  1. Love it! Thank you for helping me prove that teens aren't web-illiterate!
  2. Well, you have to be confident to go through with the whole thing, so work on it. But if you like her, don't let her go. That will make things even harder on both of you, and you shouldn't risk two years for that. Good luck!
  3. The text doesn't fit, the colors are really bland, and it looks like you had fun with filters. But the image IS pretty - at least the doodling is. Not sure I agree with the rest. 4-5ish/10 (I grade hard, because I've seen awesome things)
  4. If an ything, I'd phrase it as "she dumped you" because it's better for her that she isn't in this sort of relationship. I'm pretty sure you could have helped it, because I know if I were in that situation, I wouldn't really be very sympathetic or understanding. When you start dating someone, that's a commitment. And after the first time, if things really started happening so badly, just tell her the truth and let her go. I don't mean to sound cruel, because being in high school, I don't approve of half the world's high school relationships, but if she let you go that easily or vice versa, there probably wasn't much there, or she probably already knew. Bleghhehh.
  5. Keep the doctype intact at the top of your page, before ANY OTHER BIT OF CODE. Okay, lemme address this real fast: 1) You DON'T NEED meta tags for everything. 2) Don't use frames please. Grab yourself a layout from http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and do things the CSS way. Frames are not only annoying but you can do it with divs BETTER as well as neater. Plus it's all standards-y. You can pull frames off, but don't. 3) Well...a page needs color and content. You, at this time, have neither. I honestly think the quality of the content matters more than the quality of the design, as long as there's a decent design - that means, making it pretty should be secondary to making the content good. Some people take too long to do that. 4) Eghhhh depreciated tags. Since you're using HTML 4.01 (your doctype - document type - at the top of the page states this), it's fine to use CENTER, etc. But if you're going to be using a Glish.com layout, don't bother with that. You can state it in the CSS like this for text: text-align:center;Best of luck with this. I'll stop by more and more once this random hacker thing with my site gets resolved. HATE HATE HATE. <3
  6. It's never anything I can't repair with a simple rebuild of my homepage, but it's annoying. First, it was a guy named Cecen and I PMed you about him. Now, it's http://www.spyhackerz.com/ - they're apparently having hacking tournaments? For the rest of you guys, is there anything I can personally do to stop these attacks from happening? It's annoying to know that while I'm away, people are utilizing free reign over my site for FUN. I put work into this; it isn't fair that they should try to destroy that. These guys are apparently Turkish hackers, and this is probably the third time total I've been hacked in the past month period. Last time, I made a long article about it: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ You know, legal action would be nice. I think I can have their domain shut down or something, but that might provoke a full scale assault, I don't know. I'm vehemently against these guys. Any tips would be appreciated! I'm on the verge of absolutely pounding these guys. Mentally.
  7. A hellish color? My, that's interesting wording. It sort of goes along with trying to describe a goose that possesses an "avian coloration" or a bit of bread that seems to have gone "toasty". I think the best bet for this would be to pick up some cover art for any of the Diablo games - there's a wealth of hellishness in those, and besides that, they're just pretty. The only other artwork you're going to find that corrolates would be cartoonish or those very old "THINE SOUL IS IN HIS GRAFP" woodcuts. Best of luck though
  8. Works like a charm for me unless the router is dead set on being a tard. I usually only have to wait until the "A network cable has been unplugged" since I'm directly connected to the router - my mother and brother use wireless and my dad simply connects to mine - and then I can plug it back in, wait a minute, and things usually work again. Since we have cable internet, it tends to be a little laggy from time to time, but if it works for World of Warcraft, it definitely works for me.
  9. Technorati seems to hate my site, but that's a given because my site's relatively unknown at the moment, and thats' probably better for my bandwidth. It also helps me in that I won't feel noobish about my design any more than I have to. But yeah, its' great to just sit down and read what other people have been posting at the same time that you've been living a little part of your life.
  10. Looks to me like this issue has been going on for a very long time, so this is not the only instance. I honestly look down on people who even borrow other people's layouts because it diminishes your creativity and increases, as proven, the occurances of incidents like this and your dependency on that person for layouts. It's SO easy to make a layout because a layout can be anything. I strongly urge that you talk to the person who sent this abuse letter and get this resolved - send copies to OpaQue if things work out so you can get your account back, but LISTEN TO THEM IN THE FUTURE. It's their content. They have the right to tell you how it's going to be used.
  11. I know for one, you have to put it in the plugins or something folder. The readme should tell you everything from there, if these kind people before me have not. From there, just activate it in your phpBB admin panel. PLEASE BACKUP YOUR FORUM IF YOU HAVE CONTENT ON THERE. It's a total pain to try to restore a forum if something happens. (My previous post was retarded; if you read it, don't yell at me )
  12. I hate most site builders aside from Dreamweaver. I use the editor in cPanel for almost everything. It makes me feel better about my webpage - cheesy, I know - and then I directly get a chance to fix a problem if anything comes up. I use notepad for general editing of PHP and HTML because it has the nice "GOTO LINE #" search thing that I especially like.
  13. http://www.w3schools.org//?gtnjs=1 is awesome. So is http://www.lissaexplains.com/. Those help for the short term, but I learned the most about webdesign from reading source code and understanding why this tag makes this happen, etc. Everything I do on the computer nowadays is part of a learning experience for me. From about 4th or 5th grade to 11th now...that's 6 years? I read a book and used it for maybe 2 max. I guess it also helps that my parents have been using computers since their inception (my dad fondly remembers mainframes). So yeah, whenever you go to a website you like, no one can stop you from looking at their source code - however, don't TAKE IT unless you have explicit permission, and you probably shouldn't do that either - you can learn a lot more from experience, which anyone can say. If you're going to buy a book, which I would say no to, make sure it it's PUBLISHED RECENTLY so you can make use of XHTML, CSS and other recently revised dealies. I made the mistake of trying to use a 2000 book a few years ago, and everything I made felt outdated.
  14. http://archive.oreilly.com/pub/a/oreilly/ti-is-web-20.html - probably clarifies the defintion. I think you're on the right track; I think essentially, it gives more freedom and capabilities to users of the website, encourages viewers, and leads to a more relaxed and analytical web. I think the word would be "usercentric" although the spellchecker might not like me for that. An example they provided was the transition from Web 1.0 Netscape to Web 2.0 Google. You can probably see that tranformation pretty easily. Everyone used to use Netscape; now Google is taking that position, and no one can say that Google doesn't provide. Innovation, I think, would describe Web 2.0 in a nutshell. An innovative and inclusive approach to the web
  15. Oh come on, True! You can do better than that. Combine the skill you use in your sigs into this logo! Things I dislike: The gradient colors The lighting effects THE FONTS The colors overall The shape Since most websites won't want to change their entire color scheme to fit one logo anywhere, work with what they have. Most websites also use a shape for their logo, sometimes having text, sometimes not. An easy to make logos is make a block or circle of a solid color and take an eraser and erase parts of it at random. You can end up with some pretty unique things. Or, if you're skilled in manipulating shapes, you can try to make something. Most logos are very simple to create, because the harder and more complicated a logo is, the harder it is to place it on things. Therefore, the simple shapes idea often works best because it creates a modern appeal and people are more likely to remember a shape relating to a site than they are a huge complicated logo. It's more pleasant. In addition, make use of colors! The more vivid a logo is, the more people will remember it. In addition, if you're going to add text, add it NEAR the logo...not necessarily on it. It takes the appeal from both the text and the background, as you've displayed. Don't use default Photoshop filters unless you feel you can benefit from them, but play around with all forms of brushing and effects. If you continue to constrain yourself as to what a logo SHOULD be, you won't end up with that image. If you give yourself free reign and check it every once in a while, you should be able to come up with something fantabulous. Examples to illustrate my point: Note how you can make use of text and glamour at the same time! Best of luck
  16. I started making a website in 5th or 6th grade, because my brother had to make one for a project - and my mother was helping out with it because she did a lot of computer science. It wasn't until 7th that I practically digested an old HTML book and was making forms while other people were still earning about fonts. Of course, then I introduced myself to divs, accessability, and Notepad because tables were annoying and but Dreamweaver practically made webpages an offhand thing. There was practically no work put into it, which made me decidedly upset. I've also been through a lot of hosts. My first sites started on Geocities with no organization, then Crosswinds which made me pay after not too long, then Frostyhost which went out of business, and finally Xisto after an interlude of about 5 different hosts I tried but didn't like (I still think I have those accounts). My site, http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, as you can see, has come a long way and I'm proud of myself for it
  17. See, that's good of you guys! The only way to become open to something is to become used to it. This is human nature, not corruption of any sort. But people refuse to acknowledge that, which leads to intolerance. Keep owning up people with your character. As a people, we have to tolerate ALL, and therefore accept ALL.
  18. Ewwwghhuahh. I'm sorry, but that's the first impression I got from both templates. Not only are they very restrictive, but in using the soft shading, it seems extremely harsh. In addition, it looks like you're planning to use tables for layouts. BAD! A professional design will utilize color, images, LAYOUT, and semantic structure (rather, it should) to achieve its goals...which I feel I can provide examples of. I can probably substitute one of my designs. In addition, think of a color scheme, ideas for logos, and all other crucial elements of design. You can e-mail me at aurorae90@hotmail.com
  19. Even if more people are becoming atheists, are they suddenly becoming worse people? In my opinion, they're becoming more independent and that leaves room for tolerance among all. Now there should be a specific category for me - I'm lazy and I believe in the organized functions of my religion, but I use the mythos only for entertainment and part of no personal belief. And of course, the fact that all religions are manmade, so you're still following the code of man...
  20. At ours, we sell school supplies (big market) and freshly warmed cookies (even bigger market!). A school store should be able to provide things that a student wouldn't have access to at home - things that are necessary for school, which is why a lot of us have recommended school supplies. We sell school spirit outside of the school store, at stations in the cafeteria. Since a lot of school spirit stuff is seasonal - and since profit would be slim versus expenses, that's probably not a good investment. You have to be sure of your market first. So yeah. Pencils, pens, paper, the whole shabang.
  21. I've been spending a lot more time doing homework and general off-my-computer activity since school started, but I've felt a little more revitalized since I stopped playing World of Warcraft (for a little while), so until I get that started up again, I'll have a good 7 hours of sleep every night. Wow!I used to spend a lot of time on my computer between WOW, drawing, writing, making my site or...excessively polishing it, and reading a lot of random techy jargon from other sites. And chatting. I rarely deviated from that.
  22. I hate ignorance, dirtiness, ignorance, relative stupidity, stubbornness (the "unwilling to give anything a chance kind"), giving up, mooching, and a variety of assorted bad things.MOSQUITOS AND ROACHES. DEAR GOD I HATE MOSQUITOS AND ROACHES.
  23. It's that view I don't agree with though, Pixie. It puts too much emphasis on the fact that humanity can't do anything by themselves, and leads us, as humans, to view ourselves as inferior - as well as making other religions, like my own (Hinduism), appear inferior because "there's only ONE (count 'em!) path to heaven!"It also leaves room for people who are genuinly bad, but follow Christianity like a trail, to earn a reward where other good people, who weren't offered or didn't find comfort in religion, can't get a similar berth. Lots of inequality in that structure.Over all, I like to view religion as a rich cultural and literary tradition, rather than an organization of human creation that undermines a human's potential to create a life adequate to said human's goals. As humanity, we have to stop dividing ourselves over religion, and instead focus on the common things we all share. The more we divide ourselves, the less we can agree on a variety of topics that are threatening us now. Who's concerned with the afterlife when our world is essentially melting into itself? I don't know about you, but I'm sick of people waiting around looking for a miracle to tell them what to do. The answer's here - and we have to take care of our world and do our job before we get our "reward".
  24. That's actually remarkably ignorant of you. Political issues like that basically thrive from ALL religions, not from one single god. In addition, a lot of those aren't even religious. They're stupid restrictive political decisions based on what humanity thinks is right or wrong; unless you think everyone has a snake in their ear, whispering what's right or wrong (YAY MYTHOLOGY).
  25. I really liked RE4, which is probably the only Resident Evil I even bothered to look over and play through. It was just so beautiful on Gamecube, fun, and spooky enough without being overtly gory to keep me entertained. Okay, there was a lot of gore - but there was more storyline, which was important! The random puzzles, objects, the lovable amicable merchant, and the good dialogue and scripting, as well as beautiful graphics, made me love it so much. Although, the girl was freaking annoying sometimes. "LEON, LEON, LEON HELP." God, that gets on your nerves so fast.
