to distribute the stuff then it must be just as illegal to produce the stuff you know. But the second crime mentioned is that of Identity Theft. The main problem with that is that companies and people are putting that stuff on the internet in the first place, why? Yeah it's cool to do things over the internet but don't put things in public or even semi public places make things secure on the site where normal people can't get to. Because from my understanding many ID theives aren't hackers at all and if the information was in a better place in the first place a lot of thefts would be prevented right there because not everybody who's malicious on the net is a hacker like many like to think. Notice from Dooga: Sorry I had to change the topic title to prevent it from stretching the forum too much
  14. Yeah really the image is really crisp and clean all the lines show out in just the right way as to catch your attention but not hold it.The only thing I might look at is your text in the middle the above and below reflections as it were seem to be to visible. Maybe bring them in more towards the center text and drop the opacity just a tad more. but 8/10 definitly.
  15. I bet by now the program is done and over with though because they said they only had so many slots available for use in the public. So once all the slots are gone no more public beta testing. Although I definitly would go and test it, it can't have to many bugs left that are major I mean the Beta has been out for the MSDN subscribers for over a year.
  16. Besides knowing Bill Gates he has a big lock on his computer so how anyone could hack his computer system and then steal the OS it's running on is very hard to imagine ever happening on anyone's computer. Because if Bill Gates had hiw own edition of Windows he would be the only one to have you could never find on any other computer.
  17. I've found after a lot of installing and uninstalling Defraging a hard drive will speed up thing very much, mostly in opening and running applications.Although some games such as Guild Wars make a lot of fragmented files on your drive because of they update the game data. I would like to know if anyone knows of third party defragers for Windows because I've realized the one supplied with the Windows OS does a good job but could do better but doesn't.
  18. I am Definitly a huge fan of Dee2 although I am sad with version 2.2 that they have right now they changed the reverb effect in the plugin and no longer have the cool BeatBox club reverb anymore its just club and it's not as good in my opinion. But I like to use Simply Surround sometimes because it makes your 2.0 or 2.1 system sound more surround like by playing the sound out of the sides of the speakers and giving more treble to project it a bit more. I just wish I could use a lot of Winamp effects in the Video Games I play.
  19. Yeah you could have a pair of Binoculars that can see two miles away, obviously the Scope on a Sniper Rifle can see that far away so it would be very easy to make a two lense version of the scope. But as far as Government Technology goes, no the Government never actually makes the stuff but they contract companies to make top secret things like weaponry or vehicles that aren't available to civilians at all whatsoever.
  20. Yeah as far as I know that whole thing about the Vista beta going is true because I've seen my fair share of downloads for the thing some of them being the newest build Microsoft has. But unless you have an MSDN subscription it is illegal to have. Because the real download is supposed to only be available to licensed subscribers to Microsoft's Development Network. Plus it's still a beta OS anyways so I'm not to sure how good it would be.
  21. I can understand why you might have added the red so much on the left side of the image, since the Cactus seems to have the color embedded in it, but I think you added a bit too much red because to me it seems overpowering. But I did like how you made the picture.
  22. You've done what I like to see artists do with digital imagery, lighitng effects. The lighting on the faces of the renders blend extremely well with the BG of the image I think.Plus you have an extended border on the top and the bottom of the picture to give it that nice Widescreen look. Overall I think you did a nice job.
  23. Notice from KuBi: Copied from http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Warning issued.
  24. Well I've been playing GW for a while now this is an MMORPG, with Full 3D graphics comparable to WoW (World of Warcraft). The game itself costs around $50 u.s. but has no monthly charge for play online. It just had a Sequel/Expansion come out last month called Guild Wars:Factions. I say Sequel/Expansion because you don't have to buy the original in order ot play Factions but if you have both you get bonus'.Overall the community is really trade centered you have to have a lot of money to get the good things in the game and some items you get are worth quite a bit of money on the market. One of the things I like most about the game is the idea of Dye. There is an assortment of base colored Dyes: Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Orange, Purple, Silver and Black, all of which can be mixed together to create new colors. But you can add these dyes to any part of your armor or weapon to change it's color. But Dyes are a hot item on the market when it comes to Silver or Black.I suggest everybody go and try this game it's an RPG experience worht taking time out of your day for.
  25. I remember seeing this article but I do believe it has been resolved since then but I could be mistaken afterall. It was a big deal but it isn't that hard of a hole to fix really if you know how it's done.
