External Wireless Cards, The Pros And Cons
FirefoxRocks replied to keri-j's topic in Computer Networks
I think that external wireless cards are a great idea. They give better signal range and also improved detection. However, you mentioned the computer is a laptop. Usually laptops are used with internal wireless cards. At least that is what they sell most here. It's your choice, but I do recommend external wireless cards (although I never used one before).By the way, why would it be a hinderence in a car? -
Yes, I believe this technology is now available.Google Office Pack is also available. Write, SpreadSheet, GMail, Calendar, etc. is Google's own office tools.

So using a proxy can override some sites thinking that you are in another country.127.0.0.1:9100 is port 9100 on your computer. It can be used as a proxy, if you have the right software to configure it.Some websites actually BLOCK users for certain countries? OMG

Three Html/ Css/ Javascript Tutorials
FirefoxRocks replied to GM-University1405241492's topic in Websites and Web Designing
First of all, HTML should never be used for formatting! The "bgcolor", "bordercolor", <b>, <i>, <u>, <font> tags and attributes are REPLACED by CSS 2 and deprecated. Also, we should now learn XHTML, not HTML anymore. XHTML is the next generation of the web, it will replace HTML. <marquee> is NOT a valid tag. I don't know where you got that from, but it doesn't work! Sure, it LOOKS like it works in Internet Explorer (it might too in Firefox and Mozilla), but use it and run your page through the W3C validator! It says it is an incompatible tag or whatever. Please learn from W3Schools or Web Development Lessons if you want to learn this PROPERLY! -
It's just another horoscope related article. Maybe it's true, maybe it isn't.Enough said.

I haven't been paying much attention to my Google Analytics account.I don't see any negatives associated with Google Analytics, unless you DON'T want Google to index your site.

More explained tips: 1. If rounded boxes go with the design of your website, use them. Rounded boxes should be for "happier" moods on a website. I think they look cool. 2. Stay on your site's topic but branch out on similar topics. You may want to create a DHTML menu for easy navigation to the subcategories on your site. 3. Try to stick with CSS for formatting. This way you can avoid typing that much and people will load their pages a little faster. 4. If your site has a special feature that people view a lot or that people use a lot, attempt the make a Firefox extension or Opera Widget for people to see/use it in the browser. 5. If possible, provide 3 languages of the content on your site. Help international users. Not everyone speaks/reads English. 6. Link exchange with other webmasters of similar content can help. Email them and ask. Provide a small button (80X15) or something similar if possible.

Tips for increased productivity, popularity, traffic and quality of your website I have some tips for webmasters building their site: 1. Use affiliate site surfing programs (e.g. galactic gold, traffic battle, chain reaction traffic, etc.) with caution (approach with yellow light). I've tried surfing through those, it was BORING! Most sites through those are money making sites, other affiliate programs and well, you get the idea. It may be worth a try, but I don't think it will bring much more traffic, other than clicking the "number" after 30 seconds while glancing at the front page loading 2. Define your site's purpose clearly and effectively on your front page. Also, use appropriate pictures, colors and content on your home page to attract visitors. If your site is supposed to be providing content, make sure people know that. If your site is for your pictures, be sure that you show that. Ask friends to check out your site. 3. Popular features should be added to your site. Make sure most of the features link to your content. Add forums, blogs, communications stuff and more to your website. You can add Free SMS Service to your website, it is done in PHP, I don't know PHP, can't help you with that. Anyhow, Xisto and Xisto provides an abundance of space to popularize your website. They are the best free webhosts I have ever seen. 4. Put your URI (URL) on business cards, brochures, presentations, posters, etc. Anything you can create with Microsoft Office and OpenOffice that relates to your website and/or is appropriate to put your URL in, DO put it there. 5. Add your URI (URL) to forum signatures and email signatures. If possible, use an image to convey the message. Many people do signatures for forums for free, just ask! Email signatures should be text, they shouldn't be more than 30 bytes of the message. 6. Google AdSense can help you make profits (with ads on your site). Use the ads sparingly on your site, don't go overboard with them. I hate sites that have Google Text Ads in the middle. 7. If you are willing to spend money on Google AdWords, go for it! Again, consider limitations. Google AdWords are blockable by Firefox Extension - AdBlock. And not very many people look at them. Just giving you two sides to the opinion. 8. RSS feeds can be helpful if you have frequently changing content. See the W3Schools website for instructions. 9. Absolutely NO pop-ups, large blinking flashing colourful ads, automatic installation of "things", or anything else to drive away visitors. "Things" can range from spyware to add-ons to extensions. If you have a domain name, get a good rating from TrustWorth/GeoTrust and McAfee SiteSdvisor. 10. Develop appropriate add-ons, extensions (for Firefox) and programs to help you grow your website. 11. Word of mouth advertising. Tell people about it. 12. Browser compatibility. When Internet Explorer 7 comes out, it will provide better XHTML 1 compatibility. Make your pages XHTML valid. If you use a WYSIWYG editor, now is the time to learn XHTML and CSS. Your site should be viewable in different browsers, not just Internet Explorer, Firefox and/or Opera or your favourite browser. 13. Optimization. Speed up the loading of your pages if they are slow loading on dial-up. Reduce picture size and avoid big ads and tables for designing. Use CSS and specify image dimensions (height and width). If you use tables to store information, specify width in pixels or percent. Don't use tables for the layout of the page. 14. Entertainment. Provide sources of entertainment and/or appropriate entertainment on your website so people don't get bored. That is all the tips I can think of right now. If I find any more, I'll either do an edit or start a part 2. I hope this helps. Feel free to reply with your tips.

I have used Windows Live Search for that contest that MSN hosted a few months ago (can't remember if it was a year). It works if you have the BETTER keywords to search with, otherwise it doesn't work that well. It is my preferred ALTERNATE search engine (my favourite is Google+Yahoo).MSN Search doesn't work that well. It doesn't come up with that many results and Yahoo! generally searches better than it. I don't use MSN Search anymore. After all, Windows Live Search will replace it! :)MSN (Microsoft Netowkr) will become WLSN (Windows Live Services Network)

I don't use Xbox however I prefer the XBox 360.

Nudity should be allowed ANYTIME on television for artistic, medical, sports, educational purposes.Adult Entertainment should NOT be allowed on regular cable channels and if it is, it shouldn't be during evening hours. It needs to be past 10 PM (giving timezone changes a thought)Nudity is normal. We need to accept that. Adult entertainment is a completely different topic here.

First of all, analyze:1. Is this really efficient and effective?2. How fast does this work?3. Is the site trustworthy?4. Is this really worth my time?5. Payment methods? After that evaluation, if you think it is worth joining the affiliate/money making program, go ahead. If it really isn't that good, rethink about the plan. You don't want to waste time, lose money or become a victim of identity theft.Do investigate before signing up. It is the wisest option.

Your site looks fantastic. CSS may be helpful to bandwidth and size but I don't think it is necessary if you are thinking about design. CSS can help reduce bandwidth load on your site if you use the SAME formatting on MOST pages on your site. You can just refer to the CSS file whenever you want the formatting to apply to that page. CSS can reduce size because it is a one line code for it to work in the document: <link rel="stylesheet" href="css.css" type="text/css" /> You can also add style information on your document: <head><title>Your Title Here</title><style type="text/css">tag {css info here}</style></head> Either way it will help with bandwidth and disk space. The design is really good, I don't recommend that you change it.

OpenOffice is NOT an HTML editor. It is a group of office applications to replace Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher) + Calc.AceHTML Freeware is the best free XHTML editor there is out there. At least for now...

You don't actually make a portal system. You can use a Content Management System to manage your portal or you can use XHTML and CSS to build your pages one by one into your portal. Then again, it helps to know what your portal is about.

I don't use PHP, therefore I can't transform the MIME type.If there is another way to change to "application/xhtml+xml", please tell me how to.I really want my XHTML 1.1 pages to be truly XHTML 1.1, not "text/html".
-
You could also do: <a href="yourpage.html" style="color:rgb(0,0,0)">Link Display Text</a> That would work, but the above ways are better.
-
Um...I don't think people have actually heard of this. It looks dull and suspicious. I don't think you can make a good profit on this website.
-
Thank you for your opinion. However I don't think many people would use this over broadband connections because images don't take very long to download over that connection.Still, I think the features are not bad.Firefox and Opera are leading the alternative web browers right now, therefore it is best to stick with those ones for now, don't you think?

It looks professional enough. I'm not signing up for that because I don't think I'll be interested in completing anything listed on the front page of the website.Nice try for referral links, they are ABSOLUTELY not allowed on the Xisto forum, if they were, everyone would post their referral link on this subforum and no one would know which to click :D. -
The toolbar is awesome. The menu is not that great. However, be warned: The toolbar will reset your Opera Toolbars settings to the default, which means if you have special customization of ANY toolbars, they will be lost.I think with Web Developer Toolbar for Opera and Web Developer Extension for Firefox, my web site will be improved and more valid.

I have never heard of anything like this.

Try editing your page in Notepad or AceHTML Freeware. It will allow more freedom to edit the HTML code directly therefore allowing more customization of the table. Your cells should have no margin, border or padding. Use the cellpadding and cellspacing attributes in table to set that value. Also use CSS to set the <td> tag to: td {border:0px;padding:0px;margin:0px} I think that would help.
