  1. My piano doesn't have a center pedal, I don't recall using it or any pieces that use it.The damper pedal creates a sustaining echo for as long as you hold it. The soft pedal makes the sound softer (obviously).I'm going to try to "blow wind" into my piano Will that damage the effect of the piano at all?
  2. Check out this email I received a few hours ago: It is only available to US residents, I'm not a US resident. Maybe that's because the URL has an error message when I accept the Terms and Conditions? If you are in the US, check it out. I think this is just another imitation of Yahoo! Answers, see my post on Yahoo! Answers here.
  3. I don't get confused about Java and JavaScript at all actually. Similarities: They both use The Web and The Internet. Both of them are used to perform a specific function. Diffferences: Java is a programming language (like C++ or Perl, I think) JavaScript is a scripting language (like VBScript) Java is much harder to integrate into web pages using valid XHTML. JavaScript is a little hard to learn at first, but easy once you get the hang of it. Java is very hard to learn, and is best left of programmers. JavaScript usually performs functions inside webpages. Java can do a lot of other stuff as well. You can find lessons on how to compose JavaScript at http://www.w3schools.com/. People use JavaScript for cool effects in webpages. :-} Both are used for different purposes. If you want to learn easy, cool stuff, learn JavaScript!
  4. I've decided to use the content layout similar to Yahoo! + MSN's.The navigation bar should be like the Yahoo! Sidebar. The top panel should be like eBay's, only with different functional content. There! I didn't copy and code directly (which is copyright infringement) and I combined stuff from all 3 sites.
  5. You don't use Yahoo! Messenger that much? Wow. I prefer Yahoo! over Windows Live Messenger (WLM).Trillian is good (part of the Google pack), but it lacks many features which can be found in the actual messenger itself (Yahoo! Music, Kids Help Phone tab in MSN, etc, etc.).Anyways, everyone has an opinion.
  6. So problem solved now, eh?If it wasn't solved, start panicking.
  7. Finally!!! Yahoo! Messenger 8 is now available for public release download (not BETA). Yahoo! Messenger 8 now features: Plug-ins: Instead of displaying everything, download the ones you need. (Yahoo! Gallery BETA) Free PC-to-PC calling: That was already released with Yahoo! Messenger 7. You can call your friends on the computer, similar to Windows Live Messenger Voice Conversation. Contact Search Bar: Search any of your contacts and get the easy-access menu. Skins: Change the visual design of Yahoo! Messenger. I personally don't use these. Windows Live Messenger compatibility: Add your friends from Windows Live Messenger to avoid downloading a new messenger to communicate with them. This feature is still being tested, I think. It works fine for me. For more features: Yahoo! Messenger Features To download Yahoo! Messenger 8, go to Yahoo! Messenger Download. I like the plug-ins, especially the eBay one (even if I don't have an eBay account because I'm under 18 )
  8. Windows Live Messenger works fine with people who have MSN Messenger 7.5 or below. If you don't have MSN Messenger 7.5, you can't nudge people or some other features are disabled.Messenger Plus! is unable to install on your computer. Please try re-downloading the installation package.
  9. You cannot do this directly in Hotmail. Get a POP3 client (Mozilla Thunderbird NOT recommended, use Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express) and set it up to retrieve your mail from the Hotmail server. Export your mail data to a file and then import it into the other account (which should be set up in the POP3 client too, right? ). EDIT: You need to buy Hotmail Plus for this to work. Otherwise, the only other method is to forward each individual email to the new account OR copy and paste all email contents into a OpenOffice/Microsoft Word document.
  10. IE 7 BETA 3 doesn't work!!! It automatically crashes (with Error Reporting) within few minutes of starting it.Instead, when IE is used, I use Internet Explorer 7 BETA 2. It works fine. However, I definately use Opera, Firefox, Avant Browser, Maxthon, Netscape and also sometimes SeaMonkey. Default is Opera and/or Firefox. Games is Avant Browser and Netscape. Alt. is Maxthon and SeaMonkey. The world's best browser....[not developed yet].
  11. Any Windows Vista themes compatible with Widnows 98 SE or Windows 98? I want to install it on my older computer, just to be safe.I tried installing another version on the Windows 98 computer, it needed another program which depends on Windows XP.
  12. Can anyone actually get the code from the home pages of MSN, Yahoo!, Yahoo! Canada and eBay?I tried view Source and then copied it into an HTML editor, it took a while to decipher the code. How can I make my websites look like Yahoo! or MSN's if I cannot understand why they used the CSS in the first place? Do they use special software to design the page?By the way, if you can give me some tips on how to make my front page like theirs, it would be greatly appreciated.
  13. I started doing HTML when I was 8. Didn't publish it, just made pages of old weather information. Of course the pages weren't valid or browser compatible (only knew about Internet Explorer back then). Basically, start with this code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd;<html><head><title>Stuff in Title Bar</title></head><body><h1>Heading of Page</h1><p>Paragraph</p></body></html> That is your basic template for (X)HTML. Later on, you can add stuff to it like images, tables, etc. A good site to check out is W3Schools or Web Development Lessons. They give you easy instructions to design websites. I strongly recommend text-based editors, not WYSIWYG editors. Often, WYSIWYG editors produce code that is invalid or non-browser-compatible. A good editor is AceHTML Freeware. It gives some features that are valid XHTML and also you can find some scripts that are useful there. You can preview your page in there also (it looks like the IE version of the page). Get AceHTML Freeware on Download.com. Be sure to validate your HTML pages, you don't want them to be full of errors.
  14. I have 2 GMail accounts. Donated all my invites to the GMail Invite Donation. Never gotten spam from GMail or Hotmail, some spam (not a lot) from Yahoo! Mail. Thanks for the New Accounts link, I'lll share it with everyone I know. I am unsure if that is for Google Accounts and/or GMail Accounts. I'll just let them know.
  15. Nice site, but I don't really trust it.I don't like online backups becuase people can accidentally or intentionally steal your information if the site is not careful with security. They are also slow to upload and download.2 GB isn't much space either. I'd rather use a DVD+RW to back up my data or USB Flash Drives. They are faster and more efficient.
  16. I don't have AIM. I have MSN and Yahoo!. Never open any downloads/files from friends that you are unsure of. Ask friends what "this" is first. I haven't got anything "destructive/reproductive" from instant messaging, but I don't plan on getting any in the future. :PBy the way, it is Firefox 1.5.0.4, not 1.4
  17. Anyone heard of Bloobs? You shoot pieces called Bloobs to form 3 bloobs. Then it clears the pieces. You do this until all bloobs clear off the screen. It is fun and mildly addictive. I am writing a guide for this game, so people can become more aware of it and play better. Try it and see. NOTICE: The page may not display properly in Opera. It will display in Avant Browser, Netscape, IE, Maxthon and Mozilla/SeaMonkey.
  18. First of all, the first 2 sites DON'T work in Opera. And this does sound suspicious, I mean Auto-Surfing? Wouldn't that like put your computer totally at risk for malware?I don't believe in this kind of thing at all. I'd rather continue with GalacticGold and other manual surf programs.
  19. I used to have that all the time. Since that message appears in Windows 95/98 (not sure about NT/2000). In Windows XP it is: <Program Name> has encountered an error and needs to be shut down. Please send error report to Microsoft... I suggest you do the following: 1. Reboot your computer. 2. Spyware scan. 3. Virus scan. 4. Go to Start > Run. Type in COMMAND. In the prompt line, type "scandisk C:". Fix any errors. If it is okay, do a ScanDisk SectorCheck as well. 5. Remember to update the software and to update Windows. 6. Go to Start > Run. Type in COMMAND. In the prompt line, type "defrag". Choose Drive C (if the program is on Drive C) and defragment it. 7. Click Start > Run. Type in "cleanmgr". Clean up anything that you DON'T need. For more powerful cleaning use CCleaner. 8. Do a Windows Live Safety Scan for Tune Up and Clean Up. That will help clean your registry more. 9. If all fails, either contact the program vendor (as it says) or get a replacement program, preferably at Download.com. Hope these tips help. The most important things are listed in BOLD. It is essential to complete those.
  20. I got my Photo Editor in Microsoft Office. I try to use The GIMP instead. I don't use that kind of software much though.
  21. Please see my post under "Support and Feedback" about something similar to this topic.Apparently you cannot have 2 accounts under the same IP address.I have an account here and on Xisto. They are the same services.Try Xisto and Xisto.NET.
  22. I doubt this program will actually make it 500 times faster.I mean TCPOptimizer tweaks some network settings to improve it maybe 10 kbps? Please do not advertise products on here (try not to). It is okay to discuss about software, etc. but don't advertise it.This program will make my connection 25000 kbps. I highly disbelieve that.
  23. What is Drupal? I know it is a content management system or whatever. Why should we use Drupal? How is Drupal useful? Is it better than writing our own PHP/XHTML/CSS?Should I use Drupal if I want to take over the Internet?
  24. I occasionally play RuneScape. I would give it a 5/10. It has a little excitement to it (free version). All you are doing is walking around in a Java Applet chatting to other people doign the same thing. I don't think that there is a way to win this game. You should try it, if you don't like it then don't play it. You might get bored of it though.
  25. Here are my tips for securing your computer: 1. If you use Mac, you are already VERY secure (not saying 100%). If you use Windows, you need to take the following steps. 2. Always use a firewall. Good ones are ZoneAlarm (free) and also Shaw Secure. You can find a lot of them on Download.com. 3. Use a good anti-virus program. If you can afford it, buy Norton AntiVirus. Otherwise, use AVG. Shaw Secure is also a good one (if you use Shaw as your ISP). 4. Multiple spyware defenders. Spybot Search & Destroy, SpywareBlaster, Spyware Doctor (for detection only), Bazooka scanner, Yahoo! Toolbar with Anti-Spy, Netscape Spyware Center, SpyCatcher. You don't need all of them, just some. You can read reviews and recommendations at Download.com. 5. Privacy protection. Search Google and Download.com for some good free programs. 6. Use an alternative browser. Firefox andOpera are good. So is Netscape and Maxthon. Don't forget Avant Browser, SeaMonkey and Mozilla. Depending on your features and preference, choose a browser that is NOT Internet Explorer. 7. Use Microsoft Update. Sadly, you need Internet Explorer to access this. If you use Avant Browser as your alternative, you can use it to access Microsoft Update. Download ALL updates for Windows and Office (if you use it). This will ensure security throughout your computer. Crucial updates are high-priority ones. 8. You are not totally protected. Stay on top of security news from trusted sources and CNET. Use McAfee SiteAdvisor for Firefox. Get security plugins for Firefox. There is much you can learn about. 9. Don't open email attachments from untrusted sources. Be suspicious of phishing emails. Virus scan files you download that are from unknown sources. There is much more to do, much more to know. As long as you follow these tips, you will have enhanced security.
