  1. works for me. and yes, there are quotes around the url. (I thought that was obviuos).
  2. trust me. linux is not gonna be dominating anything anytime soon. Linux has not made even a DENT in the consumer market which drives probably about 75% of operating system sales. I bet you can't even name ONE computer manufacturer which supplies OEM Linux for the consumer market. The server market is dominated by Linux, yes... I am not arguing this. But, this has NEVER been a windows area. Linux is basically a dumb down package of Unix which is what most servers run on in the past. So, it isn't really a stretch for people to use Linux on servers. They already know what it is.First of all, I know about "whine" software and other emulators to run windows programs. MY point is WHY? What is the point of emulating when you can just run it for real? Why should I waste my time TRYING to get stuff to work when I know it will work in Windows? You think that it will be more stable in linux? If MS Word isn't stable, running it in linux isn't going to stop it from crashing.Next, I don't care if XP is $100 because it comes with the computer. I can't deduct the value of XP if I don't want it. (I am not talking cheap *bottom* clones... I have a laptop.) And, there is always the pirate option (not that I endorse piracy). So, am I really paying $100 for XP?? NO. Only retail versions are $100. OEM versions are built into the price of the comptuer and is less than $100. In fact, most of the time.. XP is basically thrown in for free. Also, linux is not as stable as people like to say it is. Linux CRASHES TOO. IF you say no, you are a liar. It's just like MAC's who claim to never crash and is very stable (OSX is based on linux). But, I know many people with macs who's systems crash many times more than my XP. Finally, I KNOW why linux "fanatics" like linux so much. It is simply because they have a hatred/jealousy of MS and they like to feel superior. The linux fanatic likes to use linux as a STATUS SYMBOL in their circle of acquaintances. If you are in IT you MUST use linux or you will be shunned. If you know anything about computers you MUST use linux. I am better and smarter than the average consumer because I know about linux and I use linux. It is simply a way to look down on the average user. Deep down you know this to be true but you may not admit it. I don't care. What linux "people" don't understand is that windows is LESS HASSLE, LESS WORK, and is COMPATIBLE with the most software. People DONT CARE that linux is better when what they have works for their NEEDS. Why would I want to waste time trying to "make" my programs run on linux?? That is why Linux is not going to "dominate" the market soon. Get real. 90% of people don't even know what it is, let alone use it. Here's a lesson for you. In business the best product rarely wins. There are so many examples of this. The market dictates what is successful. If the market doesn't accept your product, I don't care if it can give you eternal life... it won't be successful. Linux will NEVER be mainstream unless they start looking at the product from the business perspective.
  3. I don't see a point for anyone to use Linux on their home computers (ie non servers). Seriously, all the programs I run are made for windows. Ya, there are alternative programs that look and feel (almost) like the same windows programs but they are simply NOT COMPATIBLE. If I try to send a document to my client that ISN'T MS Word, they would have a fit. What about games? You are royally screwed when it comes to games because most of the new games that come out only run on Windows. Most people who run Linux have to run MS as well. So, I don't see the point in having both operating systems.I just use the one that does everything I need. I don't NEED Linux. Also, in terms of stability, I have left my computer running for literally weeks and it has never crashed or even slowed down. Yes, there are memory leaks and stuff but the memory can be reclaimed. I have NEVER had a blue screen with XP. I have never had a virus, never been hacked, and never had spyware.I am totally satisfied with XP.
  4. adsense is the BEST PPC program out there right now. Yahoo and MSN is rumored to launch their programs soon but isn't available yet. Google generates the most revenue because their EPC is higher and they have better targetted ads (most of the time). Obviously there are some problems with adsense and it isn't perfect. But in terms of payout, they are the best. For those that say they don't pay... it is most likely you broke the rules and didn't follow the terms and conditions. There are many people on adsense that make $1,000's a month (some make $100,000's a month). Google PAYS. I have been with Adsense for 6 months and I can say for certain that I have gotten paid (more than once). As for tax information, there is nothing unusual about requesting this. This is required by US tax law. The IRS has to hold back a portion of the earnings for tax purposes. Also, this only applys to people in the US. Anyone outside the US doesn't have to provide this information. If you are underage, you can simply sign up with your parents name and tax information. I think you have to be 18 to sign up.
  5. you can use<DIV STYLE="FLOAT:RIGHT">AD CODE</DIV>Your content goes after the above code.
  6. Researching companies to buy stocks may make you believe that you are not gambling but it is still a gamble. How many people had ENRON stock? What about WorldCOM? You think huge companies would be a safe investment but because of accounting anomolies and fraud, you get screwed. The so called research analysts for companies are ALWAYS wrong. Those morons can't analyze *BLEEP*. I should know, I work with them everyday. They just follow their simple templates and rules and don't think or see anything outside of their box. They simply take the numbers given to them from the companies and run the numbers in their little spread sheets. Some don't even really keep up to date with the news on the industry they are covering. IT's really sad.
  7. I like how you people MAKE UP stats! Firefox isn't 5 times or 3 times faster than a piece of *BLEEP*. You haven't even tried netscape 8 and are already bashing it. The article clearly states that netscape 8 is going to run off both IE and firefox engines. How are you gonna say that netscape is slower? Did you even bother to read the article before posting? And FYI, Firefox is *BLEEP* because it can't display as many webpages as IE. How can it be the best browser if it can't even display webpages properly?? The article clearly states that the guy can't access his company email site with FireFox but works with the new netscape and IE. Next, he clearly states (As another poster here states), they have to run IE from time to time because Firefox can't display a webpage properly. And don't give me the garbage that Firefox is more secure. It is software and software has bugs and security holes. The difference is that not enough people use Firefox to make it a viable target for hackers. Besides, the article is taking about a firefox engine in netscape anyway... so how would firefox be more secure than netscape??? Firefox is a good browser, yes.... the best? NO. The BEST browser depends on what the user needs. I am perfectly happy with IE6 except that it doesn't have tabbed browsing. I don't get browser hijacks or viruses on my computer at all. And no, I don't have any that I don't know about. You guys should just stop going to warez and PORN sites. I guess if you must goto those sites... Firefox is a good PORN browser.
  8. <a href="javascript:window.open(url,'name','height=500,width=400,left=100, top=100,resizable=no,scrollbars=no,toolbar=no,status=no');">click</a>This is probably what you are looking for. It is javascript. But, personally, I hate it when people do popups on a site. There should be other options to do this so there isn't a popup. Like using javascript to position the mp3player in the corner of the window.
  9. shaolin soccer was ok. I didn't think it was that funny. I prefer stephen chows older movies. Also, I am still not sure what the vulga thrust is... is it a kung fu move? or just an action performed like jim carrey in pet detective?i thought kung fu hustle was crap. the story was stupid and it really wasn't funny at all. The jokes were too simple and many were old tricks. And what was the point of the girl with the lollipop in the movie? if they wanted to add some sort of romance, it failed miserably. I didn't feel like that part belong in the movie. It was like they put it in there as an after thought.I'll admit there were SOME funny parts but they weren't that many of them. I thought the funniest parts were in the beginning of the movie when he was going to fight the those people and he picked out people he thought he could beat (but couldn't).
  10. are you talking about the stephen chow movie? What is Vulga Thrust?
  11. I don't get cyber sex. Sex (not love) is about sensory stimulation and I don't really see how it works on line. Personally, I haven't done it and don't intend to (and no I'm not 12, I am 20+). I just think it's too weird. I'm the type of person who is the same online and offline.I don't normally walk up to a stranger and ask for sex. So why would I do it online? I just don't know why people do it. It's as if online people are not equal to real people in the real world.
  12. Why is it hard to reduce it to 800x600? I see on your page that you have nothing but space on the right side anyway. For me, I run at 1024x768 (laptop) but I run my browser windowed at 800x600.
  13. I looked at some of those programs and they all seem to use e-gold as forms of payment. Why couldn't they simply take credit cards or other online payment methods? I think there is a reason.I then went to the e-gold site and it seems there are transaction fees for EVERY trasaction (paying AND receiving)! The fee is like 5% of the transaction for smaller values. So the daily deposits that some of these programs give you will be MINUS all the transaction fees from e-gold. Also, e-gold has a 1% "account maintenance" fee every month. Because ALL the hyper interest investment programs use e-gold, it seems to me that they may get some referral or bonuses from e-gold for using their service. So, you really have to take into account all the fees to determine your ACTUAL payout. Now using that payout, you can actually determine if the program is worth the risk.
  14. maybe certain features should not be available to noobs. Maybe only the latest package should have all the features available. This way, people don't just post their 10 posts and then go on to spam the server. Atleast with people who have posted, say 100 posts, they will probably value the community more and would not tend to spam the server with mailing lists and stuff.
  15. i don't see the big deal about rep points. so what if people are increasing thier rep using another log in? who cares? rep points don't give them better or longer hosting. rep points just don't mean anything. I could care less if someone had 100 rep from himself. doesn't bother me one bit.
  16. if you think a picture of 2 hot chicks kissing each other while naked is disgusting... I really doubt you are straight. I have never heard the word "disgusting" used to describe 2 hot chicks going at it.If the sight of, or even thought of, 2 hot chicks makes you nauseous... you have issues. You are basically either lying about not liking it or you are lying about being straight.
  17. good riddance to JetsGo... I read in the news that they are one of the worst airlines EVER for passenger safety. They have pages and pages of safety violations and it was just LUCK that nobody died while flying jetsgo. In one case, the pilot damaged the plane on landing and they did not take the plane off the runway. Instead, jetsgo loaded up the plane with more passengers and continued flying. The damage was to the wings and could have basically caused the plane to fall out of the sky.
  18. This was the comment. I would say that this comment was supposed to address Dawid's concerns. The concern is that topics of a serious nature do not generate intelligent or meaningful responses. I don't see how creating topics would address this issue.

    Bad Drivers

First, I don't think the slow lane is always the right lane (left had drive countries). The slow lane should be the lane that is actually SLOW! I don't care what lane you are in. Just MOVE OVER when someone is coming up behind you quickly or driving very close to you. Don't be a ****head and hit the brakes when someone is behind you. If you don't like it move over!Another thing is similar to the situation in the first post. People ALL want to be at the "front". They will speed past you, then change lanes to go in front of you and slow down. What the hell is that? Next, everyone wants their own lane. I cannot tell you how many times I have been stuck behind cars on a FOUR LANE road where they are all travelling at the same speed. In front of those 4 cars is absolutely empty space...Finally, many people equate aggressive driving or speed to bad driving. Sorry but aggressive drivers are not always bad drivers... STUPID drivers are bad drivers. Like morons who like to drive in peoples blindspot... or some idiots who are too damn scared to merge into traffic... if you want to merge into traffic, you actually have to speed up to or be faster than the traffic you are trying to join!! You can't merge onto a freeway doing 40 while everyone else is doing 60. You are just causing traffic and causing people to slam on the brakes for you.end rant.
  20. I don't think you understand Dawid's post. OR maybe you didn't read it clearly. He is not complaining about not being able to talk about things that interest him. He is complaining about the quality of the members and the type of responses. I also find that it is very difficult to hold any sort of high level conversations at Xisto because either people don't bother reading the post and simply reply to the topic rather than the post, OR they are incapable of replying to the post in an intelligent manner. From your own post, you clearly did not provide an adequate response to his concerns (which are stated above). Asking him what he is afraid of? That kind of response leaves a foul taste in the mouth and could be seen as a diminutive comment. The worst part is the response simply proved his point. Why would you suggest he create topics of his own when the root of the problem isn't topics but the quality of responses. One cannot conduct a conversation, no matter the topic, if the conversing parties are producing unintelligible responses.
  21. It sounds like you are simply looking for a guestbook script that requires a password to modify. I don't know how familiar you are with PHP but you can take one of the many guestbook scripts (posted here at Xisto I believe) and modifiy it to suit your needs. The data you are looking to track or save is the same type of data that a guestbook would save. The only thing you have to do is add one more field for a password. Associate the password with that particular entry. Then when the person wants to change the contact info, they have to put that same password in. You can just compare the password in the database to the one entered in the form.
  22. the problem with JSP is that it isn't offered by as many webhosts compared to PHP. Because PHP is free, virtually ALL webhosts will support it. I admit that I am more familiar with PHP but, I'm sure that whatever JSP can do, PHP can probably do it as well. There are so many server side languages for creating dynamic pages, you really gotta learn the one you think will benefit you the most. I chose to learn PHP because of the availability.I also know CGI and PERL but those are getting a bit old now and (I think) will be replaced by PHP.
  23. ya. good luck dodger. I just looked at my post and to some it may look like I am blaming you or something... but I'm not. Just trying to point out that you may be making it worse. You should backup all your stuff on your own computer though. That's what I do. If I never get access to my webspace, it doesn't really matter because I can just upload another copy somewhere else.
  24. LOL. I doubt you will EVER get out of the negative area with the posts you are making. I don't know if you know this, but copying articles from the net and posting them to get hosting credits is considered spam here. Examples of your recent posts which will severly hurt your hosting credits if they are deleted: 1. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ 2. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ 3. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ 4. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ 5. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ There are MORE but those are probably enough. I am assuming you posted enough to get your self out of the hole. That means atleast 28 hosting credits. Keep in mind that according to Dooga, there is a penalty of 2 times for spam. If ALL your posts are like the ones above and they get deleted, you will end up losing 56 hosting credits. You are digging a bigger and bigger hole...
  25. does it then ACTUALLY take 19427 seconds to shut down?
