  1. I saw that a many months ago. Honestly (being the Nintendo fan that I am), I think that it is a great idea. No other console company has ever decided on such a simple design (after all, we use remotes every day for the TV). Plus, the motion sensitive feature of it is also pretty cool. There will, however, bee an analog stick attachment for the controller (I forget what they called it, but the name was in Japanese. I'm not even 100% sure if the attachment will be released to other countries, but I'd say that it will). Anyway, I hope that it turns out to be as cool as it looks.
  2. I wish I had a free day tomorrow like you! I have to go to school! You are so lucky! Well, anyway, I'll mostly be on the computer like always. Plus, we may have something else planned (to tell the truth, I have no idea if we do or not). I really like easter, so I at least know that the weekend will be good for me.
  3. For a while, I had this weird problem with my computer. It was nearly the same as one that has been listed. It woud just cut off suddenly. Usually within minutes of booting up. However, one weird thing, is that it was just Windows doing it. I'd boot into Linux, wait for an hour, and it would still be running fine. Now, Windows is no longer cutting off. What's weirder is how I stopped the problem: I cleaned out the dust inside the CPU case. (Maybe Windows has some weird feature that cuts the computer off if the CPU is dusty? Heh, I doubt it.). Some of the problems that I have dealt with (and seen/hear about others dealing with) can be just plain weird sometimes. All I can say is, go with what has already been suggested. That may actually help you get a more stable system (although I have heard many bad things about Windows ME). Anyway, I hope you can get those problems of yours taken care of.
  4. You've got some sort of ISP issue. I just tried it, and it went straight to it (the default page). I then tried it based on the link you gave us (which would make the address gamma.xisto.com/~daralee/hogwarts). It also went straight to it. I think you need to check with your ISP about that. However, there could be other causes to that (but I am not sure about it). Anyway, sorry, but that's all I can help you with.
  5. The first time I tried it, it said that it couldn't find the server. I tried it again, and it connected. However, I am on a different ISP (PeoplePC). Also, if none of your computers can find it, then it's definitely an ISP issue. There is one thing you could try, and that's go to gamma.xisto.com/~your-cpanel-name. That should take you to your site. If you get the same error, then something's wrong with your ISP.
  6. I just read that article. Talk about weird. I didn't know Microsoft tried that many different tactics towards Linux. I also found it strange how they didn't find Linux to be a threat to them until later in its history. However, I still don't think that Microsoft will be successful with this. I didn't think that Microsoft would stoop to those levels though (I guess that gives me more a reason to stick with Linux). Anyway, thanks for that link.
  7. Surprisingly, I'm more active in The Vent (47 posts, which is about 13% of my total). I guess I can find more things to talk about in the vent. I know at one time, it was General Talk (don't know how long ago, though).
  8. I agree with what fffanatics said. I mean, if most (if not all) computers are going to have this chip in them, then Linux will have to support it. I'd hate to see a decline in Linux users because of that stupid chip. I'm glad to see that it will be supporting it.
  9. I read a little about that in an article from Richard Stallman. I don't remember much about it though. However, if those chips prevent us from using Linux, then there would be no way that I would ever use it. We should have control over our own computers, not the companies involved. It's stupid that they're trying to take that much control of our computers. We should have the choice of both the hardware and operating system that we want to use.
  10. I'm always hearing songs that I cannot stand while at school (since most people I know don't like the type of music I do). I'm also hearing a lot of the same songs as well (I can't think of the titles, plus I don't like them). I've never heard any of those songs (but they don't seem to be the kind of music I listen to anyway). Anyway, hearing the smae songs over and over also drives me nuts.
  11. I don't think grades are dumb. Besides, your grades can help you get a better job. Anyway, my grades so far (the last time I checked, anyway): My grades are usually better than that....Algebra really didn't help them any....I don't really know my GPA either.
  12. If it was possible (and not dangerous), I think it would be a good idea. It would more than likely be hard to get it to work, and maybe even harder to prevent it from even being dangerous (which, even if it was possible, the danger would still be there). I've thought about things like that a few times.
  13. I'm not sure how easy this can be faked, but one thing you can do is to use $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'] and use a string comparison function (like strstr()). An example could be: if(!strstr('YOUR_WEBSITE_URL') {echo "Error: Incorrect Server!";}else {//Your form stuff here}You would need to replace YOUR_WEBSITE_URL with your site's URL, obviously. I'm not sure if browser HTTP Refers can be disabled in the browser (I think they can), but that may be one of the best options. That's about the only way I would know how to do it.
  14. Nice tutorial! I knew about most of those commands (I used them just about every time I search). However, I did still learn some new ones. With all those tips, that makes advanced searching quicker (since you don't have to go to the advanced search page). Great job! Hopefully this will help people find more of what they're looking for on Google.
  15. Yes, you need to use $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] instead, and you forgot the ending ?> at the end. Your actual code should be: <PARAM NAME="welcomemessage" VALUE="<?php echo $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; ?> has been logged. Chat powered by GCN">That should give you what you're looking for (I hope, anyway). You also had an extra quote in that right after the semicolon (which I corrected in the code).
  16. I've had my share of bad problems, too. They're not as bad as the ones that have been described, though. I've lost a few important files somehow, I had a heck of a time figuring out what these beeps meant (and why the computer wasn't starting right) when I inserted a new drive. I've also had some that are more serious than those, but I can't remember them. I sorta like having computer trouble sometimes though (it gives me more of a challenge). Anyway, I hope that can help you fix the problems you are having.
  17. On big forums like this, I don't normally make many friends easily (maybe because of my username, or what I like? I don't know). However, I visit and post here mainly for those reasons you listed, as well. Although, I typically come here to look for new computer-related stuff and things like that. I definitely come here to get away from the rest of my life! Anyway, there are probably many other reasons why people come here (although all of mine are already mentioned).
  18. I've seen thing like that happen, but not very often. From what I've noticed at my school, most of the teachers don't take students walking all over them very easily. They give out detentions all the time for people disobeying the rules (even though it does the person no good, they still continue to do it). I don't know why people break the rules all the time...Anyway, seeing that happen as much as you are would get on my nerves quickly.
  19. I can't belive how childish they are acting! I mean, it's their fault for not even turning in the assignment in the first place. I've been in a class where no one (quite literally) turned in their homework. It didn't turn out how your's did, though. Also, I disagree with what the principal said. I mean, it's homework and it is meant to be turned in. I think you should just continue to turn in your homework after class. That's probably going to be the only thing you'd be able to do to prevent things like this from happening all the time (unless your teachers or someone else can find a better solution). I would continue to do your homework, no matter how mad it may make them. I am glad to see that at least some people value school/grades over social status and all that stuff.
  20. I wouldn't worry about it much. We are all clumsy every once in a while. A lot of times, when I wake up in the mornings, I fall down the stairs, and hit hard, too. However, our stairs aren't that hard, so it didn't hurt as much as it would with some other people. Falling down the stairs can be very embarassing.
  21. It may be jus a 'fad', but it is still dangerous. I really don't get those types of sites, really. Plus, the news that we have to watch at my shcool (ChannelOne) dedicated an entire broadcast to the dangers of Myspace. I just don't get why these people continue to use it, even with the news saying what it is about it. I don't care if "everyone's using it", I know I never will (and I will also know that that saying is not true). Oh, and the people from ChannelOne who were able to look at partcular people's pages (or whatever they're called) on Myspace were actually able to find them (and I don't recall them mentioning that the kids added their addresses or any other way to get to them).
  22. That's not too bad, but one drawback: If you get many of the same visitors (especially if they're on DSL or some other some other always-on connection), then your file will be cluttered constantly with their information (which would either be exactly the same, or very similar), and it would be hard to find new ones. If possible, it would be easier if you could use MySQL with that to check for whether that particular IP has been logged. If you want it that way, then ignore this.
  23. Wow, that sure is fast!! Anyway, even if it won't be available to us for a while, at least that kind of speed could help out businesses that may need it. Especially the ones with a lot of money. It would be really cool, though, to have that fast of an Internet connection. That's a lot of sites/downloads! I'm just glad to see such a huge data transmission speed, no matter how long it will take to be affordable!
  24. My computer used to cut off on me a lot, no matter if I was on it, or not. It made me very mad, too. Finally, while I was adding another hard drive to it, I dusted it out, and now it works perfectly. However, I'm not saying that is your problem. I don't know how it feels to loose points in a game, but I do know how it feels to loose progress in a script by the power cutting off (I lost about 1 hour's worth of work...but now I save more often, so I don't have to worry about it).
  25. I've not used very many encryption method, but I do know that MD5 is definitely one of the best options. Especially if you encrypt a password with some other method (such as creating your own) method of encryption, then pass that encrypted string to MD5, which would make it even more difficult to crack (especially if you used your own method...or it will be most of the time). However, what's most important is that you prevent any kind of injection attack from happening (which has been mentioned).
